Change from stock to lineage os without loosing data and settings - Moto Z Questions & Answers

Hi, due to eol I would like to change to lineage os. But I don't want to loose all my data and settings of apps. Is there a way to save this first, e. g. After root? I know that switching to a custom Rom need a clean install...

[Q] Android Upgrades without wiping /data

Hi,
I would be very interested to know if I could upgrade my ROM without completely wiping /data. My only idea would just to be to backup /data before upgrading so I could just throw everything back on when I was done. I'm going to guess this is not possible, but just thought I would give it a shot. Thanks.
Hi
you mean what kind of Upgrades ? I upgade CM7.1 every week without wiping data
So like, lets say i wanted to go from cyanogenmod 7 to cyanogenmod 8...is there a way i could do that without wiping /user?

As long as the base OS is not a huge jump then upgrading custom roms is not always needed. If the OS version changes it is suggested due to possible code changes that effect settings and save data. TIBU gives you the best of both. Doing a full wipe to make sure no left over bugs and restoring your user apps and data. You do have to reset up your system settings but once it become habit you do it without thinking. Lol
I guess the root of the issue is the extremely large amount of applications I install on my device, it's a pain to re-download them, and it definitely does make sense to just be able to write over the existing ROM if there was not an extreme amount of changes.

Cleanest ROM flash with minimum reconfiguration.

Hey, everytime I want to flash a new ROM or even new version of the same ROM,
I like to clear everything beforehand and factory reset my device.
The issue is everytime I do that I have to download all my apps again and configure the device all over again (apps & phone settings) .
I need some guide about backing up the maximum data possible (settings and applications) while still keeping the new flash as clean as possible.
I own Titanium paid version.
Thanks a lot!
Bump ?

Do a backup to the data.img file which is located in the remix os folder and after you do a clean install replace the file with the one u have.
I didnt try that so im sure if it'll work.
It didn't work for me, but goodluck
It's a major update - from one whole version to another, so I wouldn't recommend saving appdata.
You can always use Titanium Backup and backup apps individually.

Bad performance/Slow device

I know this kind of thread has been already asked but I am having serious problems with my RN3Pro (2 Gigs, 16 ROM) since years (since 2017), its laggy, slow, and no matter what ROM I try (I tested SMIUI, Cyanogenmod, Lineage, Resurrection Remix, Liquid Remix, CRDroid, AOSP Extended ...) ... I even installed Radon Kernel to try and improve the system performance, nothing helped, enabled zram too, still the same.
I usually run between 2GB/200MB of internal memory free, due to telegram cache and all these things, still the same, no matter what I do, its slow in all senses.
When I install a rom I do a total wipe with new openGapps and new magisk, I never dirty flash over nothing, the phone can run fine but as soon as I install my apps (or I restore them by titanium backup) I go back to slow performance.
What I should do ? Im actually on Pie (AOSP Extended, no Radon Kernel), but im planning to go back to Oreo (AOSP Extended, Radon Kernel installed) or come back to MIUI
Im afraid of come back to MIUI since I love to touch my DPI settings, I use Adaway, Kernel Auditor and a lot of things I cant do with MIUI.
May someone help me ?
Thanks.

lol  your answers lies in your question itself.
Noone face problem. Why? Think first.
What u doThats not Clean flash.
Make sure u r on latest official twrp 3.2.3
First go to twrp . Format data to decrypt data and erase internal sd.
Go to wipe. Press format data
Type YES to format
It will erase data and internal sd partition.
Then Wipe data reset.
Flash rom
Flash gapps
Reboot
Do not restore any data backup from twrp.
When u first boot into system. During initial setup wizard. select DONT COPY DATA. Start as fresh setup.
After setup finished.
Do not restore backup or anything from titaniuim backup. Its main cause of ur problems. Restoring old backup on new android os bring crshes, bugs, drains, laggs.
Download and install everything from playstore.
Its done .Now check ur performance.:good:

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind then, since I faced all these problems for a lot of time didnt knew maybe titanium backup was a possible reason, I do backups of my apps since 2014 and never had problems on any other device ...
Thanks again

Days ago, after read you, I decided to give up and go back to MIUI and then start again, with a total erase and full memory reset, I updated TWRP and also installed all with only a few titanium backups restore (I needed them, so I had no choice), the phone now runs quite aceptable and great, I took a look at kernel auditor before and after the complete restore, before I wasn't having any deep sleep, now, my phone have deep sleep most of the time and less high freq's
Didnt knew that titanium backup and not formatting my personal data was too bad, thanks again Black_Stark!

Custom ROM from current ROM

Hi
I am new to the Android operating system and therefore my question may be a stupid one.
I wanted to know if it's possible to create a custom ROM from an existing ROM, for example I rooted my phone and uninstalled a few system apps, now I wanna make it into a ROM so then i can flash it to the phone and even when someone will factory reset the phone it will still be without the system apps I uninstalled cause the ROM does not have these apps.
Thanks
