Hi All,
I flashed the Ultimate Oreo S9 Rom off here a couple of weeks back but found it too buggy for my liking, I then reflashed my s6 edge to stock Nougat and everything works fine (besides the custom system warning but thats not anything major) but when I installed netflix again I got error 5.7 which is usually caused by rooted devices so I loaded up SuperSU and Root checker, SuperSU says I have no root but Root checker says my root has been installed incorrectly? Its evident that the root is lying around my system so what should I do to fix it? (I can't even access the root file manager as root isn't installed!)
Thanks

Just a quick question... After flashing stock did you do a full wipe?

Hi guys I recently rooted my phone and thought that if I could refresh my tablet a bit with a new rom Id use it more so I decided to root that too.
I have followed a lot of the guides on here but am really having issues. The Superuser app just will not work, I have copying and pasting in the new version and rooting again, I have tried unrooting and doing it again with no superuser.apk file at all or a bin superuser file and still no.
I cant even check if the device is rooted correctly as root checker just will not come up with a result it just loads forever.
I tried installing SuperSU instead but it gets stuck on installing then it says there is another programme that may be conflicting and then it just gives up too.
What to I need to do to root this thing and have a working supersu/user app?!?
Thanks

I had the exact same issue just the other day. Is the rom a 4.3 version. They are apparently a little finicky. First, open developer options, and under the root part allow apps and adb. Then I flashed the supersu from this site here , and finally I simply re flashed the rom I wanted, and it worked.
Phone has been fine, rooted with cwm5.5. This is wifey phone so I keep messing with it at a minimum. At some point I noticed it no longer has root. It runs stock 4.1.2. With a couple of root apps - such as AdAway-which is no longer working and has error message "Either subinary could not be found or you did not allow root permissions for AdAway"
Superuser app has this error "There are currently no superuser app policies." then "Superuser binary must be updated" attempting to update results to error "There was an error installing superuser. "
I rooted the phone again with the same CWM ver. file. attempted to flash superuser but it errored and aborted installation. I rebooted and installed rom manager so that I could update CWM. That errored out as well. Root verifier confirms there's no root on the phone. I have installed busy box but it has the same error message no root access.
I thought to root with CWM ver 6.0.4.6 but installation aborted. I tried TWRP but it aborted as well. Only CWM 5.5 works which my normal routed is then to flash superuser, install rom manager and then have it update to CWM to ver 6.xx. But his time none of these is working. How do I regain root?

Initially I had actually, but camcorder issues, modems with sporty service ... we a deal breaker. Si I just restored it to stock with kies to avoid more lip. Only thing I did was root the stock so I could install a few apps such as AdAway. I don't plan to do stock on this unless I can get get rooted stock rom.

When I rooted my phone I was wary of using methods that would have me going through either download mode or having to install a custom recovery (which eventually became pointless since I had to do both to flash roms anways lol) but at the beginning I was trying to use something simple.. while googling I stumbled upon this http://www.kingoapp.com/ and rooted from there.. it's like a one-click root kind of thing and seems to keep the root working regardless.. maybe you wanna check it out and see if it helps, in case you loose your root again. If you wanna run your phone stock but rooted, at least after doing the restoration via keys you'll keep the stock samsung recovery.
Hope it helps!

Thanx for that link/suggestion. I didn't see Note i717 listed under supported devices. Did you if this app supports rooting the i717?

I know, it doesn't show our device, but I kind of went with the home page "root all devices" statement they had and it worked perfectly fine. I did the same with my sister's Note 2 t0ltetmo which is in fact a canadian Videotron phone I gave her and worked fine too. I do not believe that that Note 2 is in the list either, but it still worked

Hey it worked some - I decided to test it on my old Captivate. The only thing is it doesn't install CWM/TWRP or similar. So I cannot install a custom ROM. Is it not supposed to install a custom recovery? If not how do I do that having rooted with Kingoapp?
Thanx again for suggesting this app.

My pleasure, and glad to hear it worked! And no, lol, sorry. The app only roots your phone, but it does not install a recovery. The good thing about it is that at least you can run stock and use any rooted apps, like I do with my Asus HD7 (for which, unfortunately I haven't found either a custom recovery or a custom ROM to flash, so I run it stock but mess around with root apps)
However..
I looked into this Galaxy Captive thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2547997 and didn't find a recovery itself that could be downloadble.
So while googling I stumbled upon this: http://true-android.blogspot.ca/2013/10/how-to-install-custom-recovery-in-most.html.
I my english is good enough to understand, it would seem as if the goomanager app allows u to install recoveries directly from your phone, so you could maybe try if you wish.. If u do, please let us know how it worked, as I'm sure others also would benefit from this.
If you want a CWM recovery for either the Note i717, the Note2 T889 or the S2 T989 let me know and I'll upload them, as those are the only ones I have ATM.
Cheers!
Hello guys, I am new to XDA. I've been reading a lot of forums before I decided to register. So, here is my dilemma... I have a Sprint Galaxy Nexus and tried to root it. I rooted it successfully but when I open SuperSU it says something about SU Binaries couldn't be found or old. I downloaded Superuser from the Play Store and that says my SU binary is out of date. When I click on Recovery Install nothing happens. Root Checker says i still have root access. Xposed Framework and GravityBox work like normal. When I clicked on SuperSU again, it said the same thing and this time, after that Root Checker said I have NO root access, but GravityBox and my other Xposed modules still work fine when changing stuff like status bar clock or something. Titanium Backup doesn't work at though, its stuck on "Asking for root rights" I don't know what to do! I don't wanna brick my phone but I want this fixed. Anybody got suggestions?

Do you have a custom recovery installed? If not, you should. If you do, then you should be able to just install the latest zip from Chainfire to get your binaries up to date and working properly.
Install this via custom recovery (CWM or TWRP) http://download.chainfire.eu/396/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.94.zip?retrieve_file=1
I have TWRP v.2.1.2 installed, and I also put on a different su binary I found on a website that said modified for Android 4.3 devices, before I did that I didn't have root access even when I tried too

UPDATE: Thank you so much! I installed this and now SuperSU works just fine, Titanium Backup works fine, and I can still use GravityBox!
:highfive:
So I started with unlocking bootloader and then downgrading my phone and rooted it. After that I installed existenz custom rom, but I had some freeze problems with it, so I downloaded a pre rooted stock 5.1.1 rom. (I wiped the phone in TWRP, before installation)
But know it seems to not be rooted, or at least half way rooted. I have superSU on it. If an app requests root permission superSU shows up and I can grant it etc. But nothing that wants to write in /system seems to work. So I cant use adaway, change DPI for example.
If I try any "root checker" it says i´m rooted.
Solved it with "se linux". I guess it´s something new since the last time I had android.
Hi
so I bought a new Moto Z because I wanna use Xposed. Had already another one, updated to Nougat unfortunately. So I bought a new one.
Unlocked bootloader, flashed Recovery, flashed TurboZ Kernel, (all after this guide) tried to root it. There is the problem.
Once I flashed SuperSU.zip and booted, opened SuperSU everything is fine. But when I open an app which requires root access, the grant access dialog opens, I grant access, but then the app freezes or doesnt recieve the access. I open SuperSU again and now theres a pop up dialog which only says "root undeteced" and a link to "How to root" on the SuperSU Homepage.
I tried with 2.82, 2.81, 2.79 (which has another dialog coming up saying "there is no super su data installed and super su cant install it) with the same link). Tried with 2.46, doesnt even install it via recovery flashing. Soooo....I dont know. Xposed is somehow working since I flashed it and modules are working fine but everything else isnt. Which is super weird.
I googled it of course and it seems that there is a problem with newer versions of super su atm where other people have the same issue. But I wanted it to use as my daily driver now and dont want to set it up if root doesnt work properly.
In some thread some guy suggested to install Magisk. Never heard of it. Read a bit about it....didnt quite get it. Is this a root alternative or something?
Can someone please help me. Its pretty annoying.
Thanks a lot already!
Cheers
Had issues with supersu, too. Installing magisk is indeed the way to go, and, yes, it is an alternative root method and more. Flash zip file in twrp, then install magisk manager from play store.
