I always used custom sounds for my email. Now with the update they are apparently gone. How can I control the notification sound gmail and texts make when they come in now?
The panel I used to control them before, is now gone.
thanks!

I have a strange problem. I had handcent installed, but it became laggy and I installed GoSms. I liked that better and I uninstalled handecnt.
The minute I did that, sms sound of notifications on GoSms went gone!
And I tried reinstalling it.... nothing,
I turned back on stock notifications, and they work normal (for stock messages, not GoSms)
I tried installing back handcent, but still no notification sound in GoSms, I don't understand!
I also installed some sound managers and what ever I do when handcent's notifications are disabled, all notifications are muted and you can't turn them back on what ever I do...
Help!
Stock notification for messaging only works on that app.
Maybe you can check the notification settings of Go SMS app itself.
After couple of hours I found the solution...I had to get my notification ringtone in system ringtones in GoSms, not in music (I selected the same mp3...),
stupid app...
I'm a bit perplexed at some of the notification sounds that my SGS3 I9300 keeps blurping from time to time; the obvious ones I can tell by looking at the notification bar; emails, SMS messages, alerts, ads, etc...other ones no indication whatsoever of what the notification is about just a sound. I can only guess that some autosyncing is grinding in the background but what are they??? (Both 'Notification' and 'Sync' are enabled). Anyone knows?
Anyone?
I did not experience any notification sounds asides from my usual applications.
Try turning off Accounts Sync and see if that works?
Also, do you have anything like air droid running? It makes a sound when it loads and connects.
The mystery is why notification sounds don't give any indication as to what I'm being notified about...even though disabling autosyncing stops some of the notifications but this won't help me to find out which app(s) is causing these notifications sounds in the first place.
Look through the different apps you get notifications about. You can check and modify their notification sounds from their respective settings.

Hey guys so I was wondering if there's a way to manage the notifications for apps separately. From what I understand this is a new feature of 4.2. I know I can get around it in liquidsmooth but I'm now back on touchwiz and would like a work around.
So here's the issue...
When in vibrate mode all notifications vibrate if the app's settings have sound notifications on. It doesn't matter if I uncheck vibrate in the app's settings.
What I would like to do is...
Be able to be in these three modes
1) silent mode - every notification is silent
2) vibrate mode - my texts, Google voice, Facebook messenger, and hangouts notifications vibrate, NOT my emails and various push notifications
3) sound mode - all notifications make a sound
This has been possible in previous versions of android and in aosp roms but haven't found a way to in touchwiz yet, haven't even found an app to manage notifications. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I have been searching high and low for a work around, no luck yet.
I don't know how many people use Whatsapp, but I've been trying to get custom notifications for my contacts. You can assign custom ringtones and custom notification sounds to your contacts on the contacts app, but in whatsapp, you can only select the ringtone. Has anybody been able to get whatsapp to use the notification sound instead of the ringtone?
Before anyone suggests it, I dont want to use a notification tone for the contacts ringtone. I use custom ringtones a lot to know when I need to quickly answer the phone or if I can let it ring and call back later.
Thanks!!

I believe not as the developer for whatsapp has not implemented this feature.

I'm new to the Samsung phones and can't seem to get notifications to show up on my lockscreen or get the led to flash. I know you have to set this up per app in settings but I can't seem to find an option that allows for this with notification sound turned off. I'm especially having issues with Twitter and Gmail.
TIA for the help.
If your profile is "silent" or "vibrate", the notification sound won't come out.
