Sub-Bass not working - Android 9 on Verizon - non-rooted - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

Prior to OTA updating my S9+ from O to P, sound output was beautiful from the time I purchased the phone last year. Specifically, sub-bass was some of the best I'd ever heard. Unfortunately, after updating (about 3 weeks ago), looks like sub-bass is non-functional. I've noticed this on ALL bluetooth devices I've played it on (my car, 3-4 different current model headsets/earpods etc which all support BT 1.4).
I've tried the following, with no luck:
1) 10 band EQs. Mid bass and upper bass changes DO reflect in the output, but changing the sub-bass slider has zero effect
2) Tried sub-bass apps that previously did a masterful job on Oreo, but literally zero effect. I could hear mid and upper bass being amplified, but the sound result is muffled garbage thanks to no sub-bass change.
3) Force stopped and disallowed system permissions for Samsung's Soundalive service, and then played with EQs and sub-bass booster apps again. No change.
4) Tried the above with all available bluetooth codecs in developer options (i.e. aptx etc). Same output quality
I haven't yet tried with a wired headset (mainly because I don't have one anymore ) , but I plan to as soon as I can find the Samsung ones that came with the phone.
There's been zero physical damage to the phone from the time I purchased it, just fyi, and as mentioned, the output difference was clear from the moment I updated to Pie. I also did a full factory reset a couple of days ago just in case any old apps were causing interference with DSP, and unfortunately the same result.
Has anyone else experienced the same after updating to Pie from Oreo (Verizon or not)?

I have the same problem.
Did you have found the solution?

I flashed back to 8.0 and notice the sound quality is better.

[Q] sound distortion partner sounds bass I sound high pitch

Hello every one.. I've had my Galexy 3s for nearly two years now and the last few weeks been getting very strange behavior..
I live in Brno Czech Rep. (maybe connectivity problems..) sometimes my phone works fine other times I get numerous sound issues:
1. Viber, whatsapp Skype - person I'm talking to voice comes through as very low bass whilst my voice sounds to them as high pitch-fast
forward type.
2. Regular phone calls- come through with cracking sounds (again not always)
3. These problems persist with or with out earphones plugged into device.
4. When issues start both rings and notification sound are distorted- normally sounding as if in slow motion.
I have recently done a factory reset on my device with no avail
my device is running Android 4.2.2
Kernel version: 3.0.31-611730
Thanks for any help

Mic in calls does barelly transmits any sound, unless you speak at <1 inch from it

When I place or receive a regular call the other person can barely hear me unless I speak less than 0.5 inches from the microphone. At less than 0.5t inches, they hear me good. At 2 inches extremely muffled or nill (this is the distance of the mouth in a regular call), and at 3 or more inches nothing at all.
Physically the mic however works fine when recording videos, so it has to be something non-physical. Also confirmed with a test on the Microphone at *#*#7378423#*#* where the both primary and secondary mics record fine.
In desperation I used flashtool and re-image the whole thing (even with erasing all data) with the latest XpriFirm ROM and tested it right after the successful image and without installing any 3rd party apps. The problem still there.
I also tried 3 different ROMs from different countries, but the problem still there.
Using a external wired headset mic works fine.
It seems, like a setting that is aggressively reducing the mic sensitivity just for the phone calls.
Ruled out 3rd party applications, mic physical damage or normal Android setting, I am really lost on to proceed from here!
Does anyone know what to do?

Model: E5823.
Bootloader has never been unlocked so no root.
Do you have the volume all the way up during the call? As in once call is started turn it up.
Idk how much it will help but have you tried to flash the soundmod? I have never had a problem with the mic other than a small echo on speakerphone. Also have you tried speakerphone wile in call? Might be something wrong with the phone apk, try a third party phone dialer? It wouldn't hurt to go through the sound menus to check everything as well.
Hi!
I doubt is a setting (in the Sound Effects options everything is off) since I flashed a stock clean ROM.
Did not know there are alternative dialers... I will study them today.
Regarding flashing the soundmod, can you do that without being rooted? If so, i'll search in how to do it too.
Cheers and thanks from just a couple of dozen miles south of you Sagnasty.
Have you tried to change the value of microphone sensitivity, although the option is in the Settings / Sound and Notification / Accessory Settings - turn mic sensitivity to high and see how it is then in a conversation?
The Speakerphone as suggested by civicsr2cool was surprising... the mic just picks up voice just fine from the distance in that setting!!
Then I just played with those mic sound settings as per Monipeev, (I did that days ago) but now it did something and in any sensitivity setting works fine... it must have been playing with this setting and the speakerphone one that may have unstuck some mic glitch.
Thanks so much guys... and two think I spend hours trying to solve this and even flashing ROMs! :victory:
Hi everybody. It happend to me with my Xperia Z5 compact as well - the mic did not work properly during call, but when I tested it offline the mic was OK. Playing with settings did not work as well as factory reset, so I ordered microphone spare part from China (ca 2$) and replaced it. Then the problem disappeared. I agree with polar_bay above it seems like mic glitch - I think my spare mic was slightly different from the original (maybe less sensitive) and that's it. Maybe also complete voltage drop (battery disconnection) helped to unstuck it.
My recommendations are:
1. play with mic settings (sw)
2. open the phone and disconnect the battery for a while (1 minute)
3. place small&thin absorber between mic and hole in phone case
4. replace microphone
hi, I have just bought another used xperia z5 compact as my other device has gotten old. after I received the new one I almost directly rooted it installed twrp and flashed lineageos 17. after a while I recognized that the microphone is not working during calls, only if the speaker is enabled. also when i want to record audio or use the tuner it doesn't work.
is there any chance to find out if it is a hardware problem or if it can be solved by some setting or so, be it coding?
thanks for any hints!

Bluetooth audio - stuttering/jittering

Got a new S9+ this week and BlueTooth audio is essentially unusable - when playing media such as Audible or Spotify it stutters and skips every few seconds. Trying to use a BT handsfree for phone calls gives heavily degraded sound (seems to effect both what is output and the input from the mic as well). Remote SIM mode seems to work fine (which leads me to think the problem is specific to BT audio rather than BT in general).
Things I've tried:
1. Delete all pairings and re-create - No difference
2. Clear cache for all Bluetooth system apps - Didn't fix it, seemed to give me a few minutes stutter-free but then again I've probably had periods that long before so it's hard to say for sure whether that was responsible.
3. Tried two different bluetooth devices to connect to - No difference.
I've been googling on this for a couple of days and only found cases where either one of the above worked or that they were still having problems.
It's absolutely driving me mad!

Warning - Pie 9.0 messes with the headphone output - quieter, different sound profile

== Warning: Pie 9.0 screws with the audio through the headphones and speakers on my H873! The equalization is different and output volume is quieter than 7/8!! If you bought the G6 for the sound profile, you'll lose it in Pie. Even equalizing manually doesn't bring it in line with 7/8. Other users of other makes have also noticed this Pie problem on Samsungs, etc. ==
You could start with something like this equalization in the music player to try and restore the original profile of the G6.
https://ibb.co/r3YWgbZ
Basically, don't touch Pie 9.0 unless you don't care about headphone and speaker sound volume and quality and lots of tweaking.
(This sound problem in Pie has also been reported by others using Samsungs, Sony, etc.)
custom or stock? I don't have problems wit custom, it's even much louder than stock oreo
Stock H873 pie firmware from lg-firmwares.com.
They basically messed it up and without root, no way to go in and edit the default volume settings.
Need to bump it up using the EQ settings in the music player.
They also messed up the use of the square icon in the bottom toolbar to quickly switch between the current and prior app. It doesn't consistently switch apps and often comes right back to the same app.
The audio sounds better to me, it could be that you need to bend the audio pins out because of a bad ground, you can Google lg G6 bad audio quality for how to fix it if that is the problem
Unfortunately, it's not a hardware problem since the speakers output is quieter than in 7/8.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-7-pro/help/android-10-headphone-volume-lower-pie-t3976603/amp/
This is a STUPID 9/10 problem that is plaguing not only the G6, but all sorts of Samsung Galaxies and other brands as well.
It's been widely reported across xda, reddit, and elsewhere. Unfortunately, the H873 doesn't have root, so no way to tweak the OS directly.

Update 9.1.0.326 Bluetooth sound quality degraded

Hey everyone
A couple of days ago EMUI prompted that a new update with some system settings changed arrived and required a reboot. After that, mysterious things started to happen...
For whatever reason, SOME sound apps (audible, google podcasts) are now having a terrible sound through bluetooth - it has a metallic echo which resembles an empty room effect. While OTHER apps (probably that play music, such as yandex music) do not experience that. I've tried my car audio and Bose QC35 with the exact same result =( I'm baffled as to what is going on and how to fix it. I've tried switchin between codecs in realtime but that didn't change anything.
I would appreciate any ideas, really don't want to do hard reset....
Build number: 9.1.0.326(C10E3R1P13patch01)
Nic quality
Nic quality bluetooth sound speaker
Just to update here: my issue has been resolved with 9.1.0.350
