Updating Sony Xperia Z2 Docomo - Xperia Z2 Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!, I have difficutly in the docomo z2 tab firmware I feel not really comfortable with the bloatware, and docomo stuffs. Should I stay in 4.4 or upgrade to 5.0 or maybe change to global version?

the bloatware from Sony are present in all firmwares, the only difference is that in EU/US versions it's only Sony stuff, in japanese it's also operators apps. All Sony Xperia devices for Japan made specifically with locked bootloader, so you can't use custom clean firmware here, maybe it's possible to delete apps but you need to get root, which is possible with some work even on locked bootloader. But i prefer to just disable maximum as possible, i don't need to use devices for super sensitive information yet, so for now i tolerate presense of some bloatware.
Considering updating, japanese Sony devices can be easily updated to latest global versions (local japanese firmwares sometimes behind global for many Sony devices, in Xperia Z2 tablet the last version for Japan is only Lollipop, but the global is Marshmallow many years already).
You can easily update to Marshmallow official firmware by Flashtool from any country version (except few - like Verizon USA are not flashing), but there's some things which you loose if flashing EU Marshmallow version:
1. NFC - in japanese Sony devices it's different chip or something than in european version.
2. Tethering - global versions of this Z2 tablet with 32Gb is only Wi-fi models - you can flash them easily but there's no tethering at all (because Wi-fi models with no SIM slot), there's no even bluetooth internet sharing, this function are removed from Wi-fi only firmwares.
3. 32Gb - as mentioned above - only Wi-fi models with 32Gb, others are only 16Gb, you are loosing serious amount of space - i tested that and really regretted after month using esp. with big video files like movies and etc., 16Gb is very small for normal use.
So, there's a way to get above this problems but you need to flash your device with flashtool 2 times with different firmwares.
1. To get Marshmallow with 32Gb and NFC - flash fully the latest firmware for SGP512 (USA version) - it's 32Gb and NFC works, but because it's Wi-fi model - to preserve storage size and receive Tethering and SIM card functions do step 2. Install it, activate as usual welcome screen. Turn off and ready to flash again.
2. Take any global firmware for SGP521 and flash it with ONLY such parts – system, kernel and cache (apps_logs and userdata - choose wipe), if it asks for FSC - choose NO. Do not choose other parts.
So in result you will get a combined SGP521 firmware - with NFC, 32Gb, SIM, so like fully working Marshmallow on japanese Xperia. This solution do not require any hacking, it's very easy.
This solution works for all other firmwares, for example if you want to obtain 5.1.1 Lollipop the only available version left is for Ireland (i forgot the number, will write later), there's nowhere else this verison, japanese are only 5.0, but to have a working NFC and 32Gb - you need to flash japanese 5.0 and flash again EU 5.1.1 (only system and kernel again) = you will get fully working 5.1.1 which is rarest on this device.

In addition to my reply:
the original Kitkat 4.4.2 17.1.1.C.1.45 can be upgraded by system & kernel of SGP521 model O2 IE 23.0.1.A.0.167 to Kitkat 4.4.4 (rare on this device)
the original japanese 23.1.G.2.151 Lollipop 5.0.2 by system and kernel of SGP521 model VMo LAM 23.4.A.1.232 to Lollipop 5.1.1 (rare on this device)
the SGP512 VMo US/CA/PR (Wi-fi 32 Gb) 23.5.A.1.291 with system and kernel SGP521 model Customized CE1 23.5.A.1.291 to sim/tethering functionality
excluding all parts of firmware except system and kernel, bootloader kept locked

As i know the last one official Android on locked Japanese Z2 tablets is only Android 5.0 Lollipop. It's the only way to update it to version 6, i used Windows 7 and much older flashtool like 0.9.20 - 0.9.23, the most last one version is something changed there it's crushing/not working, old one very stable.
Getting Nougat there (which will bring better battery and multitasking) on locked bootloader which Sony never unlock in Japan - only possible if someone repack old Nougat Developer Preview made for Xperia z3 smartphone i think (which is very good and stable on smartphone). I want to try that but for now stuck with hackintosh of tuning-up Mojave MacOS on my Toshiba Dynabook.

How can I install AICP Pie 9.0 ROM on docomo Xperia Z2 tablet?

[Q] No mobile network or invalid SIM with with 7/8 ROMS. Why?

I've been using the pac-man ROM for over a year now, but it's a very old version, buggy and outdated. I wanted to try Kit Kat or basically just find a stable ROM, but pretty much ALL of the ROMS i've tried end up unable to find any mobile network or display the SIM card as invalid. Even when I search for networks or try to add a network manually, it still doesn't stick. Occassionally it'll even find the my local network when I go in settings and do a network search, my network being that of China Unicom, but it always results in failure to subscribe, please try again later. This has happened on a good 7 out of 8 ROMS i've flashed. The ONLY ROM i've ever been able to find a network on and thus make it usable has been the old 2013 pac-man 3.99 build. I've searched the forum and google for answers, such as flashing a particular modem or whatnot, but haven't found any solutions.
Does anyone have any ideas? It'd be greatly appreciated. I really need an updated ROM! :fingers-crossed:
If it matters:
Network: China Unicom
I've tried: 4.4.4 CM11, Stone UI hD3, Carbon KK Unofficial 2014-12, CM10.2 nightly, CM 11 M9, KitKat CarbonCN, PC Honami KK RC3, and Xperia Z Z1-1.4.
Only working ROM so far: pa_togari-3.99-RC2-20131104
To use the more modern ROMs you will have to be on a 4.4.4 FTF or you will get baseband issues ie SIM cant connect to network etc

It's been over a year since I unlocked and flashed my phone, and I haven't done any flashing since, so I kind of forget some of the procedures and technical aspects.
I'm going over the FAQ now, and one thing it says is "Never Flash a FTF to a ZU GPe." What is a GPe, and how can we make sure we are not using it?
It also mentioned I should use Sony PC Companion to update to the newest firmware. This means it will update to 4.4.4 FTF right, or do I need to find this and flash it manually? Likewise, after I'm on 4.4.4, I assume my phone will be reverted back to stock. Would I have to root it and unlock the bootloader again?
I remember when doing all this for my phone the first time, since my phone was a Chinese model, 6833 I believe, I went through hell and back for several weeks until it flashed and took the current ROM properly. Something about buggy firmware in that paritcular model, although it's been so long I forgot all the details. I'm worried that I'll run into a similar situation with 4.4.4... Thanks for any help, truly appreciated.

I tried to update to KK via Sony Pc Companion, but it says my phone is up to date. I assume it says that because it's not seeing any official firmware, due to the flashed ROM. Even when choosing the option to "repair my phone" which says it will re-install the latest available firmware, it states that there is no software available for my device. If memory serves me correct, I must first flash back to my oldest stock firmware that came with my phone, then I can use PC companion to update to KK, and then maybe unlock bootloader and root again, and then I'll be able to flash new ROMs and have a working mobile network, does that sound right?
Out of curiosity, since it's 4.4.4 ROMs that don't seem to work (network wise), doesn't that mean 4.3 ROMs should find a network just fine?

I cant remember where/when the baseband changed, it has been updated several times. I would just go straight to 4.4.4 and not worry about PC Companion - Just use the latest flashtool (http://flashtool.net).
Grab a 4.4.4 (aka x.x.x.108 or .118) FTF from the FTF thread in the dev section and flash that. That will wipe all user data (so back it up) and install a new /system image. You will have to root the device again abut 4.4.4 is easy to root now with the easyroot tool. Then you should be on the latest baseband and all the new ROMs should work - 4.4.4 and 5.0.x
Thanks blueether, I'll give that a go and report back (hope you don't mind). Here's hoping (since i know the 6833 chinese model is finicky)...

You mentioned I should get a *.108 or 118 in order to get the ROMs working again (mobile network wise).
I found in the FTF repository: STOCK ROM] [FTF] Xperia Z Ultra 6833 14.4.A.0.118 "VodaFone UK" and also "SRF FR".
I'm using a 6833 in China, however. My guess is these wouldn't work because they require different networks.
Doesn't matter? Or perhaps, I just flash any 118, and that will give me the newest firmware. Then I can flash other ROMs (that use the same firmware), which will have updated modems, and consequently get my network signal back. Is this how it works? Want to be 100% sure before I go flashing with firmware that would make my phone unusable. Thanks for any advice!

Possible to Change Device Default Region?

So I ended up ordering my Z3 Tablet Compact from a Japanese retailer and when I check for updates using Sony's Xperia "Update Center" it still links to the co.jp website. Is there anyway I could change the region so that when I do my Lollipop Update I could fully switch over to US default for everything?
I'm using the 16GB Wifi model SGP611 currently on Build Number: 23.0.1.A.0.167
yes, Flash a FTF file for the region you want. You could flash a US FTF now and wait for the US lollipop release, or you could flash the noba lollipop now.

[ROM][STOCK][5.0.2][C6833] Xperia Z Ultra Pre-Rooted Firmware 14.5.A.0.270 (Lollipop)

Hello, here is a TWRP-flashable pre-rooted original Sony's Lollipop firmware for Xperia Z Ultra. It was made with the aid of Flashtool, Xperifirm and PRFCreator. I thank the authors of these wonderful tools. I encourage you to make your own pre-rooted firmware yourself, but if you are just not interested in such things and your Xperia Z Ultra is C6833, you can just grab it here.
There is just a couple of requirements to get this flashed: any recent version of TWRP already installed to your phone and a microSD memory card. So yes, you need to find a way to install TWRP on your Ultra somehow. Note: ClockworkMod may seem to install this fine also, but in my case the system actually was not properly installed and numerous errors did emerge, so I do not recommend use it for installation.
Here is some technical info regarding this firmware:
Phone: Sony Xperia Z Ultra (codename: Togari)
Phone Version: C6833
Origin: Stock (original by Sony, nothing removed)
Branding: No Brand
CDA: 1276-7737
Market: Russia
Operator: Customized RU
Firmware release: 14.5.A.0.270 / R2D
Here what have been integrated in the firmware by PRFCreator:
SuperSU: v2.46
LockedDualRecovery: v2.8.15
And finally here is the link to the firmware itself on Mega.

You're welcome. I will share stock pre-rooted ROMs once Sony will release them. I think we may expect at least an upcoming update to 5.1.
Hi,
I am in CrDroid CM12.1 based ROM with TWRP recovery, and would like to flash this ROM. My bootloader is already unlocked, but you have mentioned that you have integrated "LockedDualRecovery", does this mean my bootloader will be again locked ? Do I need to unlock bootloader again to flash CM based ROM, if I would like to do in future ?
Thanks

[US GENERIC E5506] Problem finding 5.1.1 FW update after flashing back to 5.0

Hello and thank you greatly for taking the time to read my thread, your help and wisdom is greatly appreciated.
I will provide a short and long summary of the events that unfolded with my US GENERIC/UNBRANDED [Amazon.com] SONY Xperia C5 Ultra [E5506]
Short:
I need to update from 5.0 to 5.1 but can't seem to via OTA/Sony PCC despite being able to previously. Is there a way to do this, and preferably, not lose my data [as when I updated from 5.0 to 5.1 before with Sony PCC]
Long:
Initially I had no problems updating my phone using Sony PC Companion to 5.1.1, but I also had no root access at the time and didn't know of any exploits/etc to gain root that were available.
I ended up on 5.1.1 and after some time used KINGROOT to root followed by SUPER-SUME Pro to try and switch root management software from the sketchy KINGROOT to SuperSU by chainfire.
SUPER-SUME Pro failed on step 2 of 2, and afterwards I had severe problems with my SD card applications and random phone restarts and "Optimizing apps... 1 of 246" Before this however 5.1.1 was working great.
I tried to factory reset but I didn't know about Xperia's anti theft protection and it had an error on 5.1.1 where upon trying to un-lock the phone from the Xperia website or device itself would fail.
On the device it would display "Xperia Care has crashed." when trying to authenticate the user.
I read that this was a common issue with C4/C5 devices running 5.1.1 and that many foreign users were having to ship their phone to USA Texas repair centers.
Instead of this I read and followed a guide on using XperiFirm+FlashTool to flash the original 5.0 back to the device. After this the phone was still in Xperia LOCKDOWN mode, but Xperia Care didn't crash and I was able to update my phone using my google account login.
The firmware I flashed was
Code:
Device: Xperia C5 Ultra (E5506)
CDA: 1299-5697
Market: USA
Operator: Customized US
Network: GENERIC
Release: 29.0.A.1.55 / R1A
Size: 1.31 GB
The problem I'm now having is that neither my phone via OTA, Sony PC Companion, or XperiFirm seem to have an R1A US update available from 29.0.A.1.55 / R1A [Android 5.0] to 29.1.A.0.87 / R1A [Android 5.1.1]
They all report that my 5.0 install is the latest version, and via the XperiFirm tool there is no other firmware listed other than the 29.0.A.1.55 / R1A [Android 5.0]
At this point I don't care about root so much as just being able to get back to 5.1.1 from 5.0.
Is there any assistance that anyone can provide? I have tried to find a 5.1.1 firmware to flash but all are other regions. Is there anyway to get Sony PCC to update or find the update OTA? I'm confused as to why the update seems to be missing for the US region when my phone is a US model and had the update before.
I was also hoping there was a way if I do find the firmware that I could flash it w/o losing application/user data, as I already extensively set everything up again.
Thanks again so much for reading and I greatly appreciate any wisdom the XDA-Dev forum has for me.
[I had screenshots of XperiFirm/Phone Info/PCC but I can't have outside links in my post as I'm a new forum member]
I flashed the Canadian WIND CA 29.1.A.0.87 R3A firmware (as I figured this was the closest thing to a US region firmware if there was differences) via FlashTool and didn't wipe Data and everything seems to be working great so far, back to the improved speed and lower system memory footprint that Lollipop 5.1 offered.
Hello again,
Does anyone have a copy of the Android 5.1 US Generic CDA 1299-5697 29.1.A.0.87 firmware? I can't find it on xperifirm, and ended up having to flash the WIND CA Canadian branded 5.1 when re-flashing 5.1 on my phone because the xperifirm 5.0 stated no updates available despite my US Generic branded C5 Ultra having previously updated fine through Sony PCC. :/
Having trouble finding it and now it despites my data plan is HSPA+/4G instead of LTE. Any ideas?
Wind in Canada is a 3G only carrier, and they don't enable LTE in their firmware.
How would I go about flashing a firmware that has LTE enabled if I can't find the US Generic firmware on xperifirm? Is there another 5.1 fw that would be safe?

In a rush so this will be short.
1. Flash back to stock US 5.0 full .tft
2. Next flash any 5.1 tft using only system.sin and boot.sin re-read/see my #1 post in the Flashtool thread for instruction. :good:
NOTE to ALL:
STOP FLASHING THE ENTIRE .TFT's THERE IS NO NEED UNLESS YOU HAVE A BRICK
Thank you so much for your quick response;
I did this [Flashed US stock 5.0, then just the system/boot from 5.1] and instead of displaying "4G" at the top when connected to data it now displays "H+"; is this AT&T LTE? I tried googling a bunch of information but got a lot of different answers.
I feel like when I was originally on the US 5.0>5.1 that Sony PCC installed [before the root incident/flash back to 5.0>Wind 5.1] that it said LTE at the top but maybe I just imagined it? Thanks again so much for taking time out of your day to help me, it's greatly appreciated. _(._.)_
EDIT: Just downloaded LTE On Off from the google play store and set the preferred network to LTE and it's showing LTE connection now, I did a speed test using speedof.me/m/, is 10 Mbps down / 2.7 Mbps up sound accurate for LTE?

I am not too sure about the US "LTE" or what all the bands mean in the US as they are very confusing
From my memory I seem to recall someone explaining about how at&t use a combo two 2/3G bands and call it LTE (4G) band ???? and 1700 I think
Sorry I can't be more helpful but you may get some better info from a US user. :fingers-crossed:

Question about firmware versions

Hello!
I am a bit lost with FW versions for XZ1...
I bought US unlocked G8342 version from Amazon and it came with 47.1.A.2.273 - which, aster some searching around, seems to be quite old...
I got xperiafirm and I see that it is listing 47.1.A.8.49 / R5B as current USA custom firmware - anyone can explain why my phone (and Sony companion) think that I have the latest when Sony servers have newer version?
I like having more recent FW on my devices - should I get Central European version (which is even newer - 7.1.A.12.34 / R6B) - will Sony provide OTA upgrades for me here in US?
Will I lose anything with CE1 FW, like any US-specific GSM/LTE bands?
Or should I get current US version via xperiafirm and hope that Sony will keep it updated going forward?
(I know, that I'll get fingerprint sensor with CE1 FW, but this is not that important for me).
Appreciate any insight!
