Fortnite turning around freezes? Is it solvable? - Xiaomi Poco F1 Questions & Answers

The way the bug works is that when playing on a poco f1, when you try to turn around or look around without using the dedicated shoot-whileturning buttom, the game decides to freeze for a short second before actually looking towards the desired direction. I do not knoe if this glitch is exclusive to the poco f1 however I have played on a Samsung S8 before and the bug does not seem to be present. Overall it makes the gane feel choppy despite the SD 845 processor I have. Just now its 1 question, is it solvable?

i play with a controller and don't have this problem... maybe it's touch-related?!?

[Q] TV-out slows down phone badly?

Hi, I'm trying to connect my phone with the HDMI cable i've got in box with my full hd tv.
Everything seems to work great - except it seems that my phone slows down noticably - in games, ui responsiveness, everything - i take it may be because outputs 1080p signal to the tv and tries to upscale it?
Did anyone notice that ui responsiveness is not that smooth when the phone is connected to their tv? I was thinking there might be a way to output 720p signal to the tv instead ?
Anyone else experienced this?
It connects at 720p by default.
Ive had it connected to my Monitor at 1080 and 720 and the phone still runs great at either resolution
Can you configure how it connects ? my tv reports 1080 resolution when i plug it in.
And i have like 1/3rd of performance - especially if i try to run any game like cut the rope.
yaeh , just tested again, connects as 1080p and when its connected even scrolling of options or bringing up top dropdown bar is not fluid anymore.
What verson of firmware do you use ? Mine is 6.0.A.3.62.
Ive tried to change the "output quality" setting, but it doesnt seem to do anything in my case. I can only set scaling of phone screen on tb 80%-100% regulation.
Ok, so i've found a "scientific" measurable way to test.
In quadrant (free test in market) i get following results:
Without tv plugged in: ~3100, flyby in room with stairs 30-50 fps
With TV plugged in: ~2700, flyby in room with stairs 20-25 fps so only 50% of what i get normally and it has visible frame skip
Can someone check that on your phone and post your results?
I will give it a try as well when I am done with battery test.

Mine was:
Without tv plugged in: 32-42fps score: 3183
With tv plugged in: 23-26fps score: 2876
Hmmm...
ok so we do have a problem then, since your results confirm mine ....
Now i only hope this is some kind of firmware/driver issue,
Games are completly unplayable (at least for me) when phone is plugged to tv, even simple ones like Canabalt from humblebundle ....
Would be good if someone with firmware different than .62 could post their results.
Quick test with Angry Birds:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=auksuKwrGsE
Still on .67
Yup, I can easly see 0.5s delayed response to your finger on the movie.
Ok, any ideas what now? I'm trying to contact Sony support but so far no luck.
This is completly unacceptable for such expensive phone.
So this 0.5sec delay is what's bothering you?
Bothering? this renders this phone useless for any other gaming except things like angry birds where you dont have to react on time - besides some other games like canabalt (where you have constantly scrolling fast screen) lag and drop frames like crazy - totaly unusable. Even "cut the rope" where you need to be precise is non-playable.

Check out this video on Xperia Arc S - in the end they run Angry Birds Rio and there is no problem like this present.
I also think that running "ubuntu for android" and using is would be a very bad experience with this kind of issues
So yeah... im pretty bothered overall with delay and 50% framedrop.
Got response from sony support that they got notified about an issue and there will be be a firmware update in next 10 days that i hope might correct the issue.

I have to admit, that's a good point. I haven't looked at this from this point of view. Now we have to wait for fix, or maybe there is a way to make it work properly.
Yeah, its interesting to me, that the video of Xperia Arc S i've posted above seems to indicate that the phone doesnt have any issues when connected to tv. So im hoping its something easly fixable with software.
I have uploaded new, longer version now, icluding Angry Birds, Quadrant and video playback:
Sony Xperia S - HDMI TV-out delay - Angry Birds + Quadrant + Playback
Found another one as well:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m97iy8XEXc4
Awesome work, now it would be great if we could get attention of someone who made custom roms for Xperias - Maybe they would have a better idea whats going on. On posted videos the problem is more visible.
Im not sure if its really "input lag", i would rather blame some kind of rendering problem - input lag is probably a side effect of this.
I don't have mine yet but could it be because the phone's having to render to 2 screens (one at 720 and one at 720/1080)?. Doing this on a pc increases the load on the system even if the screens are cloned - it would be the same on the phones/tablets as well.
From the little testing I did with my Archos 70 before giving up on trying to get it doing HDMI out reliably (wonky £1 adapter at fault maybe) I found that turns the internal screen off and just uses the touch area as a trackpad so as to give maximum performance to the output.
Now the specs of the Archos 70's are a bit poor at best but it does what I want it for - playing music and video while having a nice big 250gb drive. The specs on the latest round of phones should certainly have the power to run 2 screens without issue. However, any resource intensive work (games for example) would degrade performance in such situations.
Are there any similar problems when playing back video?
Maybe try some less intensive games like Robotek or Frozen Bubble?
I would rather say, there is a delay only. When watching above videos, what comes to your mind first? Delay or lag? I would say there is a delay, because picture is rather smooth. So in that case, it would be a matter of changing some settings, rather than phone can't perform running two screens. Arc s can do it, so Xperia S should be even better.
Not having used either handset and with what you've said, I'd say it's more than likely to be a software issue somewhere. Going by Sony's recent behaviour with updates and support little problems like this should be resolved sooner rather than later.
This is what is drawing me to the Xperia for my next handset as HTC seem to just abandon things once something new is out.
Once I get mine I'll hopefully be able to help out a bit more with stock rom problems.

Has anyone tried using google daydream with Moto Z?

So I've heard that Lenovo Moto Z is the new daydream ready phone. Have you tried using it with daydream view? How is the performance? I also heard that this phone tends to overheat. Is it a problem when playing in VR?
I know the Pixel phones have been producing a lot of heat while using daydream. The reason for the heat is the amount of power required to run VR which causes the phone to throttle from all the heat being produced. You can expect about the same amount of heat considering the specs of the phone. I could imagine the Moto Z would perform about the same as the Pixel considering the Pixel only has a slightly over clocked version of the Snapdragon 820 used in the Z. Since people have just started receiving the Android N update for the Z more people should be able to comment on actual performance soon. Hope this somewhat helped.
I have the Moto Z and the daydream headset is on the way. I'll give a review on what I think when it arrives in a few days. And how long it takes to overheat (get the on screen overheating message). Anything else you want me to check out on it?
The daydream headset is good on the moto z. The biggest annoyance is that the headset allows some light to come in on the side. I imagine this will vary for each person based on head/face shape. I've played with it multiple times for 30+ minutes. I never got the message about getting too hot. But every time I took it out the phone was way too hot to hold. I mean it would probably burn your hand if you held onto it. Which kind of worries me. But I would set it down and not use for for 15+ minutes and it would be back to normal. The headset/remote is better than a google cardboard. But the app/game selection is not as good and the samsung gear vr. But may get there over time. There is very few apps/games available. I did see both netflix and hulu are on it but didn't try either one yet. The battery usage was less than 10 percent for the 30 minutes or so I used it for.
If google keeps pushing it. It will be a worthwhile purchase in 6 months to a year. But if you buy one now just expect a better google cardboard experience.
I agree, daydream app is very buggy due to heat issue. I used youtube app for vr and the phone was normal, but using youtube vr app inside daydream for 30 minute causes extreme heat that can burn your hands! I highly not reccommend using daydream app for now bc it could cause serious damage to the battery.
I have tried, I feel that it's zoomed in too much.
For example in netflix, I almoust don't see the the whole tv. But also in other apps some menus is partly outside the view.
I made a post about it on reddit in the daydream forum (not allowed to post links here, so you have to find it your self, title is "Daydream on Moto Z too zoomed in")
Yeah, the heat issue was very scary. I've never had a phone get that hot in such a short period. I didn't know if the hardware is just getting pushed too hard or its a software problem. I'm hoping for the latter.
And if/when google comes out with a new version of the daydream view headset. They need to make it not so much "one size fits all". I have a cheap plastic cardboard that was only 15 bucks and has better adjustments and fit than the daydream view. I could stand it with the cardboard since it was so cheap.
But I will say the controller is very good. But it needs a button or two on the bottom/top edge. Or games are going to be very basic and probably not catch on. Unless they add the option to use a second daydream controller. Then oculus rift/htc vive style games can be made for it.
Strange, I have upgraded to Nougat on my Moto Z bit the Daydream app is still "incompatible with my device". Anyone know what's going on?
Thanks
Ken
I have a daydream headset lying around. Used it 2-3 times on my z force and now it's gathering dust... Novelty at best. It did work well with the phone though. Only issue I found was the mask's strap was hard to adjust so it would stay put.
I have Moto z and daydream . It gets hot but have never gotten the overheat warning. Use it while wife sleeps with Bluetooth headphones to watch Netflix or Hulu . And ignore the guy who says it's too zoomed in. You can adjust it within each app. For Netflix just look up at the ceiling and a menu allows size adjust for screen , and to let you move the screen so you can lay on your back while watching . Can do similar on Hulu . I recommend opening the apps separate without going through Google daydream though maybe that's the heating issue. But yea I've used daydream app for 5 hours strait and my phone didn't over heat.
Did anyone tried to use it with a custom rom or are you all talking about stock experience?

Problems currently plaguing the POCO F1

I have made this thread since a lot of problems which are currently plaguing the POCO F1 are not being discussed properly on XDA. I intend that people will relate to the issues i am posting here which are still unfixed.
1. SLOW CHARGING
The charging speed on the poco has reduced due to thermal throttling. As soon as the battery temperature hits 37, the speed drastically reduces. I can confirm this and i have extensively tested it. I put my poco in front of an air conditioner which reduced battery temperature and the charging bumped upto 2700-2800mah.
Now thermal throttling is good(Especially since its summer season in India) but they should increase a thresholds a bit. My brother used a Asus Zenfone5z and my dad uses a Galaxy S10. On both these sets the charging throttling is not so harsh.
The narrow tolerance range of temperature while charging has lead to extremely bad charging times. This needs to be fixed.
2. Audio Issues ( Especially PUBG)
Try wearing earphones while playing PUBG in a poco and in a different phone. You will instantly notice how muffled/low the sound is in poco. You can barely make out the direction from which the footsteps are coming or the gunshots are being fired. I never realized this untill i played PUBG while wearing earphones in other cellphones. The sound in poco earphones is extremely low. I am not talking about songs in which case the sound loudness seems to be fine. This is mostly the case while playing games.
3. Speakerphone Loudness
I swear the speakerphone loudness had decreased over time. The poco was plenty loud at the start. Now the main speaker loudness just sucks. Whether its watching youtube, netflix or anything else. They have definitely decreased audio volume. Speaker generates considerable amount of heat. Try watching a movie which is already downloaded on your cell and after sometime you will notice that the hottest area to touch of the whole phone is around the main speaker(and not the cpu or gpu).
This makes me wonder whether the main speaker quality was bad right from the start and Xiaomi actually lowered volume to help avoid any issues. In any case, watching youtube is not as fun as before due to low sounding speaker now.
4.Touch Screen Issues
Well what to say about this. I mean there are tons of thread about this already. Xiaomi just release new touch drivers in Miui beta 9.5.6. This means they are still trying to fix touch issues even after almost 9 months of launch. Whether it is multi touch, ghost touch or missed touches. Poco has it all.
The reason is simple. Poor quality touch sensor. Its a hardware issue. Poco had to cut corners somewhere and the touchscreen was the component which took a big hit. The display quality of poco is general is also not good. But i am not complaining due to what all the poco gives at the price point it sit in.
But the touch sensor should not have been compromised with. This is something unacceptable. The general usage experience of the poco due to touch issues is really bad. It frustrates me daily. I have tried tons of custom firmwares too. But then the issue has to be fixed(if at all it can be ever fixed) through vendor firmware. Custom roms or kernels will never fix it. The most major issue of Poco f1-----------still unfixed----its terrible touchscreen.
5. Auto Rotation
I am not sure if many people have noticed this but the auto rotation while using youtube is extremely bad. This is something i won't be able to explain properly but can say this that i am sure many of you find the auto rotation in youtube not to be a seamless experience. This is not the case in other phones.
The accelerometer in general works fine. So i am mostly sure that this must be a software optimization issue.
6. No 4g+ Vodafone
I don't know whats the deal here but poco will never catch 4g+ in Vodafone. At the same spot other phones from nokia, samsung etc does but poco does not. My poco catches 4g+ in Jio but not Vodafone. No matter the spot, the finding remains the same. How can two different manufacturers produce two different results at the same spot even when both the sets in question have lte advanced capability.
I can only assume that there must be some internal issue between xiaomi and Vodafone due to which poco does not support 4g+ in Vodafone. If any1 reading this post has latched onto Vodafone 4g+ successfuly while using a poco please let us know.
P.S.
Using POCO F1 64GB/6GB Indian variant running Miui Global Beta 9.5.17. These issues have persisted through both stable and beta builds and i have tried all.
I have the Global version of the F1 running Stock MIUI 10.3.4.0 locked bootloader and have not encountered any of the issues you are having.
I had touch problems playing PUBG on poco where the screen just froze and i couldn't do anything, locking and unlocking the phone worked sometimes but it still is a problem
Also had thermal throttling playing pubg for more than 20 minutes, fps dropped down and phone got hot
I don't play any games on my phone anymore so these aren't problems for me anymore but there is one big problem and that being the "call echo" , almost everyone who i had a call with complains about hearing their own voice and it's very annoying, so I'd say this is a very important issue and needs a fix immediately
You must be on stable build then. The echo is fixed in beta builds. Can anyone confirm this??? I am not entirely sure but no one is complaining about echo now to me. Was complaining earlier though.
I can confirm for the speaker loudness issue with listening to songs through headphones or earphones the sound is good.
But the speaker is not that loud and i constantly need to keep changing volumes when watching YouTube video through speaker.
In pubg i need to keep the sound at full through earphones then only its usable. Before this Poco i was using Zenfone Max Pro M1 and its sound quality was lot better as compared to poco at least with speakers and in pubg,i never used to keep my sounds more than 60-65 %.
Nice topic!
Anyways I'm completely agree with your point 1,2 & 3.
For Point No. 4 I didn't face any touch issue yet. I bought this device 21 sept. 2018. But I heard that many people have touch related issue. So maybe I'm lucky one.
For Point No. 5, I didn't face any auto rotation issue till date.
For Point NO. 6, I don't have vodafone But I saw a screenshot of poco f1 somewhere, It shown 4g+ at status bar with vodafone network.
I'm on miui global beta 9.5.9

They have definitely reduced speaker volume. Though its not that bad but its lower than before and as you said, while watching youtube etc, slight background nooses ruins the whole experience. It was louder before for sure.
However, the audio in pubg while using earphones...the difference feom other phones is MASSIVE. People need to check other phones to realise what i am talking about.

Auto rotation is a minor issue in only youtube... Not that major i agree... Lucky you got a touch issue free device.
Touch issues are there thats why they recently released new touch drivers in 9.5.6.
Can you share that screenshot bro??
The only major issue I have for now is audio loudness, I used to listen songs on YouTube at around 80% volume but after recent updates even full volume feels insufficient. Also I feel BT volume has gone down though I am not sure about it.
Touch issues are there for me too but I dont play any game so its a minor thing for me

I think they reduced volume so as to generate less heat. Speaker generates good amount of heat. Maybe high volume would have lead to high heat and damage to speaker..
Ghost touch on notch
Ghost touch issue on pocophone especially on the notch area is making me sick. Is it a hardware or a software issue? Ive tried all the suggested troubleshooting methods like disabling the 3fingers slide screenshot but the problem is still evident.
Screen, audio issues
I have read a similar problem of mine on some forums. When using the phone while holding it, the screen works okay (except for some touch delay sometimes on the lower part of the screen). But what agitates me the most is that whenever I lay my phone flat on a soft surface (Bed is the worst), the phone does not respond at all to my touches (except when I heavily, and i mean heavily tap it)
Some say this is a hardware issue, but I was like what? If the screen works fine when held, how come it's a hardware issue? I think the problem is that Xiaomi tied the screen response/touch with the gyro/accelerometer in the software (MIUI 10.2.3.0).
As for the audio, why bother creating a stereo setup if the other one is just a small earpiece? Also the audio channels are also separate, meaning, whenever you play a stereo audio file (with separate instruments per channel), you can only hear one side clearly. Fortunately, there is a fix, its by turning on the mono audio on accessibility settings, but UNFORTUNATELY, this also affects the output on headphones
I hope Xiaomi fixes this soon!
I have not read about this issue with anyone but since the last update I have this strange problem, when ever i go from First space to Second space, the phone freezes and reboots after a few seconds, sometimes it works but sometimes it freezes completely. Secondly FB and other FB related logins dont work.

Bought this phone around 10 months ago, never had any issues except number 6.
I NEVER had 4G+ on my Pocophone in my region (thailand, Truemove carrier), i think this is due to the Pocophone only supporting CA(4G+) on bands 3+40 or 40+40/3+3 (i think), my carrier uses B1+B3+B8 or any of that in 2CA so yeah, pocophone's CA(4G+) capablity is extremely limited due to it only being able to do CA in very limited bands (it will do CA fine with indian carriers i heard)
About number 1, I charge my phone overnight anyways so I am not in a hurry and when i wake up it will always be at 100% anyways. I also sometimes charge it outside of my home with my QC3.0 powerbank, and yes since I am in thailand the heat does affect me and it slows charging down to around 12-16 watts instead of full 18 watts, but really charging is a non issue
No touch issues on my unit aswell, had a great experience from the start of using this phone in terms of touch, guess i got lucky or the earlier pocophone models (9/2018,10/2018) had higher quality digitizers, I also heard problems about screen bleeding which I think you didn't mention specifcally , my screen has a VERY minor bleed around the bottom left corner of the screen
One display issue which I think not alot of users face but I do, is image retention. I experienced this myself when looking at something static for a long time with this brightness (70%-85%), it's noticeable in the "dark grey" kind of screens which is the default dark mode setting in Pixel Experience (the rom that I've been using for 7 months now, don't really like how menus are placed in MIUI, or does that just have to do with me using pixel experience for so long), the image retention is not like some extreme burn-in you see on amoled displays, just a very hard to see but "it's there" kind of thing. The image retention will usually solve itself if you leave your phone's screen off for a decent amount of time (image retention =/= burn-in) and this can happen with any brightness setting i found out, i once left the phone's screen on for like 24+ hours mirroring the screen to my pc with the minimum brightness (i see the screen on my pc anyways so no point in leaving the screen on anything but minimum brightness) and yes it did have image retention once i was done using it after 24+ hours, i turned the brightness up and instantly saw retention in the screen of static menu elements.
Of course that's a bit extreme of a use case, not many people are gonna leave a phone screen on for 24+ hours, but yes it can happen lol
Headphone/audio issues: never experienced bad audio in my pocophone F1 when listening to music (I use PowerAmp and it's high-res setting of 24bit/96KHz) it sounds amazing from this phone, but when playing games the audio is definitely sub-par compared to phones I had before.
Another problem I have is random freezes with MIUI, I solved this by using pixel experience and i really love this rom so this is a non-issue for me since I don't see myself returning to MIUI until MIUI 11 comes out or something like that.
1. SLOW CHARGING
true and frustrating
2. Audio Issues
didn't face it
3. Speakerphone Loudness
it's just a software thing, using any aosp based rom or custom kernel solves it
4.Touch Screen Issues
didn't face it
5. Auto Rotation
what?

Tab S7 - Touch issues while gaming, among others

Hi there! I just got a Tab S7 (the "basic" LCD model. not the plus). I update to Android 11, factory resetted it, debloated like crazy with ADB. I'm coming from a Tab S4 that had the exact same debloat and optimizations steps.
I use this tablet ONLY to play some games. I mostly play Rules Of Survival.
Well, I'm really disappointed. The game still lags with the same graphical settings I was using on the tab S4. I was expecting to get a decent amount of free ram after debloating it but it's not that better if compared with the S4. Don't get me wrong, the game runs smoother than on the S4, but from a Snapdragon 865+ I was expecting a lot more. The super crowded scenes now are pretty playable, but it still hangs a bit quite often. I have tested it with different internet connections, same results. Lowering the graphis did not help on the S4 and it does not help on the S7.
A weird issue is related to the touch screen sensitivity. It's usually pretty good but sometimes when I have to aim precisesly with my right thumb, the whole movement of the crosshair feels super slow and inaccurate.
You know what's strage? I have tested the same game on my OnePlus Nord and I had no issues at all. A friend of mine on the latest and crappiest iPad has a bettere gaming experience than mine, for half the price.
Any hint before returning it?
I'm having some strange issues with my Galaxy Tab S7+ as well, mostly touch-related. But in overall, the tablet's performance is really disappointing. I was expecting much more from this SD865-based tablet compared to my previous one, Pixel C.
Taps are not being registered accurately. Sometimes it gets registered prematurely (before my finger actually landed), and in other cases late or not registered at all.
From time to time, the tablet would suddenly lose responsiveness, dropping or delaying a good amount of touches, that even holds and drags may break into several separate taps. In rare cases, the tablet would stop responding to touches and generates a few taps on its own at the edge of the screen (the taps are generated at one particular spot and the spot is random, but it tends to be near the navbar if brought up).
As I mostly play rhythm games in which every touch matters, such issues can be devastating. The issue is becoming more frequent since Android 11 update, with average frame rate being much worse compared to Android 10. It seems these touch-related issues become more apparent when the games start to stutter (lower frame rate).
I suspect the issue might have something to do with System UI. On Android 10, when the touch issue happens, it affects everything as I can also reproduce the ongoing issue inside Multi-Touch Test app. On Android 11, things become a bit different, as when the touch issue starts to happen in a game, it seems to affect only that game and the System UI (that it takes about 2-3 swipes just to bring out the navbar), and the impact to other apps, including Multi-Touch Test, is less than before.
I don't know what might be contributing to the touch-related issues. But the tablet's stock firmware is often seen spamming logcat at an incredible rate implying a huge amount of processing is going on behind the scenes, and from the looks of it, a good amount of the logs were audio effect related so it's possible that certain audio enhancements might be very demanding.
EDIT: I also suspected Game Optimization Service might be involved in this. However, that service is part of the core system components, with related code inside system_server, that it's not possible to disable it completely. Although I've taken out the apks systemlessly through Magisk modules (root), it only made sure the service would never be able to launch again, yet its usual routines (scanning apps and detect whether the app is a game) continues in the background, which is done by system_server on behalf of GOS.
PS: It appears Samsung is indeed not happy with people disabling these services, that they're going great lengths to deter people from doing so.

I have deeply read thru your thread this morning. This is ways beyond disappointing. I have ordered and iPad air 4. But guess what? I cannot transfer my rules of survival account from Android to iOS. I will have to return that as well.
The only tablet with at least 6gb of ram available is the Lenovo something pro blabla but it spots a lower Snapdragon with a higher price tag than the galaxy S7.
I will have to stick my galaxy Tab S4 still for a while. I have debloated it like crazy (I just did not remove the game crap system). It will be still kind of bearable for some more time.
Any hint on some alternative android tablets?

If it's not about 120Hz display I think some other tablets, including older generation ones, might be good choices.
It's just that I don't think I'll ever pick another Samsung product anymore thanks to the GOS fiasco (app/service apks that would be automatically re-enabled by watchdogs placed deep inside system core processes by Samsung themselves).
As for going for an iPad... sadly, thanks to g00g13 & 4pp1€ intentionally placing barriers on doing cross-platform account transitions (at least losing access to paid/non-paid in-game currencies), it certainly won't be easy to switch.
(PS, nowadays it's not even easy to migrate on the same platform. Restoring a backup, such as those done using Titanium Backup or Migrate from an old device to a new one would not work and I still need to go through the usual transfer procedures from the old device, which varies among games).
Honestly, I don't think gamers are the main audience of Samsung devices, considering how much efforts they put on security stuffs such as Knox (actually, Knox was what led to Google introducing the Safety Net, and all the problems that stemmed from it). The tablet itself appears to be more focused on office/productivity works, as features like S-Pen, air gestures, DeX are more useful for those tasks than gaming.
EDIT: As for touch issues, if you're rooted this thread (from Essential Phone forum) might be interesting. CPU and GPU governors, as well as affinities, might play a role in the issues we're having. Turned out the stock kernel has a good amount of options to tweak via SmartPack Kernel Manager.
Here I don't have any problem. When you update it, you already enter on recovery mode, wipe data, cache and fix apps ? I get little issue with my battery after update, but I perform recovery mode and do wipes and fix apps, finally all problems I get is solved.

Question Xperia 1 mark III overheating

Hi,
I noticed my xperia 1 mark III is overheating even in normal use, especially in 120Hz mode. I hope sony will fix it as this device is really scalding.
It really burns!
This is the hottest device I ever had
Software version: 61.0.A.11.23
You're burning up your battery. Time is of the essence, resolve this issue fast. Shutdown the phone if it gets too hot!!!
Auto thermal shutdown may not protect the display/mobo especially if in hot ambient temperatures, in direct sunlight, or when charging.
Keep brightness at 50% or less.
Factory reset.
If that fails...
Find the apks or/and services causing to high drain.
If that fails, return the device.
The clock is ticking, Mr Wick tic-tok...
This is a serious problem. I took some photos and videos (4k and slowmotion) while standing in the sun. Outside temperature was about 23°C (73°F). After about 5 minutes I got an overheat message.
An app that I installed earlier registered an internal temperature of 40.5°c. It felt really hot to (while in a bumper case).
After I put the phone on a granite kitchen table it cooled down in about 10 minutes.

It is serious. Turn off the phone when it feels very warm before it goes over temperature.
Using a AMOLED display in direct sunlight is never a good plan. Limit it to seconds of use.
I have had this same problem since I got it to the point where I got an alert that some apps would be shutdown.
US Version purchased from Adoroma in the states : 61.0.A.11.23
Just another aggravating issue with this phone. Some are having boot loops of a sort also! What is wrong with these companies? Can they not produce a decent product anymore? 1300.00 and it's junk???????????
I am getting overheating as well, a little warm most of the time I use the phone.
Definitely was the 120hz display turned on. Less warm when the 60.
When using the wireless charger.
Anytime I use the cameras.
I am on the latest update as well.
Hm, very intriguing issue with $1300 flagship smartphone from such a respectable brand. I had similar problem with Xperia 1 II in several occasions. And... I think I know what's the problem (not bloody hot SD888 as you might suggest!). Please have a good look at dissasembly video:
Then compare it with $390 LG V60 ThinQ disassembly video from the same guy. Spot the difference! And it is - missing cooling system on Xperia 1 II / 1 III whereas LG V60 has quite big copper vapour chamber! Maybe that's why my LG V60 never gets really hot. So the question is ... WTF are you doing SONY?!
Well, I just sent back my first Pixel - 5A - for overheating. I have been watching the 1 iii and the 5 iii as a possible purchase...but I am turned off by the dedicated assistant button that might possibly be remappable... but for sure I will NOT buy either of these mark 3 phones if they overheat! Makes me sick just how badly most new phones are functioning.
Yeah same, it seems to turn off randomly when using the cameras and when 120HZ screen is on.

I think it's the case for warranty replacement or even return if possible. This is one of the reason why I don't buy expensive brand new phones parallel imported (not officially sold in my country). Just because it means no proper warranty, no service, no nothing.
My Xperia 1 III is getting extremely hot even when taking photos (only 2-3) then get message about hot temperature and apps shutting down.
I use Streamlabs mostly (sometimes Prism) to broadcast to YouTube, foundthe phone almost useless! Overheating in seconds from start of s stream! I'm using my old Samsung Note 10 again as Sony wasn't simply useful.
Now I found a solution to it (sorry solution is too big word)
- I've turned "object tracking" off in camera
- I've turned autofocus on in camera
- I've turned 120hz off
Today we had hot day here in UK (27 Celcius ) I did my tests.
Streamlabs at 1080p , 7000kbps , 30fps run outdoor for about an hour smoothly. Connected to charger started to overheat.
Not to mention that tethering makes it hot quickly (so with Samsung).
Prism at 1080p 60fps run smoothly for couple of minutes and then crashed.
Didn't connect the charger.
I use Streamlabs to transmit 5-6 hours of stream into YouTube using mobile network in most if the times and whilst driving (so changing stations constantly)
I found that using WiFi it doesn't get as hot.
Also charging makes it very hot - SONY advertised it as able to by powered directly by a charger without charging battery, how and where do I find that option?
Is it available using car charger with quick charge 3.0?
I like the phone , like the shape , size and feel to it. Camera is OK (I own Sony a6500 )
Hate the fact of poor selfie camera in such expensive phone (I do live streams using selfie cam too)
Right I've ordered a return of my phone and have 30 days to send it back what alternatives do I have? Really like the SONY if it wasn't overheating I'd love it. Is there a solution to it? Cooler anything?
The things I like about the phone are:
*shape and overall feel in hand
*Cameras are ok don't really see if they great quality or not will still use my a6500 camera.
*Like the fact that can use sd card
*Love finger print reader in power button and seperate camera button
*like the fact that there's no rounded edges - hate them in my Samsung Note
I blame my problems with overheating by poorly made apps not the phone itself and not sure changing the phone will change it.
What are the options should I consider? Samsung S21 Ultra ? iPhone 12,13?
I'm a SONY fan and had many if their phones and that's why I'm looking for a solution otherwise would send it back straight away...
Can anyone help me with my problem?
Many thanks
Bart
Unfortunately greedy sony didn't provide any cooling solution to mark 3... Check disassembly videos, there is no any cooling solution at all, like you will find in asus - small vapor chamber etc. Literally nothing!
They knew snap 888 is overheating. They must have tested this device before releasing it, isn't it?
But no, still didn't apply any cooling solution. And that's a big shame and huge problem of this device.
Not sure if qualcomm provide any updated drivers to assess this problem or not. Or if sony will try to fix it. So far they did nothing and still it overheats. Mine too and you are right by saying that on 3G/5G it is hotter than on wifi.
I wonder how they can market battery as capable and better for 3 years with such hot device. Temperature of course has huge negative impact on battery longevity.
Sad but true
I'm quite shocked! Thanks for the info about disassembly videos...
I'm thinking if getting a cooler which you attach to the body.
What I forgot to mention that cameras itself (the lenses) don't get that hot is the area under them and closer to the centre. So must be processor and lack of cooling system.
Not sure what to do...
We have a hot weather now so I will test it intensively (if I was a Sony tester I'd never allow for the phone to be released like this).
Heating problems is why I keep saying that for any SOC/CPU/GPU manufacturer to keep upping the speeds of these things is STUPID! I can virtually guarantee that from now on every new CPU produced by all OEM's is going to overheat! Have you ever walked into a data center, with hundreds of servers running? You have to wear ear protection because the roar of all the internal cooling fans is deafening!
So then "we" attempt to put similar CPU's inside a device the size of a small remote control WITHOUT a fan and wonder why it overheats? There are only so many ways to keep the phone(s) cool. Use them while frozen solid in a block of ice, or better yet, stop running so many CPU/GPU intensive apps all at the same time. It's simple thermodynamics at work here. The more you have running at the same time, the harder the SOC needs to work, the hotter it is going to run. Another solution, that is literally unacceptable to most people, is to code in a lowering of the speed of the SOC. If this needs to be done then it becomes very clear that building a new, faster SOC every year is STUPID!
One more thing... I've heard that Xperia 1III is capable of powering the phone directly without battery charging to lower the heat...Does anyone know how do I turn this future on?

This is applicable with the game enhancer. You can add some apps there and when you open it, you can enable HS power control. Also sony just release a new firmware that answer you with this issue.. you can check my video

Thanks a lot , tomorrow I will be testing - doing long live stream on YouTube using Streamlabs, I always keep my phone under charger as I drive HGV sometimes for 3-4hrs non stop so battery would die.
It also going to be hot day here in UK and having the phone close to windscreen won't help - I know I shouldn't complain about overheating in such circumstances but my phone overheats even when taking photos although I have a feeling that after last system update its looking better , also as I mentioned before switching off object tracking has improved how smooth camera works using Streamlabs and Prism.
I'm considering buying a cooler for my phone too.
I will post my report tomorrow of how it went.
Many thanks

I found the future now in Game Enhancer app, you can power it directly. Not sure how it will perform yet. Tomorrow will send my report.
I often run streaming app in the background and not sure if Game Enhancer will work that way. I run nav app (Sygic Truck).
Heat problem has gone down significantly for me after the latest update yesterday. Usually the phone got really warm even with me just browsing using Chrome or going through Facebook. Now even when playing ROK or Mobile Legends it doesn't get that warm.
