Hiding phone signal and VoLTE icons on status bar - Huawei Mate 20 Pro Questions & Answers

As you'd all know, we value the little space we have for other important notification icons in the status bar! Mainly due to the lack of psychical screen space from the notch design...
I have been searching high and low to find a solution to hide/relocate/modify these 2 icons which seem to be permanent? Has anyone had success with with this?
Methods I have tried, but have not succeeded ;
- SystemUI tuner app to hide status bar icons
- Made sure I have VoLTE turned off in mobile networks
- Unchecked the "Display in status bar" in *Settings>Notifications>Call Management>VoLTE calls*
Worth noting I've tried restarting the phone after each attempted method and the icons still remain. Also I'm currently on the .208 firmware, with Optus Australia.

I went through the same steps as you did, with the same disappointing results.
No can do.

I saw someone mentioned in another thread that there is a thread on XDA on removing notification icons by ADB.
I'm still trying to find it.

No bueno

I don't know if Huawei software engineers are somewhat disconnected from the hardware design team, but the notifications in general are absurdly broken on this phone. Combine absolute hijacking of 'notch space' with an AOD implementation that preschool children could improve using Roblox... I love this phone but I surrrrrrrrrrrrrrre wish we had full root and some spankin' hot romzez to throw at it.

Settings/Wireless & networks/ Mobile network/ VoLTE calls turn it to disable

I agree. Have your tried using system ui tuner to hide status bar icons? I hide all of them via immersive mode. But I believe you can also disable individual ones.

did anyone ever manage to get rid of the Volte icon in the status bar? Its only appeared on my P20 Pro since the EMUI update. I don't have Volte settings on my phone to disable. I have tried SystemUI Tuner and tried the ADB commands above and nothing works

Volte icon
Same here, just had the upgrade to my p20 pro and I can't disable or turn it off since the option doesn't exist for me.

It's the most annoying thing for me at the moment. I managed to remove some icons with System UI Tuner app but not the volte icon, the worst thing about it is it's not permanently there, it appears regularly depending on my signal level so it gives the impression a notification has arrived.
There must be a way of removing it with ADB or System UI Tuner app, it's just a matter of finding its given name on the system.

[Q] Have you heard of Widgetsoid2.x?

How many of you were aware of Widgetsoid2.x's ability to have notification power widgets (if properly configured) with which you can toggle directly from the notification area (like under CM6.1/CM7) without having to toggle the widgets from a separate popup it launches first (like under Power Control Plus, Extended Controls, others)?
Screenshot taken using Widgetsoid2.x on Ginger-Tazz-Sense b3.
Not really a fan of the coloration of the notification icons. I like the widget controls however.

Me neither, for the notification area I had to color the icons black to be able to see them well (the background doesn't change no matter what in the notification area it seems) and set them to highlighted all the time (unless that was one of the other apps I tried). It definitely would be nice if the icons were more easily customizable - other apps were able to change the color of individual icons, and individual "active" indicators at the bottom.
The one-click notification control was definitely the winning factor for me.
yup, I liked the notification widget when I wasnt using CM7....it comes in handy
Other downfall is WiFi by and god just open the settings. Unless I'm mistaken.

Yeah, that would definitely be a bummer. I would probably use a combination of Widgetsoid2.x and another app in order to provide 1-click for WIFI in that situation.
I'm using Ginger-Tazz-Sense (beta 3 but beta 7 is out now) and this newer Sense interface already has some built-in toggles in the notification/status area, so I don't bother using Widgetsoid2.x for WIFI and some other things.
Check out my screenshot (fixed, ImageShack seems to have a problem with a period in the picture filename I had previously) in my first post ^ to see the second tab at the bottom of the status area, that's where the new Sense's built-in toggles are. Sure you have to make one more click to select that tab but it's still fast.
Yeah I am running beta 5 right now having the minor white screen but if i keep enough ram open i have no issue

If you have any trouble configuring it the way you think it should work shoot me a message.
In general, it appears you have to keep the option checkmarked at first to open notification widgets as a separate popup which you then click on the widget you want from there. After that first time, THEN you can uncheck the open as popup option and it appears to work just fine from the notification/status area after that.
ye, i have never heard of this before,
but it looks clean and clear in a glance

[Q] Atrix Notificationscreen toggles

Hi all,
I just recently got the atrix 4g. I used to have a samsung captivate prior to this. On the captivate there were toggles for wifi, gps, vibrate, etc on the pulldown notification screen so you could pull down the notification bar even while u were in an app and switch off or on the wifi for example. Atrix unfortunately does not offer that functionality . I'm using the ninja rom on the atrix with faux's kernel. I tried using Widgetsoid 2.x - it puts the toggles on the notification bar but they don't work. So those toggles are just taking up space on the notification bar. Is there any other mods or apps that we can use to have the toggles on the notification bar? Thank you in advance...
Try Widgetsoid 2.x in the market. This app allows you to make toggle widgets with the option to put them in the notification bar, or JUST the notification bar. It has many toggles, and is free. Make sure to look for the notification option thoroughly. Happy toggling!

He already said he tried that
CM7 comes with customizable notification toggles built in, though!
Search for "Notification Toggle". Works very well, though slightly differently from cm7's. It will put up a bar under the notification pane, but you'll tap it and a small window will pop up with all your options. Once selected, it will disappear and go back to whatever app you were using.
Thanks guys for all your responses... I'm playing around with widgetsoid still... Will report how it works out... It also does open a pop up window with all the options specified... I'm trying to figure out if it will work without opening a pop up window...

+1 for this. i thought it looked so cool on the x10 when i was playing with it. atrix being my first Android device and i couldn't find anything ab the toggles in notification pull down menu for the atrix. will try widgetsoid and see...
Guys, I tried widgetsoid and it opened the pop up... I also tried notification toggle which also opened the pop up... There seems to be no options available at this time where you can just toggle between stuff just from the notification bar (unless you're using cm7 like the other user mentioned above)... I'm not a developer myself so I'm hoping someone will come up with that option...
Now I also tried extended controls which also opens the pop up but out of the three, ex controls is most pleasing to your eyes... (that's just my opinion) try it out you may like it... It is a paid application... I don't know if I'm allowed to post the apks for paid Apps here or not... I'll go and check the forum rules and if it's allowed I'll post it here

I was getting 2 or more FCs when trying to create a Extended Controls widget, that I would wait out, till it would finally take... been that way since the Gingebread update... apparently a known issue with this app, according to Developer's website.
Changed to WidgetSoid tonight.. like it a lot better, snappier, no FCs... pretty much same icons & can create same layouts.

About the NOTCH

Is there any way we can actually disable the notch, I mean literally make it black and move the status bar below the notch , just like on normal smartphones?. Will that be possible with some mod in the future,or does such a thing already exist?
That is a nice solution but they would have to write code to disable the touch completely in that area and a lot of work will be involved in case an app tries to fill that area. Xiaomi doesn't likes to work, and they create more bugs with every fixes. I am not even mentioning how odd that will look, Xiaomi doesn't likes to work but they do care about the design and want their devices to be elegant. I have never never seen such a great looking cheap casing ever in my life, even Samsung can't achieve that.

I still don't see what the big deal is. You can see the icons if you slide down the notification bar. It's a little inconvenient but not at all frustrating or unacceptable. Sure they can fix that to some extent in the future through an update but it definitely is not a deal breaker. Using an IOS device for an Android User, That's Frustrating.

Raised my voice to POCO on status bar thing,
https://twitter.com/jaimani/status/1036965116053311493?s=20
Let's see what they do.
No notification on status bar due to the notch is realy frustrating. Hardly 4 days of usage, I miss those notification icons on status bar. Its like they skipped step 1 for achieving god_knows_what. I have literally started hating the phone in 4 days itself. Trust me, its beyond frustrating. Its like you went back to Symbian OS -_-. How can they miss out on such a basic and addictive utility?!

Probably for the same reason they waste time to badly redesign Android's user interface instead of just using the standard Google layout.
At that point, that's the only reason I'm not buying this phone, until we see AOSP ports.
Would have been a no brainer if it was shipped with Android One instead of MIUI.
Well according to me, this might be the best way to overcome the notification icons problem.

I have exactly the same query. On checking several posts on internet, i have realized that 'Fullscreen' doesn't imply 'Include the notch' for notched phones. Am i wrong?
If there's only a way to include notch in all apps(playing video and games too) rather than excluding it. Seems like inclusion of notch as a part of screen for the complete UI in Poco would give a much better experience.

Chinese ROM: no notification icons on status bar , no Google match

Hi all, I've recently bought a Reno 10x in China and I've several issues with that color OS : ROM PCCM00_11_A 18_96c98aa7
1) no notification icons on the status bar ; I've tried everything , but it seems that in my ROM there isn't the sub menu "notification prompt mode"
also I've no numbers notification on the dot on the app icon.
Basically it impossible for me to see if I've have new message on WhatsApp for example, of course I've notification on the screen look menu , but since I use every day the fingerprint sensor I never see the screen look.
2) isn't possible to configure Google assistant and more over the phone is blocking the automatic voice match ( I've a ROM with BREENO as assistant) :-0
3) Whit Google maps is impossible tho share my location with my friends (color is apparently is blocking )
4) problems with exchange:
I had no app for mail by default so Installed Gmail : ok it's work , but calendar and tasks from exchange are not showing!! So it's impossible for me to work!
No way , it's a mess ....
Could someone help me ? Do I need to install a "real" global ROOM?
How can I do?
Many thanks !
I've got the same problem with the notifications. Someone a solution?

For the application, you must also give all permissions, autorun and notification settings. It starts to work not immediately, it was about 5-10 minutes for me, but after all the notifications come right away.
Did all of this, but still no icons on statusbar.

Hi, can you tell me more how to do the tweak on Oppo Reno so to get icon notifications on status bar? Like explain every step as I am quite "green" with that stuff... Thanks
At this point there is no way to get notifications on the status bar. I have the same problem and am trying to return the phone because I already wasted too much time trying to fix this along with all the other problems:
tl;dr; DO NOT buy the Chinese rom version!
- Notifications are all disabled by default. You have to enable them individually for every single app, and most apps have multiple notification types that each need to be separately enabled.
- The process for enabling notification for an app includes changing notification settings, power settings, startup settings, and locking the app in recents, for every single app.
- Only 5 apps can be enabled to receive notifications (startup options).
- Can't change the default SMS app, it will revert back when you receive a message.
- Can't change the default launcher without removing the coloros launcher through adb.
- Swipe gesture will not work if you do remove the default launcher.
- Nova launcher badge permission gets reset so you no longer see notifications.
- There is no way to flash the global rom.
How do people actually use this phone?
Hi, I see... For me besides the lack of icons on status bar the phone seems good as I don't plan to change launcher or rom. ( I know bit boring, but I've faced the same issue with Vivo)
But guys have have you heard of Xiaomi Mi 9 global version has the same problem with status bar icons and they came up with an app that's available on Play Store: Notch Test. And it worked well. I tested it myself. Can we do it with Oppo??? I mean can someone do such app for Oppo Reno?

This is common issue for phone selling in China.
If want China brand phone, must get global edition instead of China edition. This apply to Oppo, Vivo and Xiaomi. I not sure on Huawei, maybe also same.
Yes avoid oppo Chinese version
Awful app restriction
Does the global version work as normal with notifications?
Thinking about buying 5g version.

Even if there's only one icon, the constant jumping was driving me crazy. I learned to tolerate it, but I would get rid of the arrows in a blink of an eye if that was possible.
Yeah, a bit annoying. On Nokia phones running Pie those arrows are part of the icon, the both wifi and cellular.
I disable the % of battery to save a little space. This helps when the icons are nearly full on the right half.
Or you may adjust the display size like the discussion here:
