Rooting for Huawei P20 Lite - Huawei P20 Lite Questions & Answers

Is rooting a Huawei phone still possible, as they dont give out bootloader codes anymore?

I would be interested in the solution too...

I think its not good idea to try root before android pie relese...

pls help me...
What does it mean "pie release"?

Huawei closed codes generator, but it is still possible. DC Unlocker, read guide. Its generate unlock code but cost is about 4$. Pie release is next android with number 9. Now p20 lite has android 8 Oreo, next android is 9 Pie, next androit 10 on first letter R.

Root/Updates/Rebranding/Unbricking-Official FunkyHuawei Support Thread for Mate 9 Pro

This is the official FunkyHuawei support thread.
FunkyHuawei is a (mostly) paid service which allows you to do the following:
1. Install the latest system software, even before it's released by OTA.
2. Install beta/prerelease system software, without needing to be a beta tester.
3. Recover a bricked phone.
4. Rebranding / Change the region of your phone (China -> Europe, for example, to get Google and so on.)
5. Root your EMUI 8 phone, even with stock recovery (This feature is free)
Except for rooting, all of these features are supported even if you cannot unlock your phone's bootloader.
We are pleased to announce FHUnbrickFlashTool -- You can now repair any recent Huawei phone via fastboot, even if you cannot access eRecovery or boot the phone! Even if it doesn't show the Huawei logo, as long as you can get a fastboot connection to your computer, you can recover the phone! Google FHUnbrickFlashTool or check FunkyHuawei's reddit for details.
To find FunkyHuawei, please Google it. Or you can find a link to the service within the following XDA Portal article.
https://www.xda-developers.com/android-oreo-emui-6-huawei-mate-9/
In cooperation with XDA, FunkyHuawei is offering a free credit to Recognized Developers and Recognized Contributers on XDA.
Please PM me for more details.
We will continue posting in this thread with updates regarding new software versions and releases regarding this device.
We will also be monitoring it so we can help anyone who has issues.
For device-specific information, please see the next post.
Mate 9 Pro Device-Specific Information
The Mate 9 Pro now has a relatively mature community with many methods to do many things.
However, there are still some things only possible with FunkyHuawei, so it would be most useful for:
1. Installing updates on bootloader-locked devices, even if the update is not approved by Huawei for your device.
2. Rebranding bootloader-locked devices.
3. Restoring bricked devices.
Note that even though the Mate 10 Root tool is designed for the Mate 10, it works perfectly on the Mate 9 Pro running Android O betas.
This tool is FREE, and might be easier than installing TWRP and rooting that way.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How much does FunkyHuawei cost?
A: You need to buy credits on the FunkyHuawei website. The price per credit varies depending on the number of credits you buy. Different operations cost different amounts of credits. However, the Root feature of the Mate 10 tool is free, and as mentioned above, Recognized Developers/Contributors of XDA can ask for a free credit.
Q: My phone is bootloader locked, and FRP locked. My bootloader unlock code dosen't work. It won't boot. eRecovery doesn't work. Can you help?
A: Yes. With the Mate 10 this is now a common situation. Contact FunkyHuawei for help in this situation. We'll need to access your computer remotely and the procedure is a little bit complicated, but the phone can be unbricked.
Q: I can't get my bootloader unlock code/don't want to unlock my bootloader, but I want to change my phone to something other than Chinese. Can you help?
A: Yes. Our new FunkyHuawei Rebrand Tool works on ALL recent Huawei phones, to rebrand them to another region even when the bootloader is locked.
Q: I'm not seeing the latest version listed on FunkyHuawei or elsewhere as an OTA. Why not?
A: Huawei has a very odd and unpredictable way of rolling out OTA updates. You can use FunkyHuawei to install the new version immediately, or can wait for the update to be rolled out. It might be a month or more after release until the update reaches your device from Huawei directly. We have no idea why.
Q: Why isn't FunkyHuawei free?
A: Because many of FunkyHuawei's features cost FunkyHuawei money to provide. Features that don't cost FunkyHuawei money to provide, like rooting the Mate 10 or our TWRP build for Mate 9/Oreo, for example, are generally made available for free. There are also bills to pay, kids to put through school, and so on.
Q: I noticed FunkyHuawei in an XDA Portal article!
A: FunkyHuawei loves XDA, and is cooperating with them as much as possible. Recognized Developers and Contributors on the XDA forums are welcome to claim a free credit from FunkyHuawei as well.
Q: I have a different question.
A: This is what this thread is for! Post away!

We have added Android O builds for nearly all of the Mate 9 Pro variants, including Porsche, European, Asia, Middle East.
Make sure you check FunkyHuawei's reddit for the instructions to use HiSuite to install Android O on an Android N phone.

Android 8 with EMUI 8 for P9 & P9 Plus

Huawei P9 & P9 Plus will get Android Oreo with EMUI 8.
yes, perfect!!
good news, thx bro.

Let's hope for this
I have asked Huawei for the P9 Plus Oreo update, this is a translation of what they responded. Original message was in Dutch since I am from Belgium. I contacted my local Huawei support.
"We understand that you would love to have Android 8.0 on your device. On this moment, we do not have an exact date on when Android 8.0 will be available for your device, but it is to be expected on Q1 of 2018. Please be convinced that we are working to get all the devices with the required specs on the best software-update version, so most likely for your device as well. But when this is happening is still to be confirmed. We are currently working on the development for Android 8.0 update for the Mate 9, Mate 9 Pro, P10 and P10 Plus. When you will receive the update will also depent from your provider. Some provider tweak the update right before they sent it OTA to their customers. Please check for an OTA update regularly to see if there is an update available via: Settings - System update - Check for system updates."
I have a post dedicated to future updates. Check it out! https://forum.xda-developers.com/p9-plus/how-to/talk-future-updates-huawei-p9-plus-t3625111

You must contact EMUI directly & not the local Huawei Service, everytime local Huawei Service don't have any informations. EMUI 8 IS CONFIRMED FOR P9 PLUS, you can find also an article from xda site.
This is awesome, still a great phone that works stellar for me. And now the security patches have been ticking in lately so Huawei do start to look like the top notch they wants to be
This means that we are going to have project treble?

How can I downgrade my Android 8.0 to 7.0? (Mate 10 lite)

Hey,
Altough I bet there are hunderds of threads like this, I decided to create another one
So because I have my mate 10 lite around 2 years (a bit less), I would like to get an upgrade. Sadly I won't get Android Pie officially, so I'd like to install a custom ROM.
To do that I need an unlocked bootloader which dc-unlocker is only able to do below Android 8.0.
So I would have to downgrade my Android 8.0 (Btw, EMUI is also 8.0) to Nougat 7.0.
The method through HiSuite didn't worked since it just says "Newest Developer Version installed", but nothing with "Switch to other versions".
Also through Firmeware Finder (Playstore App) it doesn't show me the option "In-App Proxy", so I guess it doesn't work either with that.
Is there another way to do, if so I would really appreciate any help
Thanks in advance
My Mate 8 also keeps on Android 8.0, without any update to Android Pie officially.
If the official utility, HiSuite, which is developed by Huawei doesn't work, we maybe have no way to downgrade the system software on Mate 10 or Mate 8.

It all depends on your current build version. If I remember correctly the ability to use DC was patched in most custs in May or June. So if your security date is prior to May you can still use DC. If not you're out of luck. You can use testpoint to flash board software and then get unlock code through there, but it requires you to remove the back of your phone which will break IP rating and void warranty (If it's still under warranty)

Hi
I have the same device and tried everything with no luck, the device comes with a locked bootloader, unless someone can unlock it I guess there's no way to install a custom ROM.
There's the Googlefier app built by @Bender007 but didn't work for me on EMUI 10.1.1.132.
I had a thought to flash Magisk into the firmware and load it on USB but I have no idea what file to inject Magisk in, maybe that could work, anyone have an idea how to do it?
regards.
Look this tutorial: https://androidphoria.com/tutoriales/instalar-google-play-huawei-p40-lite
Also can see on:
There is another one, that seems OK:
Hey,
so here's what I found so far:
if phone was released before 2020 April (untill March) --> Googlefier method will work, else, it won't.
P40 LITE 5G was released in 2020 April shipping with 10.1.1 ROM, there is no 10.0 version - the end.
P40 LITE 5G ships with Kirin 820,whereas,
all other P40 variants ship with Kirin 810.
Kirin 810 has 10.0 ROM, whereas, Kirin 820 doesn't ( so P40 Lite has 10.0 ROM, P40 Lite 5G hasn't)
The only phone that has 10.0. stock ROM with Kirin 820 is Honor 30S
So there is ONE stock 10.0 ROM that runs on Kirin 820 (f yeaaaah)
(Also don't confuse it with Kirin 820E)
OK, so what?
Here are some questions to discuss:
Is it possible to flash Honor 30S stock ROM on P40 Lite 5G to boot into a 10.0 ROM to use Googlefier and to continue upgrading using OTA?
Android will think it's a Honor device ( I guess )...
Using ADB it might be possible to disable all Honor specific stuff for "user 0" (this wouldn't break OTA update)
With a basic ApkExtractor it might be possible to simply install EMUI stuff (most of it) like HMS core and such, so theoretically (if all dependencies can be met - smtg I don't know) you can login with Huawei ID and such .- if uou care at all
Aaand another (possibly stupid) question:
Would it be possible to Copy-Paste a sort of a "custom P40 Lite 5G" ROM using the Honor 30S kernel only, deleting all Honor system apps, injecting EMUI system apps and packaging a flashable ROM? I ask this from complete ignorance, I don't know if it's possible or not. Like, does EMUI have some sort of a certificate or signature that it can be packaged (or compiled) only by Huawei? No idea, but there's my 2 cents.

Honor 7a (AUM L29) custom ROM: worth/possible?

I've received an Honor 7a (2GB/16GB and Android 8 / EMUI 8) - perfectly working, still very good battery.
I'd started searching for a custom ROM and tried to follow this tutorial but before adventuring and giving a phone number to Huawei to get an unlock code (provided they still give them away in 2022 for this phone), I'd like to understand if there are recent custom Android ROMs for this phone, I was looking for a something based on AOSP 11/12 but I could not find any.
Thanks for any suggestions / ideas.
EDIT: Huawei sold the Honor brand in 2020 (press release)
To complement (and partly answer) my own question, I've found on the PostmarketOS wiki that Huawei stopped releasing unlock codes for this device:
Bootloader - postmarketOS
wiki.postmarketos.org
So, it looks like it's quite difficult to hack this device but I'm open to any suggestion or experience.
