Hi everybody. Now that I have rooted my mini I could install Barnacle wifi tethering for connecting to my laptop. But after long trials I am still not able to connect my phone with my laptop.
Can anybody with prior experience help me in this regard
For wired tethering I use Easytether which works great.
I havent tryed yet, but try setting the WLAN interface to "tiwlan0" and/or try skipping wpa_supplicant

Wonderful. It is connected with your suggestions. Many thanks.

Thanks, I also got this to work. What I wonder now is if it is possible to have security for this tether. When we choose skip wpa_supplicant then the security is disabled and it is an open network. When traveling and visiting public places I would be somewhat uncomfortable to have this open network. Barnacle does provide the WEP security option, but in order for this app to work with the x10 mini we need to choose skip wpa_supplicant which opens up the network to all. Any ideas?
I had to change WAN-setting & disable security too to even find the WiFi network.
However, when I connect it doesn't work. I see the in Barnacle "traffic"-pane that my computer sends requests when I try to load a webpage in the browser. But the down-traffic won't increase. Anyone know the next step in troubleshooting?
i left all the settings stock except turned on skip wpa supplicant. mine works great i ran ping- t all night and only lost 15 packs 0% loss, which is less loss than my friends cable internet.
when i first got it working i was using a mix of settings and i had to hit associate every 5 min or my laptop would stop having access to the internet but still remain connected to the network. so i just reinstalled it and it works great now.
This feature is one of the main reason why i bought an android device.
Edit:
after a few more days of pissing about with barnacle i realized that it cuts out when ever the phone is not being charged and falls a sleep and as long as i keep the phone awake its fine. the solution i came to was to open music player and play a song with the volume off and that keeps the phone from going into sleep mode. i know there's supposed to be a setting to stop wifi from turning off while in sleep but i have a branded rom and it doesn't appear i have the option. hope this helps someone.
There are two versions out there, 0.4.2 and 0.5.0. What version do you guys run?
anyone share the settings for barnacle wifi tethering. Its not working in my rooted x10 mini.

You can disable wifi sleeping on Settings -> Wireless controls -> Wi-fi settings. Push menu button and choose 'Advance'

I have the exact same problem and have tried everything listed here Anyone find a solution??
It works for me now using Barnacle Wifi Tether 0.6.7 and a SE X10 mini 2.1. Had the same problem before. Now my settings are:
Wireless Encryption: Wep Enabled (with hex password code)
Channel: 6
"Skip wpa_supplicant" - unchecked
Wan: tiwlan0
Hi all.
BarnacleWifi worked fine for two weeks but until I setup new android vertion 2.1.1.A.0.6 he doesn't.
Anyone try it with this one ?
Regards,
Devilo.
Edit: I can see the network on windows7 but when I try to connect, it freeze on "Identification" and I never have ip adress
DHCP doesn't work.
Same here :-(.
It finaly works on my mini with 2.1.1.A.0.6 firmware.
On MiniCM-1.0.0-Alpha2, Froyo Cyanogen 6.1 port for the mini "Rom"
Dont forget skip WPA supplicant.
Regards
Devilo.
On X10 mini Barnacle works without skip wpa suplicant! After a few trys and som Observation I found the Problem. Every baconinginterval the adhoc Network have a other MAC. I try to set a fix BSSID in Barnacle but now i can't find the Network so i undo it.
After some Trys i found a workaround:
1. Start Barnacle
2. Press Associate
3. Try to connect with your Computer
4. After entering password, your Computer try to connect, press 1 time again Associate
My Settings are:
WEP Encyrpting: Enabled
Skip wpa_supplicant: Disabled
Auto Associate: Disabled
WAN: rmnet0
still not conneting
It's still not working on my x10mp 2.1.1.A.0.6 firmware. My PC (Debian or Win7 have the same problem) still doesn't connect.
Barnacle on phone is showing no errors. PC is finding the wireless network but can't connect. Looks like it does not get an answer from phone (no IP address assigned).
I surely have tried all the advices from this forum and any google search gave me.
Same problem here guys - this was the reason for rooting my x10 mini

same here..
And I haven't found any solutions yet ... thankful for any suggestions ...

Kick for this thread, looking for a solution...
I have an mpman mp824 tablet (same as Coby Kyros MID8125), preloaded with Android 2.3.3. I want to use a VPN, but when I go to the Settings - Wireless and Networks screen, there is no VPN setup item as I would expect. I'm not an expert, but I assume this may be because a) the VPN applet is there somewhere, but has not started, or b) it is not there for some reason.
Can anyone help, plus is there a way I can overcome this? I have tried the supplier, but they are not replying
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Try these steps. It will surely help you!
1-Tap the ‘Menu’ button on your smartphone to open the resulting window.
2-Open the ‘Wireless and Network Settings’ window as you enter the new window and tap the concerned icon.
3-You will notice the option for ‘VPN Settings‘ along with many other options depending on the interface of the respective android vpn phone.
4-After tapping the VPN settings option, you will get the choice to connect to one of the many protocols available. From these, choose ‘Add PPTP VPN’.
5-In the next window, you will be asked to set VPN Name, VPN Server, Enable encryption, and DNS search domains, depending on your handheld devices.
6-Provide VPN Name and other information accordingly, click OK to complete the VPN configuration.
7-Navigate back to the VPN listings window and tap the VPN network that you have created just now to establish the connection.
8-The connection will be notified by a key icon in the notification area of the smartphone.
9-To disconnect the VPN, all you need is to move to the location of the connection and tap the current VPN connection.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 (Mini) with Jelly Bean 4.1.2. I recently bought iPad 4 (Wifi only) and decided to try to do some tethering with my phone. I entered the "Tethering and portable hotspots" submenu and paired up successfully with the iPad. However, I couldn't access the Internet with the iPad even though the connection to my S3 was okey. Everything just seemed to be loading and loading, and Chrome said something about DNS servers. I gave up and tried to Bluetooth-route. Again I was successful in connecting the two devices with the link symbol appearing in the upper left of the iPad's screen. Yet again the Internet did not work.
I should mention that I live in a country where there's no tethering regulation so I can just use the default tethering settings. I did think about if using Avast, power saving mode or anything other affected the tethering process, but after turning Avast and power saving mode off, nothing happened. I also double-checked that I could access Internet via my phone. I also double checked that I had my mobile data on.
There isn't any setting in S3's "Tethering and portable hotspots" submenu that I could try to change (I've tried tethering with and without a password). I can do something about hotspot Wifi-connection from the iPad (according to the manual):
Adjust the settings for connecting to a Wi-Fi network: Tap next to a network. You can set an HTTP proxy, define static network settings, turn on BootP, or renew the settings provided by a DHCP server.

However, I cannot do anything if I try to create a hotspot using Bluetooth.
I would appreciate help immensely!
On the tethering section, and since you only doing it for an ipad, go to configure the access point and tap advanced settings. Try changing the broadcast channels from auto to 10.
I work on a technical support desk and it seems that Ipads are very very fussy on lower channels, i am unable to test this as i don't own an Ipad but it may be worth a shot.

Thank you for this suggestion. Unfortunately it did not work. I also tried channels 4 and 11 instead of Auto without success.

I asked on my friends to test this he has an s3 and an ipad mini, he doesnt use the stock tether. But he said clockwork mod tether works perfectly well on his. I believe it is free from the play store. Perhaps give that a try.

I just wanted to let you guys know that I have solved the issue. The trick was to add my provider's internet information (server, port) to iPad's settings. This is weird as with my old phone, Samsung Bada, I just had to create a Wifi hotspot with a few clicks and that's it.

I first created the Wifi hotspot connection between SG3Mini and the iPad. In SG3Mini, I entered Settings -> More Settings -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names (APNs) -> *chose my provider's Internet/Wap settings* -> wrote down Proxy, Port, (User Name, Password)
Then in iPad, I entered the Wifi-settings, Tapped the > next to the SG3Mini's Hotspot connection and added the APN info in the HTTP Proxy settings. I originally tried to use the User Name and Password but it didn't work so I just used Proxy and Port. Then I tapped the "Renew" option.
After this, I could tether without problems.

How was he able to test clockwork mod tether with an ipad mini as this is a usb tether and my ipad mini doesn't have a usb port?
Team,
I would have thought that this was easy but the more I look into it, the more complicated it seems. Simply, I want to be able to stream from my Android device to a TV. Specifically, I wan't to be able to access my SkyGo account and stream it to a hotel TV. I bought the EZcast dongle and this seems to work it should but once you select it as the AP, of course, the main WiFi connection is lost and so is the stream. Is there another way of looking at this to achieve my goals or is it a lost cause?
Thanks

Once you are connected to the EZCast AP, in theory you should then via the device's settings menu be able to tell it to connect to the hotel wifi to restore your internet connectivity (and so be able to stream from the net again). From a quick look on the net you should be able to select the "wifi network" option in the EZCast app and then use that to make the connection onward (to bridge the EZCast wifi to the hotel one).
Alternatively you may be able to set things up by doing a direct browser connection to the EZCast via your web-browser of choice and the IP address of the device as displayed on the TV once you are connected to it (if it has a web interface - I don't have one here at hand to confirm).

Thanks for this. It's a few weeks since I gave up on the "dream" but your note has given me a shove to have another look.
I'll report back.

Did you check Google Chromecast key?
I don't know if it's compatible with the app you use but this could do the trick

any tips?
thxx for sharing
You will need to go into developer options (tap build number 5 times in the "about phone" section) and enable the "Mobile data always on" option.
hi,
i ve tried it, no luck :/
I'm using the VPN App "Speedify" fot that works great. G<ive it a try!
weird
had a firmware update this morning for fix network link, no changes :/
that has nothing to do with vpn related stuff
Unlock developer settings there you chsnge the settings
Speedify is not only VPN! It also combines Wifi + mobile date. That will solve your problem.
What's the version number of your mobile phone? You can try other WiFi。
