I want to share the battery problems are back again after upgrading to Oreo ROM(new bootstacks) with a new battery.
So battery life issue? Im so happy i did not update to oreo from B9 7.1.1
Wipe cache partiton?
also, Do the whole 0 to 100% thing to calibrate battery. install gsam and Akku app to see battery info, check for anomalies.
maybe this helps, maybe it does not.
when my battery is charged for 68% and i unplug it on 68%...1 minute later it sits on 69%.It charged 1% when not plugged in.Or when my phone boots on 53%,i unlock with pin and then it drops to 52% and is stuck on 52% for a long time.Weird.
I would support Pruikki about wiping cache partition and calibrating your battery. I had problems similar to yours and have solved them (hopefully) with both of the above.
My battery is the original one and the device is about/a little bit more than 2 years, currently on B03 Oreo. I am sure my battery is still OK but after recent OS upgrades it went mad. The phone will turn off sometimes at 51% battery, sometimes it will reach 100% in 40 minutes from almost empty, or I will see battery charging 1 percent up every few seconds. Or even the phone will turn off at 23% but will show more than 50% immediately when connected to the charger.
I'd try discharging the phone completely until it reaches zero but real zero. The last time it happened to me, the phone turned itself off at 17% claiming it was empty. I started it on and the battery showed 17% (not zero) and stayed at 17 for quite a while. However the first time the phone got loaded, like watching YouTube video in the browser, it turned off again on its own. This repeated a few times until I made sure that the battery was completely squeezed off and not only I couldn't start it but when connected to the charger it shows the left yellow bar and no percentage.
Then you need to connect it to the charger but not turn on and make sure you charge it to 100% while it is off. I'd keep it at 100% for a few minutes to make sure it really reached it. Then you start the phone and let it boot. It is recommended that you repeat this procedure again - discharge again to 0, charge to 100% un-powered, then start over - although once should be OK too. In my case, the phone does no longer turn off before reaching zero but I am yet to see how long this will last. I wiped off the cache partition too since it stores various data that may interfere with the settings, especially after software update.
This does not work,i also recommend you dont do this...this make the battery worst...i already tried.
its possible to charge to 100 but when you unplug it,it goes to 99 directly.
I also tried other bootstacks with other twrp version. And sometimes it shows other battery% when i did not plugged the charger
For me it works but I am stock. I'd sometimes charge it to 93-94% before 7am, will use it slightly throughout the day for Instagram, Whatsapp, some browsing, music listening on the way to and from work (1 hour at least total) with about 1-1.5 hours total SoT and around 8pm I'd still have some 15-8% when connected to the charger.
This is after wiping out the cache partition and doing 0-to-100% charging while off and no restart yet. Battery really goes 99-98% upon starting it upon the battery calibration process when the charger is off, still it works OK now. I noticed that after every restart phone memories the battery state prior to the restart and sometimes will turn off at this level long before zero. I don't say it will be the same for you, but this is how it does for me. I don't dare changing the original battery myself and will keep the phone for as long as it functions, even if I buy something else.
Nothing, really nothing even of the current flagships (apart from LG but there are loads of other issues there) offers dedicated second amp, fully rectangular screen at 2K (not the sh*tty FHD+), not to mention the amazing front facing stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos with extra internal settings (not just on and off button), and 3.5mm phone jack and not some mediocre adapters all at the same time. Sorry, but if ZTE offered the same device with bigger battery, improved camera and SD 855, it would have overtaken the sales of any so claimed flagships all around, even if it matched their prices. At least I would have gone for ZTE again...

I previously made a thread regarding low battery life.
After a week of use and more testing, here's what I gathered.
(Note: I have GPS, Bluetooth, Wifi always disabled, brightness lowest)
My phone will completely drain out in 6-7 hours.
I found the culprit: Cell Standby
1.) Cell Standby always uses the most battery, often 60%+.
2.) Phone Idle often follows with 30%+.
So, to verify my theory that the screen isn't the issue, I turned on airplane mode.
I proceeded to watch a 1 hour comedy, and battery life dropped from 60% to 50%.
This is lower battery usage than if it were sleeping with cellphone on.
I then noticed that my signal hasn't been good (provider sucks, no choice, all of em here sucks).
So, I placed my phone on, but asleep inside a locker for 2 hours (no signal).
When I took it out, it was very warm at 40+ C and battery life dropped about 20-30% per hour.
I've tried turning 3G off, turning always-connected off or downgrading 2g.
The result has always been the same. It still sucks bigtime.
It seems like Nexus One also has this problem, anyone notice similar problems?
I've googled and been told that this is "normal", because the phone increases power to secure a signal.
However, I've clearly owned phones and placed them in signal-less lockers prior to this, and trust me when I say most of them drop 5% per hour max.
20-30% per hour is horrible, and clearly the phone is overpowering its components.
There are some certain Radios you can flash to improve how your phone uses power to pick up a signal, Requires root access tho.
Can you please point me to those radios? I've already tried updating my radio to latest.
My phone is already rooted.
My battery is a joke and I have tried many different things. I always have to charge it by around 3pm everyday during week as It will almost die on way home.
I take it of charge at 7.30am by 9.30 it could be down to 86% and then it judt continues to drop by 3 It can be between 60 and 50% if lucky, by time i'm tenmins from my house I get 15% and warnings.
I use basically for txt, some net usage and sometimes playing a game 10 - 20 mins tops and or read ten mins of books.
I have all updates off only manual and screen down low etc - doing my head in!

Strange, I always have 3g on, and still play a lot with my hero (games and such)
Still it survives about 36 hours on 1 battery load. Without 3g it holds out for 72 hours.
Post #1 on the thread below seems to have a working solution (re-interpreted below)
It seems to be something to do with the battery stats and charging via usb through PC instead of via the mains.
You have to clear your battery data when your phone has really really low battery (this is probably the MOST IMPORTANT step) (you can do this through recovery mode in amonRa). Once the battery data is clear, switch back on (before plugging in) and drain the battery so that your phone switches off by itself (playing music loud and switching wifi, data connect etc, etc is suggested in the thread).
Once battery has died, plug in your phone WHILE it is STILL OFF, then when the battery shows green (will probably take longer to charge because this time it is getting a full charge), UNPLUG BEFORE you switch it on. and you should notice the significant difference. - Oh yeah make sure you switch off all those data connections and wifi and all those other things that you used to drain the battery - unless you use some of them of course
EXTRA TIP given on the thread: TIP!! Remeber when changing and flashing new roms to unplug the phone from charge *(i.e. unplug from your PC) (edit Bad4ss) * after you boot!
TO answer LennyUK's Q below ( and so that the next page doesn't start to quickly before this suggestion is read ) I think why it is suggested for the first boot after this process to be done while off is because it is already off because of the drain AND because it will get a clean full charge up for the first time after a battery data wipe. Because while it is on it will be depleting the battery even if it is in a small way - after that you can do it whichever way you want *nudge-nudge-wink-wink-say-no-more*

I don't see why the same thing cannot be achieved by charging with the phone on, just as long as you don't change between phone being on or off during the charge i.e. if you start charging with the phone on leave it like that the whole time and visa versa

Can you do this on non rooted phone? How do I get into recovery mode?
I think the analysis is flawed. I also think the stats information doesn't tell you everything. For example, yesterday I had 60% cell standby, 20% WiFi, 20% phone idle. Consumption was 45% in 24 hours.
Previous to yesterday, I had high battery consumption. So yesterday was a breakthrough but YMMV. I removed the PCSCII and the Mail app (I don't sync with Exchange and I don't sync with a PC as such - I don't run Windows). I also disabled auto task killer. I rebooted without being connected via USB to power or to PC. Suddenly power consumption became similar to Modaco ROMs.
Last night, I also disabled the setCPU application and rebooted. 6% battery consumption in 9 hours. 34% cell standby, 33% WiFi, 33% phone idle. Consumption was 45% in 24 hours.
how have you improved battery usage, ive tried resetting battery stats, draining battery, fully charging, using kimera 1.5 and with no wifi no bluetooth, not using phone in few hours it was down to 63% and in 10mins had dropped to 59%
i had similar battery problems but today i changed radio versions into a different one, now i get almost full signal all the time and battery usage is geatly increased (went down 2% in 4 hours as compared to 10%/hour)
so i suggest finding a radio that give you good reception

im on tmobile uk, changes radio from
63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26 to
63.18.55.06JU_6.35.08.29
made alot of diference
you should ty out diferent radios and find one that gives the best reception, it will be different for different providers and countries
also i did this...

i unplugged my phone from the charger after doing this at 6am, it had 100% charge
its now10:45 pm, i have 44%charge left...its crazy
before i used to run out of juice around 10 hours after i charged my phone, its not been almost 17 hous and i got 45% left
i seriously suggest doing this

I will use that radio too seeing as I too am on T-Mobile in the UK. When you say to use the link and suggest doing it, I take it you mean the "get to 10% -> get to recovery mode -> wipe battery info -> reboot and drain battery 'til off -> charge while off and the take off charger once charged and switch on..
'cos I tried that and still having problems - am using the new Villain 4.0 beta2, so maybe the radio change in combination to this is what will work - I'll try it tonight when I get home.
immya : many thanks i now hove phone back
flashed radio 63.18.55.06_6.35.05.31
and lost 1% over night
previously on LOST
radio 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26 lost 56% overnight
perhaps issue with 2.1 roms is the latest radio and not latest kernal
BTW using sensehero at moment as was trying 1.5 roms to get better battery, and that didnt work.
some one maybe sticky this info , if anymore find it a saviour. will report back after work, mayeven be able to use data syncing again
i am having a quite unusual problem with the battery on my TP. it is hard to explain but i will try my best to do so. While i was casually surfing the web while on the charger i noticed that my battery started to drain ( this is the more ordinary problem that has been posted on many threads ) but this new situation is. The indicator lights and meters within the TP indicate that the battery is charging yet it still drains. I tried turning it completely off and removing the battery and then putting it back in and charge the unit for one hour. After one hour it charged to 20% which is reasonable enough for normal use, so i turn it back on and continue to use the device again the TP still indicates that the battery is charging after listening to about 7 songs i get a very low battery indicator warning (at the same time the battery indicates its charging) there is NO overheating and when the battery reaches 0% it does not die the screen just goes off and i can turn it back on and still recieve the low battery warning but what i cannot do is use data or even turn the phone radio back on. I am on the NFS 1.05 ROM, any suggestions?

Try to get a charger with an output of at least 1 A. It could be that your charger is not powerful enough to compensate for the drainage. The other thing is that WM' battery indicator flat out sucks... it is like Windows file system when it is desperately trying to tell you how much time you have left before your task is done (2 minutes jumping to 15 seconds jumping to 54 minutes jumping to 2 seconds jumping to 3 days, etc)..
Flash to another rom and see if the behavior still remains.... I doubt NFS messed up that badly with power settings, but it is always worth giving it a shot.
yea i doubt its the rom either as i was having overheating/drainage problems on stock but it wasnt anything like this
So the original battery in my phone.. well... sucked. When I pulled the phone off the charger it would jump down to 93% no matter how long it was on the charger etc. Any attempt to bump charge was thwarted in the fact that I cant charge the phone when its off (it automatically turns on and boots into CWM). Wiping the battery stats when the battery read 100% in the OS would still result in the above.
So I ordered that 1600mah battery from Seidio. Ran the charge out of it yesterday and charged it to full during the evening/night. Wake up this morning, pull the charger out of the phone, and BOOM 100% power. Not 93%...
So was it my old battery that was bad or was there something wrong with how the phone saw its power rating?
From what I've seen with the phone, it drops down to 90% or so before it starts charging again, but it won't ever have the display show a battery decrease while plugged in.

Right but I can watch the meter go all the way to 100%... pull the plug and it goes down to 93% within seconds.
funny thing phone did the same thing...took it off the charger this morn and it dropped down to 95
I'm at 99% after about 2.5hrs of mostly idle usage. I've been just rebooting the phone with it on the charger in the morning, give it about 15-20 minutes and usually it'll stick at 100

All you are doing is semi-bumb charging it, which is fine if you really must have that extra 1hour of battery, but be warned, doing it constantly will damage your battery over time. that is the reason the phone has built in charging/decharge in the first place.
The reality is if your phone is sitting idle, that 5% wont matter at all once your phone attunes to your battery, and if your using the phone so heavily that your going dead long before the day is done (after attunement) then the 5% still wont matter !
i was having the same issues - 90% right after unplugging. had to charge the phone 3 times in ONE day and i never even touched the phone the whole day except to check the battery percentage.
brought it into verizon, they gave me a new battery and now it lasts me the entire day. when i pull the plug out now, it drops steadily like a normal battery should. i tried bump charging before i brought it in and it didn't help at all
The same thing has been happening to my dads Thunderbolt.
He charged it overnight, took it to work and was losing about 1% per minute without touching the phone. The only time it was touched was about 1 timer per hour to take down the battery percentage for his log.
He took it to the verizon store and they told him he should not expect anything longer than 4 hours of battery life without touching the phone..what kind of BS is that?

I'm having the exact opposite problem with the batteries--just ordered two of the 1600 Seidios that delivered yesterday and even after running pretty much down, fully charging overnite with the T-bolt powered down, drops to 95% immediately. Conversely, the OEM battery would stay at 100% for hours if the phone was idle (screen off / receiving any emails and SMS). Go figger.
There is a post in the Android Central forums on the 1600 battery compared to stock. After testing, they found that the two perform almost identically. Basically, it isn't worth replacing unless you go with the big HTC extended battery. Although having a spare isn't a bad idea. If only that battery door wasn't so tough to pry off when you need to change it...
nexus s had the same problem its nothing big though

Most of us probably won't have the phones long enough to see any possible damage. Starting off at a full 100% is a lot better than immediately dropping to 95 or so after pulling it off charger. It's kind of like the gas gauge in my truck. Stays full a while but once it moves off of full you can watch it drop. lol
Hi,
My phone goes to 99% charge without a hitch but wont go to 100%
At 99% battery my i got 4207mV
All i did was to follow the instructions on this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1198333&highlight=battery
Before that 100% is no problem and after that stuck with 99%
and one more thing my phone shows me messahe on lock screen that phone is fully charged unplug but when i see the battery its just 90%.
From 90% onwards i see unplug message.
I am using Alien#4 ROME and Atrix-GB-Kernel-0.1.7-ext4-sv Kernel
Any suggestions or i am just over thinning ?
Same thing continually happens to me. I've done all the "fixes" and suggestions..and it still does it. Sometimes it goes up to 100%..sometimes 95%. All's I ever do is reboot with the phone still plugged in and "usually" (not always), it boots up showing 100%. IMO there is something with GB that is causing it..cuz i've noticed it on every rom i've tried (Alien, Cherry, CM7 etc)..
=>
Same here. It won't charge past 89%, and it did the same in the past at 92/93 %. I fixed it with a hard reset, but don't feel like doing that again.
Sometimes when I disconnect the charger, the phone still acts as if the charger is plugged in. Only solution is to reboot.
I will try to reboot with the charger connected to ser if that fixed my battery metter. Thanks for sharing.

Another thing i've done (as per xploited's thread), is when phone is fully charged reboot the phone (while still being plugged in) and pop out the battery right away. The phone will reboot with a ? (looking for the battery)..then pop the battery back in and it will usually say 5%. Leave it charging until it reaches 10% (i've never gotten it to go higher)..at which point unplug and reboot your phone.
Just read this interesting tidbit from another thread:
"Recently i have tested "Battery left widget", a market app.
When i go in "Summary" and "History" and "Sensor usage" option, i see this :
Sensor is activ "all the time" since last "plug on wall".
Sensor is in use by "Android System"
I have test this :
Charge 100% (and calibrated with CMW wipe battery or "BatteryCallibration" app before), unplug, and REBOOT.
This manual reboot stop "Sensor" activated by recharg.
After this simple action, battery drain has disapeer, and "sensor" activity too
Battery drain is the same than Froyo, 1 day in suspend mode, 1 hour game, 1 hour web and 15% battery left. It's magic !
I think, System detect the wall plug, and activ "something" in system nether desactivated after unplug.
Reboot is the only way to stop this sensor, and baterry drain"
So basically..after fully charging your phone..reboot with it unplugged and it should eliminate some of the drain people are experiencing. Until a new version of GB comes out..I think we'll all have to deal with these weird battery issues.
same issue here with alien 4
it was all good i used to get a very impressive battery life. but after i put alien 4 ( before that i used first ken's release of GB ) the battery life is worse and it doesn't charge till 100% and the drain from from 98 to 90 is very quick compared to other drains in range of 10%
With the 1% mod your phone thinks that the battery is at 100% while at 95%... like 94% would be 90% so it would take a while to get to the full 100 because it doesn't want to overcharge the battery and damage it. Also don't worry about the 100% 4200mv is the normal capacity of the battery's cells aslong as it that or over its still fully charged
Sent from my MB860 using XDA App
As mentioned above, you're fine if you're at 4200mv. Ymmv because of battery. And the juice is calculated by software. No chip on the battery. If your mv are significantly under 4200 mv then you need to calibrate. If it's close or over, quit worrying and rebooting and just use it. Sometimes my phone flies through 90's but after that it settles down and everything is normal. If you keep trying reset battery stats your battery is not going to calibrate because you're not discharging enough for the software to figure out more accuracy with numbers it gives you.
I voided my warranty.
Without any thing doing battery is back to 100% charging
Yep, what the other posters wrote is right. To summarize:
1. If you are at 4200mv, stop worrying what % it shows, because you are at full charge.
2. Android software tries to keep the time when battery is @100% to a minimum, because fully charging and completely discharging on regular basis hurts the battery.
3. The battery meter is lying to you, and it's not such a bad thing, read the article -
http://phandroid.com/2010/12/25/you...is-lying-to-you-and-its-not-such-a-bad-thing/
I love u guys.

Hey Everyone,
I apologize if this is a repost. I know I read somewhere (I believe here) about a similar issue, but I couldn't find it in searching.
A little background - AT&T SGS2 running stock rom (2.3.4), rooted, using a custom kernel (2.6.35.6) I got off of here.
Anyway, my phone has been working great for months. All of a sudden, my battery indicator is completely wacky and innacurate. It seems to have started after I came back from a trip and had to put it in 'airplane mode' a few times.
The battery level indicator goes down very quickly, and is not a true indication of my phone's charge level. I noticed it a couple days ago (after we came back) where after about 6 hours, I was down to 40%. Normally after a full day's usage I am still at ~80% by the time I get home from work. Since my phone had been running for weeks without a reboot, I decided to reboot it, thinking maybe I had some overzealous background processes running. It came back online with the battery indicator at 8% (down from 40% a minute prior)! After about 30mins or so, it began to go up, and settled around 14%. It stayed at this level for hours, until I plugged it in when I went to bed.
The next morning, same thing, it would lose 1-2% every few minutes until it got down to <10%, where I would get a warning about a low battery level. But once it hit that mark, it would stay there for hours and my phone would work perfectly fine.
As I mentioend above, I thought I read a similar story where the recommendation was to turn the phone off, charge it up all the way, and then turn it back on after it was fully charged. I tried that last night, but my phone is down to 87% after only 2 hours of non-use.
I've made sure that UV/OC'ing was disabled, that no background apps are doing anything weird, etc. And it's not like my battery is really dying quickly - it's just that Android thinks it is. I've checked the level using multiple programs, and all report the same incorrect information.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix it? Thanks!
You have encountered two separate issues, one of which is widely documented (fuel gauge reaction to rebooting), one of which is unexpected but possible on UCKH7 (abnormal drain).
But it doesn't look like the battery is really draining that much quicker, only that it's showing that it is. For example, while it might take me only 3 hours to go from 100%-10%, I'll stay at 10% for hours.
It's like the battery is no longer calibrated properly.
Do you use Samsung original charger? If not, try. It should go away.
Take your battery out for a few minutes. The SG2 differs in that it uses a chip for battery calibration/stats. You need to cut power to it completely to reset it. Now, if it still does it afterward, either the battery is faulty, or the phone's ability to measure voltages is wonky.
Also, are you using the phone's Power Saving mode? Maybe the battery is dying but the phone is taking steps to make it last longer?

I used to never use my Samsung charger and never had issues. However, months of using my blackberry charger has rendered it now ineffective. The charger dongle was slightly smaller, and its continuous wiggling messed up my phone's power port slightly. It's a good thing that my Samsung charger still works.
When we were on vacation, I was using my wife's charger for her phone (T-Mobile G2x) so we didn't need to take two (seemingly) identical chargers with us. My understanding was that the pinout and voltage were all the same, so I didn't think it would matter. Maybe that had an impact?
Normally I use my Samsung charger, and have been since we got back.
I haven't tried removing the battery yet, since its in a hard shell case and was hoping I could resolve the issue without taking it apart. But I'll try that tonight.
Power saving mode is disabled. I've also disabled BT, Wi-Fi, GPS, and shut down every app. In the time since my first post (84%) and now, I'm down to 58%, and my phone has been sitting on my desk unused the entire time.
According to the built in battery monitor, Android OS accounts for 92% of battery usage, with Display at 3%, Cell Standby at 3% and Phone Idle at 2%.
As I mentioned above, I thought I read something about a 'trick' to reset the battery gauge by turning the phone off, charging it to 100%, unplugging it, and then turning it back on. Was I mistaken?
Thanks for the responses.
FYI - I just pulled the battery, let it sit for a minute, and plugged it back in.
Battery level went from 58% to 39% after it powered back on.
I'll try charging it again to see if it has any noticeable impact.
Oh, I did want to mention that I've been very religious when it comes to charging my phone properly and trying to "take care" of the battery. I never let it get below 20% (outside of recently due to the issue), I always charge it up to 100%, I never do quick "let me just charge it for 15 minutes to make a call" type charges, I always use a wall charger and not a car charger, etc.
Down to 38% during the time it took me to type this...

That to me sounds like you might have an app creating a wakelock and preventing it from going into deep sleep.

With the exception of high load immediately following a reset (which is why it goes funky on a low-battery reboot), it's basically impossible for the fuel gauge to go out of calibration. It's designed to continuously converge towards truth.
Check the raw battery voltage when it seems to be funny. If your voltage is consistently low, you might be experiencing a hardware failure (like maybe the battery's protection circuit is on its way out.)
After pulling the battery, putting it back in and recharging it, it seems to be working well now. Too early to say for sure, but I went the entire afternoon and evening (up until now) with some mild usage, and am only at 84%. So far so good!

The phone has a voltage drop which causes the drop from 58 to 39 when you reboot it. I'm not a fan of it either.
