Now that my Xperia Z Ultra is rooted I would like to change the DPI setting to match the functionality of my Nexus 7. Unfortunately I have never done this before and Google shows me several ways to do it. Maybe someone with a little bit more experience could point me to the best way to change the DPI and to which setting.
Thanks!

Changing the Dpi of the whole system is not really good. Some apps will not work very wall and some part of Sony app like contacts and others will show some display problem.
Best I know with stock ROM is to use Xposed framework and install per app setting (per app dpi). You need root but this way you can get tab UI application like dual screen on settings and tab UI for mail, gmail and etc... But for this you need to root your phone.

or, you could change the entire dpi, and set the relevant apps with xposed like contacts etc, the apps that you come across as wonky, set them back to default dpi size 320 i think.
Xposed is by far the more elegant solution. Plus there are lots of other models you can use to customise your Z Ultra

Agree. I changed the system DPI manually editing the build.prop, a let me tell you; chaos, chaos everywhere. Some UI elements were tiny, whilst other stuff crashed and wouldn't work. That was when I took sight on the mighty Xposed, who lets you take control over the these delicate details yourself. I strongly recommend Xposed.

I finally find back my two volume settings for notification & call thanks to this app !
Any idea to get the different method to stop the alarm ? On my previous gNote, I was able to shake the phone to stop the alarm (now it's a small button in the middle of the screen Hard to stop it ^^)

is there aa module like the navbar extender that extends the navbar without having to click/swipe etc?
edit: Gravity module does all this and more. Oh my, loving xposed more and more with each use

i just rooted today and tried gravity, so it's working for me, LTE model
unfortunately, although changing the dpi in build.prop to 240 works fine for everything including contacts and phone, my contacts still crash when i try to open certain entries...not sure why though

Arrr right, maybe theres been an update. Actually I think Xposed itself has had an update.
I'll have a bash with it myself now. Just going to do a nandroid backup first as it went haywire the other time lol
For DPI settings I much prefer the per app DPI module :good:
Edit gravitybox still not working on my C6833 with .257 Rom.
Wait I've fixed it.. I was trying to open the module before enabling it in Xposed Works now..
After testing Xposed framework now for a few weeks I wanted to say it's a great recommendation! Thanks a lot ...
One more question: Is there a way to get rid of Sony's small settings in the notifications and get Android's stock settings (swiping down on the right side of the screen) with Xposed framework?
I found the 'Xperia Flip Settings' Module for the Xposed Framework. This was exactly what I was looking for.

It's all preference, some people like Nova, some like Action.
I've used both and felt that Nova was a bit smoother for me, which is why I chose it for this video
I forgot to mention the icon pack I used is called Dives.
Great icon pack that sort of mimicks the Pixel launcher rounded icons.
Thanks for the vid! I've got only one question: is it possible to get that color effect when pressing the home button just like on the Pixel?
Edit: sorry, got another question: I couldn't get the boot animation to work. Do you need a custom kernel for that? Because I'm fully stock, just twrp recovery and root.

It's not possible to get the color effect on the navbar, not yet at least. I've been looking for a while and eventually just settled on the static navbar icons.
And I couldn't get the boot animation to work properly either, it looked all stretched. Some people seem to have it figured out so I suppose it's possible to apply it properly somehow. Sorry :/

whats wrong with stock lockscreen?
there are plenty lock screens in the store if you want a replacement badly, but none of them supports fingerprint, as per my knowledge

I agree.. but checking notifications is a priority too.. and for some people.. it s a fancy thing, to have a different style lock screen
Mainly I wanted more customization and to see the time of next alarm, without unlocking the screen every time. You can only replace the lock screen by rooting the phone on emui4. However if you want to use fingerprint lock the stock lockscreen must also be enabled, so you have to use a double lock screen. Was not fond of that and turned to Cm13. And it's great! Completely revived the phone.

I would say it's okay for the camera but not the best, its cheaper sibling Vivo Nex has better image quality compared with.
The speaker is mono unfortunately, I think they don't have enough space to fit a large audo component into that tiny upper frame, a bit sad.
Battery is above the average, will do a intensive battery consumption test once I have time.:fingers-crossed:

So far the only way is to get adb working
Type
Adb shell (hit enter)
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.oppo.launcher (hit enter)
However when you swipe up from center it gives you a blank screen. You then have to hit lock screen or drag up from center and hold to show recents then you can drag up from center and it will go to your launcher.
Before using the command above make sure you already have the 3rd party launcher installed
Got one from China, using in Canada right now
Google Assistance isnt working for me (cannot trigger via voice or home button)
Android Auto is not working
Have trouble to disable voicemail notification, Pixel 2 can disable it via some trick but not working with Find X
LTE band works great and download/upload speed is faster than my Pixel 2 (Telus+Freedom Mobile)
URL Links that require to open Google Play wont work, it will open the built-in broswer even I switch the default browser to Chrome, it will not open google play directly
Same idea for google calendar and other google deep intergrated services/app
Need International ROM!!!

My OFX should be arriving any minute now....
Is there an option in the settings to go without a lockscreen?
I don't use a lock screen of any sort, I'll be giving this app a shot (with & without a lock screen) to see what, if any, effect it has, with both swipe gestures & nav buttons.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.jraf.android.nolock
I realize most people use a lockscreen but, thought some may be willing to go without one if, in exchange, you may be able to skip a couple of swipes/etc... in the process.

Found the setting to turn off lockscreen, but,at least for now,it comes at a price:
The good news: Look no further than developer options,it's the 2nd option.
The not so good: You're stuck with the yellow warning background in the status bar
The background color could be disabled on the VIVO NEX by killing the VIVO Services app,at least until the next reboot, not the best option, but,I could live with it.
Perhaps the OPPO equivalent, whatever that .apk is named, will serve us the same result,I'll be spending the better part of the evening trying out different apps.........

Please dont fool yourself with those crappy chinese AOD apps. Accept the fact that if samsung didnt give AOD as a integrated feature it will never come. I tried for many hours to edit the kernel to make the real AOD work but it just wont work, the display doesnt support it.
All those chinese apps do is when you turn off your screen, the app turns it on and adds a AOD overlay ontop of the lockscreen which is just total bullcrap and is buggy

But but but sir, AOD is real sir sand kernel plox
lol
In all seriousness though, it's a shame that native AOD doesn't work on this device, it really is a bad phone I don't know what Samsung was thinking
Is there any AOD that works normally on J6 Pie? There is 2.0.4v that works ok but it has a lot of bugs. Other stuff from the store eats battery like a 5-6% /1h.
