[Q] Phone is overheating, very very hot

MySGSII is overheating, not nice at all. just about 10 min game, the camera area and top part of the screen become really really hot, very worried, is it common, guys?
The phone is not rooted yet. If rooted and with the 'litening rom', will it be better?
Many thanksss!

Sounds normal to me, except doesn't overheat for me, just feels warm.
Overheat means hot to me, and if did overheat, I would immediately cool the phone down in the fridge, that's right in freezer!

Samsung condensation reject warranty = water damage .
jje
Water damage, I didnt say I was gonna freeze the device, only kool it down for about 3 mins if it ever gets overheated. Besides there are people like me that dont need warranty and are technical and fix things by myself!!
The rapid change in temp would cause condensation though..?

im sorry but you dont know much about electronics making this extraordinary claim.
This happens in all sgs2, is this normal to happen? no, not even close, it is a mix of poor software engineering and drivers, most of the times you can play normally if you clear the ram, it works on gun bros and other titles.
Any other proper phone does not have this problem but this phone has been rushed out and has numerous flaws.

What you claim is incorrect.
Electrical components get hot because of the electrons that are "moving" inside the conductor, when they do that (the electrons) you get a side effect which is heat.
When you take an electrical device and push it to his limits, or in other words, USE IT, the temperature rises.
Take for example SanDisk Cruzer 8giga, you plug it in, his temperature is normal, you start copying files, lets say 4 gigs, plug it out and you notice it is now really hot.
so sgs2 isn't poorly made or has numerous flaws, basically unleashed12 is right, maybe you are some sort of a crybaby ?
can I say my ps3 gets hot when I play games on it, so does my pc, so does my broadband modem when its left on and my tv..you tellin me there all faulty??

I agree. My oven gets hot when I use it too, so I guess that's badly made.

Haha. Its not a design flaw. Games tend to be processer heavy hence the heat. Its perfectly normal for any electronic device when being used to high capacity to heat up a lot. Hence heat sinks and fans in computers and xboxes. Simple physics. Yes there are a few flaws in the phone but this is not.one of them.

my note getting hot need advice

well here is my issue , i got a white GNote on the release date , was lagging & doing some strange things like switch to vibrate mode from max volume or going to sound from vibrate so i went ot he store ended up getting it replaced & got a candy shell case with it , i noticed the phone getting hot within 15 to 20 minutes of turning it on & i can feel the heat a little through out the case its coming from the top left corner or the top part in general also noticed while on a phone call with the background in brown color some lines across the screen so anyone else noticed that or am i just having bad luck & need to go back to at&t & try my luck with another one & anyone noticed that the white one lagging more than the black one , please help , any advice will help since one store yesterday treated me badly & told me to go to my original store . thank you all for any advice you might be able to give me .
In a word: No. I've had none of these issues.

My note gets hot as well, especially when taking a video for a few minutes. I only have a flip case so the back cover is stock. I assume the heat is from the cpu area (top left?) Under normal use heat is ok. I also noticed that the video recording and play back is not smooth, even with most apps off. Hopefully an OS upgrade will help. These N American Notes have the qualcomm cpu which seems to perform slower.
RNC
Take the thing back and demand a new one, no it should not get that hot. I use the s**t out of mine (battery last 8 hours) and it never ever gets hot. I have a white one and the thing has yet to lag and is super fast, do not miss my SGS2 at all. Well, I do miss CM9 but now I'm getting O/T.
Take it back ASAP.
just put that flip case on and notice it is getting pretty warm quick while using it for a while. i bought mine here in xda dont think i can take it to a store for return !!!
I can feel some warmth coming from mine right now, and my Streak used to do the same.
I've noticed mine gets hot right below the camera when multitasking for a while, or playing a graphics intense game like shadowgun or dead space, usually right after I finish with the game, close it and it will be hot and will start to cool down within 5 minutes. I also have a speck candyshell case in my black note. I might go and replace it if it keeps happening.

Mine gets warm under heavy use, but never hot. Not using a case right now.
Issue Fixed
ok here is what i did . i called tech support my luck ended with a very nice guy but he didnt know nothing about nothing , lol at least i got that feeling , i demanded a note in my account that will force the store to replace the phone , went down to the store explained to them that i was treated badly by one of their reps , they deeply apologized & i told them what tech support said which was 3 majic words. CUSTOMER / BUYER REMORSE PERIOD , which means you dont have to give them a reason to want an exchange based on at&t policy , NO REASON AT ALL, just tell them you are not liking this headset & they have to replace it no questions asked , once i said that they tried to make me happy & i ended up with another one plus some credits on my bill, plus a new Moshi screen protector LOL. thank you all for the help.

Do you think you'll be able to test it with some gaming, multitasking with a bunch of apps open and surf the web at the same time and report back if it gets hot or if it doesn't, I want to know if is a normal dual core thing or if is something bad with mine.

Hey rolo,
How hot is ur galaxy note after roughly 6-8minutes of shadowgun gaming?
I don't notice mine reaching a really high temperature, lets say "warm"? Not Hot as in really hot e.g. streaming HD movies for 6-10minutes.... Does ur note goes that hot by streaming HD vids?

I will check that video out and post the results to see if my phone proves to have a heat issue as well.
Kony 2012 is certainly a brilliant documentary...would love to donate and get the action kit as well. Here's my battery report. Initially at 73.4F and reach a temp of 81.86F.

Ok so Im almost convinced that the mayor contributor for heating the phone isn't the processor, but the screen! My phone while in idle in my pocket sits about 84f, I surf the web for 10 minutes and the phone was at 95f, on top of that I played shadowgun for about 5 minutes on top of that and got it to 100f, now I took the case off and put it in my car ac vent with the backplate against it and it wouldn't drop temperature, flipped it over so the screen would be against the cold air and within one minute the internal temperature of the battery had dropped to 93f just by cooling down the screen, Im on xda now and it dropped a few more degrees, granted Im running an overclock kernel at 1.75ghz at the moment so that might add to the temps my phone is putting out, gonna flash the stock kernel back in tonight and test and see if there's any difference.

Heat/ warm issues

Hello all,
My S3 get really warm at back bottom. if ideal it's cool. but if i only open crome & surf for 5 mins it gets warm(not hot)
but still it's scary that how a simple browsing task can make a phone such warm??
also when i play gta vc or nfs mw than it gets really really warm at back bottom.
it's my unit or any budy also facing same issue?
plz light up the topic.
Thnaks.
I have same situation, but it shouldn't concern you too much, it's pretty normal with android as it has background processes, maybe something in background is using CPU.
Also you should know, browsing web might not be as simple task as you think.
Because display "hello world " in simple text and display something mixed up with Java, flash, GIF animation, or something I don't even know their name, is very much different...

You can not compare the S3 with them.
The place where it's heating up is de place where the processor is located.
There is only a very thin peace of plastic between the processor and you're hand.
So if your temp is around the 45 degrees it is feeling hot.
It's totally normal for the S3 so don't worry about it.

You've asked at the wrong section.
Every phone that has a CPU (Central Processing Unit) or basically the 'Brain' of the phone will get hot.
It'll get hotter when you're playing games or anything that needs a high demand in processing power.
