Hi ,
I noticed an issue with the display of my Nokia 7.1
the edges of the display look cropped, I mean that text or photos look cut off.
1- the screenshot in the first photo from facebook app shows obvious cropping on the left side (the word Sony)
2-second screenshot from eBay app, see the word lens is missing the letter S
3-third screenshot from Instagram stories, both emoticons are cropped.
4-the last photo shows a screenshot on the left with cropped green leaf,
and on the right, a screenshot sent to me from the account owner the leaf is not as cropped as what I see .
my display size in display setting is on Default !
I contacted Nokia support through the app in the phone, they asked me to do a soft reset, reset app preferences.
nothing solved the issue,
any suggestion, are you facing the same issue ?
My understanding is that this is caused by the aspect ratio (this phone is 18:9). A lot of apps have not been updated on Android to support this natively, which is why you see the cut off edges on images in things like Instagram or Snapchat.
I agree fully with Ansago. I see this in eBay and Instagram (not to the extremes your screenshots show but it is there) and I was also under the impression that it is the long form factor of the screen not playing well with cell padding in the app designs. I tried to alter a lot of settings like display size and keyboard height but nothing was changing the text wrap cut off when I found a few examples. I think because it is limited to so few apps that it is on the app programmers to fix the issue.

One thing i love about ICS and JB is it has vastly improved the Caller images, those low res small images used to really get my goat! Using Hax Sync on ICS was able to get pretty good images and on JB i think the native resolution of the images is even higher because they seem to be a lot sharper. I still dont get the wierd way on which google has decided to splice the photo in the people app / contact menu tho, usually manages to cut of the head or something ,, seem completely illogical for me, tho again Hax Sync and its face detect feature to the rescue .. somewhat atleast ! :victory:
However another issue i see is the black background which pops up on incoming calls which covers about 60 % of the screen. This completely covers the image and defeats the purpose of having these beautiful high res photos of ppl synced to your phone.
Is there anyway around this which can either reduce the size and coverage of this black background or alternately control its translucence?
Any ROMs / Mods out there that address this ?
Would appreciate any suggestion on this..
Thanks
Hoshner.
Here check out this screen shot, as you can see, almost 75% of the screen is taken up by the opaque black background and the top by the translucent caller id banner, leaving just a thin slice of the screen for the caller photo..
Any devs have / can work on mods for this?
I am experiencing this issue with my Z2 running .69 firmware.
I updated upon receiving my handset so i can't say if it's firmware related or hardware related.
To describe my issue, whenever i move photos to photo editing apps, there is a visible degradation of my pictures. I'm labeling the issue as degradation for now, but note that there is no lost of image size or resolution. Instead, the issue is the appearance of green splotches over the image, similiar to the appearance of noise on digital cameras.
This happens regardless of the editing app, it seems whenever the picture is moved to another app, the problem occurs.( E.g. in gallery; share a picture via Instagram or VSCO )
Attached are two images, neither images have received any filter. only difference is that one has gone through 3-4 apps. For clarification, the apps are not the one degrading the picture as it works fine on my GNex.
Kindly open both files and is is pretty evident there is a green tint on the second picture.
Can anyone test if their handset is experiencing this same issue?
Is there some sort of Sony "enhancement" going on behind the scenes causing this?
Is it limited to the Z2 or is this an issue of Kitkat?
If possible, could someone help me test if this is a problem with my specific handset?
kindly move a shot to VSCO or your favourite editing app, don't make any edits but just save the file and compare between the original and the "edited" file. you can try moving the image through 3-4 apps and note the green tint becoming stronger each time.
This is happening on all my pictures, regardless if i took it off the phone or through a dedicated camera and then transferred it over. The colour shift is greatly bothering me as it just ruins the picture.
Thanks.
I just tried with a couple of photos. On one of them the green tint was apparent (on white background) but the other is identical with the original.
Hi, Thanks for doing the test.
It seems there is some form of over aggressive noise reduction when photos are moved. It tries to reduce the noise by smudging it, however it results in the whole image having the green tint.
In your first image, the green tint is actually present, go back and forth between the two pictures and you'll notice the skin tone of your thumb changes slightly.
The effect of this noise reduction becomes over bearing when moving the photos through multiple apps, and it is seriously bothering me...
Furthermore, this is totally redundant, why is there a need to modify pictures that are being moved around? I understand if it's present on the camera's software but to implement it when editing pictures??
I have contacted Sony regarding this but they simply asked me to do a Factory reset which won't solve the issue. I have asked them to push this to the software team, hoping it is removed in the next update.
If there is a more direct way to contact the Sony android software team, kindly let me know, thanks.
If However you are not experiencing this, do let us know as well so i can decide if i should send it down for repair or not.
Could more people test this issue?
It seems more than just colour issues.
There are tons of compression artifacts in my pictures, making smooth surfaces appear blotchy.
I was really happy with my LG G5, until after a week or so, I noticed that the screen actually seems to have problems with "fast" change of movement. And I am really annoyed at this point by it, because I compared it with other devices of mine, and it's not that bad on these older devices. For example my old phone, a Samsung Galaxy S3, doesn't have this issue at all.
You can easily notice it in the Android settings (use list view). When you now slowly move up/down with your finger, you see that all fonts have a "ghost-effect" (get blurry) of not properly refreshing in time. There is a bit of border / re-draw affect around each word on the screen.
You will notice it also for example on the app store scrolling down / up, or in an app drawer (if you have a launcher with app drawer) and scroll through the app list.
On my phone i have no ghosting or problems with fast change of movement. There is a website called "testufo" where you can test your display for ghosting and FPS.
Has someone experienced "dancing blacks" with vertical or horizontal scrolling, specially in low bright settings?.(40 or below)
I have purchased an EU ver. Of V30 and i experience this behaviour every time i do scrolling with photos, desktop icons with black contour (like netflix) webpages with black lĂnes or blocks... Or everything containing black colour.
When i move the photo, scroll across website... The part that contains black colour seems to dance on screen, it's hard to describe but it's something like jelly effect, the black part of the object, photo... seems slower and doesn't scroll accordingly. I went to a local store to check it on another unit and discard a faulty one and i saw the same effect.
Regards
That's the feature of all oled displays, nothing you can do with it except changing the brightness to the level it doesn't show any signs of this "violet trails"
i have that behavior too on my H930DS. no solution yet.
The phone regulates it's brightness through PWM, so that you don't have the same issue like on the g flex where the whole display got blurry and grayish when you turned the brightness down. Because the display shuts itself on and off many times per second (222 times according to a German review page), you see that when you are sensitive. Just set the display brightness higher, then you should be fine.
Hi guys,
as the title said I am experiencing a glitch with my phone. The good news is that it occurs only a few times a year but I was wondering what's happening here. The side effect only occurs when I turn on the screen and vanishes on the next screen turn on. When I try to screen capture this it results in a "normal" screenshot (i.e., the side effect isn't visible). Clearing the cache doesn't seem to help. Here is the video (https://youtu.be/vZ0cBGjlBlM). Photos are attached bellow for a sharper picture because YouTube downgrades video quality.
If some of you didn't notice, the background photo on the "grayscale" image is the background photo I attached below (what should the phone actually be displaying).
Thanks for your help!
