Need Help Rooting - LG V30 Questions & Answers

I've read three or four different threads on how to root this device. It's been years since I've tried to root an android so I'm probably just nervous for no real reason. But is anyone around that would be willing to chat with me on WhatsApp or Text while I go through the process just to make sure I don't screw anything up?
Thanks in advance. Just reply here if you are willing to help me out.

There's only one of two threads you need:
* WTF instructions for every V30/V30+/V30S -- EXCEPT for T-Mobile H932.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76584629&postcount=193
* LAF exploit thread if you have T-Mobile H932.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/how-to/root-h932-lafploit-1-5-to-v20a-t3842550
On either, read the instructions in a web browser, not an app. Print them out if you can.
You didn't say what variant you had, otherwise I could have given you the exact thread you needed.

Thanks! I have the Sprint LG V30 currently on the LS99822a version so that seems to be post-July patch which means I'll have to Frankenstein to the US998 first, downgrade, then root with the WTF method, then go back to LS998? Or am I missing something?

Yes.
You are a Sprint customer? If so, just make sure you activate your LS998 on Sprint first -- if you haven't already -- before making any changes.
If you're not a Sprint customer, no need to go back to LS998 firmware. I bought two LS998 V30+ to convert and stay as US998 V30+ on AT&T.

Flash back to 10b is the only fix. No other versions can be rooted.

My suggestion would be to read more as this can ruin your phone if you don't know what you are doing. Not trying to be rude....but you need to study the subject. Check out the tutorials all over the LG G3 section

Two methods, one is flashing a .tot file, the other is flashing a .kdz.
I include a link to the post for the .tot approach, the .kdz one is found in a thread in the Verizon G3 General forum area, a post by annoyingduck.

Doesn't matter if you ever had it, you can still put it on. I'm sure you are on 11c, otherwise stump wouldn't say its patched.
The previous post has the links you need to get it reverted to an older version.

Arrogant ****s like YOU are the biggest "tech" problem, this person clearly stated they they were not tech savvy yet you still talk down to them.
That's my favorite part of the "online community"...everyone's a tough guy.
As a parting gift, I'll give you this: Do a little homework before you reply to this in ANY way that could be deemed disrespectful.

[Q] Root for My LG g3

I am generally new here to the forums and I would like to know how to root my LG g3. I know that it is rude to ask for help with out trying everything first so here is what I tried.
1. Stump Device is patched sorry
2. PurpleDrake --Reboots phone but does not root
3. IOroot does not work
4. TowelRoot-Does not root.
Here is some of my Sprint LG g3's information
Model Number LGLS990
Software Version LS990ZVG (IT came with the phone I did a factory reset) Some threads tell me I new to downgrade to ZV4, but I don't know how to do it safely some assistance would be much appreciated.

What is your android version?
We've only had zv2, zv4, and now zv6. If you have anything else, you either got Lollipop if your Android version is 5.0, or you don't have a Sprint phone.
And as far as we know Lollipop isn't out yet for Sprint, and there's probably no root for it yet.
@tbruff13
This explains that you have to roll back.
In your case back to ZV4 in the general section you can find a guide on how to do this.

Thing is... If it is Sprint AND ZVG, that's something we haven't seen yet. And we need to get a hold of it to see if it's L.

LGv30 H931 & ASOP

Hi!
I am wondering if anyone out there has gotten either LineageOS or Resurrection Remix working on the lgv30 att h931 via the Frankenstein method. I've worked on this for weeks and have gotten nothing but bootloops.
I have read that this specific version of the app doesn't play nice with aosp. I would just like to know if it is actually possible currently or if I'm just wasting my time.
No luck on my end as well. I am getting the same results.

Cool, thanks and same here.
Exact same results trying to get Lineage and RR on my H931 converted to US988. I was hoping maybe it had to do with converting to US988 instead of something else, but I guess not.
Is it only AOSP roms that don't work though?

Yeah, I've tried all other non stock roms with different combinations and I get the same results. The only ones that boot fine for me on h931are h930/us998 stock roms.
Markus has been looking into this for a while. I, too, have an H931 converted. No luck with any AOSP or LOS roms. It's a known problem. Really hoping a solution is found soon.
Has anyone tried with gsi(pixel, lineos or havocOS)?
I have yet to test GSIs. Only thing I havent tried

What did you do to get into bootloop? What were you coming from, what did you flash?
Do you even have H931?
You really need to give more information.

I have an H931 and I try to switch to US998 for the Frankenstein process, so I can upgrade to Oreo.
But after performing step 2, the phone started doing Bootloop.
Already try to do the master reset but keep restarting

Just as I thought. You need to flash US998 Nougat, THEN Master Reset.
I'm betting you probably accidentally flashed Oreo instead of Nougat? Or you're doing Master Reset wrong.
Which US998 Nougat firmware did you flash? Number and letter?
Did you use Partition DL mode?
Your problem has nothing to do when AOSP ROMs. You should post in the Frankenstein thread...

If you have Sprint as carrier and wish to continue with Sprint as carrier, make sure LS998 is ACTIVATED on SPRINT BEFORE bootloader unlock and root.

Well it should have DTS stereo framework (probably) like US998 and Verizon VS996 got, but you'll need root to fully enable it.

What is DTS Stereo Framework? I also just though...it would be nice if this brings RCS Messaging but I'd think they'd make a bigger deal about that.
More importantly, for those who haven't rooted yet, arb??

Downloading H932 22R now myself, but will probably be uploaded to Android File Hosts tonight after work. I'll go ahead and create the XDA thread as a placeholder and put in the links later tonight.
I don't see any need to put in past Oreo KDZ for the H932, do you? The only reason it will exist is for H932 users to have most recent KDZ/TWRP flashable zip after they root their phones OR if they want to go back to rooted-stock firmware from custom ROMs. I'll then stack newer releases as they come out.

No, both our threads will be down in the ROMs/Kernels/Recoveries section. Q&A section is not the correct place to post releases.

Well, @JohnFawkes and @seadersn TWRP-flashable zip files and @westwood24 before them is what makes something like this run. @SGCMarkus work on TWRP and then @seadersn followup is the foundation. H932 still wouldn't have root (the lone holdout of the V30 inventory) without @runningnak3d. The devs are who make it work. I just try to supply coherent information, when I can.

Absolutely! Zero doubt about the role of the devs. This is XDA. And I am glad you pass the credit to them.
But you serve the role of custodian (which I mean in the most positive sense) preserving and organizing information about all things V30, for all the different models. This is a huge help, not just to individual members and V30 users, but also to the devs, who can focus more on developing thanks to your efforts.
OK, enough with the praises, which I realize can get uncomfortable. It just needed saying. Over & out.
