Hi. I want to ask if someone else have issues with top speaker.
In my phone it dont have exactly same loudness level as bottom speaker. Also that was an issue on Review that i saw on YT before EU Release.

That is normal. They have used two types of speakers. I was a little disappointed to learn of this. The top speaker is a midrange speaker while the bottom speaker is full range. They should have used a full range speaker for both. You shouldn't notice this under normal use, but if you run a left-right test on youtube, you'll notice.

Yeah. Ive notixed that on YT and when playing games. Thats bit werid using lower quality top speaker in gaming phone. Its intuitive to play games in horizontal position. Wondee if someone in Asus didnt notice that, or they hope for that the customer did not notice that

The front-facing speakers were one of the main reasons I bought this phone and was disappointed that they did this. I noticed that the speakers were different sizes when I saw a video of a teardown of the phone. Then I verified that they were different when I ran the left-right test on youtube.

One thing that always bugged me with the SGS is that, with the help of Supercurio & hardcore, we got the use of some beautiful sounding earphone output but the speaker output was very poor.
Also, why always only one speaker? The SGWifi now has stereo speakers which should make them sound much better and the iPhone4 has them, but my question is: Does the SGS2 have dual speakers?
The only picture I've seen on the back has ONE speaker on the lower side but I can't see the other side.

I remember reading somewhere that it has dual speakers.....
Problem is I cant remember where I read it now.
I would think one speaker is the norm, especially on super-thin smartphones. The stereo speakers on my Nokia 6233 five years ago were awesome.

It wont sound good no matter how many or what kind of speakers you put in there... At least to someone who has sensible ears. It should be loud enough so it wakes you up in the morning and so you hear when someone sent you an sms/calls you.
The only use of dual speakers is to annoy other people in a public settings - I'd rather have a thinner/lighter/cheaper smartphone than such a useless feature.
I really HATE people who use phone speakers in public transportation. If I wanted to hear their music I would put it on my phone Only feature it is good for is for your notification sound/ringtone or in private situations.
Don't forget that what you want or don't want doesn't always apply to what other people want or don't want. I would love to see dual speakers to get a little more clarity and a little more volume. There are several times that I've used my phone to play music in a group setting because, while the speaker isn't the best, it's the best we had. For example, Tuesday nights are poker night. I'll probably throw my phone on Pandora just to play some background music.

my old HTC had dual speaker, and it delivered real stereo instead of monofied stereo on the standard single speakers phones

it seems that you were standing right infont of the left loud speaker, were with the iphone it seams the guy way in the middle. so it wont get so much distortion.
I have the same problem with my S2 when the outside audio level is high.

Are you certain you installed the Camera.apk correctly? 6 seconds should equal roughly 12Mb (stock is about 9). If anything this is either the modded camera (When I used it the audio was very shrill, much like the video you recorded. This is due to the larger sampling and bit rates.), Samsung screwed up (maybe this is just how the mic records), OR you were standing in a poor location (the two video weren't recorded in the same place from the look of it).
I think that being close to a speaker should not be a problem if the auto-volume adjustment worked properly. What we are trying to understand here is if this is just a problem with our devices or a general issue. Is there anybody who can confirm that videorecording live music performances with the S2 does NOT produce distorted audio?

Same problem! I would love to see a fix for that. Even a little bit of wind will screw up the sounds completely. I'm also looking for an external mic now....

I have the same problem (record in a quite room with no noise, then when i play it back there's a hiss)

Now is this a fault with the phone or can I fix it? Just wanted to ask before I send it back to Samsung.
The white noise (hissing sound) comes from a plastic piece inside the phone that is over the microphone. Removing it removes the white noise. You cannot do this without voiding the warranty, so bringing it down to the service center would be a good idea.
The plastic piece over the mic is like cupping your ears with your hands. HISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

Now that I am on Android 2.3.4, recording video using an external microphone works. I used your headphone mic and I got rid of the distortion. Has anyone tried the Brando Mini Capsule Microphone (or any other mini microphone) on their SII?
Disclaimer: I did search in the forum and did not see this question asked or answered.
First off I LOVE my prime. I thought my only issue was really just a small amount of light bleed in one spot and I could live with that. So I synced my iTune music to my prime and cranked up a tune. To my surprise I noticed a rattling in the speaker that I had not noticed when playing games or watching movies. Thinking it was just a bad song I picked out one that I knew I purchased through iTunes that played great on an iPhone and other devices. Turned it on and though it is mostly ok you can hear distortion in the speaker even when the volume is turned up only 75%. Next I placed the Prime in the dock and the sound became somewhat hollow and the distortion was even more noticeable. It is interesting how the sound changes when placed in the dock. I removed the Prime from the dock and plugged it into the charging cable and the sound did not change as it did when docked. Just to be sure it was not my iTunes music I downloaded a free song from the Market and it performed the same as my iTune music with some distortion. With a headset, however, the music is great.
I have read where others compliment the sound from the speaker and say the dock makes it deeper and better in some ways. I don't expect this to be a high fidelity audio system but I didn't expect to hear the speaker have tones that rattled somewhat like a paper speaker with a small tear.
Just curious if anyone else has experienced this and it is normal or if I am the unlucky guy with a defective speaker. I am undecided on whether to: 1) exchange with Best Buy 2) RMA with Asus or just ignore it as I will normally use headphones if listening to music and alerts and games sound decent so far.
All input welcome.
I listen to alot of music on my prime and have never heard the speakers cracking...
I am also using an app to enhance the speakers (volume +) makes it a lot louder and less tin can like sounding.
Sorry to hear about your speakers crackling, does not sound normal. I don't have a dock so i cannot test what your talking about.

Well I am not sure what kind of audio you'd expect from mobile devices, but I would call myself kinda audiophil with a rather large home cinema system at home and the Prime is the first mobile device I own and the first I've seen (heard),
where I actually want to listen to music with it.
My Prime has outstanding speakers for that size. I totally love it. So maybe you got a broken speaker (it has actually stereo speakers, so maybe one is broken?)
Ah and I use Volume+ too raise the Volume.

Yea, start a great action film, put the prime next to a solid wall/thing/whatever, max out the volume and enjoy the brachial sound
Can't stress often enough how impressed I am by the sound Makes me sound like a super fanboy
Unfortunately, regardless the song at full volume my speaker sound over driven the way it is. When in the dock it also sound hollow. Definitely sound different in and out of the dock. Funny thing is I really don't hear the distortion with games or movies only songs.
I called Best Buy and they show them unavailable on their system and I didn't really want to return it to them anyway since it is otherwise great so I will test more and decide if I want to have Asus take a look at it at some point. If so I have a small spot of light bleed they can take care of. Either way I LOVE this device and truth be told I use earbuds or headset 80% of the time anyway. Just the fact that I want it right.

Just wondering what you guys think of it? I go to a lot of concerts and music festivals and the video quality on the note is superb. However, the sound from the video is horrible. The one thing that me and my friends all agree upon is the video sound recording on the iphone is better than any phone out there. The note simply cannot handle loud sounds, particularly really loud bass. The sound on the whole video is just off and it sounds like the microphone is in direct wind. Dont get me wrong, I love the note and I am an android fanboy, however I think this is an area which the iphone dominates. What do you guys think about the sound recording quality? Is there anyway to fix this through software? hardware?
never found a problem with audio from video recordings. few weeks ago i was filming a drift event at a local track and sound came out fine with all the loud noises going on.

the playback of audio recorded with a video is going to bad if you are recording anything with a lot of bass or any high dB sounds that are above the microphones ability to capture. These phones use a microphone thats really just a small speaker, when loud sounds are being emitted and your trying to capture them they can ofter "bottom out" the microphone so that all you hear is loud static distortion or if the bass is really heavy, nothing at all.

I think the video quality is awesome on this phone. I haven't watched them on any external devices though, my opinion is purely off of viewing the videos off the phone.
As far as the drift meet you went to, I'm pretty sure the note can handle the sounds of screeching tires, I am mainly talking about BASS. I understand that almost all devices have a certain limit until the microphone can no longer handle the strong bass. The sound gets distorted, and you can't hear anything else. All I am saying is that somehow the iphone is able to handle strong bass at a concert even when you are standing pretty close to the stage. Anyone else experience the distorted sound on their note?
I have personally experienced this and it must be due to the different build qualities of the microphone. Is it possible to attach an external microphone via the headphone jack and use that to record video sound rather than using the one built into the phone? that would make a huge difference IMO

also not sure why your expecting amazing quality sound from recording a live performance, no matter what phone if ur close to the speakers your not going to get non distorted sound, ive owned every iphone and never heard clear quality sound after going back and watching vids i took at partys and such, i do belive i saw something on engadget the other day about a better quality mic u can plug into the headphones jack

I was just thinking about this before bed last night. I was looking at some recently shot kareoke videos from my note. The audio quality is absolutely horrendous. Like...disappointing bad.
My atrix was was leaps and bounds better. Was able to handle (and reproduce) bass just fine. Never distorted the audio like the note does. From concerts (rock mind you) to kareoke, anything...I guess its an unfortunate con ill have to live with.

I know exactly what you mean, in terms of capturing sound at, say...a concert. It is overpowered. I've heard that one way to tackle this problem is to put tape, or a finger, over the mic hole when recording.
Here's a vid I took when I saw The Black Keys a cpl months ago. I even wrote in the description that it's a shame the sound is crappy...

I am not expecting amazing sound quality, just good enough so that it doesnt sound like crap. Obviously microphones on phones have their limits, but as I have stated, and as others in this thread have stated, the note is pretty bad at recording sound. My girlfriend has an iphone and all of my friends have iphones, and trust me, the sound recording is much better on it. Still love my Note though, best phone ever!
I seen rammstein and just like the others said.. Very loud sounds makes the audio sound very muffled and hard to hear.. I wonder if I had the the recording volume set halfway. If it would of sounded better?

I can tell you this, its way better than HTCs Video playback. Their sound quality is low.

I found a solution by connecting the ear set of the phone and using it`s mic to rec sound. At levels as high as 110db that i tested (in a consert)
Sound quality was audible enough. So thats my pov on this subject. You should try it.
The V20 has a directional setting for the sound when recording video. You can bias the recording to sounds coming from either the lens side or the screen side of the phone. The former is great for when you are recording people or events, the latter has been fantastic when the shooter is commenting on what is being videoed. Does the V30 still have this front-to-back mic bias selector?
The V30 does not have that slider. Not exactly sure why but the guess is due to the mic arrangement.
The V20 had three mics that were constant and could be switched between. (Although, to this day I still can't find anything that shows where the third mic was.) The V30 has two mics and the RAM (Receiver As Mic) when the decibels get high enough. You don't get to control that last one, it just comes on when the volume of what you're recording hits an ear splitting level. So there's really only two mics recording the rest of the time.
Any time I've been out trying to record with the V20, the slider only made a minor difference. I'd still pick up ambient noise from behind me. So my second guess is that LG decided the slider wasn't doing enough to justify its inclusion this round. Reality is that there's a reason you run separate soundtrack recording from video if you're really doing sound sensitive recordings. (That's part of the reason you see that clapboard at the beginning of filming for movies and videos. It gives an audio and visual alignment point for mixing the two later.)

Thank you for your detailed answer! Have you tried that RAM solution in a noisy environment or have some link for an audio test? In fact I can't find much audio recording tests online for the V30 despite its growing popularity as if no one cares about it ...
Oh yeah, I definitely had it kick in on me Wednesday night. I was standing in front of a speaker stack at a concert. A message pops-up when you start recording and it senses you're in such an environment. You probably won't see many tests of the RAM as it takes something around 120 decibels to kick in. My left ear is still ringing from Wednesday night and yesterday I was dizzy.
That said, how does it sound? As long as what you're recording stays constant, it sounds pretty good. If there's changes, specifically loud to extremely loud, you hear a change that makes you realize it's just applying a simple filter to the audio. Which is to be expected. To pull off the miracle of having the sound keep a constant in such a situation would require a much larger recording operation than will fit in a phone. (My audio geek friends are still surprised at what control you can get with the V series.)
Once I know I can hear what I recorded the other night, I'll load some up to YouTube and link back on one of the threads here.
