LG v30 oleophobic coating gone. - LG V30 Questions & Answers

Hardly used my v30 for 2 months and the oleophobic coating is already gone. As soon as i wipe the phone screen with a clean cloth and use it for 5 min, i already see fingerprints on the whole screen. Anybody experienced this? Any resolutions? Don’t seem to find tempered glass anywhere for this phone as it has curved screens.

If you live in Europe this may help: https://www.amazon.es/gp/product/B077JYR4BL/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Also it's possible to order from USA or other countries in the World but there are shipping costs (example: USA 9€+5€ (aprox. 16$))
I use this glass and I'm very happy with it.
Regards
mkpcxxl

When I first bought my phone a year ago, I had the employee at Verizon put on a tempered glass covering for me. He did a good job, but the glass eventually started coming loose around the edges, letting dirt, fuzz, hair and small things get under it somewhat. Very irritating. The glass only had a small line of glue around the outer edge to hold it on. It finally fell completely off about a month ago.
A couple of weeks ago, I went back into a Verizon store to see if they could put another tempered glass covering on for me. But, I've found that the American Verizon stores that I went in does not carry any or very little LG accessories such as tempered glass covering. What I finally did was have them put on a "liquid glass" covering for me. This was quite expensive having them do it in store, but I think you can probably order it on line a lot cheaper.
The draw back is, I think, a big one. It is on there permanently. I don't know if there is a way to get it off if you get scratches on it. After 3 weeks or so, mine is still looking pretty good with no visible scratches, yet. It wipes off pretty clean, still (don't know how long all this will last).
It's an option if you can't find tempered glass.

[Q] Defective Gorilla Glass? Best Screen Protector? Geek Squad Protection?

I have had my Note 2 for one week now, and I have gotten a few very hairline scratches on the screen. I have NEVER placed my phone in a pocket with keys, dirt, debris, nor have I ever dropped it or misused it. The scratches are right where I normally swipe the screen to scroll on web pages, but I have never tried this with dirt on my hands.
I have babied this phone since day one and I feel frustrated that the Gorilla Glass 2 doesn't hold up nearly as well as its predecessor.
Questions:
1) I have a few days left to buy into the Geek Squad Protection Program, is it worth it? I've heard horror stories about them not standing behind their service.
2) Has anyone else had this problem with it scratching easily?
3) What is the best screen protector on the market?
Check the spigen Ultra Nano Clear screen protectors, they are awesome.
I have had my N2 since the day they where released and my screen is perfect even with no screen protector.
As far as the BB protection plan, my Son is checking into that right now (he has the plan on a razr maxx that needs to be replaced) His best friend works at BB so he is checking on what they do/don't cover next time he goes to work.
I have also had a great experience with my SGP ultra crystal protector. It doesn't even collect fingerprints as badly as I thought it would.

My screen is still pretty scratch free, with the exception of a few minor ones.
As far as the Geek Squad Plan, I used to work for Best Buy Mobile. In my time there I never refused a phone. The one thing to be aware of is that scratches don't count as it being a broken/faulty phone. If it was cracked it would then be replaced. Other important factor is that you don't get an immediate replacement. They send it out and you get a new phone shipped back to the store in about 2 days. You can either use an old device or get a "loaner" phone from BB. I don't work for Best Buy anymore but still do have the Protection Plan on all my phones. I've used it a few times even after rooting and returning to stock. Never had a problem.
Hope this helps.
You had something as hard as sand (or harder) rub against your screen.
There is nothing defective with GG, or GG2 (the difference is that 2 is thinner, not tougher). It just so happens that a substance harder than glass scratched it.
GG is not scratch proof, not by a long shot. Your phones didn't scratch like this before because they didn't encounter the same substance that scratched yours.
Gorilla Glass is pure marketing. All of the things they show not scratching GG, doesn't scratch other tempered glasses either.
Had my note 2 almost 2 weeks and have noticed a few very small scratches on the screen too. I picked up the Just Like Glass protectors for mine, get them in the mail today.
Try out the tech armor hd clear screen protectors, they work really well. No orange peel effect or screen distortion at all. Also they are going for under $4.00 on amazon if you have a prime account. In regards to the bb protection plan. I have never used it. I too have worked at bb in the past and all my coworkers agreed it wasn't worth it. Try out squaretrade. I have used them for all my phone warranties and they do an excellent job taking care of you in terms of sending a replacement or reimburrsing you should have to buy a new phone off contract price.
Sent from my Note 2!
I've had my phone since before Christmas, and I do have stuff in my pockets with it during the week at work, though nothing metal, and the screen is still just as nice as before.
Ive had some scuffmarks appear..I just used some automotive scratch remover and it works great..
If theyre scratches you can feel with a fingernail..then youre out of luck.

Well I think I'm going to try the Best Buy thing. Maybe my phone will unknowingly jump out of my pocket and shatter its screen next week.
The scratches are very small and hard to identify, but whenever I pull up a completely white screen, the scratches cause the light to reflect different colors. So a fully blank screen (white) has 1-2mm long and very thin blue/green/red-ish lines across it. Extremely annoying considering I will be having this phone for the next 2 years.
Any advise on the Best Buy warranty or the best way to go about filing for a new phone?
Also, screen protectors will be in hand whenever I get my replacement Note since it seems they aren't as durable as once thought.

[Q] Possible to replace Gorrilla Glass 2 with Gorilla Glass 1 or 3 on 920?

Hello, does anyone know if it's possible to replace the Gorilla Glass 2 on the 920 with Gorilla Glass 1 or 3? The glass on my Zune HD was amazing - after using it for years I couldn't get any scratches on it, but on both my 900 and 920 I got scratches within the first few weeks of using it. I've purchased a screen protector on Amazon, but wondering if there's any way to purchase a replacement touch screen for the 920 made of another type of glass? Installing it's not a problem, but are there any retailers who sell Gorilla Glass 1/3 screens for it, or do you have to be an OEM to get Gorilla Glass?

You can't do that because obviously nobody has produced one so far, and most likely never will...also, your problem is probably related to the fact that the Zune HD didn't have oleophobic coating, while instead modern phones with GG tend to have it. Probably the scratches you noticed aren't even on the glass itself but on the coating. When you manage to scratch the real glass you can tell it by the fact that you're able too actually feel the scratch with your fingernail. Don't get me wrong tho, GG can still be scratched, no matter what, it's just tougher in general, so it's all up to your luck if you decide to go naked. If you wanna be 100% safe a screen protector is the only option, while instead if you wanna keep the natural look and feel of the glass while still having some sort of scratch protection the best option IMHO is picking one of those flip cases, at least the screen won't slide against the stuff you may happen to have in your pockets. You can either pick the one from Nokia, the CP600, or some of the cases from Nillkin which are cheaper and very decent too. I've ordered one myself, but shipping from Asia takes ages. I'll definitely post a review as soon as I get it.

Thanks for the information, I hadn't considered that it might be because of the coating. I got a screen protector for it so I'm happy Thanks!

[Q] Are you planning on putting a screen protector on your device?

Curious to know how many people will be putting those wet rubbery protectors on there device. I ordered three different brands but now that I think about it, do I really want to have to deal with that mess? Yes, you risk damaging your screen or scratching it but you have to change that rubbery stuff every few months. I had them on iphones and blackberries and after a few months they would get really nasty. I do have a Spigen tough case on it. The regular non rubbery screen protectors only cover the screen before the curve.
Just was curious to know what everyone was going to do. They won't arrive till later in the week, since Amazon misqouted arrival dates, so I am still mulling over it.
I've always put screen protectors on all the phones I've had before I let them out in the wild, but never those wet ones! My phone should be arriving sometime in the next few days and I already have several no-brand screen protectors (regular PET type which only cover the centre of the screen so I'll see how those go), and two Spigen cases (thin-fit smooth black and Ultra Hybrid clear). May end up opting for a tempered glass screen protector once some reviews come out. I have a tempered one on my G2, but it seriously limits the type of case I can use due to the bezels being almost non-existent so I'll wait for now.

As far as I know, there aren't any tempered glass screen protectors for the S6 edge that will cover the entire screen. They haven't figured out a way to create one yet and if they do, I think a lot of people were saying cost would be an issue, for instance someone was stating prices like $50, $75, or $100. I might put one of those center ones on but it would really be pointless if it doesn't protect the entire screen.

Like anything, if there is a demand for a product then prices will come down but you're right, initially tempered glass screen protectors could, and most likely will be expensive at first. I know there are PET screen protectors that curve around the screen, which I may try but I'd have to order them from overseas, and I'll need something to get me going. I'm always really careful with my phones and have never dropped, broken or scratched one, but it would be just my luck if I decided to let this one go naked. Right now I'm just hoping that my phone doesn't come scratched out of the box like others have experienced!
I hate non tempered glass screen protectors. Why have a beautiful screen and screw it up with a that? However, love the tempered glass ones but I seriously doubt there will be one for the edge. Ha ha.
Usually I'm only a tempered glass user but with this Edge I'll have to settle with a regular one. I bought the Invisible Shield Dry HD and I love it. It has gotten better over the years and the orange peel effect is all but gone. It's bubble free and barely noticible.

Att.com had them when I ordered the phone.
Out of stock but here is what you may be looking for.

I never liked invisi shield because of this (see photos), these bubbles. Will these eventually resolve? I followed the instructions to the letter.

Not without reviews where the person actually wrote out what they thought about it, no matter how cheap it is.
Yes, I always use a screen protector. I hate bubbles though so I have to get it perfect before im happy.

Bestbuy has them. just had one put on the other day.
Never used the wet ones but the mess doesn't sound appealing. I always get dry ones for my phone because I'd rather the cover get scratched than the screen itself. I've got a matte one that covers the edges coming from Amazon sometime this week. I'm trying matte for the first time because I like the idea of glare reduction.
I have a Zagg InvisibleShield HDX cover on my S6 Edge. Goes completely over all the edges and sits almost flush with my cover. I paid to have Best Buy apply it and they did a pretty good job. It is already starting to peel up but I'll go back and they'll re-apply it or they'll fix it with a re-application of the adhesive.
thanks

I am worried about pressure points.
with no glass cover, the aluminum edging actually makes it impossible for glass to touch the floor, no matter what angle you try at.
I am worried that, if I add 1 mm of glass on top of the current glass plate, that the thickness will rise past the aluminum case.
meaning that impacts would be redirected to the glass plate.
and not in ideal spots probably.
Ive always used tempered glass before. on flat screens.
but I have second guessed this time..
I may use a thin film.
My theories are probably not exactly correct.
the extra layer of tempered glass would probably add more strength.
I just imagine those weak points and pressure points of the glass and second guess the engineering.
while looking at the phone now.. the corners of the second glass plate would rest on an edge surface with hard material underneath,
meaning extra reinforcement..
I think I will use the tempered glass also.

Anyone using Protectors and Skins by GadgetShieldz

Hi Guys,
Since there is no good tempered glass or screen protector available for the S7(not edge), Spigen has one but that's way too expensive and I wasn't able to find an authentic one in the market. Has anyone tried protectors and skins by GadgetShieldz? Here's the link-
http://www.gadgetshieldz.com/samsung-galaxy-s7-screen-protectors-covers-cases.html
The plus is that if the product is as good as they are describing then it covers the sides too. The con is that there is no actual proof or hands on video regarding the same+it is still expensive atleast for me but there's no other alternative.
Thanks
I just ordered the matte and the ultra clear screen protectors. I didn't buy the body because I have a Rhinoshield bumper and back protector. I'll post a review once they arrive.
Good product the body shield is
Have been using the Gadgetshielz full body protector for 6 months now. It is quite good and the cuts are precise. Quite a lot of work, applying them is. Be patient after applying, in a week or so, the bubbles and wobbles will sort themselves out. Was hard to believe when I completed installation and saw what a mess it was.
That doesn't look like tempered glass. I will NEVER go back to the flimsy protectors. Too many issues with bubbles, etc. But, I have yet to find a tempered glass that full covers the edges. It's more of an issue when things are right at the edges (such as text) that makes it difficult to read, but I'll take that as it's rare knowing that I have a tempered glass protector on that does a better job of absorbing the shock of a drop.
Using their screen protector, with my rhinoshield bumper case and no bubble. Wanted glass first but all those that I bought, the case lifted them or they had the big halo, lifting all around cause the curve screen.

Thanks mate. I bought two and will report when it arrives
So, here's why review-
Finally ordered them. It was my first time that I was installing any sort of protector and I was super nervous. The protector kept coming off. I had to wet it with the solutions many times. I drove out the bubbles as many as I could but the end result was way too foggy and messy. But after 48 hours everything was gone, except few dust and fingerprints particles which are my fault BTW there's a huge particle of dust on the back button. Can I lift it up just a tad to remove it? I still have the solution, I am planning to wet it to reapply. Will it work?
Also can anyone suggest a good cover for S7? My current one is a chinese one, but I think it will remove the side protectors if I take the phone out few times because with the side protectors the sides bulge out a bit. @r3xx3r @ere1nion
Any way to get the same cover in India?

I searched for a month, ordered like 10 different tempered glasses from various websites but they all sucked. GS's protector is not a glass but it is the best alternative to a glass.

Correct it is not. I use the Otterbox Commuter and Otterbox Defender so this is not an issue for me particularly. I had a partial screen protector on already so no shift in change for me there either. I just received mine in the mail today. The back application was by far harder than the front. I didn't get it perfect. It's the material used on the back. I will not be testing this screen protector but I feel confident with it on. Hopefully it will never need to prove itself.
So, my protector is screwed thanks to Gear VR, it kept on removing the upper part of the protector every time I put the phone in the Gear VR or took it out. Has anyone tried the so called buff guard(a type of tempered glass) which covers the whole screen even the edges? Is there any alternative for the GadgetShieldz protector?
My wife just upgraded to an S7 (tried the Moto Z and it was too big, bulky and heavy for her). She wanted a tempered glass screen protector, but not like the one I have (which doesn't cover the entire screen due to the curved edges of the S7).
After much research, I found the amFilm glass protector was one that was listed in many top-10 lists as being excellent. This covers the entire glass but gives room on the edges for cases. My wife has a Speck Candyshell case for her phone and the screen protector works fine with it. My only issue with it is that on the top and bottom (which is fully protected), it's colored. So you have to choose the correct color based on your phone (black or gold). I don't understand why it has to be colored. Why not make it all clear so you can see the actual color of the phone? But it DOES cover the entire screen unlike the earlier brands that came out. And it was very easy to apply and there are no bubbles at all. Touch response is excellent from what I could tell. I tested it and couldn't find any "soft" or "blind" spots that didn't react and I just lightly touched, so it was pretty good. I'll wait and see how it goes with my wife after she's had it for awhile. It also comes with a lifetime warranty for the purchased product. That means, and they state this in the documentation that comes with the protector, that the warranty does NOT apply to a warranty replacement item. So that means, if you've swapped out your initial purchase with a warranty item, you'll have to purchase a brand new screen protector to get a lifetime warranty again. That is pretty standard across most things like this, so I have no complaints.
Here is the gold colored one that I ordered and installed since she has a gold S7:

So that means, if you've swapped out your initial purchase with a warranty item, you'll have to purchase a brand new screen protector to get a lifetime warranty again. That is pretty standard across most things like this, so I have no complaints.
Here is the gold colored one that I ordered and installed since she has a gold S7:

Thanks for such a detailed review. There are many protector glasses of that sort available in India, all of them are manufactured in china, but not the brand which you have mentioned. The reviews of the chinese one's is pathetic. So, I didn't go for them. Can you please check and confirm whether the phone fits fine in Gear Vr with the protector that you have installed or not?
This one, though its for the Edge model, looks tempting but I will wait for an early bird's review before ordering the one for the non-Edge version which should be available by tomorrow-

Screen's Lack Of Scratch Protection

I don't know about you guys, but I have to say this is the easiest screen to scratch of the g series phone since at least the g2. Has anyone else noticed this? I have a bunch of small scratches on the edges on the screen on the left and right that are small but noticeable.
Just check cos mine came with a screen protector on so if yours is the same then it's just that getting scratched.

I got mine and ripped the transportation foil of and installed the spigen Steinheil Screen protector. And stuffed it in a rugged armor case. I want my phone to be safe

Under the foil there is a factory fitted screen protector, on mine at least.

Same here, mine came with a screen protector already installed... I ordered mine online so the same day I pretty much ordered an Urban Armor Gear case, so I had that pretty much a day before the phone arrived from Koodo.
The only thing I've managed to scratch is the glass by the LED Flash on the camera, light scratches that may or may not come off with a buffing. I keep on touching the camera instead of the fingerprint sensor, if I grab the phone the wrong way... so I clean it with my shirt or hoody so that's probably where the scratches are coming from.

As others have pointed out, you must have left the plastic coating on the screen. Gorilla Glass 3 is not easy to scratch.
Not to be fasicious here but I would know if the screen protector was on the phone due to the sheen and raised edges. Definitely not that. The screen itself is fine, it's just the small bezel spaces around the screen that scratch easy

LOL, I hear you OP. I don't know how anyone could have a screen protector on their phone and not know. I don't use screen protectors because to me they always look terrible and are uglier then a few tiny scratches that I can barely see (which on my last 2 phones that are always in my pocket I have had 0 scratches). I just inspected my G6 and I don't see any scratches on the front. I think the whole front is covered by GG 3 which is strong against scratches.

Generally I agree, but the tempered glass protector is nearly impossible to notice. Clear, good coverage, and feels like original glass. Not like the plastic protector at all. I'm pretty rough on my phones and would really like to keep the phone in its naked form, but I don't want to risk it.

I have got plastic factory protection screen on that has barely any scratches.
Using the factory plastic screen for 2 weeks and surprised at how well its holding up to be honest
There TGSP are really nice. Just like using the original screen. Inexpensive too

Also, My G6 only came with what appear to be factory protection plastic, at least that is what it seems like to mesince it has a little white tab to remove it with and the phone did not come in a plastic sleeve, which is common these days.
On my V20 I left the factory protector on and it held up well
I received mine with a glass screen protector pre-applied which is nice to have. I have the 64GB/Korean version (LG-H870DS)

I know it's been awhile since you posted this message but I would like to know if you still have your phone. if you do I'm having the same problem right now I have a lot of tiny scratches on the edges of the front screen, the screen itself is not scratched deeply or noticeable at all when you turn on the display you can only see it on the edges when the screen is off and I have checked and I can't see any screen protection pre-installed on the display as some people have said. has anyone figured out why does the front screen scratches so easily my phone is the Korean version H870DS, it came sealed and i peeled the plastic protection as soon as I unboxed it ( phone is 2 weeks old) and has lot of scratches on the front and none on the back or Lensens
I had a Xperia Z5 previously for a year which i used with no case and no screen protector, barely got a scratch and i definitely treated it worse than my new G6

I received the exact same version of the phone from amazon about 2 weeks ago and I've got a lot of scratches on the front screen, how did you figure out yours came with a tempered glass pre-installed? I've checked on mine and I cannot see Any Factory screen protection, however the box came sealed and only had a plastic cover that obviously was only meant for shipping

Mine fell off from the 4th floor (to the pavement) and not even a single scratch.
I was holding my nexus 6p in one hand and the G6 in the other. I accidentally dropped the nexus (the metal back) onto the G6's screen, then it slid off onto the couch. Just from this, there are lots of tiny scratches on my G6.
