Software Update Failed, requires Factory Reset - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have a Honor 9, which tried to do a software update last night and I don't think there was enough free memory to perform the task. My phone is stuck in eRecovery mode and wants to perform a factory reset, but i don't want it to. Is there a way to get into the phone and delete some files or transfer them to allow it to download the update and install? I don't understand why it could not check available storage before performing the task....
Thanks,
Ewan

I should have mentioned the pone only gives me the following options:
Download latest version and recovery
Wipe data/factory reset
Reboot
Shutdown

[Q] Pantech Discover P9090 - Unable to Factory Reset (Encrypted)

I have a Rooted Pantech Discover P9090 with ClockworkMod 6.0.2.8 recovery from Here. After which I proceeded to test out the phones "secure" (encryption) features. Now that the phone is encrypted, however, I cannot remove the encryption because I can not perform a factory reset. When attempting a factory reset from within the UI the phones attempts to reset as normal but at the point where the phone turns off and comes back with the android screen and a loading bar at the bottom the phone restarts. Doing a factory reset from the recovery fails do to not being able to load /data, /system /sdcard. Is there anything else I can try/do?
Other info:
Android Version 4.0.4
Still nothing.
Update 1: Flashed over to JB in hopes that it would help. Nothing. Still looking for solutions.
Does anyone have any of the stock files. Hopefully the recovery.img for this phone?

[Q] Bootloop after flashing stock ROM via Odin. I think I've tried everything.

The Wifi on my phone wasn't turning on, even after factory reset, so I reflashed stock ROM via Odin (v3.07)
I got stuck in a bootloop, and after factory reset via the stock recovery + wipe of cache partition, it was still stuck.
I then re-flashed the stock ROM. Still stuck.
Tried using Kies 3, with the firmware upgrade and installation tab. Said something about not supporting my phone when I was prompted to plug it in. (SM-G355H; Samsung Galaxy Core II Duos)
I then found an unofficial version of CWM v6 for my phone (there's no official support), and quickly flashed that (via Odin 3.09; which is what I use from this point on), forgetting that my phone was no longer rooted. I wiped davlik cache and data. Still stuck. Then I rooted my phone. Stuck.
Then I reflashed stock ROM (this time, I downloaded from another website) (to test my luck, I tried seeing if simply a factory reset and cache wipe would work. It did not) rooted my phone, and flashed CWM. Wiped davlik cache. Still stuck.
By the way, when I wipe davlik cache it says:
Warning: no file_contexts
E:unknown volume for path [/sd-ext]
Davlik Cache wiped.
Any ideas on what to do now? I can't send it to a manufacturer / repair store where I live. I'm thinking maybe I should untick Auto Reboot and/or F. Reset Time when flashing, use an earlier version of Odin or the ROM itself, or maybe there is something I can do with ADB? I'm not very familiar with it, but I'm more than willing to learn. I just need some direction...
I was just trying to fix my WiFi... :crying:
Update: Flashed with Auto Reboot unticked. Still in bootloop.
Alright, I fixed it by using Kies, via firmware upgrade and installation. You have to ignore where it says that your device is not supported, and just leave it to download. If you get stuck on the setup screen like I did, try cache wipe + factory reset. If it doesn't work flash an earlier version of the firmware. You might be using the wrong region (It's not always your country), use Kies to check. When it tells you what pda/ modem / csc it wants to update the region will be in parentheses ( eg ACR). Use all of them possible

[Q] Factory Reset in download mode vs. TWRP Factory Reset (Wipe)

Factory Reset in download mode vs. TWRP Factory Reset (Wipe)
What are the differences between them? I feel like I experienced different results between the 2. for example, I had no data and phone signals for the last few days and tried TWRP Wipe many times with no avail. Then when i did the factory reset from the download screen it seemed to fix the issue. This could all be a coincidence and probably is.
I thought that since I have a custom recovery the factory reset in the download screen does not do anything different than the TWRP one. I'm sure I'm wrong. Enlighten me please.

Bricked Samung Tab E Verizon

Hi all,
Sigh. So it looks like I bricked my Samsung Tab E Verizon. I rooted it with King root and when I removed it, it is now in a endless boot loop. I've tried all sorts of things to try and recover it.
I used SkipSoft to set it up to be flashed but odin fails everytime. I was using the new ROMS found on this Forum. I've tried putting it into download mode and manually flash it and that didn't work. I can't Re-Root it as it won't stay on long enough to Root and they always fail. Right now I'm at a loss.
Can anyone help?
Thanks.
Do you have custom recovery or default? if you have default you can hold the home button and vol up button then the power button to get into recovery, once your done with that you can wipe cache and reboot, if that STILL does not work then factory reset your phone and re wipe cache, i know losing data sucks but its better then a brick. (this will work 99% of the time because the default recovery automatically re-installs stock rom)
If you have a custom recovery, then i recommend wiping everything including dalvik cache etc, making sure EVERYTHING is squeakly clean (execpt recovery obviously) , and find the driver for your samsung phone and download it on your computer and install, once you are done with that, put your phone into download mode, find your original STOCK rom for your phone, download it and flash it with odin, from there IF successfull you should have a fresh boot of your stock rom, then you can re-root and go on with your day.
Also make sure once you re-gain root access backup your rom so you will always have a plan b if everything goes bad. i cannot recommend this enough, even if you are an expert with flashing, there is always that small percentage things will go wrong and you should always have that backup ready.
Hi!
Thank you very much for the reply. You know, that was one of the things i tried initially when it happened. When I tried it, it wouldn't go into recovery mode. I then went on the odyssey of hell in trying to recover it.
When I read your post I was thinking; "Yeah I tried that", but then I thought I would give it another shot. I went into Factory Reset, it then actually went into the recovery menu. I deleted the cache and set it to data/factory reset and it's still looping. I get an error saying; "E:failed to mount /preload (no such directory)". I then tried to run update from external storage and it's telling me that it's disabled. I tried to update from ADB and it's disabled. I tried to apply from cache and it says; "APPLY_CACHE is depreciated". It's still looping.
Urghhhhhhhhh.......

LG Volt in bootloop. Anyway to access data on the phone before factory reset?

LG Volt LS740. Phone is not rooted, it's all stock.
I can access the screen that says:
reboot system now
apply update from external SD card
apply update from cache
apply update from ADB
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
I can't post a link, but if you go to imgur, you can add this to the end of the url to see the screen: iLR0RL9.png
I tried 'wipe cache partition', but it didn't fix the problem.
I can also access a download mode screen, that just says 'Firmware Update'
Same thing with imgur here: MliSRUh.png
Is there any way to pull the data off the phone, before I try a factory reset? I've been searching and trying things for a few days, and haven't found anything that works... wondering if you guys might know.
Thanks for any help.
