What's the point of AR on mate 20 pro - Huawei Mate 20 Pro Questions & Answers

Just wondering what the point of the AR is on mate 20 pro. Just a couple of faces that move when you move is pretty crap and pointless. Am i missing something that can be done with these things?

My dad with the Hulk yesterday lol

Yes I have done that but why didn't Huawei build something decent in is what I'm saying. I just don't understand what the point of those animated face things are if you can't actually use them for anything.

I would suggest you ask that question to Huawei.
There have been numerous gimmicks implemented on devices over the years and I would put it down as one of them.

I like this so much I put $20 into it. Deal is if it doesn't fund you get your money back, so it's not much of a gamble. I'm not suggesting you do, that's your decision.

Long way to go to get to $150k.
Hate to slam this, but there are like 100 Siri clones in the market.
Some are pretty good.
And didn't google hire the Siri developer from Apple last year?
Moving this to the right section......themes and APPS....
On another note what's so different about this from the countless others in the android market already?.....like iris, jeannie,...?

Sorry about that Slaughter, it was late. Check it out . We currently have nothing even close. This guy seem to be on the right track for sure. Did you take the time to fully read the guys credentials & watch the demo. Seem like this thing is a lot more sophisticated than anything out there now, i like it. Maybe Google will buy him out. One can only hope. Would love to see Apple get blown out of the water. This post wont get any coverage back here any chance of moving it back ?

i skimmed it...still there are a few apps in the market that do a ton if not all of what siri can do right now...
as for moving it back, im going to have to deny that as it doesn't make sense to put it up in general when its app related and doesn't really warrant the need to get huge coverage at this point anyway...If this thing starts to gain traction or become some kind of big huge event then maybe...
but for now app/theme talk is what belongs in this forum, so itll stay here in the mean time...

Judging from the video, this software is way more intuitive than any of the current voice apps. I'm using Speaktoit Assistant and Vlingo right now and they work pretty good, but you have to learn what to say to get it to do what you want.
In this video, the software seems to actually "know" what you mean and what you might mean and convey it back to you in a true conversational tone. In addition, it can differentiate between your "message" and "command" words intutitively.
Looks pretty impressive to me compared to what's currently out there. This seems to be actual AI instead of pattern or keyword recognition used in Vlingo or Speaktoit.
I'm in.

Yeah, I prefer Assistant by speaktoit for Jeanine type functionality. It works pretty well conversationally.
I can't remember why Jeanine didn't work that well for me. Not sure if you watched the SILVIA video or not but it appears to be much more intelligent with seemingly highly advanced memory and cognition.

I donated $20. Figured why not, I like the fact that it let him build on the outgoing SMS. Wish it would have shown up the message it sent, to see how good it was at putting his words down. Whenever I use a assistant app it always gets a extra work in their -_-
So when you make the $20.00 donation, you'll receive the app when est. release? Or do you get it now, then updates?

According to the kickstarter page, if the project gets funded, estimate release date is Dec 2012.

Phuture of Phablets

I've come from the Sony Ultra... Fantastic 6"4 screen device (says the no flash camera). Best hardware ever on that device.
But Sony is not following up with an Ultra 2.
I have been forever riding the high end of large screen devices searching for the complete converged device...no tablet+phone. I want it all in one device.
Huawei is an emerging force in the western market and have stated it as a company focus. .
I decided to try their MediaPad and Mate2..despite the step back in specs.
I as U probably are, was completely unexpectedly pleased with the device and with the setup of the US store I am Huawei fan at this point.
As you can see with the MediaPad, they're not afraid to throw anything at the market. I like that. They like marketing jargon like testing the 'extremes' of the technology. I like that.
I'm very much looking forward to the Mate3...and what followup they have in store for the MediaPad.
My concern is that unlike Samsung they are still very much an Asian-centric company....and that there doesn't seem to be much impetus to update devices once they release them.
I'm concerned about what for sure will be a problem getting a stable of developers remotely interested in working on these. We're going to HAVE to get our devices into their hands.
Here's to our community being the first on the hopefully burgeoning Huawei presence in the US market.
THey have stated that mission directly, btw and their success in the Asian market has me on their bandwagon!
I'm sure development would take off if we get root; the thing about root is that it seems a bounty would be necessary so that a developer could help us. After that, I'm pretty sure we'd start to get custom ROM's and more activity on these forums.

Anyone know if there Is there root for the Mate 2 MT2L03 yet?
I'd love to try to push SU to the device through adb.exe.... Like in the Mate 1
After getting the Mate2, I have come to the conclusion that "high end" specs are pretty much a waste of money. Benchmark scores are just that, scores. In day to day operation, they really don't mean a lot. The mate2 is without a doubt, one of the underdogs of 2014. The #1 thing I like about it is I can go days without going anywhere near a charger. My older device, with a new battery? I couldn't muster 1/2 day out of it.
The mate2 "only" a 720p screen is crisp & clear for me, and with it not being a 2k screen, the GPU doesn't have to work as hard and, you get even better battery life. The snapdragon 400 is more than enough for heavy use of phone, email, web browsing, mp3 playing, video, text.
Unless you are really into 3d games, the "midrange" devices are the best bang for the buck out there.

What's the deal with the hands ons?

All the hands ons seem very similar due to what seems to be excessive limitations. This close to launch and Google seem to be being quite secretive considering they've already had their announcement - is it possible there are more surprises for the tablet and Lollipop being held back?

Waste of time ir blaster never used, always busy flashing new ROMs could not be bothered to setup again. I also think there is a few hidden surprises.
hands ons seem to be limited to a few minutes, all seem to point out the same thing, as if there is a google rep sitting behind of camera - whom dictated before the hands on what is off limits at this time.

I also get that sense to lol, I personally think Google have instructed short and brief video reviews, And also have to be filmed within a restricted amount of time. So I guess will have to wait for the tablet to be fully released before we get an in depth review, by then for most reading this it will be to late because it will be already in our hands! [emoji12]

exactly, most of us here have pre-ordered based on specs and previous know how relating to the nexus program. The hands-on at the moment are just satisfying our enthusiasm for the device. For people already on the fence about the product, they wont generally pre-order anyway so the real hands on will be more crucial for them when time comes.
Its because its still running pre-release software and Google doesn't want the first batch of reviews/benchmarks to be based on an un-optimized OS giving the Nexus 9 a bad image before its launch.
Expect a software update right before the official release of the Nexus 9 followed by lifting of the embargo and a flood of benchmarks/reviews coming in.

None of the hands on seem to be showing how the device sounds like. With the boomsound speakers, i thought it would be one of the biggest selling points. I guess this is part of the limitations they impose on these jounalists. Also, it seems like none of them were signed on to a Google account or had any wifi connection so its not like they can just go to youtube and play a video.

It really is quite bizarre, Liam Spradlin on G+ said that they were "not allowed" to show anything in depth, there must be something held back (I hope).
Android central podcast on Fri said be patient, they will have reviews, and "without violating the embargo, except a couple of surprises.". We haven't seen everything yet apparently according to them.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Free mobile app
I am sure the reviews are being written/video'd right now, same as with previous releases.
And as before, most reviews will be released around "Something O'Clock" and a couple will come out a few hours early (Woops !).
And they may say "Review based on the final pre-release of Android, but not much is expected to change".
It's pretty simple why.
Google imposed the following limitations on videos :
Unboxing video : OK
Quick overview : OK
Device review : NO
The limitations are in place until the 12th November.

A rep is something you have earned. Huawei hasn't earned anything as that's unfounded; how convenient! When you factor in Huawei's current might and abilities in contrast to the US counterparts (and I'm not talking Apple (because, as we all know, Samsung is Korean, but I'm thinking more like Qualcomm, at&t, etc (each in its respective covered fields)

Question Fit for purpose

Hi, with all the problems of the pixel 6 /pro l was interested in people's opinion on if these phones are fit for purpose?
For me yes. I did not get the problematic december update so i don't have any problems with signal. Camera is great (especially the raw files) and generally i am happy with this phone. when bugs are fixed it will become even better.
