Unlocking phone without losing data - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello to all,
i have an xperia z3 compact and i left it out of use for a while due to broken screen, i finally changed the screen but realised that i have forgotten the lock pattern.
Any way to unlock it without losing my data in the internal memory?
If it helps and if i remember correctly,
1) i had usb debugging and developer options enabled
2) i haven't rooted it (for sure).
3) phone has kept the credentials for my wifi, gmail, etc, so it's connected when i turn it on (and of course i have those credentials).
4) it probably has android 6 (marshmallow) installed.
5) i tried with "find my device" from google, and while it sees my phone, it says "Find My Device is turned off" so the option for locking it anew is greyed out and i can't access it, so this method doesn't work.
Any ideas? is it possible to bypass the pattern and get inside to get my stuff and apps?
thank you to anyone reading this and wanting to help me out.

I don't think that's quite possible. The few ways to bypass the lock have pretty much disappeared with recent Android versions.
Best of luck!

thank you, i'm so frustrated. At first i wanted to save my data and bypass the pattern, now i just want to be able to use my phone again even if i lose the data and i can't even do that!
There is no hard reset for this model!
I just can't believe that there isn't any way possible to get back your phone if you forgot your pattern!
no way to have recovery or TWRP in a locked phone with usb debugging on?
no way to push adb commands?
There should be something for situations like that

Galaxy Note 3 - Restarts when trying to Encrypt

Hi,
I did a bunch of search strings on here and Google to try and find a solution to my problem to no avail. I really hope you guys can help.
My device: Galaxy Note 3 - N900W8 - Rooted and Unlocked (RegionLock Away 1.3)
My Problem:
I'm trying to connect the device to my works account via Exchange ActiveSync. My company forces encryption on the device as part of the setup processes. When I try to Encrypt the device (Fast Encrypt or not) it shows the Encryption Android dude (Green) as if it's going to start and then the phone just turns off and reboots.
Any ideas what the issue could be? Is it possible that because the phone is rooted, the security settings that my works places on it doesn't like it?
Thanks.
H
Hi, I was experiencing the same thing, I was playing with the encryption and now my lock screen pattern and pin is not an option anymore and I have to use the encryption password, when my device is not even encrypted! I cannot decrypt because every time I go into the Encrypt device option, It goes back to rebooting just like you mention. Anybody can help?
Thanks,
T2

Lock screen Not Changing from Swipe

In order to sync with my work account, I need to have my Lock Screen enabled with either a pin or a password (NOT swipe).
Whenever I select PIN, it asks me to input the pin and confirm, which I do - but when the screen exits it still has Swipe as the selected Screen Lock setting. Same happens when I try to set a Password.
I tried to boot into Safe Mode (hold vol dn while booting) and that had the same results. I tried rebooting a couple times, no dice.
Has anyone else had issues setting a Screen Lock!?
Additional Info:
I recently upgraded to NC5 with Root via Surge1223's method with a MK2 bootloader from the link below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2726868
Additionally, I tried removing my work Google account completely, and uninstalling the Google Apps Device Policy application. When I go back to Settings>Lock Screen>Screen Lock: The only selectable options are PIN and PASSWORD - which is what I would expect if my device policies were still activated. The other options like Face Unlock and Pattern are all greyed out with the phrase "Turned off by administrator, encryption policy or credential storage.
Ugg. This sucks! My next option I guess, unless someone knows of a work-around, would be to completely reflash the phone again. Just annoying.

So I went ahead and Factory Reset and Flashed the NC5/SU/Update-through-odin again.
And the options are still greyed out!
I'm thinking something is left over from the first time I encrypted my phone before I originally flashed the referenced updates the first time.
Can someone help me completely reformat all of my partitions? How can I completely get rid of any residual encryption?
Found some details saying that the wipe within Safestrap/TWRP doesn't always work correctly.
*Booted into Samsung Recovery (stock version)
*Wiped Factory Reset
*Wiped Data
*Wiped Cache
*Attempted to install the NC5 update through Stock Recovery - got errors saying the footer was wrong plus some extra stuff, but the phone reset.
*Quickly held the buttons to get into Download mode (was worried about losing root)
*Attempted to boot into Safestrap recovery but went into normal boot (didn't get the option)
*Phone boots but Pin/Password are still the only options (and won't engage either; Swipe always stays engaged)
*SuperSU still installed (???) If I did a full wipe, and never reinstalled, how is that possible?
A helpful XDA user pointed me towards this:
=====================================
Change the following in build.prop found in system folder using a root explorer app. Es file doesnt seem to work so try another.
security.mdpp=none
To
#security.mdpp=none
================================
This fixed my inability to get the pin/password to be selectable (and allowed selection of all other options as well)
However, whenever I select device encryption again, I simply get a big green Android encryption screen, and the phone goes black, then resets.

Secure boot confusion

Hey hey,
I have a problem with the encryption on my ROG Phone.
Whenever I get a new device, one of the first things I do is to enable the requirement of a password before booting.
This worked for a while but is now miraculously disabled with apparently no way of enabling it?
Before I could only see a black screen where I was prompted to enter my password. Nothing else worked, which is desired.
Now after having changed exactly nothing myself it boots completely on its own without the need of a password and then asks for one to access the phone.
I feel that this is a security risk. Any know ways of fixing this except for a factory reset?

Question Odin says pass but no changes

So i'm trying to remove a google account from this device. Tried all ways and is still asking for the same thing - account previously used on the device to continue.
The tabled was setup by somebody and eventually lost access. Tried to factory reset it but no luck. FRP enabled.
Is there something i am doing wrong maybe? Thank you!

It's hard to advise since you haven't said what exactly you're doing.
The more detailed you describe, the easier it will be to help you.
FRP can only be removed on a running system, not by flashing the firmware.
I am trying to remove the FRP.
I thought with the firmware i could reset the tablet.
So i have lost access to the synced account basically. I am trying to bypass the security. Tried to recover the password for the google account but since it was a new tabled with a new account i have not so many informations to be able to recover it.
I have also tried the method with Alliance Shield but i can't access Google Play neither.
Have you unlocked bootloader? It's there in the developer settings as "OEM Bootloader Unlock"
I cannot trigger developer mode. Tried but no luck. No message apears when i tap Build Number or any info about the device.
Are you sure you did it right? You are supposed to tap 'build number' seven times, because tapping once will not help. You may already know the above fact, though
Edit: Spelling error.
I did. Nothing happens. Tapped several times but nothing pops up. I am an apple user this is my cousin's tablet received as a gift this Christmas. He is only 9, tried to set it up himself with the help of another cousin....They forgot the password and tried to factory reset it after.
Also, there are quite a few videos about disabling FRP, have you tried them out yet?
Yes i did ... no luck ... I am taken to different not-so-trusted websites with unknown programs (potentially viruses).
Just found this here where it says to clear cache partitions:
Developer Mode Not Showing
I have the SM-N9600 model on TMO, running 8.1, and not rooted. I tapped the Build Number repeatedly to turn on Developer Mode, and I accessed it the first time, but now it's not showing up anyplace. Also, when I try to redo it again, a little pop...
forum.xda-developers.com
Please try it out as I don't have a physical tab on me. I am sure it will not remove data and such, so feel free to do so. You can access it by booting into the recovery options.
It also says that you can alternatively "Place a Nova Activities widget on your desktop, then, take a look around in the Settings section of the widget, see if there's something for Developer Options."
I did clear the cache several times. Factory reseted the phone also but no luck.
Is it possible for you to use ADB instead of using Odin? I am not sure if it will allow you to pass through without oem bootloader unlock enabled, but it's worth a try.
You also should remember to install adb platform tools and also install samsung dev drivers.
ADB not working neither.
I think I know exactly what is the issue either you should downgrade to FW patch prior feb 22 since KNOX doesn't allow to run developer option unless work environment is set-up. In those upgrades you can use Talkback for FRP bypass.
You can try pro disabler method to enable knox and get developer options then from there.
After disable knox https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...ite-emergency-call-factory-test-mode.4502277/
@Abish4i so if knox is removed, dev settings are also removed? Could you please explain it to me if that's fine by you?
Once you get Knox verification done Developer options are enabled by system. You cannot remove knox without adb unless using Root.
When i try to install any apk the settings crashes. I don't think there is any hope for this device ...
Is it organization owned? What is your current FW patch?

Question LOCK SCREEN/CODE MALFUNCTION - NEED HELP TO RECOVER DATA WITHOUT CODE OR FACTORY RESET!!!

I have a Motorola G Power (2021) that suddenly rebooted, without warning. When it powered back on the lock screen would not accept the PIN code that I have always used. I know that I am definitely using the correct code but something glitched and now I am locked out of my phone.
Doing a factory reset is NOT an option because my only recording of a loved one's voice/our final conversation before her death is on a file on the phone. So I cannot and will not do a factory reset to skip the code, or I lose that file.
I could easily transfer that file to my laptop via USB first and then do a factory reset, as everything else that matters on that phone – such as photos and videos – is backed up via Google and able to be restored. The audio file is not backed up to Google because it is from an app that does not back up to Google.
Unfortunately, when I connect the cell phone to the laptop, it does not show up because the default setting on the phone when USB is connected is set to charging, not file transfer. To change that setting, I have to enter the lock code... which no longer works.
So, I desperately need help figuring out how to get the laptop to recognize the cell phone and allow me to transfer the audio file off of it, without being able to get through the lock screen to change the USB settings... or how to bypass the lock screen without a working PIN.
I have Android Studio and I know that there are workarounds for phones that have Android Debugging enabled, which mine does. I just need someone knowledgeable to walk me through this.
HELP... PLEASE???
most likely that was only crashing/hot reboot otherwise google backup wouldn't work.
if you cold reboot the phone your files stay encrypted and can not accessed remotely, unless decrypted with lock screen pin.
on the other hand cold reboot might circumvent the deny of correct PIN (in case it was minor issue just caused by crash).
I think it's a patt situation. you will lose all files no matter what you try to get in. I would just do nothing for 24 hours and keep it charged.
if you have usb-debugging authorized you can try to access files from adb. first thing, backup your %UserProfile%\.android\adbkey.pub from all your computers you ever have connected the phone (important)
install usb drivers and download platform-tools, then type from cmd.exe
Code:
adb devices
adb pull -a /sdcard
