Not sure if this is the right forum.
I'm looking for recommendations for a lightweight k low memory) Android chrome alternative. Ideally I'd like to link to Google so I can access recent tabs from other devices, my bookmarks, passwords, history. Those are pretty much the only features I need other than the browser itself.

So I was thinking about Google's I/O keynote recently and I've been wondering why the company is pushing tighter integration of Android with Chrome OS instead of Chrome Browser. The reason I ask this is b/c there's a real opportunity for Google to truly differentiate Android from iOS by making it accessible no matter what type of computer you use. If they only enhance accessibility from Chrome OS then it would be no different than Apple's continuity b/w iOS and Yosemite except that Apple sells a LOT more computers than Google.
Now if Google would have added these features to Chrome browser and we were able to text and/or answer calls from our browser, that would make Android a LOT more attractive as users wouldn't be handcuffed to any specific desktop OS. It would give Google a further reach and would provide those features to Windows, Mac and Linux users as well.
Is there a specific reason why these features (and others) could only be implemented in Chrome OS? I just felt like that was a significant missed opportunity for Google.
Hello everybody,
i just got an acer liquid e700.
unfortunately, there's no cyanogenmod available for it, and scanning this and other android forums i soon realised that, if i use some inoffical rom, i will most probably loose the triple sim functionality.
so, how can i make sure my acer liquid e700 with stock android 4.4.2 kitkat does not call home to google?
it is rooted already.
i do not have a google account, so there's already quite a lot of stuff that wouldn't work anyway and can be disabled/uninstalled: drive, gmail, google (search?), google settings, google+, hangouts, maps, google photos, "play movies & tv", play newsstand, play store.
(that in itself is an impressive list. phew)
however, is that enough? there's still some questionable apps. most of all, acer's own apps.
...before i go into much more detail, maybe some guide is already out there?
bonus if it's for acer devices that ship with their very own brand of spyware.
in the end, i'm not a cryptofreak, but i'd like my phone to be as safe as my linux desktop:
i want to decide who and when uses the network, and i want to make sure that apps don't spy on other apps.
i want to listen to my local (on my desktop computer) music collection without google & the world knowing about it. just an example.
ps:
i'm planning on using f-droid as much as possible.
i read an article on a german android forum that said: things to do BEFORE your android phone goes into the internet for the first time:
http://www.android-hilfe.de/thema/c...es-das-1-mal-ins-internet-geht-afwall.611866/
it comes down to having a working firewall and block everything, before you put data cards in or use wifi.
there's an older article here:

and these were also helpful:

here's a similar thread on that german forum:

Hello,
i use a Samsung Phone. On this Phone, there is a Build-In Browser called "Internet". If i im right, it is a Browser based on Chromium 44. There are some features i like really much on this browser, others are not. So i wonder, if it is possible to combine this features, with some features of Chromium/Chrome to make a Custom Chromium / Chrome Browser? Mostly there are 2 features in Samsungs Browser, i wish to have in such a Custom Chromium: The Use of Firefox Account, to sync Firefox Bookmarks and Tabs also to Chromium on Android and the Fingerprint Sensor, to save Logins to Websites. Is there a way to do this and what do i need? Or is there such a Custom Chromium APK available?
I think you'll need the build-in browser's source
Do you have any idea, where i could get this Sources?
I want to use a Open Source browser with built in dark theme, adblocker and various privacy settings, is fast and get's updated regulary. I've used many alternatives over the years here on XDA, Lightning Browser, Pyrope, and more but they all seem to have been discontinued and not being updated. What is the browser you guys use today and why? I can't find any alternatives here in the forum, more or less everyone is outdated.
First off, I hope I'm posting this in the correct area
This may be a fantasy, but I will state my idea, and if you know any way of making it a reality, OR if it already exists, I would really appreciate your advice & help!
The idea is basically a super lightweight custom ROM that would work (be able to be flashed on) on a lot of different devices. (multiple android phones & tablets)
Preferably, I want it to run on the most stable version of Android
No play store, only a predetermined set of apps to be installed along with the ROM
No stock browser or any native apps that have a browser built-in
Basically, there are a few applications for this product, 2 that come to mind.
The most obvious, Kid friendly - I know about the parental controls available, I want something 'bulletproof'.
To ensure productivity and reduce distractions among employees.
I would also want a browser that is whitelist-based that can have the whitelist updated remotely, every time the browser connects to the internet, (either on startup of the app or in the background) it would check the whitelist and update itself with the new definitions. Ideally, I would want a Chrome-based browser with a built-in adblocker.
I know the lines are blurred from custom ROM to custom apps. I hope I'm not dreaming of a unicorn
(The native apps preferred would be The Camera, Messages and phone apps)
I think what you looking for is "Kids Space" from oxygenOs and colorOs 13. Now even I'm looking for the same for older oneplus devices.
You had any luck with it?
