Hello, this is my first post on XDA
in the "Development" section I've read about a camera mod: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1104051.
It add some good feature to the camera stock app like:
Records Audio in 192kbps/44.1Khz quality (CD Quality) rather than stock (64kbps/16khz quality)
Increased Video Bitrate in 1080 and 720p modes* (See 2nd post for info and download link for this version)
I would to try this hack, but I am confused on witch APK to download and use, the Potatoman and the hyperX-'s release are identical or not?
i believe there is only one mod as of right now. The mod you posted above is based off of the original and does nothing but improve the camera. Safe to say this is THE mod to use my friend!

Thank you!
So I can download the modded APK from here without problems? Is it THE mod?
You can dl it from here or glash one of the fantastic roms that have it included.
Now I am trying to install the camera hack on my phone, I renamed the original Camera.apk in Campera.apk.bak and copied the hacked Camera.apk in /system/app, but when I try to execute it to install, the installation starts but it ends with message "Application not installed", why?
What'is my error?
I use Root Explorer...
You don't have to install it after copying to system/app, just copy, then set permissions correct and reboot..

Thank you, now I try, but witch are the correct permissions?!?
EDIT: I set permissions to rx-r--r-- like the original app, now it seems work!
I recorded a video at 720p with the hacked Camera.apk, I controlled media info with VLC and with Windows Explorer "Property->Details" tab, the value they show are 11880 kbps for the video bitrate and 16 kHz, 60 kbps, mono for audio. I think that there are the value for a video recorded with default app, or not?
Help pleaseee!!!
hey, i am trying to hack my camera too, how do you move the camera.apk to system/app if i have it in my file/download, thanks

You must have rooted your phone and you must use a file manager like Root Explorer!
i know, my phone is rooted and have root explorer installed. But i can't paste anything on system/app from my file/download, i could just move files around in my file

Mount the filesystem in R/W mode (read and write), default setting is RO (read only), use the button in the upper side of the screen.
i know this step, i mean, how do you paste the .apk to system/app from the bluetooth folder in my file? because i use bluetooth to transfer the .apk into my phone, but i have no idea how to paste it into root explorer, seems like i can only move it around to those folders in my file. i know i am such a noob, sorry for asking so many silly questions.

You must navigate throught your phone's filesystem with Root Explorer, find the folder where the file Camera.apk is (I think it is /sdcard/bluetooth) copy the file and paste it in /system/app (all operation of copy/move/paste are possible with Root Explorer).
I hope I help you, I'm Italian and I'm not a native speaker of English...
i am not native english speaker either, haha
i am from Hong Kong
i am gonna try it, but i messed it up this afternoon and i had to reset everything on my phone lol because the camera didn't work
I am on ShishirROM ICS and I really like the Rom over all. However in his latest up date he included the stock ICS lock screen and scrolling wallpaper and I personally prefer the ones from the previous release. I am willing to do the work to revert them to what I want but want to make sure I am on the right track. Is this guide from the walkthrough sticky the correct way to do this (How to manually replace modded/stock system files)? I have both versions of the ROM on my laptop so I am thinking I can pull what I want from one and use the guide above to replace it in the other. Thank you in advance for your help.
Switch the android.policy.jar file and that should give you the old lockscreen.
That's generally all you should do for deodex, so I do not know since his rom is odex.

Bootloop, reflash the rom without wipe.

Not sure why but when I replace the android.policy.jar file and reboot I still have the same lock screen.
what I am doing. Unpack ROM, copy android.policy.jar from laptop to external SD, move file to system, change permissions to match existing file(rw-r-r), confirm permission change, move file to framework, replace existing file OK, back out of root explorer and reboot.
Any suggestions would be appreciated thanks.
(Note: I apologize if i have posted in a wrong forum, so please guide me here, i haven't had the time to read all the rules coz of this problem that iwant to be fix asap. Thanks and Respect)
I have ah CHINA version of Samsung Galaxy Ace s5831i, and because of the chinese apps that i want to get rid off, i flashed my phone to s5830i. (I think i used the files from youtube video. Everything seems to be fine except for the camera which i read one of the common fault when flashing this version but i also read that it can be replaced by an apk file (Which i think can only be replaced when rooted) So here is what i want to ask you i tried flashing it back to stock rom which use a single file from sammobile but i always get this (See attached picture)
Please be kind to help me in fixing my phone through flashing and getting back its camera if possible without rooting/ with rooting. Thanks!

Ok so now your phone is working right ?
So now download Root browser from playstore
Then open it and now go to device /system/Apps / here now find Camera.apk and delete it after that go back to your sd card copy camera.apk and move it to again above location and set permissions on it , they must be look like RW-R-R
Thats it your done.

Yes, its working now. If it's not too much can you provide some links for that -rw-r-r ? Coz what i find is rwxr-x, and also your talking about permissions (Do i need to tick the check box of Read,Write,Execute on Owner lane?)
I apologize for asking too much questions, thank you for understanding

Could somebody provide me with the default "media_profiles.xml" from their /system/etc path? I did something and now things aren't working well.. I was also stupid and forgot to back up my original.
I believe
Code:
adb push media_profiles.xml /system/etc
should work on restoring the file once I have it, right?
Also, on an "unrelated" note, the camera mod from THIS thread doesn't work on our phones.
Here ya go https://www.dropbox.com/s/j0dcrpin5maxwoh/media_profiles.xml
Thanks for the file but it's a no go. I can't replace the file or access any apps anymore. My phone is basically dead.

I replaced the file with one meant for another device, didn't think it would be irreversible. Now I'm trying to reset my phone but keep getting stuck at the Factory Reset Status 2" screen.
I need to install 2 STOCK cameras.
How can I do it. ?
I tried to make a copy of camera.apk (in system/app) and renamed it, but it doesn´t work. I can´t see it in applications.
Thanks
