Mass rooting of Xiaomi devices - Xiaomi Redmi 6A Questions & Answers

Hi!
I was wondering about Xiaomi's rooting policy.
I'm aware that you have to unlock their devices using their software and wait for 72 hours, but I need to know their policy in the subject, is it an automatic process? Do they keep tabs on the amount of phones unlocked in a region, and if so do you need some sort of permission from Xiaomi?
thank you.

and what do you think?
allready running with unlocked bootloader
I just read the other threads (I should have before asking --lol) and I've come to the conclusion that right now, at least for me, it's not worth unlocking yet. Here are my reasons:
1. There are zero development on the Prime as of now, so why unlock besides to void warranty?
2. If you do unlock and knock-on-wood something happens to your Prime before we get CM9 or other roms, what do you do?
3. Unless you're a dev or someone who is fairly knowledgeable/confident in your rom-development skills, what are you going to do with your unlocked Prime?
Are there any advantages I'm missing? I'm not sure if anyone agrees with me, but that's how I feel right now. Note that I am not at all gun shy about dumping my warranty for the real good stuff. Like many here, all Android phones I've ever owned, including my entire family's Android phones and tablets (also my other tablet --a Xoom) are rooted with custom roms and recoveries.
I advised those who don't develop or don't know much about rooting to not try this. There are just too many "what-ifs" against this method. For example, what if someone comes up with a way to unlock that doesn't go through Asus? By some miracle, if that happens, everyone who uses Asus' unlock will have a very iffy device with no warranty coverage whatsoever. Just a thought.

Right this minute, it's not necessary to unlock. However, my guess is that in less than a day we'll have a ClockworkMod version for the prime and you will need an unlocked bootloader to utilize it. This will allow you to make a full backup of your device (stock) and have a good backup plan should you run into issues in the future with an OTA, etc. The roms will be coming very soon.
Video about it is here!

does anyon know yet what "SERVICES" they blocked with the unlock, i read somewhere a LOOOONG time ago that they were going to block certain services when they released the bootloader unlock
If I remeber correctly, you're not able to use google music with an unlocked bootloader, because of the DRM security.

I'm not sure about that since I use it on my Galaxy Nexus with an unlocked bootloader.
ASUS’s reason for locking the bootloader was simply to comply with DRM protected content. Which a fair response. Not really something many of really are interested in any ways with services like Netflix and Google Music though.

Not shure though if they mean with 'comply' if you're not able to use it anymore with an unlocked bootloader.
edit:
Here's some more info about unlocking the bootloader and the DRM content.
Regarding the bootloader, the reason we chose to lock it is due to content providers' requirement for DRM client devices to be as secure as possible. ASUS supports Google DRM in order to provide users with a high quality video rental experience. Also, based on our experience, users who choose to root their devices risk breaking the system completely. However, we know there is demand in the modding community to have an unlocked bootloader. Therefore, ASUS is developing an unlock tool for that community. Please do note that if you choose to unlock your device, the ASUS warranty will be void, and Google video rental will also be unavailable because the device will be no longer protected by security mechanism.

Does this wipe the tablet like when unlocking the nexus?

since some people don't do research
please before you start.. and if you have root
Code:
adb logcat > output.txt
when all **** is done, please upload it to a pastebin or send it to me in a private message..
p.s. you can do this when you have adb set up or in the terminal from the device itselve.
Cm9 is booted on the Device!
Now a little waiting for the custom roms and probably a proper dual boot solution with windows just for the hell of it. Things are looking great so far with CWR already a go. I love the devs here.
Asus delivers in the end. Cheers.
The obvious question that I haven't seen asked yet...will it be possible to develop a tool to lock your bootloader again? If the bootloader can be unlocked with an apk file, there should at least be hope to lock it again by reversing whatever the apk did.

Introduction and Help unlocking Samsung Galaxy S model Bootloader

Hello everyone, I am ne to the site and forums for Android software development. I have always wanted to explore Linux OS systems and devices for quite a while but never seemed interesting and now I see that it is very valuable to know and understand. I consider myself a tech but mostly for PC, I hold an AS on Computer Electronics and current going for my BS for IT in Cyber Security and Linux pops up. I want to root my phone but it turns out that the bootloader is locked and I was wondering if I can get some help from you fellow experts. The phone is a Note 4 from ATT with android 5.1.1 installed. Is there any hope for me or can there be a solution. Thanks in advance....
Unfortunately, the chances of the bootloader getting unlocked is slim to none. The phone is close to 2 years old and no one has figured out. The people that might have the knowledge or motivation to figure it out have most likely moved on. They don't even have root yet, much less the bootloader being unlocked. For future reference, if you want to learn about modding android devices, stay away from VZW and AT&T phones. They specifically ask the manufacturers to make it more difficult to mod their phones. Sometimes there are ways around it, a lot of times there is not.

Can I unlock and relock H850?

I want to unlock the bootloader of my G5, but I am scared a bit of voiding my warranty if some problems come up in future (it's only been a bit more than 24 hours with G5). I've heard of unofficial way of getting the unlock code and I've heard stories of people relocking their bootloaders, but I am not sure.
So, if and how can I relock H850 bootloader?
And where can I find that unofficial way of unlocking it? (I know that it costs some money. However, google didn't help me.)

There is no unofficially way to unlock the bootloader, when You ask for the unlock.bin to LG the warranty you'll lose the warranty, so even if You relock it (which is possible) LG will anyway know trough the device id and the imei which Smartphone are locked and which are not.
They cannot void your warranty just based on the fact you requested the unlock.bin
As for how to unlock there is plenty of information about it in threads here, just read it. As for an unofficial way of unlocking - the fact that you couldn't find anything in google leads me to believe it either does not exist or is a recent discovery in which case I'd wait since it will find its way here sooner or later once it's validated.
I remember browsing through reddit and xda three days ago and in some thread people were discussing the ways of unlocking G5. One person said that if official way doesn't work (because only h850 is supported on LG website), you can buy unlock *stuff* (file or code, I don't remember) on this other website for 1.99 or 0.99. Others said they will try and after trying they were really happy because it worked.
I'm not sure where it was, but I think it was on XDA. Could it have been removed by mods?

This in theory, the practise is different, there are reports on both cases in xda, so it's better to report the worst case.

There was nothing like this on xda, maybe a simple thread where users tried to find a different way to unlock the bootloader

I believe that you are new here and don't know that the huawei phones would not enable us to install stock roms and we are not able now to unlock the bootloader anymore for free lol.
So there is no custom roms dear
Wtf how am I supposed to unlock the bootloader then I need more information quickly so I can cancel my purchase. Is it impossible to unlock bootloader now

Depends on your firmware. If Security Patch is June or later you won't be able to, at least not if you're on C432.
If you are on security patch may or earlier you will be able to use HCU client to get unlock code, but it's paid.
I can only confirm that it's not possible to get unlock code on C432B145+, I can't confirm for other cust but it will most likely be the same.
Edit: if it's a brand new phone it will likely come with factory firmware, unless the shop you bought it from updated it.
Even if I was able to unlock think it's likely that development will be very limited would I be right in thinking this.

I wouldn't say "limited" it depends what your looking for, obviously the best device development is for OnePlus and Pixels imo, but we still have RessurectionRemix, LineageOS, CarbonROM & OmniROM, that's 4 pretty recognisable ROM's :good:
Link to ROM's : https://openkirin.net/download/
To be honest, I had my first Mate 10 Pro rooted, and apart from an Ad blocker and YouTube Vanced there wasn't much I felt any need to install. Now Vanced can be installed without root, and Ad Blocker can run on various browsers, I don't see much point.
The Mate 10 Pro is a brilliant phone, I'm seriously considering selling my S9+ and going back to the 10 Pro - the battery life was far better, and I think the camera was better. I also hate the bent sides on the screen on the Samsung. Only thing I might missis Samsung Pay, but I'll just go back to contactless card.
Thanks to you guys and some further reasearch i was able to reach out to the person on ebay i had bought the phone from and cancel the purchase after explaining the situation with bootloader. I am still reeling from Huwaweis decision to stop bootloader unlocking and hope they one day reverse this decision. I really had my heart set on the mate 10 for obvious reasons but possible lack of bootloader unlock is just a no no for me on my current phone a xiaomi mi6 i regularly change roms and kernels sometimes twice a week so i certainly could not live with being stuck on Mui with no possibility of modifications xposed etc. And i did not want to take the risk of buying to only find out that the bootloder had been patched or something and id be stuck.
So now i have turned my attention to either the oneplus 5 or perhaps galaxy s8plus. Again thanks for your help guys.

Should I give up on project Treble?

Hello, I bought a Honor 10 COL-TL10 version, after Huawei stopped giving codes for unlocking the bootloader, therefore, I don't have twrp, root and I see complicated to have any Treble rom on this phone (I don't like very much emui) and I don't see many development on Honor 10. Should I give up? Or do you think there is any hope in the future?
Ps. I came from a OnePlus 5, and still have it, and it has way more development, but I'm not completely comfortable with the big size of that phone; honor 10 it's a little bit more compact and easy to use with one hand. I'm not quit sure what to do.
Best Regards =)!
same problem, I tried to ask for an unlock code via email support but they are refusing to give it anymore. I will try to insist but I have very little hope
Same for me. I'm hoping that third party unlocking programs (like DC-unlocker) will support the Honor 10.
I don't know... Maybe in future but not right now for sure
try to ask by email different customer services in different countries, what was not possible in my home country was possible in Germany for instance
also some people reported success with DC unlocker despite their model officially not supported, so just need someone to try
