As everyone already knew, MIUI 8 is not only available for China Developer ROM, it's not yet available for Global. I was on Global MIUI 7 Developer, I was very curious about MIUI 8. So, I tried to flash it through TWRP. Before I flash, I backed up all partitions on TWRP.
Fast forward 20 minutes, MIUI 8 flashed properly, but I want to go back to my original Global Developer MIUI 7. So, I tried to restore every partition through TWRP with the backup I did. Every partition restored successfully, except "Firmware". It gives error "extractTarFork() process ended with ERROR: 255"
In recovery log, it shows that "tar_extract_file(): failed to restore SELinux context ubject_r:vfat:s0 to file" for a lot of files.
It booted up normally, but it failed to detect my SIM card. Wifi working, just no SIM. Baseband version unknown, can't enter Phone Status, SIM cards & mobile networks greyed out. Phone tells that Can't get valid Device ID (Invalid Device ID: null)
Anyone did experienced this? Any solution?
Use twrp to restore again , this time exclude the firmware partition (restore all other partition except firmware). After the restoration complete , use MiFlashTool to flash back the Miui 7 stable

The official twrp can backup all the partitions.

Flash MIUI recovery zip ..it will be proper. Same thing happened to me with twrp alka , firmware restore fails .so what u have to do is restore everything except firmware and then reboot to alka twrp again , wipe everything except internal storage and flash MIUI full recovery rom zip file.

Sorry, i don't understand. Original recovery is zip file. So How I can use twrp to recover original FW?
After flashing via twrp I was shown /persist error invalid argument . After doing bit of Google I got To know we need to flash persist.img via twrp to get back my camera and sensor working.
When I flash my twrp nandroid backup of old rom everything works..but when I get back to oos3.1.4 error pops.. rom gets booted everything works apart from sensor and camera.
Everytime I do clean flash so plz don't ask me that..

I had the same problem like you and yet can't get back to OOS 3.1.4
That's why I am staying on OOS 2.2.3 forever ... well until I can find a fix...
If you really only need persist.img you can find it in the Mega Unbrick Guides Files although I think this one only works with OOS 2.2.3
Here's the persist.img file from my last nandroid backup. Latest bootloader and all that. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B3KASUh3N9vVbXphYWRGS2xjNVk
It's not an IMG file but you should be able to put it in a TWRP folder and "restore" it.
Actually i solved my problm in same way.. accidently found persist.img in onplus mini tool and everything went smooth..now no issues in any rom.

Well instead of using the Yureka persist.img I am supposed to use the persist.img from the Unbrick Guide, right?
Obviously we have to use files specific fr our device..so download unbrick mini tool package..use that persist.img and flash according to guide mentioned over there....

I've had this sensors problem in my redmi note 4 device, i flashed the fix & it solved all but created a new problem, i can't go back to stock rom.
The "persist.img" file in this fix belongs to someone else RN4 phone. Now I'm stuck with his mi account in my device. It needs his password to unlock. Ur only option is to use custom roms
You can find the persist.img file inside the fastboot zip from here.
It isn't flashed by default with Mi Flash but it's there.

Persist.img file comes with fastboot zip is around 5mb, but actual file size is more than 32mb, i flashed manually the smaller one and phone doesn't boot, keeps restarting in boot logo. I had to flash this sensor fix again to unbrick.

OK bro thanks and what if I flash the persist.IMG from the fastboot rom and not from some others mobile??
Persist.img file in fastboot rom is low in size, below 5mb, if you flash it, you get bootloop. Actual size around 32mb. U can see it in the fix file.
The partition on the phone is 32 MB. If the persist.img file is only 5 MB it could mean that the data inside the partition is only 5 MB, it doesn't have to be 32 MB.
Take the recovery partition for example, it's bigger than the size of the TWRP .img file, but it doesn't mean that TWRP file is corrupted.
However, to flash persist partition you need the unlocked bootloader and a modified fastboot.exe version that can restart the phone in EDL mode, and from there you can flash every partition with MiFlash.
Of course, data size of Persist.img partition maybe only 5mb, but after flashing the that comes with fastboot rom, all i got is an infinite bootloop. Even miflash doesn't flash this partition, I've seen it in miflash log file.
I tried to flash the persist image, but it simply refuse to do it, even with MiFlash (you can enable the flashing of persist.img by modifying the .bat file that MiFlash will use to flash).
As I write on my post above, to flash persist.img you need to be in EDL mode, but I didn't tried it personally, so I don't know if it will cause bootloop even this way (but I read of people resolving problems this way, so I don't think it will do harm).
If you have problems with the sensors of your Xiaomi MI8 (camera that does not open, gyroscope, steps not calculated, compass, face unlock etc.), you probably made trouble with the persist partition, doing a wipe via twrp, or with a simple update through updater.
The problem is of a software nature and very simple to solve.
Install the latest version of TWRP, download: (Recovery-TWRP-3.3.1-2-dipper-mauronofrio.img)
Download the persist.img file, for completeness I uploaded the file together with the TWRP. The persist.img file is the most recent one, is the last update of the global stable miui 11 (V11.0.6.0.PEAMIXM, same for china), download: (persist.img V11.0.6.0.PEAMIXM)
Go to recovery twrp
Flash the image persist.img in the / persist partition.
Make a wipe cache and dalvik.
Reboot.
Now the sensors of your mi8 will come back to work.
I will try when back home, if it works, i'll send u a virtual kiss

TWRP---->install----->install image---->select persist.img----->select persist partition.
If you don't see a persist partition, you must change the recovery.
Use TWRP 3.2.3 0918, you can download it on the first post.

Just a note : your twrp.img cannot be boot. I'll just stuck at first screen with logo. What I did was to flash it into recovery.
For example this command doesn't work with your twrp version in the beginning
fastboot boot twrp.img
But this works
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
then
fastboot boot twrp.img

You must download a fastboot rom for Mi note 3.
Extract it and find a persist.img, next flash it.
thank you for this precious help
So with this Nord device it doesn't have a recovery.img partition. How I installed TWRP... I downloaded a Unofficial TWRP for the Nord off the web N20 . I renamed it to twrp.img . I flashed it to my boot partition.
I didn't think it was gonna work. In regular fastboot I typed. " Fastboot flash boot twrp.img " surprisingly when I hit reboot it booted right into TWRP. GN2200.
I've tried to do it in the past . Maybe I did it wrong . Maybe I flashed the wrong one. Anyhow it flashed , and booted.
Anybody following, if your device is unbricked I would flash it to your inactive slot to test it out. Especially if you don't have access to digital partitions.
twrp is open source official or unofficial. Once it boots right into it, it's OFFICIAL...
Post the link to the TWRP img you're talking about
Okay I will I'll just have to find it. I have it saved on my USB drive if anything.

I can't find the link , but I uploaded it to MediaFire

Once you successfully install orbs Tor torps twerps . Back up all your partitions to a sd car, or the enternal storage if it's formatted. Transfer it to a super computer. Super.emcc.win *rename super.img ... Boot.emcc.win ** Boot.img boot.img . Odm

So yes I had no touch ability on regular recovery mode . Power volume up whatever the combination is . So there are critical partitions I figured out which images were critical. Sparse. The ones tied to the super.img . You have to flash your inactive slot with the critical partitions to gain the ability for touch screen. Cause they touch ability is installed on your active slot. It lets you touch right.
