Hello friends
I wanted to ask something about proximity sensor in Mate 20 Pro. Are your sensors always on like my device.
There is a proximity sensor on front side of mate 20 pro. You cant see that sensors working with naked eye but you can see with another camera. When screen off and device is locked I cant see a difference on state of this sensor its not engaged. When I press power button and screen turned on I see red dot on top of screen (on notch) and it is always engaged while I using phone.
This is the question.
Isnt it consumpting battery and is it normal?
Everything is controlled from proximity sensor is turned of in settings.
What do you think about this is it a bug or is it a normal thing

This is happening to my Mate 20 Pro too. But I am not surprised neither worried as this was hapenning to my Galaxy S7 and my LG Optimus 4x.
It's perfectly Normal, minimal battery usage and prevents unnecessary screen activations in your pocket or while on a call, which results in ear touches.

Hi i finally found the solution and made a video of it on youtube. You gotta de-bloat the battery and performance from the manage app. check the video I've gone indepth regarding it.

Hi I have just got a HTC radar as a company phone and am getting some odd behavior when dialling
Sometimes it works like expected other times when I press call the screen goes off and will not come back on no matter what I do until the other end pick the call up
Now that's not so bad until you call voicemail when nothing makes screen come on ie tried moving away from anything (in case proximity sensor turning it off ) tried the on/off button volume even camera button nothing works so I can't press option 1/2 etc
Only way I can end the call is to remove bottom cap and take sim card out
This happens on around 50% of all calls and is really bugging me , if its connected to a bluetooth car kit ,the car kit can end it ok
Everytime on bt kit the screen goes off with pressing call
Anyone else having this problem?

Do you have a screen protector? If so it could be one of poor quality and is interfering with your screen. Remove it if you got it. Also it can mess up your ambient light sensor/proximity sensor.

Nope I have nothing on the screen its as it came
Have reset device still the same I'm guessing it has a problem , sad to say but HTC aren't impressing me lately even thinking of replacing my sensation with a galaxy nexus soon :-(

I'm having the same issue too. But i do have it all the time, with every single call i make.
Lets test something here:
Grab a flashlight and turn it on
Cover the light sensor in the upper left with your finger and make sure the 3 capacitive buttons light up.
Uncover them
Now shine the flash light directly into the light sensor
Did the lights turn off? If not get your phone replaced. If they did then you or something is covering the light sensor. The light sensor can turn the screen off at around 1".
I wrote to HTC, they replied after 1-2 hours:
"this is a functional problem caused by a sensor inside the phone" ... "if you can please do get a replacement phone if you have just bought the phone"

For me, the light turned off. In fact I do not need to shine a torchlight. If I cover the top part of the display the 3 capacitive buttons light up. If I uncover, the light disappear. Any ideas? The screen is turning off every time I make a call.
That tests the ambient light sensor(s) - most phones have 2 or 3 - but it doesn't test the proximity sensor... (because the button lights should be tied to the ambient).
Either way, I have not heard of this issue, though HTC has pushed out a firmware update over zune for the Titan recently. I'd recommend to check that, and if there is no update/doesn't fix, then replace the phone.

Is my sensor working properly then? I have a screen protector installed. Is that the problem? I have not tried taking off the protector yet.
You should try that. Some cheap screen protectors can mess with it. I know this was the case with some protectors on the dell venue pro early on.

o.0!? The proximity sensor is normally a led rangefinder in the infrared frequencies. Light sensor could cause lots of false positives...
Sent from my SGH-i937 using Board Express
Fixed the problem. You must remove the clear stock screen protector...it distorts the sensor.
I've been saying that all along
I did a test. Peeled off a bit of the screen protector, enough to expose the sensor. Made a call. The screen didn't blank. So it's the screen protector.
Hi guys I have just recently bought a Radar from bay and im having the same problem, but this time there is no screen protector.
If I cant get a refund form the seller, can I get a warranty repair seeing as though im a second owner?
Cheers
Also, always on display turns completely off.
Not sure what's going on here, but it's extremely annoying. If I'm outside at night or in a dark room or area my phone thinks it's in my pocket so the fingerprint sensor, tap to wake, and always on display don't work. I have to press the power button extremely hard to get it to turn on.
Also, not sure if related but when I make a phone call, as soon as I dial the number my screen will turn off completely before I even bring the phone up to my ear.
Any ideas?
Make sure there's nothing in front of the proximity sensor. When that is triggered and it's dark, it disables the fingerprint reader and always on display. I use a Life proof case and when I had a screen protector on with that, it caused issues.
Definitely nothing on it. Not using a case or screen protector.

Download a sensor test app, there are many of them on the play store, check the proximity sensor with one of that apps, if it doesn't work then your g5 is faulty
Sent from my LG G5 using XDA Labs
Also noticed when I cover up the sensor my brightness immediately jumps to 0%. It's no longer a slow and steady drop down to 0, it just immediately goes to 0. Like and on/off switch
Just downloaded a lightand proximity sensor test and it seems to work perfect. So I'm not sure what's up.
OK this is weird, there must be a setting I messed up. My auto brightness jumps from 0% to 51% to 100% depending on the lighting I'm in. Nothing in between and no more smooth transitions.
Looks like my proximity sensor is dead. Tested it through and app and it says "near" and never changes.
sometimes the indisplay Fingerprint sensor stops working at all.
The display wont recognize any touch and stays black.
If i push the Power button it starts working again.
This happens sporadically, 1 -3x a day
Did anyone had the same Problem?
Any suggestions?
Thanks for reading....

I haven't seen this problem. I use face unlock along with it and it usually recognizes my face before I can even scan it.
When the screen is black, you can put your finger on the display and some glowing circle Appears. This does not appear to me at all. The screen just stays Black.
Thx for the information.

Maybe your fingerprints got erased somehow? Does your phone display a fingerpring icon on the screen a second after you turn the screen off?
Sent from my LYA-L29 using XDA Labs
Yes the second I turn if off it shows a fingerprint sensor. Just after a while it won't toggle the sensor if I touch the display. It's like the fingerprint sensor is deactivated. The second I turn the display on manually it appears again.
Hello! I've got the p20 pro and now I'm testing mate 20 pro. Sometimes I'm not able to unlock the mate with my fingerprints at all. Same finger. The p20 works perfect, just touch and unlock. Mate sometimes I have to touch it 3-4 times before it unlocks , sometimes it doesn't unlock at all? Is that normal? The display was exchanged already because of this issue.
I believe you guys are not the only one. This on screen finger print is not reliable. I guess because they are new and will improve over time. Personally I just use face recognition than finger print. They are a lot more faster and accurate to unlock.
I know it's an old thread but it's happening to my M20Pro right now! It's awful! The screen is protected by a tempered glass made by Spigen (maybe this glass has issues?). I reconfigured the fingerprint and I touched almost 50 times until the phone captured the fingerprint! What's wrong with that sensor?!
I had problems with glass protector, if you can get plastic film it is fine, glass you will have problems....this was my finding
Possible brightness/proximity sensor issue

If you still have this phone and problem: I have a P30 Pro, and/but the reason I write here is because our phones share the fingerprint technology, and I didn't find anyone mentioning this problem regarding P30 Pro. So:
I have the same problem - seemingly sporadically the fingerprint sensor (or screen) wont react until I press the power button. Then I noticed that when the brightness/proximity sensor (located near the top right on the P30 Pro, and next (right) to the upper speaker on Mate 20 Pro) was covered, the screen would get unresponsive. I guess this is by design, to not accidently let your phone come to life in your pocket. The problem was/is that the proximity (?) sensor is way too sensitive - any obstruction at about 2 cm (0.8") above the sensor(s) will trigger this behaviour. I also think it can be triggered under other circumstances; I had som weird fingerprint/screen behaviour in a store with a high and very dark ceiling, but I have to test this again, so don't take my word for it.
Anyway - if anyone is having sporadic problems - see if this could be a reason.
Edit: Well, sometimes my screen is just totally unresponsive even without sensors blocked, so ... I noticed it a couple of times after digging my phone out of my pocket, suggesting it could still have something to do with the sensors turning the screen (functions) off. I'll try to see if I can make it behave the same way in other scenarios.
I have also been experiencing similar problems on my mate 20 pro, But mine is more of an accuracy problem. sometimes its on point and registers instantly. and other times it just doesnt at all.
However i have noticed that in extremely bright weather i have more issues, fingerprint doesnt read at all, and face ID is also doesn't. My finger print issues have started only after EMUI 10.1, so i suspect that it could possibly be a software related issue
I have a problem. It's the Nova 5T. It was bought on the of this month and I was not able to follow the situation as it was on Android 9 / EMUI 9.1 or 10.0 because EMUI 10.1 arrived soon! It literally went uodate for an update! I don't even know how I noticed, but there is a problem with the proximity sensor. Namely, when the phone is in a horizontal position, for example on a desk, and a call is in progress, the proximity sensor does not respond, ie the phone turns on the screen regardless of the proximity sensor being covered and in that case it should keep the screen off. In a horizontal position and a little when the phone is lifted, a few millimeters, the sensor does not seem to be covered by a finger, it does not react but the screen is on, which should certainly not happen. I tried with a hard reset but everything is the same. Can you tell me, how is it with you who have this phone? I wonder, is this a possible bug in EMUI 10.1, is it a normal function in EMUI 10.1 or is the proximity sensor on the phone simply broken? In case I do the same only the other way around, then I turn the phone screen towards the floor, e.g. I cover the proximity sensor with my finger and hold the phone horizontally. The phone and sensor respond normally and the phone screen does not light up during a call. Let me note that the proximity sensor in the upright position of the phone, for example when the call takes place and the phone is on the ear, normally turns off the screen and everything is fine. The phone is not as agile as the carousel rotates in different slits, poses and angles to test its correctness, this problem was noticed quite by accident. If someone has this phone, it would be helpful for me to write if it is the same with him or if there is a problem in my phone! I would ask someone from Huawei to answer me. Sorry for my poor English. Thank you
Has anyone noticed that a circular light sometimes appears around the front camera sensor.
It seems to happen me when my face unlock fails to work.
There is no info on this light.
If it is there,
Are there any settings for it ?
It would be good as a notification light
My friend, that is a very good point. I just noticed it myself after your post, never noticed that before. I would be great if it could be used as a notification light.
I haven't tried it but this seems to be a solution which works on another Realme device:
That is to show something is using your camera, it's a new privacy safety feature.
For example if some shady app is recording you that's a way of telling you. Same for the rear camera, it shows a green dot on right side.

I think this light can be used even for notifications like the Redmi K20 Pro phone which has a light on the pop-up camera and I used this phone for a long time. This light looks cool if it is in the Realme GT 2 Pro!
I'm in India and it is releasing on 14th April so I'm still waiting for this phone.
it's just an indicator that tells you the phone is detecting face.
I have a Samsung S21 from my work and that does exact the same thing with the selfie camera. I think it's an android 12 thing.
