I have mate 20x al00 on emui 9.1, must be same as mate 20 pro.
I rooted it. Magisk normally gives root privilege to sd maid and root explorer.
But, can't kill huawei.home.
In sd maid freeze not work.
In root explorer rename of .apk or even whole launcher6 folder, also, nothing! Folder name is changed, but huawei.home still rules...
How to force nova?
Thanks
9,1 by default dont allow third party launchers?
For me its a reason not to upgrade.....
Are you kidding us? No 3rd party launcher?
I've been using LLX since I bought this. It's the only launcher with truly independent portrait and landscape layouts.
Now that would suck

Hi all,
What I want to do: remove all Timescape elements from stock Sony ROM safely (avoiding force closes, not random deletion)
Why: I noticed that a Sony executive announced a week or two ago that their 2013 phones will not have Timescape running through the phone because it did result in performance lag. Instead they will use one app for the same purpose. I want to test removing the lag in my phone by removing anything Timescape.
News on Timescape: http://www.xperiablog.net/2013/01/14/rip-timescape-long-live-socialife/
You need a rooted device and an explorer with root access like ES Explorer in order to delete the apk files in the System/App directory. You can find more information at the bottom of the first post in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546253&highlight=bloatware.
I would recommend not to delete them actually just in case you want something back. In my case I have only change the file extension so the app won't start. For example gmail.apk has been renamed to gmail.apk1
A few months ago I clicked 'allow Facebook to sync with contacts' and similar options, I thought some features were useful. I tried disabling them all today and it has already made a helpful boost in performance. The true test will be a few days performance.
What I did was root my phone. Then I used an app manager that would allow me to disable system apps. That way I could easily restore any app that are really required. Anything with time scape or Facebook got disabled. I also disabled all system apps that were available from the app store.

No need to root. Just goto the app manager and disable all timescape items and anything else not needed.
I rooted and used Titanium Backup where I uninstalled all "Timescape"-related (appr. 5-6 entries...)
Root needed to delete

You still need root to delete system apps. Once you have disabled them and decided that causes no issues, deleting them will free up a little space.
A few days ago I disabled as much Timescape as I could and so far it really does remove a lot of lag. The phone is already usable...
It can be nice seeing friend's Facebooks pictures etc. in your phonebook but the lag is not worth it. :victory:
Hello
I have a question regarding the "pm hide". I know that it can be used to remove bloatware on a non-rooted device.
But what happens exactly under the hood? Is the app disabled? Can it still run in the background andere use resources?
Can this debloating technique have an impact on the speed and fluency of the device?
Thanks in advance!

I don't know about non-rooted devices, but on my rooted device it did strange things.
I wanted to hide some apps from the drawer, and thought it could be useful, but it did a bit more than just hiding from the drawer: the apps hidden with it were hidden from the drawer, yes, but were also hidden from the installed apps list (From settings), from Titanium backup list (they showed as uninstalled), in the store I had the button to install the app, as if it were not there. root browser showed the apk were still present in the /data/app...
One app was a key for the trial version, the trial version still reported as Pro, so in some way it detected the presence of the key. another was a plugin for Tasker, and Tasker said it cannot find the plugin, so there is a no go...
I went back and unhide them all, I don't want to risk an unbootable device.
...... at the expense of bricking in some cases....
in my case the only reason to get root on a device...is to install V4A.... otherwise .... no other use.
To make / restore proper backups with Titanium.

there is no V4A for huawei no 64 bit driver available only JamesDSP
Rooting for me for adaway ,modify the sound, titanuim backup, edit the dpi , remove bloatware
full control for me
Ad blocking is achievable without root. For me, it's a few tweaks here and there like setting dpi and other stuff that is more about little annoyances than major issues.
Edit: so today I finally got around to rooting this thing. I have rooted, installed magisk, and installed xposed. I am really glad I did. Here is what I like so far:
Adaway - because of ads (can also disable ads without root though)
Vanced YouTube (doesn't require root, but worth mentioning)
Persistent dpi change... Smallest width stays at 451 after reboot
Smali Patcher - magisk module to disable flag_secure so I can screenshot anything
I'll add more when I remember it.
I was rooting every phone in the past because it was easy. Huawei is much more complicated and I didn't want to risk and brick the new phone. Now, after four months with Mate 10, I don't miss root, TWRP and custom ROMs because everything works fine out of the box.
Bloatware apps are uninstalled or disabled, depending on app.
I have ads in only one app for home workout, other 50 apps I use are free of ads.
I use Firefox with uBlock Origin add-on and Youtube Vanced, so no ads here too.
Stock Backup app works fine including auto-backup and I don't need Titanium Backup anymore.
Call recording works fine with Call Recorder - ACR app (even on Android 9 Pie) and I don't need the call recording TWRP patch.
That's all.

what do you do for v4a replacement without root?? because..... this is 32 bit 384kHz audio hardware and i think its potential is huge .... but without root.... its not worth it..
Sorry, I don't listen music on the phone.

Rooting for me :
Full control, using Tasker or Macrodroid - control wifi, radio, cellular, screen, battery charging, etc. so many
Adaway - can use DNS66 for unrooted phones
Full Backups using Titanium or Migrate, moving files - Google backup is not so bad these days though
Nandroid Backups - oh yeah, no fear of disasters
Kernel control - Kernel Adiutor, Ex Kernel Manager, LSpeed, etc.
Apps2SD Pro
I don't use custom roms on my work phones, only on phones for fooling around
Anyway, Huawei Mate 10 not too bad at its unrooted stock with some additional apps like Macrodroid, Gesture Control, Nova Launcher, Greenify, Solid Explorer, Smart Touch Pro.
On this phone, it's a good one that I don't miss the root stuff enough (except for Nandroid backups) to pay Funky Huawei to unlock the bootloader. For their price, I can just add a bit more to get a good Xiaomi phone, and can root at will.
So I've bought poco 6/128 and note 5 was given to my gf but there is few things that bothers me.
First of all, when I create dual app, Facebook for example, I will place shortcut on launcher (nova) right? Well, here is the thing. I can't run that dual app and floating error about insufficient privileges will appear. I can run it thru original app (for example Facebook) which will give me two choices: run original app or dual app. From here it can be launched.
I have global version and updated to 10.1.3.0. (9 pkq1. 180729.001). I think it have something to do with Pie update.
So.... I just purchased an M20Pro used, in Korea. The seller said that he bought it in China, but just in case he's wrong, the MODEL # is LYA-AL10.
The first thing and the only thing I wanted to do was set the default launcher to Nova, but when I go to "Settings -> Apps -> Default Apps -> Launcher", no other launchers are displayed.
I then thought about rooting, but it seems like you need an unlocked bootloader. Well, reading online, it seems like Chinese Huawei phones allow this by default, but again, my phone does not show this option in the developer settings.
I've tried ADB commands to "fastboot OEM unlock" to no avail (even though ADB recognizes my device, the process hangs), and I've looked online for around 6 hours to no avail.
Can anyone help me? I just want to either set the default launcher, OR root the phone, OR flash the international ROM (stock firmware). Are any of those things possible?

Have you downloaded and installed nova yet? Or are you assuming that it's pre-installed?

I downloaded it from the playstore. I actually have about 10 launchers now just to see if it was just Nova Launcher that wasnt showing up, to no avail
You are not allowed to change Launchers on the al10 model. The reasoning is that Huawei banned it due to third party vendors opening up the phone boxes and installing malware Launchers loaded with ads and spyware. I don't agree with this but this is what they are doing. I think that they are doing this to force Chinese users to use their crummy launcher.... The only way to change Launchers is to root the phone and install third party ROMs.

I was afraid of that, I guess I will have to wait until Huawei decides to provide BL unlock codes Its a pity because the hardware is Perfect.
LYA-al00 can change the luncher al10 seems like the carrier version so I think you been cheated
I have a Huawei Mate 20 Pro, bought in China. LYA-AL00, version 9.1.0. I can't change the home-screen either.
Apart from that, there are many apps I can't use as the the "Accessibility" keeps turning off automatically for all 3rd party apps. This means I can do 0 customization (unless I want to keep turning them back on one by one all the time).
It is highly annoying on an otherwise great phone. If I don't find a solution to this, I'll go back to Samsung with my next phone purchase.
Is there a solution or a working root for this model?
Thank you for any help out there!
