Is there anyway to disable apps? I remember on my note 9 being able to. Also is there anyway to change the bixby key to another action ?
Disabling apps - If they can be disabled normally then find the app under settings > apps and then click on the disable button. If you can't disable them normally either a 3rd party app can do it for you or else use ADB to disable the app. With the ADB method you need to have it installed on your computer, your phone setup and connected to the computer by USB cable, and the application package name you wish to disable.
The command you use in ADB would be along the following:
Code:
pm disable-user --user 0 {enter package name here}
So to disable the bixby wakeup service you enter:
Code:
pm disable-user --user 0 com.samsung.android.bixby.wakeup
I would suggest you disable apps using a 3rd party app to make things easier and simpler. I would suggest not uninstalling/removing apps via adb. If you remove the wrong thing you could end up creating more problems then solutions.
Remapping bixby key - You can also use 3rd party apps to do this. With the latest release of Bixby you can do this easily.
Open Settings > Advanced features > Bixby Key
Select single press or double press
If it isn't toggled already toggle the option under the single or double press selection you made. Then proceed to tap on the option you just toggled to open a new menu.
You can choose to open an app or run a quick command. Tap the gear icon to make the applicable selection(s)
Alternatively the website below can be used as a tutorial with pictures:
https://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/how-to-remap-the-bixby-button/
Notes: There is a restriction with this option. While it does not actually disable bixby it does allow you to map it to either a single or double press.
Also you can not use a competing voice app when using this method of remapping the bixby key. That being said you can work around this by using an app like tasker which has a "Tasker Secondary" app feature. You create a task in tasker to open Google Assistant (for example) and set this to trigger when the Tasker Secondary app is opened.
I personally use that option with Google assistant since I run tasker for other things as well. I have bixby set for double press, but I rarely if ever use it. Single press launches the tasker secondary app, and holding the bixby button in lets me use bixby voice commands.

Is there any way to remap the four bottom buttons on the Photon to different functions? In particular, I'd like to get rid of the way the long-press search button triggers voice command. (So if I can't remap the button, can I at least turn off voice command?)
Thanks in advance for any help!
Well -- not an answer yet, but I did figure out that you can freeze "Voice Command" and "Voice Search" via Titanium Backup, which will at least keep the prompt from popping up. Better than nothing, I guess.
Either download another app that utilizes the long press on search (like vlingo) to give you the menu of apps the next time you long press OR Menu - Settings - Applications - Manage Applications - tap on Voice Search - Clear defaults (or Clear Data) .
Do you mean that Vlingo always maps the search button long-press to an app menu, or just to set a default action? I did find that freezing voice command and voice search through Titanium Backup at least stopped the voice prompts from triggering...add benefit that it worked for Swype too.
The presence of any another voice-controlled app, like vlingo, makes the menu pop up.
Surprised I can't find anything about this one via google.
Is there a way to add items to the long-press of the search button and/or change the function of the single press.
Preferably, I'd like to change it, so when I single press the search button a shortcut of my choice is launched instead (in my case, a single click to open a Folder Organizer folder).
I have been doing this to launch task manager since long long time
Here is what you need to do:
1. Install launchkey app
2. Launch the app, and select the app you want it to open up
3. Long press search key, and map it to launch key permanently
4. Long press and it will launch the app mapped to launchkey
I found Launchkey this morning, bought & refunded it. When I tried to pick a custom app it didn't do anything at all. Custom menu worked though.
Sadly, even if Custom app worked, they don't allow a shortcut - just apps
Playing with ButtonRemapper (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=850464). Doesn't allow shortcuts either, but at least one can map to Camera or Phone button instead of search. Oddly, mapping it to Phone caused the long press to activate Vlingo (or something like that). Dunno if I'm keeping, but will mess around.
Considering the customization of Android, I'm very surprised the default O/S doesn't let you map the button & long press to anything - or at least an app in the market!
It does; it allows to map based on application that tries to make use of it. On my phone, it was popping up 6-7 options along with launch key, with go sms pro, voice command, voice search, etc being some of them. The app needs to be coded to make use of it. Android supports this feature.
Hi, I'm trying to simulate a long press of the home button in order to launch 'Google now on tap' as my phone (elephone p9000, stock 6.0, rooted) has got rid of the navigation bar in favour of a single capacitive button, which uses the long press function to launch recent apps instead of Google now on tap and I can't find any other way to launch this service. You can bring the navigation bar back but this interferes with other functionality I have set up now. Can anyone please tell me either an app that can run a script to simulate the home key long press or alternatively another way to create a shortcut to launch Google now on tap as right now I'm having to go into settings reactivate the navigation bar, long press home and then deactivate it after. Not exactly streamlined! Thanks for any advice.
Would be great to be able to assign Google now on tap to the fast access Button on the left. I miss it myself and dont want to use one Screen Navigation.

There's actually 2 very straightforward ways of doing this, one of which is I thought I'd tried but obviously not very well. You can launch the Now on Tap feature by assigning it to a gesture in either LMT pie control or another 3rd party app called All In 1 Gestures. If this isn't clear just ask.
Anybody figured this? What would the shortcut show up as using a third party app. I can see Google but how would you access Google now on tap? Doesn't show up as a shortcut.

I provide here this basic app to toggle flashlight from vol up + vol down and/or power + vol up.
It uses a new feature introduced with Android 12 to toggle accessibility services from these key combos.
How to use:
Install the app.
Go to Settings app, then Accessibility, and Advanced settings.
Select your key combo, then go down and select Activate flashlight.
Enjoy!
Requirements:
Since it is an Android 12 exclusive feature, this will only work on One UI 4.
To get a proper cohesion between this app and the quick setting flashlight tile.
You should consider, but it is not mandatory, to give WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS permission to this app.
Here it is only used to read secure settings but we need the permission as well.
To do that, two choices:
Using ADB :adb shell pm grant com.android.flashlightaccessibilityservice android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGSUsing terminal app (as Termux) :pm grant com.android.flashlightaccessibilityservice android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS
Changelog:
v1: Initial release
v1.1 : Drastic size reduction (removed unneeded dependencies + build optimisation)
v1.2 : Proper handling between the key combination and the quick setting torch tile
Big thanks for this very useful app
Thanks

Great work!
good job
Great, I've tried it on my old Galaxy S10e and it worked well. So far I found it's more convenient to use build in One UI4 feature to toggle flashlight using double tap the power button on my Galaxy S21.

It work without root on my galaxy s21 Fe? It have One Ui 4 Android 12. Thanks
I installed the app on S21 with One UI 4.1 April 2022 patch without giving the write permission on ADB, the flashlight doesn't work as intended. It could only be toggled on in Settings->Accessibility->Installed App, so it's basically useless. And flashlight will auto start when phone restarts.
