Samsung Galaxy S9+ SM-G965U1 firmware update in any carrier? - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

I have an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S9+ (SM-965U1) using on T-Mobile. Unfortunately, T-Mobile has been really slow to push out firmware updates. The last one was in February to 9.0 with only January 2019 security patches.
Looking at firmware updates from SamMobile, the other carriers have been pushing out updates for this model more frequently. Is there any difference between the firmware updates from AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, and T-Mobile for SM-G965U1? And if not, could I let's say borrow a friend's Verizon sim card, put it into my phone, and force a manual update that would be querying Verizon which has a more recent update?
Thanks

First of all you can't just put another sim card in and update
The only way is to flash your phone with Odin and I would recommend flashing the unlocked rom

Even if it isn't a carrier specific model? This was purchased from B&H Video which only sells unlocked versions.
The T-Mobile model is G965UZKATMB which seems to get frequent updates. Last one was in April (and I think I read a post that a June update was getting pushed out). While my phone, which is the unlocked model SM-G965U1 hasn't received one since February.

Wait, your last update was the Febuary update
My unlocked s9's last update was the April update

Yeah. Sprint, AT&T, and Verizon had a April release for the unlocked S9+. T-Mobile has been dragging their feet though. Which is why, if there's no difference between firmware (other than certifying it works on their Network), I was hoping I could just borrow a friend's sim card from one of the other 3 carriers and update my phone.

Unlocked LG G Pad X 8.0 V520 (AT&T) Nougat Update

Update: I'm returning it and went to T-Mobile and got a V521.
Recently with T-Mobile's free line promo I got myself a free line. I picked up an unlocked V520/G Pad X 8.0 (AT&T model). Popped the Tmo sim in and it works great. However, it won't show an OTA update for Nougat, LG Bridge just gives "cannot get software version" errors, and as far as I can tell there is no where to find a KDZ file for the AT&T variant. Confirmed AT&T blocks updates on unlocked devices without AT&T SIM cards.
When I had Nexus devices, I didn't have too many problems flashing variants of stock ROMs while using on T-Mo, anyone successfully flashed the V521 update on the V520 variant? Not really worried about unlocking the bootloader or getting root, just want to be on the latest software -- mine is on a security update from June 2016.
edit: Any ideas on where to get stock AT&T firmware?

What's the magic to get this to update? I have a V520 new out of the box off eBay and I haven't tampered with it (haven't unlocked bootloader, rooted it, etc)... but it's on android 6.0.1 - how does one get this to update to android 7.0?
I'll take a link to that kdz file too, if you'd be so kind! Not sure if I can force the tablet to install that manually, but it's worth a try.
I just received this tablet (Unlocked) and having the same issue. It does not have Nougat OTA update, neither Update can be detected by LG Air Bridge Software. I'll really appreciate if someone can link me to the Nougat file.
Check updates using an AT&T SIM. A user in Slickdeals has reported success - sorry can't post the link - new user here.
Update: I myself tried using AT&T Go phone and it worked.

I also had success yesterday. But even after inserting the sim, it wasn't showing. So I called AT&T tech support, provided the IEMI number and they pushed it instantly.
I also got the LG V520 off ebay. I read in an ATT support forum that it was necessary to have an ATT sim card in the tablet or it will not be able to connect to the update server. The same forum suggested to bring the tablet to an ATT store or the Samsung Experience in a Bestbuy.
I can verify that it is not enough to simply to connect to the ATT wifi in the store, you do actually need to insert an ATT sim. It took some convincing to get the person at the ATT store to pull a sim card from a demo phone to let me try. Here are some tips:
-- The tablet will only allow you to check for an update once every 24 hours. Make sure that you don't check for an update 24hours before going to the store, or once you're there, do a factory reset in order to do the update check.
-- Go to the store when they aren't too busy so they are more willing to help out.
-- Once the tablet detects that there is an update available, you can shut down the tablet and replace with your own sim card. You can then connect to any WIFI connection to finish the update.
Changes in the Nougat ROM:
-- When you create a second profile, it can now enable "install from unknown sources", but there is still no access to the external SD card. It means that the secondary profile can only use the internal memory.
-- ATT pulled the "WIFI Hotspot" feature out of the Nougat ROM.
-- Just like the Marshmallow ROM, phone features do not work. I don't know if this is a firmware lockdown or if it's a software thing.
The lack of hotspot really makes me wish for a custom rom on this tablet. Here's hope we get one soon on the V520

Could any kind person with the file LGV520AT-00-V20f-ATT-US-DEC-21-2016-ARB00+0.kdz please upload it.
I've spent about ten hours looking for this file in the vain attempt to update the V520 to Nougat, before I wrap it and give to my daughter for Christmas.
Many thanks to anyone that can help me out with this.

I would just purchase an h2o SIM card. Since h2o is an att reseller, you will get an update within 24 hours.

LG V30+ Unlocked (H930DS) Receiving updates outside Hong Kong region?

Hello,
I maybe made some uneducated buying, I am in Germany and bought some LG V30+ H930DS, I guess it is Hong Kong Version as it is V11m-HKG-XX.
It is working just fine with German T-Mobile networks, everything like LTE and such. What is just buggering me, will I get any updates on that phone, like security patches or Oreo?
Also, when I enter LG Smart World, I got the attached selection of countries, I thought this might be doable for Germany, too, but I guess I was too optimistic
Would it help to get the Indian firmware version?
Thank you for your help! And no, I do not want to return the phone

If Hong Kong then that proves he got update notification. M is the latest Nougat right now. US998 is still on C. Only South Korea carrier variants have Oreo.
I also have HKG H930DS version in UK with three and i've had 2 updates since purchasing it.

That sounds good, which updates did you get? I did not get any yet, but received the phone this Saturday with January patch preinstalled.
January is last patch that I received.
I also have the LG V30+, H930 ds, HK Version, ordered via UK. Since November I already got 2 updates OTA, but still no Oreo.
With the LG Suite I set HK as my location, but no further updates there.
So updates works also with HK Version.
I am also waiting for the Oreo update on the HK version, latest update was in January!
Also bought a H930DS imported from HK. I'm also on January software patch. I live in Denmark.
Anyone got voltE or WIFI calling working with the Hong Kong software version?
Also bought a H930DS imported from HK, also on January software patch and I live in Spain.
Let me join here . Another 930ds imported from HK back in November. I receive 2 ota updates since. Last security patch is the same (January). We will receive Oreo, I'm sure
Lg h930ds indian retail version got two security updates hope we get oreo update soon
Hi,
i want buy a Lg h930ds unlocked. There is the possibility that with Oreo update, the phone become yet locked (operator lock) ?
It will not lock to specific network, if you buy it unlocked. Or if you buy it locked and succeed to unlock it, no matter the updates, the phone will remain unlocked.
H930DS in Indonesia region has just received v10j update with march security patch.
Mine also from HK and no update yet, still on January update 7.1.2
Same here..
Hi , the same report from Czech republic , there is still nougat [emoji24]
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app
I am from CZE too, had HKG version too, flashed EU version and enjoying. You can do the same?

update

Hi all
My mother in law just got an s9 plus when i put in the sim card and sd card i turned on the phone it was showing me option to add another sim card but I ignored it because she only has 1.
I downloaded Samsung phone info and it was saying active csc was xeu I've been looking and im sure the android pie is already out but when i select software update it says already up to date tried smart switch says same thing but the phone is on November security patch. What's best way to update it dont want to use Odin as she she got the phone new.
Is the update out for it already?
I have a Version S9+ I received the Pie update on February 1st. It probably depends on your carrier, or if you have an unlocked phone when you will get the update. But either way if should be fairly soon.

Thankyou for responding sorry for late reply but its confusing me on her s9 plus this is what the csc is.
But also the build doesn't look like any of the ones on Samsung firmware site when I look for it just wondering if someone can tell me if its correct or not.

LG V30 H931 AT&T model cannot update O.S.

My phone LG V30 H931 black AT&T model
i bought in dubai as 2nd hand phone and now
im trying to update OTA it says " Your device is already updated " . i have checked in AT&T software official site and the device has available update for July 2019 security patch. My phone security patch is still last July 2018 since i purchased it.
I also tried LG bridge computer update but it shows " LG bridge cannot detect your device O.S. " does it mean im stuck in 8.0 Oreo ? weird, i have a korean version LG V40 and connecting to Lg bridge has no problem it detects the current OS of my V40 LGU + model.
So i realized it maybe because my phone is AT&T model , USA based phone and im not using at&t sim nor network since im in Dubai now
Now question ,is there any other solution to update into android Pie 9.0? or should i just. sell my phone and better buy another V30 or V35 korean version which has no problem in updating O.S. rather than USA based phones which are restricted . thanks

Months ago, I wrote a Guide for AT&T H931 and Sprint LS998 which can't update, if you are not AT&T or Sprint customer. It tell HOW to update them.

No, doesn't have Pie yet, but soon will. They will get Pie. But this question is not really about Pie, this is about updating H931 at all. There's only one way to do that, if you are not an AT&T customer. I tell how in the Sticky.
I've answered this question two or three dozen times and people just keep creating new threads to ask again. Thought sure the Sticky would help and maybe it has.

Device being carrier unlocked (by some code) has nothing to do with getting carrier-approved updates only allowed for that carrier's customers.
AT&T and Sprint don't want you using their devices on other networks, and if you do, they punish you. They also don't care about AT&T/Sprint customers who may sell their phones on eBay to non-customers.
There is a solution. Read the sticky.

Only AT&T H931 and Sprint LS998 are ostensibly restricted. There's a way around the restriction, explained in the sticky.
Neither carrier release public KDZ for their updates. They will only do FOTA (Firmware Over The Air) for customers who have their SIM cards.
This is why LG Bridge won't work for H931 or LS998, because you can capture the URL to the LG Server and post it publicly. We do this all the time in the OTHER variant KDZ threads, where you can download KDZ straight from LG Servers. AT&T and Sprint won't allow that.

Thanks for all the responses sir, i decided to sell my at&t used phone, manual upgrading software is too much hectic and risky for me as an ordinary user.
So this is a lesson learned from me and i strongly advised to all foreigners like me who wants to buy 2nd hand LG phones ,better buy korean variants or international version, avoid US based carrier brand phones.
Sk telekom, LG U + this korean variants are way better ,no restriction any country u go u can update the O.S.

* I've already explained it's not all U.S. carrier phones. However, if you research you will know AT&T and Sprint LG phones do not give updates to non-customers, nor do they publicly release KDZ update files. Those two carriers only release FOTA (firmware over the air) to customers.
* Most everyone here in this forum uses or has used LGUP. It's not risky if you just read the directions.
Many people on different LG variants don't get OTA updates (like India H930DS) and even my wife's native US998 -- and it's not because they aren't U.S. carrier customers. So they come here to get updates, and manually install them via Dev Patched LGUP.
For everyone else with AT&T H931 or Sprint LS998, here's the answer:

Help rolling back/changing firmware to fix cell service issues, unsure of version to use

I have an s9+ SM-G965U I bought Pre-Owned from Boost Mobile, I called and got the phone carrier unlocked and switched to Verizon near the end of 2021.
Service has worked fine up until a day or 2 ago, I strongly suspect it's caused by the latest Firmware update it auto installed recently.
latest version G965USQ9FUL1 released 2022-02-15
Thinking of rolling back to G965USQS9FUG2
Looking on sammobile.com the Verizon and TMobile versions are the same, I'm wondering which one I should use? Also will I run into problems with my phone trying to auto update firmware every few days?
Is it safe to use the Verizon version on my unlocked phone?
Also would just using the Verizon version most likely fix my service issues so that I can stay on the latest?
Apologies I am quite new to messing with phones in particular.
