Huawei decline - Huawei Mate 20 Pro Questions & Answers

It looks like Huawei will be hard hit by US Sanctions.
I guess my carrier won't hold the Mate 30 Pro so this will be my last Huawei device. I will either get a Sony device or the Pixel 4 XL. Time will show but Huawei is unfortunately out of the question. Most carriers won't risk holding Huawei devices

That doesn't mean the trade war is over, last month the US government granted Huawei a special license to work with Google to provide updates to existing phones. Kirin 980 devices like the Mate 20 and P30 series will still receive Android Q because of this special license. Any future Huawei phones are still banned from using Google services though.

In december hopefully android 9/pie
to mine comes nothing, it seems huawei does not have this as a priority although so many phones already have it and with more features on them like samsung

We'll see Android P (9) long before Samsung so
Don't count on it at least on US version. Huawei isn't really supporting this model, hence the rare updates. Maybe the 20 will get more attention.

A real damn shame Huawei are not supporting the Mate 10 better.
It seems the P20 has gotten most of the attention and they are focusing more on that. I take
it the P20 sold more than the Mate 10 series line.
IMO Huawei never really supported the Mate 10 series great.

Mate 10 is getting more support than Mate 9. Same region.
Used to get security updates every 3 to 4 months, now every month.
Got no new features on Mate 9 until Oreo arrived in January 2018, Mate 10 has received face unlock and updated night shot (with 8.1, 960 fps slow mo, new camera UI, GPU Turbo etc promised).
Support is DEFINITELY better this time round.

I agree, nothin to complain about in general. The region delays are a problem though because it seems like it could be avoided easily.

Okay my friend and thanks.
Honestly, I don't think my NXT-L29 will get it. I like Huawei better than Samsung but I bought a Note 9 even though I wanted Mate 10 Pro purely because Huawei is so ****ty with North American updates.

I went from the mate 8 to the mate 10 pro and the update schedule has been okay for the most part. But I have the global variant bla l29. I have been very impressed with the face unlock update and I've recieved the gpu turbo update but since I don't play games much on my phone I haven't taken advantage of it. The night shot update with AI stabilisation is very impressive too.
Huawei have gotten better with software updates for the most part especially when it comes to bringing new features but the update schedule is unpredictable. Atm I have recieved the September patch while my mate 8 hasn't updated in quite a few months and always took ages for updates.
Hi still not available for rom oreo not come

Security updates for how long

Hi, thinking about swapping my mi mix 2 for the mate 20 Pro.
I only have one question though, I know android Q is on the way but for how long is the mate 20 Pro likely to keep receiving security and android version updates?
Disappointed with the updates for the mi mix 2 for a flagship phone and I don't want to make the same mistake again.
Thanks.
Right now we have the July security patch and soon the August

You'll have android q anyway... What does matter to you if you get security monthly updates or not ?
My wife's mate 9 and my mate 10 both are still receiving OTA security updates. Both these devices are now on EMUI 9.1 so no need to panic for the mate 20.
Thanks for the replies, looks like I'm gonna order before the offer on the phone runs out.
Thanks again.

If I had to guess, I'd would say at least two more years.

[Leak] Mate 30 Pro Promotion Pictures - Who is buying it?

What do you guys think? Worth an upgrade or stick to the Mate 20 Pro?
http://www.slashleaks.com/l/huawei-mate-30-pro-oficial-promotional-picture
I'm not upgrading that frequently anymore I don't think. This phone is already super smooth and does everything I need. Plus it'll be getting q soon.
mate20 pro, first and last huawei for me
I'll keep the 20 for at least one and a half year. Don't see much of a reason to upgrade yearly nowadays.
In my opinion I think Huawei make a good product and compete well with the best out there including Samsung and Apple. Unfortunately until we know for certain their US related issues and Android relationship in the long run, I don't think it's worth investing your top dollar on their flagship. For me this may be my first and last flagship from Huawei. I would definitely jump back again if everything has been clear and certain.
rooted mate 20 pro here, don't think there will be bootloader unlock codes for the mate 30 pro, i'll stick to the mate 20 pro and then i'll maybe get the note 11
If it's as bad ass as the Mate 20 Pro was at launch, and the price is right, then yes. Otherwise, I'll just hang on to my Mate 20 Pro a bit longer.

AOSP and no Google would be a dream for many here (GApps can always be installed if needed), and the removal of a lot of the EMUI & Google cruft would be awesome.
No point buying a phone of this value if it doesn't come with the essential Google apps.
Pixel 4 XL or Xperia 2 here I come
I am happy with the Mate 20 pro, I would jump ship if real life reviews (not the reviews given by you tubers which are handed the devices by Huawei for the purpose of "coloured" reviews) confirm a major upgrade on the camera's over the Mate 20 pro. I came from the Mate 10 and the camera on the Mate 10 gives me sometimes pictures like a oil painting, not happy with its camera so the upgrade to the Mate 20 pro was huge.
Going back on topic, as much as I dislike Apple, Samsung and google and their policies - being realistic they are all out there to sell their product and Huawei is not different and going in the same direction like Apple and co I welcome the opportunity of showing google they are not the only ones out there (except for Apple) offering an operating system for mobile devices. I would love to see an alternative. I believe I have to see in how far I can live without google services and how expensive the phone is. I believe it would be a matter of time before developers have alternatives for the major applications. I will follow closely the development on this subject, by the time the Mate 30 pro has reached an affordable price I am willing to spend we will know where we stand concerning google and its possibilities. So time will tell.

Except they are not allowed to use AOSP either. Also with more and more being put into play services which can be blocked device wide by a server switch. I wouldnt count on installing google apps. One fast device check and boom the device is blocked from the play store.

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about. Heck I'm not even sure you belong here. But then most really don't.
I love the mate 20 pro . Reliability ,quality and all other factors needed. I use the mate 20 prop with android auto in my car every day. If I am not able to use Google photos, google maps, Android auto and Spotify I shall not buy the Mate 30 . It seems to be the best but cannot use it

Petition Mi Pad 4 for Android 10 and MIUI 12

Just to remind everyone that I had started a petition for MIUI 12 (Android 10). Sign if you are instrested .
Nothing is certain except taxes, deaths, and Mi Pad series not to receive any major system update. The Mi pad 4 was launched with a Snapdragon 660 chipset (14nm). Nevertheless, this is not an excuse of it to not to update to android 10. It is evident that there are devices that have a lower level processor than the Snapdragon 660 like Snapdragon 625 on Mi A2 lite, which is on the roadmap of Xiaomi devices that will receive Android 10.
Yet, the support guy behind the screen rejected us for the second time for a newer android version (both 9 and 10), only supported by the aforementioned lame excuse which is evidence-lacking. We do not understand why Xiaomi ignored THE FULL MI PAD SERIES FOR ANY MAJOR UPDATES, WHICH IS AS SAME AS SAYING 'Don't ever try to buy Mi pad series as we will NOT provide any major update to your device.' How ridiculous is this? Even Huawei Tab M5 with 16nm chipset and lower clock speed had updated to Android 9. This force us to either stay on the ancient android Oreo, which was present on the significantly older and less powerful Mi 5 (2016) smartphone, or go to custom roms which requires quite an amount of computer knowledge and is very easy to brick your device with one click.
We only ask that you to push MIUI 12 based on Android 10 to Mi pad 4, which has the certain right to update to android 10. We are all going to sign this petition, not only the carriers of a Mi Pad 4, but also anyone which thinks their phone deserves a new operating system. We strongly demand Mi pad 4 to update to Android 10, globally and stably.

Hate to say it but the petitions are useless. I already signed one for Android 9 but you can see, nothing happens (except my mailbox getting bombarded by change.org). Besides, you can forget the global release because this is a chinese-only device.

it is a treble device, so the old vendors can be unmodified and only modify the Google Offical GSI and theme it as Miui, right?
