Coowell V5 - how to root / get most performance? - Android Stick & Console AMLogic based Computers

Hello folks,
this is my first post here, however I have been here a few times since my first android phone (LG GT540).
Currently I have a little more exotic device in my hands. Its a Cowell V5 android TV stick.
My plan is to get the most processing power out of it. I want to use it as a dev board basically.
So I want to root it and try some modifications, but I have no clue how to root this device.
Can anyone give me a hint?
Greetings

First get the stock firmware. Ask the seller or search on google.
Then use Customization Tool to edit the firmware.
You can use Khadas' method of adding su and init.d scripts.
You can also flash magisk to get root access.

Try this new custon rom to coowell v5 s905x https://drive.google.com/file/d/1IT014HqNm9g22As6VT7vmzxgdP6Oo0Lt/view?usp=sharing

[Q] How to install Android 2.2 on my DELL XCD28 2.1 Eclair?

I have an DELL XCD28 GSM with Android 2.1, i really wanted to know how to Upgrade to Android 2.2.
Dell does not going to release an Upgrade to 2.2 in future.
So what are the ways i can install Android 2.2 on my Device?
Thanks
I have also purchased dell xcd28. As it was the only android phone in my budget. Please let me know how to install froyo or gingerbread on my device. Dell is not providing any official updates for the device.
Please reply to this post as early as possible.
Hello,
I am aware that DELL is not going to provide any upgrade even for XCD35 they are not going to release anything, thats sad :-(
But XCD25 is actually ZTE Racer 2G model with extra facility of 3G added for DELL model. I searched for some ROM upgrade but only one ROM i found that too was for the chinese model of ZTE without EDGE support only 3G was working.
I finally decided instead of looking around and wasting time. i am gonna create my own ROM for my device. I am a developer and i can create my own custom ROM. So i just started the work and hopefully in a few weeks i may finish the ROM.
I will let you know about the ROM soon
Meanwhile get your device rooted and add some cool features to the 2.1 version. You can find many apps and utilities which you can add using rooted phone.
BUT DO THIS ONLY IF YOU ARE TECHNICALLY GOOD AT OWN TROUBLESHOOTING!
ALSO BACKUP YOUR ORIGINAL ROM(with rooted device) BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY CHANGES!
So good luck!
I would like to know how to root my phone and I am also looking for a free tethering tool through which I can connect to internet on my pc. I am a Windows Client Administrator and just know a bit about android development.
Rooting for android device is easy but its a bit technical
follow these steps below:-
1.download z4root from here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833953
2.After rooting your device DONT FORGET TO BACKUP YOUR ROM BEFORE ATTEMPTING ANY CHANGES!
3. For backup using NANDROID!
I have fully tested the above steps and its working 100%
Good Luck!

Just Opened my Eye
Hello Everyone,
I just saw a video about Android Security from Kasperksy Lab in YouTube
But, After seeing this video about Android Security from Kaspersky Lab I realised how dangerous rooting and loading custom rom maybe, I personally had this question with me as i was developing the ROM as it completely pulls the security out of your device.
Android Malware attacks are in the news now. So its better being safe then sorry
So I have decided not to release the Custom ROM to public and also i am stopping the Development of the ROM.
Also i am not saying that you should not root your device and do other cool stuff with it. Its solely up to you. Finally its your Android Device!
Good Luck!

Hi, if you searched for it on Google and XDA (as I just did to check), it likely has not been rooted yet. Sorry! The best thing you could do is to google search and search XDA every week or so, maybe something will turn up soon!
I might get one of these, as they're $100 on Target's website for Cyber Monday.
Not enough people have them for someone to invest the time into rooting, but a common root method might work...

Got mines at walmart for $79. I have the same kernel as him except my firmware version is 4.0.3.
Still can't find anything on this damn tablet. Almost wish I didn't buy it heheh.
Supposedly root is available on M-270 but I still can't install Superuser. su is present in xbin too. I tried to use superoneclick and it said it was rooted then I tried to continue with root anyway and it froze. Has anyone had this problem and found a solution yet?

I successfully rooted my Maylong M270 by using the software in the linked thread. I was able to install Google Play, and from there I updated SuperUser and BusyBox. Titanium Backup works properly. Without a custom kernel, overclocking is impossible for the moment, and I'm not too sure on how a kernel (or custom recovery and ROM for that matter) can be ported, but the root is here and working.

I call bogus on this post. I tried both means to root the Maylong M270 using this method and it does not work. Instead of just posting "I DID IT", why not help out the users and post HOW you did it... simply following the links and downloads on the post you've referenced doesn't do it.

I know it's been way long since the OP, but a tool called "ICS root" (can be found on SourceForge) will unlock this tablet. The device is a bit temperamental so once you run the .bat in terminal, you will have to manually restart and log back into the tablet before continuing each prompt at the terminal. Eventually after 2 -3 prompts, the .bat will be finished and the tablet will "update Android", a sign that you have successfully rooted.
Good luck all.

However, I'm not allowed to post links, since I have not posted before. So I'm going to post this info in a series of posts, hoping that by the end, links will be allowed.
To find more info on your tablet there is an app in the Play store called CPU Identifier that will tell you what type of board you have in the tablet. Search for that board name on XDA to find rooting advice.

Custom ROM and ROOT for Maylong M-270
But the short story is, there is a way to root this tablet, but even better there is a custom ROM available. HardcoreHacker over at "techknow dot me" has been working hard on this. The key to figuring this out was realizing the WM8950 SOC chip set used in this tablet is the same as the WM8850. They are interchangeable. The rom is called Uberoid and is Jellybean 4.1.1, and it works great. My tablet runs very well now, and doesn't lock up all the time like it used to. I also have a link where you can download the original firmware from Maylong. So I'm trying to get some posts here so I can do a proper link, however here are some ugly links to try.
Original Firmware:
maylonggroup dot com forward slash Tablet_downloads.htm
and Uberoid Link
3w's "dot" techknow "dot" me "forward slash" forum "forward slash" index.php?topic=5356.0
Again, I apologize for the very cryptic links - I will work on getting them posted properly. I have two of these tablets and both are running Uberoid. I'm very satisfied with it. The only issue I have (on both tablets) is the battery monitoring is very poor. But this is in the kernel I think because it is the same as it was before the custom ROM.
NOTE! - as you will see on the Maylong Site, there are two different models of this tablet - You can tell which you have based on your serial number, but I think this is a pretty important distinction. If you have the same model as I do, you are going to need JingHan_MID7_V715_8228_FT5206.fwc from the Uberoid List. My model's serial number is M2701204 which is in the same group as M2701202, M2701203, and M2701205)

Wow very helpful I'm trying this now, also it should be mentioned you have to be signed into Techknow for the link to work. If you're not it just looks like a bad link.

[Q] Android Devices Currently Not Supported By Cyanogenmod

Hello Guys,
Could anyone please provide some info about this case:
o What are my options if I have an Android device (smartphone) not supported by CyanogenMod?
o Is there anything than waiting until my model will be added to the supported list? I bought a very simple and reasonably priced "no-name" phone (Simvalley SP-2X.SLIM), and I learn now one disadvantage is that it is not supported.
o I also did not find anything about rooting, flashing or even booting it up into safe mode / recovery.
Any help and info is very much appreciated.

Well, here it is straight forward, your device only gets official support if the Cyanogenmod teams deems the unofficial build for it stable and reliable to gain official support. If there isn't any unofficial builds then it's safe to say that it will never have official support. As for rooting the device there may be methods for it available, a universal root for example, flashing as in roms and other things, no clue, never heard of that device before and there might not be any support for it either. So with that being said, hope this helps you.

Hi Yoelpro,
Thanks for your info. Since my first post I have managed to root my device - was very happy. It was not too easy, given that it is extremely minimal supported. I already tried TWRP with GooManager, but when I try to install an open recovery sript, surprise surprise: "no recoveries were found for your device".
Any ideas if there is another way to find one and copy it on the phone? I have to confess being too scared even trying to flash a custom ROM without flashing a backup first. I managed to find out that the stock ROM is a Vanilla on my Simvalley SP-2X.SLIM.
Thank you.

Hey there Critical Detox
Thanks for your info. Since my first post I have managed to root my device: Simvalley SP-2X.SLIM - was very happy to see that it is working.
Unfortunately, I could not even find an unofficial CM build, I'm quite sure that an official build does not exist. Interestingly, my device was once perfectly recognized as SP-2X.SLIM and once recognised as HTC (for drivers) during the rooting. I'm very curious IF or AS WHAT my device would be recognized if I started the one click install of CM. I might be a chicken, but a careful chicken as I don't want to do it before saving a backup of the stock ROM to my SD card first. When I try to install an open recovery sript (GooManager), surprise surprise: "no recoveries were found for your device". I managed to find out that the stock ROM on my device is a Vanilla 4.2.2 but could I not find this ROM to download yet.
Any help is very welcome, as I am not quite an expert and my phone is a quasi no-name model.
Cheers,
schmayer

[Q] [HELP] Rooting Sony Walkman NW-ZX2

I've been trying to root this device for a few days now.
The device is running Android 4.2.2 JellyBean.
Tried using One Click Root on it, and it downloads ADB drivers, but never connects.
I know the old ZX1 was able to obtain root, but have had no luck so far with this one.
Thanks in advance.
Just reporting back, I've tried Framaroot, Towelroot, Kingroot APKs with no luck, and One Click Root, and various other One Click solutions for the old NW-ZX1 and other Xperia devices, and all have failed.
From what I know, the ZX1 and Xperia Z2 Tablet used similar kernel, and were able to utilize the same solution.
Any more info would be greatly appreciated.
Any news? Some people rooted zx1 with Vroot, but with zx2 it does not work.
While i was researching about the volume problem,
I found on the Sony Japanese website the firmware update of 1.01 as an exe or dmg, since it is not the original firmware only an update, i doubt it could be used or even could be helpful.
I am not posting any links here to avoid confusion, but anyone who might think that this could be of any help for him to find a solution and is knowledgeable enough to be playing around this area without bricking his device or at least willing to take the risk and responsibility, he could pm me for the link.
i will post it also on xda may be someone could help.
also, i don't want to give any false hope, so don't raise em up.
Still no luck after trying some other methods...
I'd love to root this thing to get rid of all the useless bloatware that came installed on it,
as well as trying to extend the battery life.

Did anyone ever get to the bottom of solving this issue. As I would like to upgrade the android version so more apps able to work with this Walkman?
No, I haven't found anything that works yet.
Guessing there's no hope for root on the ZX2? :/

There seems to be little or nothing that can be done - and in deprecation asked Sony to support this and they seem recluctant saying nothing meaningful just the usual scripted answers. We all have wonderful music player and as such all is not lost and I certainly will continue to try and get this android player updated.

Did anyone manage to successfully root the Sony zx2 with the root.360.cn or with any other root tool? I own a Sony zx2 that wish to root as well. My problem with the zx2 is that it is not passing hi res signal to my Sony pha-3 if I am not using the Sony stock music app. I tried to download USB audio player pro from the App Store but it says that it isn't compatible with the Walkman. Any input will be appreciated thanks!
Hi for those who want to root their zx2, i did get my zx2 rooted with 360root from http://root.360.cn/index.html
Can you share some of the system apps from it? Or maybe full system dump if possible?
I tried root.360.cn (both from windows and direct on android) it doesn't work unfortunately. Kingoroot doesn't work also. ZX2 EU version
Is anyone able to validate a successful root process yet? I'm seeing some recommendations that have been non-events for most.
Also, discovered http://oss.sony.net/Products/Linux/Audio/NW-ZX2.html today: unfamiliar with ROM development, would this content provide all that's necessary to build a ROM or is it missing things like hardware drivers?
Would love to Android 8.0 deployed to what is a fantastic device (and the last Sony are deploying with Android?).

Hi I just wanted to let everyone know that I managed to unlock the bootloader on my xperia xz 2 using the old adb command prompts when you get your unlock code from the Sony developer website but still struggling to root it. I've heard magisk is 1 method but you'd need to find and download your phones original bootloader image file and patch it I think then flash it. Then back to your pc and install the file magisk downloaded to your magisk manager folder in your phones memory using a adb command prompt

Root access on "unbranded" device

Hello there.
I've got a new tablet that's not "on the market" right know. It has two models, an old one with Android 7, and a new one with Android 9. Both come from China (obviously) and the OS is made on Portugal I think.
I have all the specs and also the stock rom for both of them. I can also get in the recovery mode and that stuff. I'd like to know if I can, somehow, have root access to these, using the stock rom or something. Of course I've tried the automatic rom stuff like Kingo and similar.
I can share specs and CPU-Z info if it's needed.
Edit: I don't know if this helps, but I'd only need to have root access from a certain app. Perhaps I can set it as system app editing the ROM?
Thanks! And sorry for my robotlike english level.
