First you need unlocked bootloader
Then you need miui 10.1.1.0 global to return back
Format data before installing
Afterwards you should be fine
You can flash stock ROM via mi flash tool..
For complete step to step installation method you can go here - https://www.miuithemez.com/2019/06/how-to-flash-stock-rom-on-redmi-note-4-fastboot-method.html
You can also select whether you want to lock your bootloader or not. And also, you can download the latest version of MIUI

Hi
This is the first time I will be trying out a custom rom. Basically I would have just tried rooting stock rom but I want to go a little further. So I have picked cynanogen mod jellybean based rom.
I found the instructions here
https://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Install_CM_for_mango
So before I start there are few questions I have which I would like some help with.
1. The last step of installing from zip says to use Cwm if using cm 11 and using cyanogenmod recovery if using cm 12 or newer. But the latest stable is 9.1.0 so what method to use ?
2. Does kernel mean boot.img?
3. Will I ever be able to get back to stock if I wish in future ?
4. I am currently on stock 4.0.4 is that good enough to start unlocking bootloader and flashing cm 9.1.0
5. What other issues can I expect ?
6. Should I wipe dalvik , user data and all that before I start with the zip ?
Apologies if some questions are stupid
Anyone with some pointers ?
@rajdeeprath
6.) Yes.
4.)To install CyanogenMod or to flash any kernel ,you will need to unlock bootloader.
2.)Yes. boot.img = kernel.
1.) The recovery is in the boot.img so ignore that instruction
3.) You can just go back to stock ROM by flashing FTF.
5.) Yes you will. Check Bugs and issues in relevant thread for details.
So i just unlocked my bootloader officially, i had a question on TWRP and root. im on the SD version RN3
Which is the best TWRP to flash ? The official 3.0.2 or the modified Cofface 3.0.0
If i use the Cofface one , the latest do i still need to use the universal boot patcher ? ( i only intend to stick to xiaomi roms, mostly china or global dev or the xiaomi.eu roms)
I will then flash supersu to root
To update each rom OTA , i will need to unroot , flash OTA via updater app or via normal update received from OS , then flash supersu again?
Many guides state that if u use the latest Cofface one nothing else is needed when flashing miui based roms, some say the universal flasher is needed, hence was confused n thought id ask here.

I think best choice is cofface twrp in your situation
Nothing is needed when you flash miui based roms because you unlocked officially. Universal boot patcher is for people who unlocked unofficially
I wonder at this stage, which is better? Stable ROM or Developer ROM? I want a fully root access to my phone. Install TWRP. That's it.
I read somewhere that Developer ROM is bootloader locked, while only Stable ROM is the only that can be bootloader unlocked.
As from this thread guide: http://en.miui.com/thread-253680-1-1.html
If I successfully unlocked bootloader, then I flash Developer ROM, will I still have bootloader unlock or is it locked? Any risked?
Please advice. Thank you.
Any MIUI ROM will relock your bootloader. Do NOT flash any MIUI ROM without modifying it first. That’s how I hardbricked my device.
What you need to do is open the .zip file you want to flash. Go to the folder firmware-update and delete emmc_appsboot.mbn. If you want to use MIUI, I recommend using a Xiaomi.eu build because it’s compatible with TWRP.
I tested this method and it works. You can find similar posts in this forum if you search. However, I recommend that you still apply for the official unlock, wait until you get permission and then flash a fastboot ROM from miui.com and unlock it officially.
Thank you. I also thinking to apply xiaomi eu, since the last MIUI 7 based ROM already release.
Ok, now I go back to GLOBAL ROM stable Version: V7.1.8.0.LHOMICL (MIUI7) and unlock bootloader. Install TWRP and root.
Now I want to install xiaomi.eu ROM: 6.5.26 - Last Miui 7!
https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/6-5-26-last-miui-7.31811/
Can I just flash this custom ROM directly from TWRP? DO I still need to flash modded boot.img?
whenever i flash the fastboot rom with the new modified emmc_appsboot.mbn phone is always bricekd. I always have to flash the original one for the phone to boot
Hi Devs,
I have tried to unlock bootloader [SD] by Mi Official method but got no success. :crying:
Always stuck at 50%.
I am wondering if the BL is unlocked via an unofficial way then can I flash AOSP based roms right away.
If yes, kindly suggest a way to unlock BL because I came across with so many threads each is somewhat different.
I have changed MIUI roms to try my luck say global -> global beta -> (soft brick) -> china beta.
Got confused, currently I am on China Dev Rom.
My Understanding till now ---
1. Unlock BL
2. FLash TWRP
3. Wipe All
4. Flash CM firmware -> Flash AOSP rom
5. Success...:silly:
Kindly guide if anyone had done this before.
i was having something similar to you.
i wanted to flash cyanogen roms but i didnt waited until i get the unlocker code from xiaomi.
i followed this tutorial
https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/how-to/method-to-flash-twrp-recovery-unlock-t3473294
it makes you flash a dev/beta global miui rom (i suggest you 6.9.29) with a custom recovery (you delete the stock recovery and replace it with a custom one like aika recovery or zcx recovery). then use the app miflash (latest version support windows 32 &64 bit, olders ones only 64 bit) to flash the entire miui rom.
When you finished you will have a miui rom with custom twrp. Then you boot to recovery (dont let the phone boot to system) and twrp will overwrite stock recovery) then you reboot to system and there you go. You will have miui and a fully working custom recovery (there you can flash supersu, cyanogen roms, xposed, and every other zip you want)

I have gone through full thread. https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/how-to/method-to-flash-twrp-recovery-unlock-t3473294
For some it works, but no one has widely used it to flash custom kernal or rom. All again stayed on MiUI.
It seems that nobody is quite clear about how this stuff works because members have asked questions like
How would official TWRP boot on locked BL
Working of Custom kernals
Modified BLs
I am planning to flash Unofficial LineageOS 7.1.1 or RR.
kindly confirm If you did this on Kenzo itself with some custom kernal and rom.

I did it with Kate. The only difference is that i change "cm14 firmware" to put Kate módem (original cm14 firmware has kenzo modem).
You are missing drivers on PC thats why you are getting 50% error... Sign in i.mi and locate...install MiFlash on PC 64bit, win7+, if you are on china dev ->turn on usb debbugging-> boot in fastboot mode, use original cable run MiUnlock and unlock, it will work 100%. I have unlocked BL so many times on different computers...and it always worked...if done all right

Hi Denis, I have installed MIPcSuite. I think it contains all drivers for our device.
Further drivers from MIFlash tool are also present in my PC.
If you have a specific version kindly tell me.
Say ver of - MiFlash , China Dev or Global Dev , MiUnlock.
off course I am using Mi Cable shipped with device.
@BraianV - I have flashed Lineage. Votle Issues. :good:Hitted Thanks for help.
Hi there! I'm not very fond of MiUi ROMs so I didn't even touch my device for three days so that I could instantly unlock bootloader and flash Lineage OS. The thing is I'm curious whether or not should I flash MiUi Firmware. There is a script which gets the latest firmware package (50 mb) as a flashable zip. A few weeks ago I flashed in this order:
1) Latest mido firmware
2) Latest Lineage OS rom
3) Latest Magisk zip
4) Custom kernel
My device is as good as always but flashing miui firmware is necessary? Will it give better stability or could I just ignore it if I want to update my os? Does Aosp based rom flash it's own firmware so it makes virtually pointless to flash miui firmware before the whole process?
