Damn guys I still don't understand something.
1) If I'll unlock bootloader for example to flash customs. I can't use any more Sony PC Companion for firmware update ? Correct.
2) And if I want to get back to Sony PC Companion (example to get latest available update) I need to flash back any stock FTF and after just a lock bootloader back ?
Or what I need just to run Sony Update Service to restore back stock firmware and after lock bootloader ?
please explain in detail's because I read all threads but still confused.

This is the info as i understand it. (yes its confusing!)
- unlocking your bootload will delete your device keys. So x-reality engine will stop working. It will also stop your updates from the sony server (as your device has lost its keys and wont be recognised as an xperia device)
-If you want to enable these sony updates you will need to flash your TA partition back. This will only work if you have a stock FTF firmware package. A custom ROM wont enable your device keys to work.

Great! Doesn't look like anyone else on here is doing this on a dedicated thread consistently for our Ultra.
I have a search and rescue operation unfolding at the moment, so this weekend I'll probably be busy... but when I get back i'll start making them.

Hi all,
I just want to make sure that my backed up TA is not a false file. I am afraid if i can't restore my TA backup after unlocking my bootloader.. :fingers-crossed: Please see the attachment and tell me that it's a valid one. For information, it was created when i Vrooted the phone on Android 4.2.2 (v.532 to be exact)
PS: Is it possible that i can unlock Bootloader, put a rootable Kernel to root, and then relock bootloader with this TA file? The First two steps, i am sure that it will work with provided steps here, only the last step (to lock bootloader) that i still have some doubts. Thanks a bunch.
The size looks right, and a backup from the 532 days is still valid.
And no, you can't do that. You'll softbrick since you'll be on a custom kernel. It should work (in theory) if you flash a stick kernel first.

You have misunderstood. A TA backup from [the days of] .532 will still work on the new firmware.

Ah silly me yeah i didn't see any dot before the number so i thought otherwise. Thanks Btw, i haven't run fastboot for a while (like, Xperia Rays days), but how to backup current stock kernel? Or do i need to extract kernel from the stock ftf then?
When u would like to reflash stock kernel, just use flashtool and ftf with fw which kernel u want and exclide everything but kernel

hi folks
i am expecting to get a z2 and i have few questions.
from what i ve understoud, if you want to root it, you need to unlock the bootloader, and if you want to unlock the bootloader, you need to backup TA partition first, but for perform this backup YOU NEED TO BE ROOT , and i have to admit that i am somehow lost :/
Any help around for solve my headache?
best regards
No headache, at the current time there's no root workaround. It's a catch 22 scenario you can't do 1 step without screwing up the next 1.

The whole deal is a bit confusing, yes
The so called TA partition holds your DRM keys which give you access to DRM content. These are unique for each phone and a restore of the TA partition from a different phone would permanently brick your phone. If you restore your own TA partition however, the phone is locked again and your completely back to stock again, Sony won't be able to see that you've rooted it.
Now, in order to backup the TA partition, you need to have root access. In the past this was accomplished by an exploit, which gave you root access without wiping the TA partition. Therefore you could get root access, backup TA, flash a custom recovery, flash a custom ROM and if need be, flash your phone back to stock completely.
Hope that made things a bit clearer.
I just need to have root in the safest way once i have my z2, is the exploit still up?

There is no exploit for the Z2 (yet) and no guarantee that there ever will be one. Right now, your only choice is to use this recovery which will wipe your TA partition permanently.

damm, why all phones are not so easy to root as htc.....
what are fundamental changes in your daily use once you lost your drm ?

Is it possible to downgrade the android OS to 4.2 or 4.3, root it and get back to the latest version?
There may or may not be an exploit but if there is, according to what i know is that still your bootloader status should be either unloocked or unlockable. If the status is unlockable or unlock allowed no then there is nothing you can do.... Is this correct?
For instance if my bootloader is locked cuz most carrier locked phones on contracts come with a locked bootloader, if i get my phone unlocked will my bootloader status change? If not is there a way to boot such a phone.
I have a few questions on this
1. Is there a way to know if ure buying a phone with unlocked or locked bootloader ( obviously i cant open all boxes and check one by one by the command) ?
2. If the carrier locked phone have locked bootloaders and vice versa what if we unlock a carrier locked phone will the status change then?
3. Have anyone using previous xperia models with a locked bootloader been able to root so far?
Havent got one yet but as much as I am looking forward to get one these are all ofsetters.

There is no Andoid 4.2 or 4.3 to downgrade to.

No. But you can skip the booting of the .69 firmware(just turn on the phone, see the Sony logo and force shut down(volup+power)). Then flash your desired lollipop firmware and !EXCLUDE TA partition! It is the most important part.

In flashtool, when you select the lollipop firmware, there is a list Exclude on the right. In that list check TA.
Simplified instuctions:
1. flash stock lollipop with flashtool
2. lock bootloader with flashtool
3. flash .69(turn on the phone and force turn off(if you get stuck in Sony logo) )
4. unlock the bootloader now
5. flash lollipop without TA
6. flash Androplus kernel to gain recovery
7. flash the DRM Restoration.zip from recovery and wipe dalvik cache
8. Done
Hit Thanks, if I helped!

If you saved your DRM keys before unlocking the bootloader, you can get it in its original state. If you didn't, you have to stay unlocked (or lock and lose drm functions, which I guess is not an option). But I don't see a reason for locking it. You can flash different kernels that way. For example, Androplus kernel have undervolting. It can reduce the heat of your device. It also has so many different options(governors, overclock, KSM, hotplug, etc.)

Install any .69 ftf you want. Just make sure it is for your variant of device (XX02, XX03 etc.) You will be overwriting it anyways. Just make sure it has a TA partition inside. If you don't see it, download another one.

Hello there.
I'm thinking about buying this phone, but I'd like to know:
1. Is it possible to root the phone? I haven't found any info on xda, but there is something here --> http://en.miui.com/thread-215325-1-1.html Can someone confirm that it works?
2. What about ROMs? I see that most of the Xiaomi devices have some (mi3/4 even have official CM support), here the section is empty. Is it not possible to develop ROMs for this device, or is it just a matter of time?
3. Is the bootloader locked?

Yes. This firmware saves me when the system is on my phone falls in the experiments. How to flash is here to see (only drivers easier are put, without such problems).
Or you can put the firmware via adb-interface. So I put my localized and tweaked version.
With unlocked bootloader yet like no one - Xiaomi needs to receive the approval to unlock. A request for this here (Xiaomi account needs).

Think we'll need the global rom with no Chinese app store installed for Google to be a default.
