so ive had the v30 for a week and a half now and i noticed the reception on it is horrible especially when im at work i only get 2 bars, some spots 1 bar then other spots it drops to 3g at 1 bar.. is there a way to get better reception? ive already messed with the network settings its the same. i didnt have this problem when i had the iphone 7 or samsung s8. both of those phones always stayed on 4g at work. so is there a possible fix to improve this?

It has to temporarily switch to HSPA for phone calls if your carrier is not letting you use VoLTE.
It will switch back to LTE after the phone call.

Do you have the VoLTE toggle enabled in Settings?
I don't, because my carrier plan doesn't allow VoLTE -- but I have no problem temporarily dropping to HSPA for a phone call.

Using CM9 Unofficial,
when I'm making a call, as soon as the call goes out my 4g indicator drops down to HSPA, and then 3g. During the call, the indicator switches frantically between H and 3g...and after the call, it takes several minutes to go back up to LTE.
Is this normal? Maybe i just never paid attention to the signal indicator shortly before and after a call...or maybe the stock ROMs just don't show the drop and then the pickup of the 4g LTE signal.
I'm aware that there's no VoLTE yet, but i also didn't know that the phone completely dropped--and then had to reinitiate the LTE signal just because of a phone call.
Data works while the call is in-session.

Yeah even on the stock firmware whenever you start a phone call LTE is dropped. I remember this because I have bad 3g coverage in my area but LTE is great (I know Backwards) but whenever i get on the phone I have 2-3 Bars but browsing the internet while off the phone on LTE I easily get 5 bars. You must have missed it because on the stock it goes from 4G lte to just 4G.
AT&T doesn't have Voice over LTE yet. Perhaps the indicator is showing you the information that would be most important while you are making a call (3G/HSPA+ reception).
This is only a guess of course.

This is sort of my point...and the issue, =(. Mah brain says that there shouldn't be an issue keeping up a LTE connection because it's not being used for voice. I could sorta understand if the phone wanted to prioritize the use of LTE if it wanted it for voice. But why should it drop it during a call.

My understanding is that the icon is the type of connection that the phone has with the nearest cell tower. Therefore since there isn't any VOLTE (Voice Over LTE) it needs to drop the LTE connection and connect with the same cell tower but without LTE (or nearby cell tower if LTE and HSPA+ use different ones) in order to make a phone call so it will lose LTE while the call is in progress. I'm thinking this is because the phone will only use one connection at a time so it would have to stop using LTE in order to use 3G or HSPA+ or whatever.

Ah. Mah brainz don't hurts az much as it yoost too.
Yup. Correct. During a phone call, your phone will be on 3G/H+, LTE will be dropped. Its the Network, NOT the phone.

Hi there, I just got my Lumia 920 ATT unlocked, I got the 20 digits unlock code from ATT customer service. But I found it cannot get any signal after I push my T-Mobile SIM card in, it says "No service" and the signal bar is grayed out with a forbidden sign on it, even if I choose to join T-Mobile network manually in cellular settings page. And the most strange thing is, if I call someone using T-Mobile SIM card, the signal comes back quickly, the call could be connected successfully, but after hang up, signal is gone again.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Yes of course. After powered down and up, the phone has signal, but after few seconds, signal is gone again.

The signal bar on the Lumia represents the signal strength of the LTE network which is what the phone attempts to use by default at all times so it can get data for live tiles and such. You may not be in one of T-mos reframed areas yet so your phone is unable to get service on the LTE bands. When you make a call the phone will drop to 3g service and that is why you see bard then as they represent the 3g signal strength. Or it might drop to radio service. Once the call ends the phone will go back to LTE service as it needs a full time data connection to function with live tiles.

Thanks for reply, I have tried to specify network manually in settings->cellular page, None of 'T-Mobile (LTE, 4G)' and 'T-Mobile G' are lucky. In my understanding if I choose 'T-Mobile G' then the phone should stay on GSM/EDGE or 3G network, please correct me if I am wrong.

Yes, it gets LTE, but there are issues using the hotspot and having MMS. (I have MMS, but no hotspot. Phone claims it's not activated on my account. Tmobile checked with their engineers and said it's all good on their end; the issue was with Nokia/MS.)
I've read online that if you don't download the access point app, the hotspot works, but MMS settings aren't correct.

hey guys, I dont know if there is a way to make my LG G2 to use LTE as a preffer network, it seems to switch to HSPA+ even though there is LTE connection. If I switch to LTE only via *#*#info#*#* I will get 2 bar of LTE but cant make phone calls, if I switch to LTE/WDCMA it will use LTE then wheen i make a call it would not switch back to LTE.

Hi! Any one uses or used Moto Z on T-Mobile and can confirm VoLTE, Band 12 and maybe WiFi calling?
I can confirm that Band 12 is supported as that's all I get where I live. It appears to have VoLTE as there's an option to enable "Enhanced 4G LTE Mode" which has a descriptor of "Use LTE services to improve voice and other communications (recommended)." Also, I believe one of the requirements from T-Mobile for unlocked devices to use Band 12 is VoLTE capability in order to access E911 services. There's no wifi-calling on the unlocked model.

Thanks for the info! Some of my other phones although did have VoLTE in the settings as you described above, but that feature never worked.
1) So Band 12 is there
2) No WiFi Calling
3) As for VoLTE, could you check if it is really working? Disconnect from wifi, make sure LTE indicator is showing and try to make a call and see if your LTE indicator is still showing or it has changed to a lower indicator 3g or 4g.

VoLTE definitely works. I can hear it when I call people who have T-Mobile because it uses "HD-Voice". It's a shame about the Wifi calling, but you won't find it on any phone that T-Mobile doesn't sell directly because they need to have custom builds of software in order to function. I think it should be a lot easier to enable with just a Wifi APN or something, but maybe that is coming in the future. Also the Wifi calling was honestly buggy as hell on my S7E, it would echo, mute one of the callers, not transfer to LTE when I left range, and video call would freeze.

Hello
since i have unlocked the bootloader.... i cannot use VOLTE calling but i can still access the LTE services (Jio SIM)
any help for enabling VOLTE will be much appreciated
Just noticed that when I place a call, my network drops from LTE to 4g (HSPA). My VoLTE toggle in the call settings is on. Never had an issue here with other T-Mobile devices that support VoLTE.
Any ideas why my VoLTE is not working? Is there something I need to check in the APN?
Thanks.

Care to post your APNs so we can compare?
What band so you normally connect to in your area?
That functionality should work out of the box.
