Not sure if this this the right place to ask, but maybe someone can point me in the right direction. I'm looking for an app that will either "mascaraed" as a camera, or maybe some sort of feature that can be enabled or whatnot that will allow me to select a jpg file and pass it to the initiating app. For example, when I want to change my profile picture, some apps automatically start the camera app and won't let you just select a file. I want to force the option to select a file. Anyone know of anything like this? It would be awesome if this bypass could feed whatever image into whatever api or driver or however apps obtain camera data. I'm thinking something that can even slip a file into apps that have their own camera utility for capturing photos.

Hi
For security reasons i am not allowed to have a camera phone in work. Is there any way possible that i can remove any software or icons which are camera related by maybe tweaking the registry or running a software program that will deactivate
it for me ?.
Obviously i will have to visibly make the camera look as if it is not able to take pictures but i would also like the additional feature of disabling the software.
Thanks in advance

using a file manager like resco file explorer, navigate to Start Menu\Programs\Multimedia and delete Camcorder and Camera,
this will remove the camera and camcorder shortcuts from your start menu
if you cant see them there, try showing hidden files... worked for me!
when i get home i can copy the links onto this post for you when you need them again..
or you could move the shortcuts onto a folder that wouldnt be looked at?
Tesh
Any further info is most welcome.
Thanks
I'm going to have to say that if it has the hardware they will not allow it. Just because you remove the software who's to say you can't reinstall it to have a functioning camera again.

As a government employee, that's correct. The rule is enforced based upon hardware, not software. Obviously, it will very from company to company, but usually it is based upon hardware.
I've successfully removed the camera icons as described in a previous post but from within "pictures and Video" and "Albums" it is still possible to take a picture.
Is there possibly a way to disable the camera by editing the registry ?.
I fully understand the technicalities of leaving the camera physically intact but i need your help disabling it software wise.
All suggestions appreciated.
regards
Before you go through all the trouble you might want to ask a higher up whether they will even let it fly . I have serious reservations about them allowing it.
I think I'd be tempted to leave the HD2 at home and just get yourself a cheapo
phone sans camera for work....
There will be times when you need your camera on the HD2,holidays,nights out,
updating your Tweets etc etc
in the registry, go to key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Pictures\Camera\OEM\DisablingConditions]
and set value of "CSPValue" entry to 1
Hey guys! Does anyone know of a widget or app (preferably an app) that will display ONLY a specific SUBSET of images/photos?
Most gallery apps, when opened, will go to a directory of image sets/folders which you can then open from there. I am looking for an app that will NOT give that option, but instead will ONLY display the 1-100 (actually I only want to display about 10) specific images/photos that I choose ahead of time.
Also, ideally, I would be able to have multiple instances with separate links/widgets that will each point to their own specific closed gallery.
Let me know of you've come across anything like that.
Thanks!

So basically what your saying is....
When you open Gallery, it shows folders X, Y, and Z.
What you want is an app that, when pressed, opens ONLY folder Y with no option to open X or Z. And be able to change it yourself so when you open that app, it shows folder Z without the option to view folder X and Y.
Correct?
A possible idea to make it so YOU can change what folder it opens but others can't would be....
It automatically opens a folder, "PicturesApp" by default. And the way you would change it is to go into something like Root Explorer, find the folder that you want to show pictures within, and rename that folder to "PicturesApp". So when you open the app, it looks for a folder called PicturesApp and opens that.
That sounds awesome. I'll give that a try.
I'm also considering building either html5 galleries hosted on my web domain, or maybe flash files that will open when clicked, but I will try your method first. Thanks!
Anyone have any other ideas?
Before buying my One X+, I used to own an HTC Desire HD.
In the Internet app, whenever I wanted to share a picture (say on Whatsapp, GMail, Viber or any other program) I used to long-press on the image, and from the popup menu, I would select "share image with", then from the new popup screen I would choose the program I want to choose said image from.
Now, with Jellybean, my only options are to:
Save image
View image
Set as wallpaper
or
Share link
no "share picture"
And unless I'm mistaken, this should be bugging a whole lot of other people too, as this is not limited to the Internet app, but the same applies to Chrome (where the only 3 options for an image long-press are "save, open or open in new tab"
Because of this, I now have to save the file, go to Whatsapp or to the Gallery app, select the picture, and share the picture, then when i'm done, i have to delete the pic from the gallery, because well... i don't like to pile up stuff i no longer need.
I searched the forum and the web, and couldn't find a fix for it.
Which is worse, either very little people are raising this issue, or I'm unable to find these posts... everybody with Jelly Bean is suffering from this problem, but Googleing for "share image with option directly from browser on Jelly Bean" doesn't really yield that many relevant results! The keywords are just too generic!!!
So my question is: Can this situation be remedied by some sort of add-on to Chrome Mobile, a custom apk that modifies Chrome's sharing options or something???
PS: I know I can share the URL of the picture, but that's not the point now, is it? I want to be able to share the picture, not its URL.
Update: I just installed Firefox Browser for Android, and it has the option to share an image directly from the browser! It's a pity I won't be using Chrome anymore since it's super fast and it allows for bookmarks sharing between my laptop and phone, but well... I guess I'll have to make do with Firefox for now.
I don't get it though... why would Firefox have the option enabled and Chrome be so retarded that way? Pity! Firefox even has an extension that allows for a full-screen experience, like with the Internet app!
Chrome needs to improve on these basic stuff real soon!!! For many, like myself, not being able to directly share images from the browser is a deal-breaker (as soon as I found a browser that could)
I want to be able to intercept a frame that will be displayed to the user and modify it, ideally.
However, if there is a way to access a frame before it is displayed and insert an overlay, then that might be what I'm looking for too.
What I want to do is detect objects(say an apple) on the screen (where ever they might be, in a video that is playing or in a post in Facebook app) and then highlight them.
I'm willing to try anything from creating an app to modifying the source files of a custom ROM.
Is there any way I can achieve this?
Hello Folks,
This is my first post. I'm a vivid reader of your forum and generally really like in-depth advice is given around here.
Hopefully, there's also a solution for what I'm going to describe now.
I know that there are quite a few users that would like to use Smart Select more efficiently, so I hope that my idea can break the ice.
My Device: Android 10 based Note 9 device, non-root.
I want to be able to use Samsung Smart Select to crop an image and save it to clipboard.
I already tried to share it with the clipboard with third-party apps but it seems Samsung Smart Select doesn't utilize the clipboard.
Apparently, the only working option is to save the picture to the gallery.
In many cases just saving to the clipboard is not supported by Smart Select. Say I want to add a file to a folder in One Note.
Smart Select only allows me to add what's cropped to a new note and not to an already existing one.
Now that I couldn't find another way to do it, I thought to myself, is it possible to use tasker to automate the following steps?
1. Crop with Smart Select and normally safe/share to a specific predefined folder.
2. Let Tasker add the newest file in that folder to the clipboard.
3. I can just paste whatever is in the clipboard in any given app.
If that works, can someone tell me how to do that, please?
Best,
Mario
