Is anyone having similar problems. I have flashed an open kirin rom. After that I haven't been able to factory reset the phone using the stock recovery and it keeps looping. The factory reset option seems to be blurred out and I can't access it
What should I do in this scenario ?
TIA
Do you have flashed recovery_ramsdisk with Magisk?
In that case, you may have to restore the stock recovery
When I trieed, I noitced that eRecovery boots Recovery to factory reset and wipe. Which was not possible with the falshed magisk....
Good luck,
Peter

I've seen a few posts for other phone models doing this but their steps to fix aren't helping me. I've tried installing other recoveries and reapplying roms. nothing helping.
[update] I've progressed further and got into my ROM but now when I try to reboot either into recovery or a standard reboot it does some ROM recovery functions and will say say:
Android System recovery do not pull out battery
format data
format cache
factory reset
rebooting
then boots back into my ROM
getting further. I was transitioning back from aosp rom's to a froyo rom. took a while to get some order down to get a xionia recovery on and fix the factory reset loop then get a froyo rom and kernel on the phone
Factory Reset in download mode vs. TWRP Factory Reset (Wipe)
What are the differences between them? I feel like I experienced different results between the 2. for example, I had no data and phone signals for the last few days and tried TWRP Wipe many times with no avail. Then when i did the factory reset from the download screen it seemed to fix the issue. This could all be a coincidence and probably is.
I thought that since I have a custom recovery the factory reset in the download screen does not do anything different than the TWRP one. I'm sure I'm wrong. Enlighten me please.
I have a question that must be obvious to many but I don't know the answer and am curious.
Right now I am rooted and if I want to install a new rom I do the factory reset and wipe caches in recovery and then install the custom rom.
What happens if
1. I do this reset and clear caches within recovery and just reboot without installing a rom?
2. What happens if I do a factory reset with settings?
I know the phone will start in setup mode but will it have the last rom I installed or what?
If you're wiping system too, then the phone won't boot - except to recovery if you tell it to. If you're not wiping system but you're wiping data, then the phone will boot but be like you just installed it new for the first time and you have to set it up.
I'm not positive what Factory Reset within settings will do, if it works or not, when you have a custom recovery installed. Normally under a completely stock ROM with stock recovery, Factory Reset from Settings or from the stock recovery would wipe everything but system. It wipes Data, Cache, Dalvik, and internal storage. You can achieve the same thing from custom recovery if you wish to. And yes, as long as you didn't wipe System, the last ROM you had installed would boot.
Doing a factory reset from settings with twrp installed should be like doing a factory reset in twrp. TWRP will takeover when the phone restarts to do the factory reset. At least that is how it was with my Moto X phones. I've done it with Jasmine on my G3, but don't remember the outcome. It was only a few days ago too. Lol. I'm a retard.

Hello... so ugh I have a rather problematic S7 (SM-G930F) that would automatically go to recovery and not boot to Android. I figured I could fix that if I re-flashed firmware but it turns out that wasn't the case
After Odin reported a successful flash it booted to recovery again instead of trying to boot into Android, recovery mode also displayed some sort of verification errors?
Here is a picture of the recovery mode, other than that i don't have any other clues as to what maybe wrong

Do a factory reset in the recovery menu.

Doing a factory reset does not belp. Nor does flashing a brand new stock ROM which is rather bizarre
Hi,
I have Unnihertz Titan (Mediatek based) and I sucesfuly flashed TWRP by using a guide and got root via Magisk. Everything was working fine, I tried to restore some partial backups and it failed, so I tried Factory reset. Didn't worked from TWRP (now I know that because /data partition was encrypted), so I tried from settings. That was huge error. Now I'm stuck in the loop, bootloader tries to run recovery to do Factory reset, but the alpha TWRP I installed doesn't react and what is worse it doesn't clear the request for Factory reset so even after wiping /data and cache, I still end up in TWRP and not system. Any idea where the request for Factory reset might be stored?
Ok, found it, it was in `para` partition and all I had to do was erase it using fastboot.
