I dug up an old phone, a ZTE Avail 2, and have been trying to get this device rooted for a while. I've tried using Cydia impactor for Linux, it didn't work. I tried Cydia impactor on a Windows 10 VM, still didn't work. Tried many "one click root" apps for Linux, Windows, and Android, all haven't worked.
If it's of any help the phone runs Android 4.1.2.
The device doesn't have Fastboot or download mode (and if it does I haven't found it) so a custom recovery is a no go without root.
Please help me!
I guess I didn't try all the "one click root"s, because I've done it! I got root access!
For anyone who has the device and wants to root it just use Rootmaster, you can download it at rootmasterdl(dot)com
(I can't post link because I'm a new user)
remember! rooting with apps(with locked bootloader) and not with custom recovery(unlocked bootloader) might be dangerous.so be careful!! root with locked bootloader is risky!!

Hi,
Is it possible to root without an exploit? I am trying to use fastboot but fastboot devices shows empty. Even the command oem unlock shows "Waiting for device". Heimdahl is not supported for my device i.e. GT-S6312. All the custom ROM installation in the forum shows using a exploit to root the device. Any information on this is much appreciated.
Thanks.

Hello, my friend. Wolcome to the forums. You got the things wrong you are mixing up some informations. Basically you involved 2 concepts here rooting and unlocking the bootloader (oem unlock). I have an Lg phone and i am not familiar with Samsung devices.
Rooting means by finding a security hole (like an exploit or a way to mess with permission) to let you get root and system files access (super user). This is like being on an Administrator account on Windows.
Unlocking the bootloader (the command you said oem unlock from what i know is used on Lg devices but i might be wrong; this command works just for some devices, not all) means to modify the bootloader so it will alow modified operating systems or modified code to be runned. A locked bootloader (most of the devices have this, some can be unlocked some not) means that you cannot load anything that is not signed by your phone company.
To flash a custom rom you need to be rooted, have an unlocked bootloader (so you can flash a custom recovery like TWRP, CWM etc.) and then to flash a custom rom (like Cyanogen Mod, Miui etc) and in some cases a custom kernel (boot.img).
I searched around and found how to root your device and install CWM and found some custom roms. Please next time use the Search function.
Root+CWM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2330644
1 Custom ROM i found (use Search button maybe you can find more): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51520354
ALWAYS flash only roms for your device and closely follow the instructions on those pages!
Hope i helped you. If so hit the THANKS button!
Have a nice day

I do not want to use Framaroot.apk as I don't have the source for it and don't know if there are exploits for rooting the device. Is there any other method for this?

Rooting includes exploits that is how root is obtained man. With normal things you can't get root. You exploit a security hole to get the super user acces. This can be made by flashing a root file, by an insecure kernel and some kind of exploit in CPU i think (not sure but this is what Framaroot uses i think). Framaroot is not a defenitive root you can unroot it. Every method for root needs an exploit (depends what kind). Framaroot is safe go with that. A lot of people using that. Good luck.
hey guys this is my first post so if a break any rules please let me know, decided to try rooting my phone but it seems either they patched it or im doing something wrong. i have tried everything from rooting conected to the computer (one click roots, root genie and one that made me think i was doing it well until it told me i had to pay) to computerless root apps Kingroot framaroot etc king root just stops and says root failed and frama says phone is not vulnerable. i really wish to learn how towork my phone and do cools stuff so if anyone would like to take me under their wing i will be forever grateful.
Most of those one click roots don't work on this device. Kingroot is the only one that has any reports of working on the M8, and reports are mixed.
In short, the way to root this phone is unlock the bootloader by HTCDev.com, install custom recovery TWRP, then flash SuperSU to obtain root.
Good detailed guide is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2799796
Although its pretty outdated, so some updates and comments:
- If you have HTC Sync installed on your computer (and you probably do since you connected your phone to your computer), you already have HTC drivers installed, so no need to do that.
- Use a newer version TWRP (recommend 3.0.0.0): https://dl.twrp.me/m8/
- Use a newer version SuperSU (2.65 is latest stable version): https://download.chainfire.eu/921/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.65-20151226141550.zip

Just finished fighting same battle. Mine was a little more difficult as my phone screen was blacked out and I was working blind. However, I finally made it work using adb and fastboot from command prompt. If you follow the directions exactly, it works and is not all that hard. Hang in there. If you have specific questions, let me know and I will be happy to see if I can help.
Hi just wondering has any one had any luck rooting the Alcatel Pixi Theatre from Cricket? I've tried all of the one clicks I could find and adb with no luck. If anyone has had any success could you please share how you were able to do it?
I know this is an older comment, but this phone has similar specs to the Alcatel Flint which people have been able to root using KingRoot.
Rooting Alcatel devices is easy.
Try iRoot for Windows , it can easily root your android
I finally got rooted with kingroot. Too chicken to try and put recovery on it though.

You cannot do that!
1. You have to rooting completely
2. For any flashing recovery programs it's recommend busybox
3. If you have a luck and have installed busybox, you'll receive a err after a restart: your display isn't in good resolution with this scheme
4. You cannot rooting again your phone, because the Android OS isn't with original structure
5. All of that - because there's no have any idea how to unlock the boot section
6. If you are incredible guy (I don't think so) - If you rooted - what? Do you have any opportunity of another ROM's,!!ORIGINAL ROM!!, also you don't have any custom or original recovery.
So what is great in this case?
apache07x Can you explain to us how you realize this rooting + recover please!
Does anyone use these phones anymore even? I used kingroot to root mine. I can't remember specifically what I did to achieve it. I think when it reboots it failed and I just tried again without rebooting and it stuck if I remember correctly. I never did put recovery on it as none were compatible when I had this phone. May be something that is compatible nowadays though.
Hello!
I bought for my wife a Huawei Y5II phone (CUN -L21...B115). And I try to root, so that I can mount some folders on the external SD card:
1. I tried every application like KingRoot, KingoRoot, One click root, framaroot, SRS Root etc... but none of them worked.
2. There is no custom recovery for my model and software number
3. I have unlocked bootloader
Important info: I am a programmer (in VB.NET) but also I don't know very deep aspects of Android, so that I can write code by myself.
Is there anyway of manually putting binaries into their respective places? through adb and fastboot?
Or can I get an OTA update and modify it to include Super SU?
According to https://forum.xda-developers.com/app...-file-t3238991 , it might be possible to manually install the su binary. But I tried "adb root" and nothing happened.
P.S. believe me that I have searched a lot on XDA adn also on internet , but no luck...
Thank you
I watch both of them... On one I already commented.
KingRoot doesn't work (for me and for others. Also stated in original post)
And the custom recovery also doesn't work.
Thank you.. Tried with 5 recoveries.. Doesn't work...
you've been able to install recovery?
Hi, everyone. I've successfully rooted several Android phones in the past, but this one's got me stumped. Has anyone successfully rooted this specific model, and if so, how?
I have a J1 mini prime, specifically a J106M. It is running Marshmallow 6.0.1 with a pending update that I've paused. I was under the impression the bootloader would be unlocked since it's not tied to a carrier. I now assume it isn't because I've tried:
kingoroot, kingroot, iRoot, towelroot (doesn't work with modstring codes either), latest framaroot (device not vulnerable to exploits error), framaroot 1.5.3 (same error), chainfire (causes soft brick bootloop, but has since been restored).
I can't even figure out how to verify if the bootloader is unlocked for sure. I tried using ADB. cd fastboot command simplay restarts the phone, and fastboot oem unlock command my phone or just sits there saying "waiting for device."
When I boot the phone holding down the volume, home, and power buttons, it brings me to a blue screen that I believe is Odin mode. Others seem to get a different screen that has the bootloader info right there.
It's been a few weeks since I've had time to mess with this. I'm pretty sure that's everything I attempted.
To verify, I have developer mode on, OEM unlocking on, debugging on, allow unknown sources on.
Other specs:
Baseband version : J106MUBU0AQF1
Kernel: 3.10.65-11653963
Build: MMB29Q_J106MUBU0AQF2
Thanks in advance to anyone who can assist a semi-noob. I've never posted on a forum before, and I'm not usually one to ask for help, but I'm out of ideas here lol.
Hello Bahamut,
Are you familar with the Odin tool flashing Samsung firmware? If yes, there is a universal root method Magisk root. There are two ways to root using Magisk:
1. install a TWRP recovery (flash by Odin) & install Magisk Root using TWRP recovery
2. Extract boot.img from the firmware; modify it by Magisk apk; flash the modified img by Odin.
Both ways successfully rooted my Samsung J3 Pro. I've google search for a while & see firmware/TWRP are available for your device J106M.
You should study Odin, Magisk before you go ahead.
Thanks. Somewhat familiar, I was saving that as a last resort out of apprehension that I completely brick the device lol I used Odin when attempting the chainfire files.
I forgot I had downloaded TWRP at one point, but I must be missing something because it appears to be a catch 22 as TWRP was asking for root access in the first place to perform this function. Is there a work around such as using a PC version instead of the app or am I just way off base here?
If TWRP recovery has a problem, you could try method 2 which involve Odin flashing only.

Unfortunately, the Odin flashing is how I wound up soft-bricking it twice and decided I'd need assistance on this model. I was hoping someone could walk me through it with the specifics, but I guess this isn't a very popular phone.:
