kernel source out but still no custom 4oms - Redmi K20 / Xiaomi Mi 9T Guides, News, & Discussio

And this thread is helpful how? It will take time, as anything else.

This might not be the most popular/widespread model, and so custom rom development will be slow/limited. Most will probably jump for the "big gun" K20 PRO with SD855 seing the price difference is small, unless they need the extra global LTE bands.

It seems to be supported by xiaomi.eu though? or does this not qualify as a custom rom for some reason?
stable version:
The MI9T / K20 / davinci does not appear in the supported devices list over here, but it does show up in the downloads section over here
weekly:
It does show up in the supported devices list over here, but does not show up in the downloads section here.
So I'm not sure what's going on here.

Me too i was confused, and i have ask question about support, in k20/mi9t device forum thread .
they said that it is supported.
and on xiaomi site about downloads roms, k20/mi9t has only global stable, while chines version has developer 9.6.20. and if it is xeu rom based on chines, i dont know why there is no at least xeu developer 9.6.20 version of rom.

Kernel source also broke, that's not helpful for building custom roms.

I think global rom =indian rom and for Chinese only release build is created

Stable Roms without missing features?

I wanted to ask, witch Roms are stable and support all features of Kenzo.
It seems that in several Roms there are different Problems,
from wakelocks and Battery drain,
over Wifi Problems
to missing Fingerprint or VolTE support.
Is it a Problem with Android 6.0 or also with 5.1 based Roms?
This should be in the Questions & Answers section. However, I have official CM 13.0 and I haven't encountered any of the problems that you mentioned above. If you read instructions carefully and understand what you're doing, you won't have any trouble as long as the rom you are flashing supports those features. If you head over to the Android Development section, you can see the features that each rom does and doesn't support. If the OP says it is supported but you can't get it to work, then the problem comes from your side. Before flashing make sure you have read and understood the required steps and have taken all the necessary precautions to avoid ending up with a "bricked" device. Let me know if you have any trouble.

Thanks for your reply,
yes i know what im doing (had Nexus 4 and flashed it more than a hundred times).
I normally check first post (+ following from OP) and the last sites of the Thread to see if there are bugs or not (cause "no bugs" in OP-Thread is not always correct).
But if CM13 is, so far, bug free and full featured (fingerprint and so on) than i will give it a try.

It is. I've been using it for almost 1 month now, and I can say it's probably the most stable and complete rom for me. I also flashed the CM 13.0 supported firmware along with Radon Kernel and the device is blazing fast. As for the battery, I can get 1 week+ with minimal usage, and about 2-3 days with heavy usage which is pretty impressive for a hexa-core device with a 1080p screen.

I was wondering about this "firmware" thing, never had to upgrade any software. Normaly just flash the Rom.
I was also wondering what's the difference to the unofficial CM13

Well, if you are going to flash this rom you are going to have to flash the appropriate firmware too, since CM is based on it. If you flash the rom without flashing the firmware, you might end up with missing options in settings (I tried this and the "fingerprints" tab was missing). As soon as I flashed the firmware everything got fixed. Also, an official rom means that it is developed by a member or a group of members that have created the original project, while unofficial roms can be built by anyone. For example I can take a CM build and customize it the way i want and then release it to the public. This makes it an unofficial rom, since I'm not a member of the CM development team. But if a rom or an update releases on the CM website, then it is considered to be official.
By the way about the VoLTE support, quoting from OP Q&A:
Q) Is VoLTE supported? (Also useful if you have GApps related problems).
A) No. We use all proprietary blobs from MIUI Marshmallow alpha 'leaked' builds and those builds itself do not have it working. So we'll have to wait until Xiaomi fixes it in their marshmallow builds in future. Also we can't fallback to old LP radio blobs/libs and are not suited with current setup. #blamexiaomi

I guess you'll have to wait for Xiaomi to release a stable working MM build if you want voLTE support. :/

Custom ROM development...

Realme 1 will be popular among developers for sure.XDA acknowledged it by opening a page for our device even before its sale has started. So all that is good.
Now coming to the problems,
We all know that mediatek is infamous for not releasing kernel sources. That makes it difficult for the developers to build custom ROMs.
On a more positive note since the realme one is based on 8.1 Oreo,I am guessing that its project treble compatible(somebody please confirm this) which makes the custom ROM development easier.
So the final question,
Will we get fully working custom ROMs of future android versions even if oppo and mediatek does not release kernel sources? Will project treble help in doing that??
You most probably will not. Snapdragon phones have better development, for example, the Redmi 4A did not have kernel source till recently, yet we had bugless Nougat ROMs, and now with source we have Oreo. It all depends on developer support, Oppo is not a brand that interests developers, on top of that it is a Mediatek phone, your custom ROM dreams may well be shattered. A few ported ROMs may be made if any developer decides to make it but will most likely be too buggy.

True. But oppo has never released a phone like this.
This phone has the same chipset(helio p60) of oppo f7 which is two times more costly than the realme 1.Therefore it offers immense value for money. And this will attract a lot of customers.Normally when a device has a huge customer base and if it is a value for money device, developers usually become interested in those devices.
Also I know know that both mediatek and oppo have violated GPL many times by not releasing the sources. But since this device is treble compatible,it should solve that problem to a certain extent right?
I am open to discussion...

Yes it will help, as project treble is a initiative by Google to help developers create custom roms without approaching Vendor(Oppo) or the Manufacturer(Mediatek).

I don't need root access, but there are issues with Color OS 5.
Like:
1. New notification pop appear for 3-4 seconds and you cannot swipe and close them, you need to wait to automatically close them, hampering your work. In other OS you can simply swipe left/right/both to close popup.
2. If you enable development option, then yellow notification will show constantly to close it, until you close mode. Why can't I use function like mock location, etc.
3. If you use app which use accessibility services (like Greenify) then it will constantly show notifcation bar sign to close, it means you cannot use Developer Mode or Accessibility Services Apps.
Hope Oppo will fixes these issues with Color OS in future updates.

It confirmed via email. The reply is given below:
"Thank you for writing to RealMe Customer Service regarding Project Treble inquiry.
We are delighted to inform you that your RealMe 1 device supports Project Treble. It is already enabled in your device."
But after some researchs i realised that even if it could support project treble, we still can't flash GSI rom with a locked bootloader. (Correct me if it is a wrong findings)

You need to wait for kernel sources to get released so devs can work on custom roms. If we get a TWRP recovery, you can try out the A/B GSI roms which are good but slightly buggy. If you want a bugfree rom, you need to wait a while, maybe a month or so.
Thanks bro when can we expect releases of kernel source another quarter

Custom rom

sadly there is no one rom available for this device why?
نo
What do you expect from the custom ROM? Are there any serious bugs in the official ROM? Do you lack any specific features?
So far Realme provides regular updates, I haven´t noticed any serious bugs, save for battery drain, which I hope they fix in the next update. Why would you need custom ROM so badly anyway?
