Emui 9.1 & Watch 2 Battery Life - Huawei Mate 20 Pro Questions & Answers

Has anyone with a Huawei Watch 2 and updated their Mate 20 Pro to Emui 9.1 seen their watch battery life massively suffer as a result?
Ever since updating, I'm now lucky to get a day out of my watch, whereas before I was getting 2 days.
I haven't changed any settings and both watch and phone have had hard resets.

I've only ever seen about a day out of my watch 2 and I'm on Android 9.0.

If you look online there are some handy battery saving tips, like disabling 'ok google' detection, etc. This might help you to get more than a day out of it (will obviously depend on how you use it as well).

Battery life a few days after 5.0

The first couple days saw a boost in battery life for me. I always have the screen on, and where I used to see about 22 hrs, I was trending closer to 30. Now, it is only lasting about 16. Not sure what gives...has anyone else noticed this?
Before the update I could get about a day and a half if I forgot to charge. With the update I can't go a whole day!!! I haven't changed anything, just installed the OTA update and ran with it. No face changes, no new apps, nada.

My battery actually got worse too although I can still easily make it through a day. But that's it. I use stock watch face and actually removed extra apps. Only have mini launcher, wear battery, and this lock screen app that I use once in a while. All of which have been updated to 5.0 it seems.
Besides battery live I really don't like the new notifications and the random hangouts messages missing. The screen turning off by it self sometimes. I wish I could figure out how to go back to 4.4.
My battery life has also gotten extremely terrible. I upgraded about a week ago to 5.0.1 and just yesterday I noticed that my G watch was not lasting like before. I took my watch off the charger at 7am and it died at 2:15pm. That’s pretty horrible. When I checked the watch at 12pm I was still around 67% so it’s hard to believe that the battery dropped so fast in that amount of time. I’ve already did a factory reset this morning but when I get home I’m going to flash the rom again; after it charges.
This watch was rock solid on 4.4.2. It’s odd that this issue just started days after I upgraded.
I too have been having this issue. I have only been up for an hour and it is already at 92%. I am resetting my device now and I will post back again today or tomorrow if it better or not.
Hi Guys, Having the same problem. battery life was very solid after the update , but in the past days, it's very bad - took it off the charger today at 9AM, and by 6PM it's on 23%.
I did a factory reset, removed Facer and Watchmaker, and nothing helped.
Yeah so I am already at 20% at 2:30 PM EST. That is terrible.... I did a factory Reset and re-synced my programs (Wear Mini Launcher is the only thing of significance). Still facing the same problem. Any other ideas?
Is google aware of this problem? any product page for the G watch in their forum?
Try Gohma 2.2 at http://forum.xda-developers.com/g-watch/development/rom-gohma-2-0-12-15-2014-t2974052
It has 1.5-2 day battery life easy, and other bonuses.
I am not sure if Google or LG know about the problem. I couldn't find a forum page on LGs website. I will look some more and will look into loading that Rom as well. Thanks!
Same here.
I acualy bought the watch it got all the updates so i use if for the first day. Horible. 12h screen off. Tilt to turn screen on "off" i use watchmaker.
It realy lasted from 9h to21h... Wtf. I didnt even get any notifications... Kinde of wierd
Try 24H with a stock face
I restored my Nexus 5 to factory default (it was laggy with no connection to Wear), restored my watch and now battery is fairly good with Ambient Mode on and stock watchface - 10 hours of usage, 74%.
update: after 2 days, it went back to being horrible. less than 12 hours with ambient mode on.
Are you getting a ton of notifications? I don't understand 12H battery life at all. I've had some LONG days and I have yet to outlast my watch...

Stratos and IOS12 - battery drain

Anyone notice additionnal battery drain after upgrading their Iphone to IOS12? Or is it the latest Amazfit app update? Since at least two weeks, my watch will retain its charge barely 3 days when before I could get at least 5 days...

I think it is the latest Amazfit update. I use mine just as a Smart watch (no fitness stuff). Was getting 8 days before the update, now I'll get about 4.
Glad these things are tested....

After updating to emui 9. Phone is getting warm and battery life is taking a hit

Maybe it's just one day of using the phone but I have not faced this kind of issues before on Oreo ... The main difference that I am experience after updating to emui 9 is that touch response has become very instant and speed of opening apps for any links for anything has become as smooth as butter and very fast... I mean it's a same hardware but this new update made it very fast... Camera application has Master ai in it... Interface has changed notification panel has changed all the themes that were compatible with e m u i 8 they are not compatible anymore (3rd party) and phone is getting little bit hot from the upper half of the phone on the backside and the battery life which I was getting before.. it's is going down a bit quicker. the main improvement I think is only the speed of opening applications and stuff
mine isn't getting hot, well it is, but it is hot because im playing with the phone more trying to figure out what's changed
In my opinion battery drains much quicker. Before update I' had got 10h SOT, now it's only 7-9h
Same here. Battery consumption has gone up! If only I had known. It was great before, now it's average. Hmmmpf. The first day with Emui 9 was terrible!
I guess the ai isn't that intelligent or at least doesn't care to much about helping the battery...
Is there a way to downgrade? It sucks, first I couldn't wait to update and now I wish I never did..
From the old rom flashing days i can say that battery life should be much better after a few days
A factory reset might help too, but I see no difference in battery life but I only got it for a day so far
For everyone complaining. The software will take a few days to settle. Especially if you do just the update and not the full package download. Relax and let it settle
Since I have gotten the update I found my battery life is actually a little better, I'm getting about 30 minutes more of screen on time. Wireless desktop mode is amazing, the updated camera app with the master AI and the amazing night mode is vastly improved. I'm extremely happy, Emui 9 has made my mate 10 feel like a new phone again.

Did you perform a factory reset after updating?
Guys, once you update from one android version to another, always, always do a factory reset once you set the phone after the update. Making a backing takes less than 10 minutes, doing the factory reset takes around 10 minutes too and restoring all the data is even faster. So, I suggest you spend 30 additional minutes but to do it right.
I did a factory reset and still the phone was draining like crazy.. Couldn't get even 7 hours of SOT.. Even after about 3 days

Yes I did, I had a bunch of Emui 8 themes and wanted to start fresh.
After upgrade, I have also noticed that the phone is getting warm, even during light load like using the camera, gallery, surfing etc. but the situation is much better four days later. Battery life is still not good, 6-7 h SoT at the moment (9-10 h with EMUI 8).

Yes, I will also do a factory reset but without restoring all data because sometimes it restores problems too. I will restore only crucial apps like mobile banking.

Unhappy with Mi 9 battery draining and SOT, thinking about changing for mate 20 ...

Hi all.
I have written a comment to another created threat, but I would like to read your comments here too.
I'm having battery draining and SOT problems with my mi 9, like I said in title (like most people I think).
I have tried everything to improve my battery life in my mi 9, and It's not bad at all, but I was expecting better performance for a top xiaomi smartphone with sd 855 and 5 months old in spite of the fact that it has "only" 3300mah battery ...
I'm not a heavy user and I try to get max SOT and minimum battery drain in all my phones, because I don't like changing smartphones very often and I like to take care of it.
I came from a Moto G4 plus, and I had 5h of SOT in 48h without high standby drainage (maybe 1-2% of drainage overnight in 7-9h) with a 3 years old battery and worst hardware and software. In mi 9, I'm getting 5-6h of SOT in 48-72h. Not bad at all, but standby drainage is awfull. It loses 20-25% of the battery every 48h (3-5% overnight), and in a smartphone with such a fair battery it's a problem. If I'm not getting great results with not heavy use and my smartphone is new, I don't want to think in 2-3 years + mid-heavy use ... I have tried everything (full wipes, reinstalling, the most powerfull battery saving, etc) and I don't have great result. Standby drainage is very hight compared to other phones (I have tried a friend poco f1 and I had 10h in 48-72h with 1% overnight drainage. It was awsome).
And now the question ...
I'm thinking of changing my mi 9 for a huawei mate 20... I still have the 30d Amazon refund and I am not comfortable with my phone's battery.
- Mate 20 pros vs mi 9: +700 mah battery and more efficient, the best ips panel without burn-in problem, and fingerprint sensor behind the screen (no like too much in-screen fingerprint at all).
- Pros mi 9 vs mate 20: sd 855 (but geekbech it's very very similar, and antutu winner is mi 9 only for gamming but mate 20 still on top), unlocking bootloader for mi 9 (better comunity in xda, but if emui works well I think I don't need custom rooms, the problem here is Trump/google vs China ... but now apeares to be solved and we would have newer updates to Android Q), wireless charging (I don't use it because smartphone is hotter when charging 3-5º vs cable+1,5a charger, It takes more time to charge with elevated temperature), not jack (better for waterproof), maybe very little better cameras in mi 9 and little better results, 4 months younger (very little difference) and It's the top phone on xiaomi (mate 20 is the little brother because we have mate 20 pro, 20x, p30, p30 pro and we will have soon mate 20 and mate 20 pro; and that could be worst because we will get latter uptdates in mate 20).
What do you think? Would you change mi 9 for mate 20? Reading your comments. Greetings.
I'm sorry but you're asking about changing a phone on a forum which is meant for custom roms. And Mate 20 bootloader cannot be unlocked. So, i would never change to Huawei or Honor because of that.
Maybe battery life will be better with Android Q update?

I know. But there is a forum for mate 20 in xda too. I want to know your opinion too
Battery in mi 9 (standby drainage) is really bad -.- and mate 20 does not seems bad at all. Maybe between sd 845 and 855 no?
We will see if the drainage is corrected in android Q or not ...
What about xiaomi.eu? same drainage that official?
Thanks for your answer.

I haven't had issues with the Mi 9's battery at all.
Consider flashing Xiaomi.eu.

That's not 20% in 4h. That's 39% usage in 4h. Look at the screen on section and not his current battery percentage.
Come on, how can you even be here on XDA entertaining the idea of having a Huawei? Seriously, you won't be able to unlock that bootloader ever, and that's a HUGE problem.

I know, but I think that if EMUI works well, I think that I will not need to unlock and flash other ROMS. I think that it doesn't exist the perfect smartphone. Thanks for answering

I have just read it. I found 2 new tips I didn' know. Thank you. I'll try.
I could add some new tips I have found this days:
- Deactivate in developer options, the last two options (something like MIUI optimizations and alert)
- If you install Quickshorcut and search "installed apps" you can find a new option unaccesible in MIUI and you can disable some extra apps.
- Disable google assistant: in config/aditional options/quick access to buttons
- Disable voice match google in google app/settings/voice/voice match (disable voice match and unlock with voice match)
- If you hold any app in your android desktop you can restrict background app selecting the "i" for info/battery/backgroud restrict (you need to do that in every app)
- Uninstall facemoji keyboard: open it an use it some 2-5 min, and when it apeares in battery usage, you can uninstall it.
- More battery optimizations for apps in: config/aditional settings/privacy/special access to apps/battery optimization.
Have a nice day

Note 20 Ultra (Exynos version) - Big battery draining issue

Dear XDA members;
So, I've bought note 20 ultra a few weeks ago (refurbished, great condition!)
I've switched from Galaxy Fold 1 and from what I'm seeing, the battery life is almost 2x more horrid!
I've been trying to use it in order for it to get adjusted to my patterns, still, nothing special happened after weeks of usage.
I've tried everything - naptime + turning off adaptive battery; turning it back on and deep sleeping the apps, changing the settings for maximum battery life etc. Wiped the cache and reset my phone, still nothing. NOTHING helps!
I've even decided to buy a new battery! My battery life is still horrible. Based on the reviews, I should be getting decent battery life, however, it is about 2.5-3h of SoT... Idle battery drain is also insane...
I'm using android 13 and I've noticed that a lot of people seem to write that it's the problem.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I install some custom rom? If so, which one would you suggest?
I REALLY love this phone and I REALLY want it's battery to last for at least 4-5h of SoT...
Thanks A LOT in advance!
Best regards!
I think sadly that's normal for the Exynos phone. It was always the thing fro me, I've had it since November 2020. My screen and battery were changed a month before the 2 year warranty ran out, and with a new battery I still get around 2-3 hours of SOT
3h sot is ok!I still have ny N20 but iḿ using a Google Pixel Pro,new!and 3 h ,perhabs a little bit more is what it gives!I will keep my N20 ;its a mess what Samsung is doing! And this for many years! For example;my Note 3 or my Note 4 were wonderful Phones, realy! With new Baterys they can do a good job ,eveb in 2023 with Androis 13,they give **** of this! And so i quitt Samsung, leider!
