Unlocked T-Mobile S5 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

Hey all I was wondering if I can use my Verizon s10+ sim card on my old s5? I've read through some of the forums and people say that's u can't because of the bands is that true? I decided to put my sim card in my s5 and I set up the APN settings and I get 4G LTE but I can't make calls or send mms. Is there a way to fix this?

Those individuals were correct as the S10+ uses the CDMA Frequencies and the S5 uses the GSM Frequencies...
Your Carrier registered your SIM & S10+ by correlating the SIM number with the S10+ IMEI (aka Serial Number).
If you place your S10+ SIM card within a Galaxy S5 and power up your S5, the Carriers system will see a good SIM card but, a different IMEI number.
Also, their system will see the difference as well for the set Frequencies set for the SIM card and the Frequencies of the devices as they differ enough whereas your going to get Internet data & MMS capabilities (hence the 4G LTE) but, your not going to get the Phone & SMS from their system.
The following link is an example of the comparisons between the two (please note the "Mobile networks and data" category):

I hope that I had explained this okay via text...

If I had to choose which Samsung Galaxy S5 device will work with a SIM from the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus (just as an example in your situation)...
I would just stick with the Verizon Variant of the S5 (SM-G900V) since the SIM is specific for the Verizon Carrier. I just can't guarantee anything personally but, this is what I would do.
https://www.phonemore.com/compare/p...-samsung-galaxy-s10-plus-sm-g975u-1tb/9745809
OR as a last resort, the only other Samsung Galaxy S5 device that should/might work would be the International Variant of the Samsung Galaxy S5 (SM-G900F). This variant has a very broad range of Frequencies that encompasses much/most of what the other variants have.
I can't guarantee the International variant since, out of all the Galaxy devices I have ever owned (and still own most of them), I've never personally owned an International variant myself (though I plan on getting one sometime soon).
This is about the best guidance as I can provide myself. I do wish you the best of luck!

[Q] i9300 and Straight Talk

Any US owners of the i9300 (that's the non-US/International) version of the S3 using the Straight Talk service? I've been looking into them as a way to get some 3G data access for two weeks, but their customer service folks just replied saying that my S3 won't work because it's not a US model.
Looking at the specs seems to show that my S3 will support their frequencies, but I'm wondering if there's some kind of clever device block in place.

I'm using it, it works fine. You need to choose AT&T-Compatible SIM when you buy a SIM, otherwise most of the time they'll send you a T-Mobile SIM if you choose for them to pick it automatically. Also, this wouldn't affect whether or not you get 3G/HSPA+, but make sure when you fill in the APN, you don't fill in any proxy information except for MMS proxy.

Many thanks. :good: I think their CS folks are about as good as the ones for the carriers over here - since their emailed advice contradicts what the website says:
BRING AN AT&T OR T-MOBILE COMPATIBLE GSM PHONE, OR AN UNLOCKED GSM PHONE
Make sure it operates on our compatible frequencies (850 and 1900 MHz)

And according to http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/mobile-devices/smartphones/android/GT-I9300MBDBTU-spec the International (UK spec in my case) S3 supports "850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100".
Again, thanks for taking the time out to reply. Maybe see if I can use a local Walmart's click n' collect service to get the SIM+minutes card when I get over to Orlando.

Accidentally thanked you.
Yes, you have to make sure the SIM card isn't for T-Mobile's network. Until recently Straight Talk was only offering this SIM, so your best bet would be to buy an AT&T compatible SIM from their website.

<rant> Verizon and att use different networks, that will never work, especially with a LOCKED phone. Also, this is the forum for the international s3 (i9300), not the verizon s3. </rant>
Pick up the straight talk activation kit, Verizon uses CDMA signal, not GSM.

The Verizon S3 supports GSM though (their LTE devices from the Rezound [2010 or 11] onwards do). Their LTE devices also come factory unlocked out of the box due to a deal that Verizon made with the FCC in order to be able to use the 750 MHz LTE spectrum. Long story short, Verizon LTE devices will get EDGE and HSPA+ (no LTE) on AT&T. It supports the same bands as the i9300.

Is the VZW Galaxy S4 SIM and APN unlocked out of the box?

Hey everyone,
I just searched this topic and didn't find any definitive answers so I thought I'd ask...
Anyways is the VZW Galaxy S4 SIM unlocked out of the box? I keep reading the new VZW releases in 2012 and onwards are according to the VZW forums and website but then I found a post of someone asking VZW for an unlock. It its an official code its easier to just ask VZW as I meet all the requirements (1+ year customer). Also I read that on the S3 the APN settings are blocked on the default VZW firmware unless rooted. Is the APN settings on the S4 open (changeable) by default?
Also what's a realistic battery life you guys are getting out of this phone?
Am comparing phones and need a phone that is:
1. SIM Unlocked and APN settings changable that has VZW's US CDMA and LTE bands PLUS ALL the international bands (the 4 GSM and 4 UMTS international bands).
2. Has HSPA+21 at least.
3. Long battery life to last the day.
4. Rootable so I can get rid of VZW crap and increase the battery life.
I've also not seen any international VZW phones with HSPA+42 dual carrier like Apple's iPhone 5. I'm also debating getting a Android versus iOS phone...

Recently took my S4 to Brazil and spent a fair bit of time talking to Verizon Global Support before the trip. One of the questions I asked was whether the phone was SIM unlocked so that I could purchase a SIM card while in Brazil and use local service down there. The VZW rep assured me the phone was indeed unlocked, but I did not use a Brazilian SIM card while on travel so I cannot confirm via personal experience.
I can confirm that it is unlocked. I put an active att sim card in, that then allowed me to add the correct apn info. I was then able to make calls and use data.

The SCH-I545 has Quad band GSM/EDGE frequency's (850/900/1800/1900) and Quad band UMTS/HSPA (850/900/1900/2100) As well as AWS bands for LTE (1700/2100) so it should get LTE on T-Mobile. However, it does not have the capabilities to get LTE on AT&T since the SCH-I545 does not have the frequency's to operate on AT&T's LTE network but it will get HSPA+ on both networks. It will work on Sprint as well but it will not get LTE since its two LTE bands, (700 and 1700/2100), are not compatible. Sprint operates on the same CDMA/ Ev-Do bands as VZW so you will get 3G. I can confirm that i have used the SCH-I545 with an AT&T SIM card and i got HSPA+ speeds.

The AWS is there but not activated yet. for now you will only get EDGE on t-mobile unless in a refarmed are you will pickup HSPA. you will however pickup all AWS tis summer when verizon activates that band on our phone.
SOURCE: I'm on the 30$ a month prepaid with t-mobile. edge sucks but it works.

No, but that is because i am not in an area where ATT has LTE turned on. South Dakota is still on the waiting list. Verizon uses different frequencies for LTE then ATT does.
Verizon has never locked their phones, even the CDMA ones. If you put a non Verizon SIM in you can change the APN settings

International Gear S on AT&T

I was given Gear S (sm-r750) as a demo device. I worked with an att rep and got the sim card and device activated on service, but my device doesn't connect to cellular or data. I worked with tech support to work out the issue and tried refreshsing everything on att's side and even changed the apn settings. I have a Sprint Note III. I'm not sure if that has an effect on the gear s being activated. Has anyone else tried to do this/is it possible?
Shameless self-bump.

The carrier that your device is through does not have an effect on whether the gear will activate. I am using a T-Mobile Gear S with my Verizon Note Edge at the moment. I cannot speak for trying to activate the international model.
International version of Gear S will not have the frequency support of US carriers. Gear S is a dual-band device. International version supports 900/1800Mhz. US version supports 850/1900MHz. So, either version will get no signal what so ever on other area, e.g. US version won't work internationally while international version won't work in US.

Thank you. Not the answer I was looking for, but at least I know so I can cancel my account.

Can I use South Korean Gear S on US carrier?

First of all, thanks in advance for any help or tips you can provide! I did a search and found one thread from selveral months ago that asked a similar question, but no one had responded.
I have a Gear S that a family member purchased in South Korea directly from Samsung. It works great when it's connected to my phone, but I'd like to use it as a standalone device, preferably on Verizon. Verizon said their system doesn't recognize the IMEI so they can't add it to my account, but that I might be able use an already activated SIM card.
Unfortunately I don't have any devices that use a nano SIM like the Gear S, so doing this would be some hassle, and I want to have some idea that it would actually work. Looking around on line, it appears there may be a issue with the frequency band used by the watch and that used by American carriers, but I can't tell for sure if this is an issue for this device or whether it is surmountable.
Is there any way to get my watch to function as a standalone device on a US carrier? Can I use it on Verizon? If so, what steps are necessary?
Model number: SM-R750
Software version: R750XXU1BOG1
You have two problems here:
1. Gear S is dual-band only. Only US version will work with US carriers. Rest of the world use the entirely different bands.
2. Verizon is a CDMA carrier. It still uses CDMA for voice, text and 3G data. Only the LTE data uses SIM card. Verizon's version of Gear S doesn't use SIM card at all. So, even if you get a compatible US version of S, unless it has Verizon name on it, it won't work.

T865 on T-Mobile

I was wondering if anybody is using the international T865 on T-Mobile, and if so, how is the LTE signal? I know this model doesn't have all of the T-Mobile LTE bands, but I believe it has a couple of the important ones? I ran an international Tab S2 on T-Mobile, and it worked pretty much just fine in Los Angeles. I was kind of curious how this might work now, if the network has changed since then or whatnot, and then how the merger with Sprint might affect it in the near future. Any info is appreciated!

Yeah I don't think that works. Have you tried putting a smartphone sim in your T-Mobile S6? I'm sure the system will recognize it as a tablet and not a phone. That's why I want to order an 865 international model. But then again I guess I might look into how much it costs just to add some tablet data to my plan.

I have a smartphone sim (no difference than an normal sim) and get mobile data which allows me to use the phone when WiFi is not available (I don't want to use my phone as a hotspot). The T-Mobile LTE tablet cannot make phone calls or text but can use the text and call on other devices option on Samsung phones which allows you to use the Tablet using your phone number.
On other samsung devices the US models use the Snapdragon chip while the international model uses the exynos chip which can easily unlock the bootloader and root the phone or tablet. I understand that the S6 LTE tablet is using only the Snapdragon chip worldwide so rooting may be much more difficult. However the international version should have the OEM unlock available so the bootloader can be unlocked. Normally I only get the international versions and root, but if is getting more difficult each year to root the Samsung devices. I bought a used S6 LTE and am happy with my tablet.

So you have a smartphone sim in your T-Mobile Tab S6 LTE, and can get unlimited data? Is it a T-Mobile SIM or another carrier? I tried that some years ago with a different tablet and it didn't work because the system recognized it as a tablet and not a smartphone. That would be cool if it works though, I don't care that much about calling and texting, but unlimited data would be cool.
I like the international models too because they can be used like huge phones lol, but they don't have all of the T-Mobile LTE bands, but I think they have enough that it works okay.
