Deciding if purchasing Poco, help! - Xiaomi Poco F1 Questions & Answers

So guys, it seems k20 pro wont get to my local market, and I will buy a Poco F1 (I dont trust k20/9t will have a good developer community).
I want the device to last 2-3 years, do yo think Poco f1 will do so or most devs will port to K20 pro? I want to purchase a phone that has active development and that at least gets to see Android 11-12 or whatever they pull off.
About the notch, I have seen most custom Roms support turning it off completely (I prefer simmetry) is it mantained through all aps? I've seen that with intrnse light it looks like grey
Battery backup. I come from mido and it usually gives me, a on screen time of 7-8h with a use of:
3h web briwsing
30 min gaming
1h wa
1h video/netflix
1h twitter
1h spotify
All with Bluetooth on with headphones and 4g + wifi
Do you think poco will be at the same level? Mido usually last me for the whole day 7-23, I want my next device to do like that or even better.
Thanks.

Can't comment much but I got this phone second hand last month. I get 6-7 hours screen time mostly chrome and a bit YouTube. Battery lasts about 30 hours or so.
It will get android Q but beyond that no one can say.
Btw coming from sony the phone isn't as fast but it's good enough and stays cool

if you play pubg....dont buy poco f1...as strange as it sounds but read this:

no for gaming, but for rest yes

Moving from the SGS2 to the Lumia.

A friend of mine has received a brand new Lumia a few days back as a gift. This guy happens to be an iOS/Android developer, and he doesn't give a damn about WP7, so he asked me if i wanted to swap my 5 months old GS2 for his Lumia, because he thinks it has no use to him. Sure, i know that this one is a big deal for sure, and that even if i don't like the phone i'll have no problem selling it making some good cash. Anyway what i'm asking you here is how does it feel moving from a top Android to a top WP7 device? Did anyone do that? What's your experience about it?
I already have an Omnia 7 so i know that WP7 is a good OS, but i was wondering basically how good this phone is as a daily driver compared to my GS2.
What will you be using the phone for? Games? Mere surfing and checking Facebook? Work? First thing I noticed when going from Galaxy S (not the 2nd) was that WP7 was way more stable and more importantly, the battery is just a beast, 24h with no charging and still having another 12h on it, despite watching movies for 3h on it.

Well i'm not really a heavy gamer, but i play some game from time to time. My usage is pretty average i guess: browsing every now and then, gmail and twitter syncing, whatsapp, youtube, a movie sometimes but that's rare. Sound quality doesn't really matter because i already have a Cowon, can't beat that anyway Basically i want a reliable and solid phone that won't die at about 3 p.m. every day with my kind of usage.
My network did not have the Nokia Lumia in stock when it came to the end of my contract a few days back, the next best this was the SGS2, I sold S2 online and with the cash bought an unlocked Lumia.
Its a really, really nice phone and is very fast, there are a few bugs (firmware related) and we have been promised by Nokia for an update in the coming weeks. If I were you I would go for it, I did, and havent looked back
I cant say about the SGS bit i switched to the Lumia from iPhone 4 and im not regretting. This Os is better than iOS.
Sent from my Lumia 800 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
I did this switch my self, SGS2 to Lumia 800, and to be honest, best phone switch I've done. The phone just works and I think, despite the tiny bugs in the firmware it's still among the best phones on the market.
There's plenty of games for WP7 and the native apps other than that work pretty well.
Tho I do miss Opera Mobile/Mini on it.
There should be a thread somewhere (yikes) here that explains weak point and strong points against iOS and Android. For the phone itself it's beautifully made, feels like a real piece of hardware in your hand. It weighs a bit more then expected but hardly an issue unless you have real trouble carrying stuff
The audio quality for me at least is great but I know some people had trouble with it.
The battery life is magnificent, haven't done any real tests but it easily lasts 24h despite heavy usage.
Camera is good but I expected better for going full-out with "Carl Zeiss Optics.."; but it might just be me not having a clue how to point-and-click the damn thing.
I love this lil bugger but Ice Cream Sandwich looks pretty damn sexy as well. I think you won't be disappointed by either phone.
Ok, i think i made up my mind in the end: tomorrow i'll meet my friend and grab the Lumia
I'll report back my first impressions, thanks everybody.
If your not bothered about rooting or the customisation of android then go ahead , wp7 is a much improved version of iOS, just as fast and sleek but with menus and a better looking UI. I have a lumia given to me as a work phone. Not my cup of tea personally , wouldn't dare swap my gnexus for it but has good features as well. Build quality is top notch , decent camera (Carl Zeiss lens) , very nice screen. Down sides , poor customisation apps are slow to use , not the best app choice , no developer support and its a new os. Also because it has the funding of windows and this is one of the most important areas to the company then you know its not going to go web os way , you are going to have a phone with updates and a lot of services. (Nokia maps/music/zune )
My advice is if your looking for a iPhone because you like the way it works (simplicity etc) then the lumia all the way as it works in a similar fashion. If you appreciate the way android works (rooting roms customisation and the actual os) then keep your s2 as it is still easily one of the best phones on the market.
I'd stick with the s2 but if you got a lumia I would doubt you would be dissapointed.
Hope the upsides and downsides I have listed my help you a little

Good choice. My colleague here has the SGSII and gets around 16 hours battery life and has problems with apps crashing and the os lagging/random reboots. No such problems with the Lumia and I get 24 hours with heavy or 36 hours with light use.
I bought a Lumia 800 few days ago but still can't get to 24hrs.. I tried the diagnostics tool and get a 1505 mAh full charge, so I have no battery problems, but still after a few hours of heavy usage the battery dies(90% of times wi-fi is off!!!), tips?
Define heavy usage and define "few hours". I watched movies for 2-3h yesterday and then went to sleep, woke up and fiddled with the camera and checked Facebook regularly until now, 45% battery life remaining. Estimated time remaining: 14 hours. Time since last charge: 13 hours
I have never seen "remaining time 13hrs" ;-) this say's it all!
Now I have 27% with 3hours left.. I never use wifi and i deactivated (i think everywhere) GPS localisation for pictures and stuff like that..
for Heavy usage I mean mail check every 15/30 mins, 5/6 web pages opened per hour and half an hour of games every 8/9 hours with medium brightness... I don't even think that this is "heavy".. with my Nexus S (SLCD) i can get to 40/50hours with no problems and with the SAmoled one I can complete with no problem 1 day (18 to 24hours).. Is there any option that I have to set to get my battery to last enough to go to sleep with still 10/15% left? thanks

Same, my L800 is about a week old now. Battery life so far is not very good and nowhere near the advertised or GSMarena's 35/40 hours.
Right now: 88%, 12 hours remaining, 3 hours since last charge. Rather high battery drain considering low/moderate use. 1529 mAh full charge capacity.
No crazy apps that are always on using data connection except WhatsApp. I don't use twitter, I don't religiously check FB and RSS feeds are on manual refresh since I am in front of PC most of the day. Some calls, whatsapp and a few emails during the day.

At the moment I got 94% remaining and "Estimated time remaining: 1 day 6 hours".
Sounds like you have a battery bug of some sort.

I certainly hope it is a bug and the upcoming update fixes the battery issues for all. There appears to be a massive disparity in L800s battery life reports. Some people have the confirmed but where battery doesn't fully charge.
What is your drain rate in Diagnostics? Idle with screen on is between 120-135 mA with occasional spikes into 200+ mA. What is your usage pattern, more or less?
Doing around 185-200 mA idle screen on. Phone syncs to gmail/facebook/calendar, I check it about once a hour, at night I watch movies for like 2-4h and during the day I try out my apps that I developed or other ppl's ones.

Yes, must be some kind of battery bug.
Doing some math (1529 mAh battery as reported by my L800) and battery durations as provided by Nokia and GSM Arena test.
http://blog.gsmarena.com/nokia-lumia-800-battery-test-now-over-see-how-it-did-test/
Hours Drain (mA)
3G standby 265 5,77
GSM standby 335 4,56
Average 300 5,10
2G talk 13 117,62
3G talk 9,5 160,95
3G talk (GSM Arena) 8,42 181,59
Average 10,31 148,35
Music 55 27,8
Video 6,5 235,23
Video (GSM Arena) 5,87 260,48
Web Browsing (GSM Arena) 4,12 371,12
The phone should last an average person 18 hours assuming a typical 8 am - 2 am day ...
45 mins talk (110 mAh drained), 2-4 hours web/SNS (800-1200 mAh drained) and say some music for 2 hours at the gym (50-60 mAh drained) ... that still leaves 10+ hours of idle drain of around 5 mA according to Nokia.
@SvanteH: You phone's battery life is simply exceptional but do you actually get 24+ hours of usage out of it or are you down to below 10% at the end of the day?
I usually charge it every alternate night + some hour usb charging during the day

I'm jealous of your L800's battery life, trumps mine by a large margin.
[UPDATE] Unplugged at 100% charge and it said 14 hours remaining. Sigh.

Battery life is great

I'm really impressed by the battery on the A7. I've had 3.5 hours of sot and 20% left even after caning it with DS Audio, 4 hours of internet radio, 50 photos plus editing and lots of surfing.
Doze is extraordinary. Check out last night's battery consumption (I really must get to bed earlier).
Best battery life on a phone that I've had so far.....Well, since smartphones. I had some flip phones that could last a week.
It seems to be a bit better than the Nexus 6P I came from. Definitely not as good as the Oneplus One, much better than the Moto X Pure.

The main thing I've noticed is that this phone doesn't get excessively hot which seems to kill the battery very fast (both issues I've had with almost every smartphone owned: Nexus 6p and Oneplus One included). Apps that use GPS, camera use, gaming etc don't seem to get the phone as hot and this seems to correlate with better battery life under use. The only time I feel the phone warming up is if I'm using the Quickcharge charger while doing something else. It's barely warm though.
If I babied my Oneplus One (Sultans ROM) I managed to get 8 hours SOT which was crazy but it didn't charge the way the Axon 7 does and it certainly wouldn't have coped with the stress I'm putting on the Axon 7. I remember things like constant GPS + Spotify + Bluetooth would mean my Oneplus One wouldn't be able to charge as fast as the battery was being drawn. Not an issue at all with the Axon 7.

I agree on all points. This is one of the coolest running phones I've ever used. Only thing I've done that creates noticeable heat other than charging is +30 minute phone calls on Bluetooth in car. And it charges unbelievably fast. Very happy!
Got ,5 and a half hours yesterday. I honestly average 5 hours. Battery life has improved significantly with this smart power voodoo on. It doesn't affect performance unlike it does on tw.
I notice more apps are closed in background when I have smart power on.. Like I'll be able to have about 5-10 apps open with smart power on.. But 15-25 with it off.
I get an extra hour sot with smart power on.
And I took quite a few pictures that day.. Totally thought I was going to toast my battery.. But it held up better than any of my samsung devices..
The Axon ZTE 7 A2017 has the most smart power!!! I dont have to worry for the whole day charging my Monster!!!
I agree with all the comments here the battery is really good, pair with fast charging if necessary is a winner !!!!
Same here I'm enjoying the battery life on this bad boy!
I would also say it's not too bad.. still 25% remaining after 5h DOT
Agree! On at 6:30 am and still at 86% - light use. 1 phone call, a few texts and 10 or so minutes checking the news. My note would have been 70-75% by midday with about the same use. Power save mode on both phones. Very happy with this phone.
I started this thread and I'm still pretty happy with the battery life but this evening I noticed the phone was a bit hot. First time I've noticed that. It drained from 45% to shutdown in 10 minutes. This is what my Oneplus One used to do. How can the same sh*t happen to the same guy twice?

Sounds like you've got a rogue app in three background that's forcing your CPU to max out and keeping it there even when not in use. There were a couple kernels on the oneplus one (including stock) with bugs like that, but it's not a kernel issue with the axon because otherwise others would have seen this. I'm betting it's a bad app.
I had just installed Kayak. Battery back up now. I'll see if I can reproduce the issue.
I cannot see the usage of apps. Any solution? I also can't see it in the system battery settings.
My buddy has this phone and literally flawless. i mean it works. it lasts. its powerful. has amazing SQ. and im over here with a friggin note 7 barely squeezing 16 hours out of it with3-4 hours DOT/SOT.

I just want a small phone with good battery life as my s8 is too big.

Really depends how you use. Example, if I have Bluetooth on always for Mi Band 2 connection, then it's about 3-5 hours. When it's off, it's 5-6 or even more hours. Coming from Samsung s6 it's real improvement.

Well the games I am looking at is mainly puzzle games, just worried mainly about performance since previous main phone was a xperia m4 aqua that couldn't do plain games and overheated. So I got myself a new main phone, axon7 and handles everything I toss at it but I still want a small and comfy phone for easy use on the go.

About 3-4 hours SOT if I am really, really lucky and do every battery extending trick in the book. Pretty crappy for a flagship. Only phone in my current rotation that not only can't do 9 hours SOT (and the others can have everything on, no problem) but can't even hit half of it.
Love the hell out of this phone other than that, but man it's a serious problem having to carry a charger around everywhere.

It's weird how two identical model phones can be so different. Not just with the note 8, but I've seen this happen with previous phones, too. I've hit 8 hours of SOT sometimes. I've got lots of pre-loaded apps disabled, along with some other things, but I probably average 6 to 6.5 hours of screen on time. There must be something draining yours somewhere unnoticed.
I get 5-7 hours of SOT per charge. I use the phone for work, so I also have 4-5 hours of voice call time. Not sure how anyone would need to be looking at their phone for more than 7 hours in a day.

It's not necessarily that it needs to be done in a day. But each of my other devices can easily get through two full workdays without a charge. The OnePlus and Essential Phone can both go about 3 days (having to go easy on them the third). That's with everything enabled. Bluetooth on, Wifi, Cellular data, every advanced feature each particular device offers (except the OP5 and PH-1 both of which have no gimmicks to enable). I don't need them to do so because I charge them nightly, but it's good to know they can. With the Note 8, I literally have to charge it twice to get through a single day. That's really milking it too. Wifi on at home/office, cellular off. Cellular on when on the go with wifi off. No bluetooth, screen dim as I can get it and still see, all advanced features turned off, no location services.
It's absurd on a phone that expensive. My S8+ was the same way, as was my S7 Edge last year. 3 strikes. Like I said it's a shame too, because I honestly want to use my Note 8 more than the others but it gets harder and harder to justify ****ing with it.

God awful battery life - rooted, what app(s) to use?

Hi all,
So I've got a rooted v30 and the battery life is not great, getting about 5 hours screen on time from 100 to 0. I've tried using wakelock but cannot get it to work, keep getting the 'this operation cannot be done' at this time message even after leaving it on for a few days or so. What alternative apps should I use to find out what's causing the drain?
Should say I don't use auto brightness, generally have 0 screen brightness really.
I also get 10% knocked off overnight whilst not using the phone, what prompted me to root the phone was losing 25% over one night once, thankfully that has stopped.
it might be the sim card to blame. i am also having bad battery as long as i am not at home on my wifi, about 5 hours IF i'm lucky, while at home i can even get to 8 damn hours, even while playing games. try using bbs or gsam, and maybe, if you do not urgently need your phone, try supervising it with data on for an hour and then on airplane mode for one hour, and see if there's a difference.
Is this some kind of prank? 5h is bad result? If you have more than 5h means that you not using the phone. Always 3G on, Facebook, messenger, Instagram, YouTube, Spotify, chrome. With using everything I'am getting max 4h SOT and about 18-20h out of charger. Where is the magic trick to make a 6-7h SOT??

I get 9+ hours of SOT per charge, and I can get 14+ and have in the recent past, even hit 17.5 hours of SOT at one point (watching some movies). It's not an impossible thing, seriously, but every phone is different and so is every user and how they use their devices.
And... I never use Battery Saver either, go figure.
Here's my 14.75...
My battery life might be worst than the OP
Something going on with Chrome for both of you that are having such horrible drain according to those screenshots. I'd personally say remove Chrome - uninstall it if possible or at least roll it back to the original default version, then clear out the cache on the device/reboot it afterward and then perhaps re-install it to the latest available version. If that doesn't help I'd suspect perhaps the battery itself has seen better days - the V30 has been out for 2+ years now so if you've got one that came from an original production run long ago you might end up having to replace the battery whether you want to or not.
But there is definitely something going on there with respect to Chrome and it's not good. I've been 2-4 hours at a time with Chrome running on my V30 while I looked at Reddit/Tumblr/etc sites, constantly with the display on at 50% brightness where I always have it at home and Flipboard uses way more power on mine than Chrome ever has.

But I have 4000mah battery, better processor - 7nm, and so on. But 17h SOT it seems impossible. Maybe somehow your rooted rom calculates also AOD feature.... ?

Is this some kind of prank? 5h is bad result? If you have more than 5h means that you not using the phone. Always 3G on, Facebook, messenger, Instagram, YouTube, Spotify, chrome. With using everything I'am getting max 4h SOT and about 18-20h out of charger. Where is the magic trick to make a 6-7h SOT??

I don't use AOD, it's kinda pointless to me overall - and I'm someone that used to use that feature on a Motorola Moto X which was the first phone to ever have that feature but Motorola is still the only one that really did it right IMO.
I don't use auto-brightness; that's just another thing that can sap up some power for no really good purpose. I leave my V30 at 50% brightness unless I go outside where I typically use 75-90% and never more, I never use 100% brightness and nobody ever really should on any OLED tech displays but that's just a personal preference I suppose. When watching videos I set the brightness to 75% - that 17.5 hour run I had was when I spent time in a hospital where my Wife was undergoing surgery and I had nothing better to do so I watched a lot of videos most of the day into the night, probably 12+ hours of movies/TV shows, etc. The AC plug on the wall in her hospital room was too far away (I just had a 3 foot USB cable with me) so I just let the damned phone run down save for a ~20 minute period (slow charging) where I plugged in with an external battery pack so did influence the run time just a bit (probably added 2 hours overall).
And again, I never use Battery Saver. I don't need it so I never bother enabling it even when the V30 tells me the battery is down low and I should.
Wi-Fi pretty much always unless I'm out and about in town for something which is when I use the T-Mobile service I have, 50% brightness always except in some situations, nothing really running in the background, I don't do social media crap like Facebook or Whatsapp, Twitter, etc. Don't use Bluetooth for much of anything - I do have a Bluetooth speaker at home but most of the time I'm using my laptop at home so I have my headphones on.
Dark themes on as many apps as possible and I'm using the Dark G7 theme from the Play Market that many of us use. I also have no intentions of using Android 9 Pie either, Oreo is damned near perfect on my V30 and I'm not even interested in ruining how well everything works right now.

what version of oreo are you at? im getting some worse battery on pie with my V300L (korean)so i was thinking of going back to oreo since the only positive thing on pie was that manual rotation control. best i could reach on pie was 7 hrs and then i could never do it again even with light usage.
Uhmmm... Oreo is Android 8, and the last update for mine was the 20h build (since it's a converted H931 to a US998).

Apparently the developer of that theme - which was free - has now changed it and it might not work on the V30 with Oreo as it did (and does) for me and they're charging for it too:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lge.wsdeveloper.g7.dark
There might be another one, I don't know, guess I'll have to back up the APK I have for the older version since it can't be downloaded from the Play Store any longer. This one might work (same developer) but again they're charging for it:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lge.wsdeveloper.g7.outray

Lol I agree. I used to get around 5h SOT on earlier builds of Havoc, which is honestly the best I could ever get, but now I get average 3h SOT on Havoc. I can't even comprehend how people could get even more than that.
Like, no offense to anyone who is getting way more than 5h, but that is just impossible without sacrificing core apps such as Google, Chrome, or play services.
But then again, maybe every V30 was made different. Some people are probably lucky and have maintained a perfectly healthy battery (while mines is already down to 89%).
