Hi all.
I've had a problem with websites (including this one) redirecting to adverts on both my phone (OP 5T), and my partner's phone (Moto G7 Play). Both fully up to date, and unlike me, she leaves all settings on their defaults.
We both have the latest version of Chrome (v75), with the "Pop ups and redirects" blocked. We don't have dedicated Adblockers as they aren't rooted.
The pop ups tend to happen on XDA, Den of Geek and Android Authority; but never my other haunts, such as News or gaming sites. A quick Kaspersky scan revealed nothing.
I don't even know what to search for. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I have videos of both, but as a new user I can't post links.

Cheers all
Anyone have any thoughts? I'm out of ideas.

Hey all,
I work for Verizon, and we have had a lot of customers coming in with the error "UIDs on the system are inconsistent" message. I am wondering if anyone has been able to find a cause. I understand a factory reset fixes the issue; however, I am wondering if this message is malware related. The button "I'm feeling lucky!" seems to imply that it is not a normal system-related message. I have made a few observations about this particular error.
1. It affects multiple devices. Phones, tablets, phablets, iPhones (just kidding)...it seems nothing is safe.
2. It affects multiple carriers. A google search yielded the same problems on T-Mobile and Sprint android phones.
3. In my experience, every user has had facebook installed (one customer even said the message first appeared when using facebook).
Is it possible that there is facebook distributed malware (perhaps by clicking a link to a malicious site), which installs itself on a user's phone when the user clicks "I'm feeling lucky!"?
Just throwing out some thoughts...
Tom
I've never heard of this, but I also don't use Facebook. I did notice that visiting the facebook pages related to I'm Feeling Lucky with javascript disabled started to load, then jumped to a 404 error.
Hmm...that's interesting. I'm not very knowledgeable in this area...
I've seen websites bring up notification boxes like these before, so I know it's possible. Has anyone else seen this?
Is there an app available which provides similar features to ios restrictions, such as being able to prevent changes to accounts and contacts, meaning for apps such as hangouts or messenger i can prevent my brother from only contacting existing contacts and prevent him from adding random people (hes autistic...) Im currently using Norton parental controls and this allows me to block certain websites and send me usage reports, however i would like for him to be able to actually contact his family on the tablet, however being able to add people is a big no-no as he can become abusive to people. I managed this perfectly fine on his Ipod as within Ios restrictions you can simply turn on the option to prevent changes to accounts...
I'am quite an advanced android user and i cant seem to find a way to do this... i also cant believe people are praising the restricted profiles in android 4.4.2... i think it is awful only allowing you to block apps... there are numerous apps available to do this anyway.
Another issue i have is with the play store not asking for a password for apps even though this option is selected in 4.4.2. I know this is a reported issue as i have found a forum on the issue however no one had a solution.
Any help would be appreciated
Hello everybody,
i just got an acer liquid e700.
unfortunately, there's no cyanogenmod available for it, and scanning this and other android forums i soon realised that, if i use some inoffical rom, i will most probably loose the triple sim functionality.
so, how can i make sure my acer liquid e700 with stock android 4.4.2 kitkat does not call home to google?
it is rooted already.
i do not have a google account, so there's already quite a lot of stuff that wouldn't work anyway and can be disabled/uninstalled: drive, gmail, google (search?), google settings, google+, hangouts, maps, google photos, "play movies & tv", play newsstand, play store.
(that in itself is an impressive list. phew)
however, is that enough? there's still some questionable apps. most of all, acer's own apps.
...before i go into much more detail, maybe some guide is already out there?
bonus if it's for acer devices that ship with their very own brand of spyware.
in the end, i'm not a cryptofreak, but i'd like my phone to be as safe as my linux desktop:
i want to decide who and when uses the network, and i want to make sure that apps don't spy on other apps.
i want to listen to my local (on my desktop computer) music collection without google & the world knowing about it. just an example.
ps:
i'm planning on using f-droid as much as possible.
i read an article on a german android forum that said: things to do BEFORE your android phone goes into the internet for the first time:
http://www.android-hilfe.de/thema/c...es-das-1-mal-ins-internet-geht-afwall.611866/
it comes down to having a working firewall and block everything, before you put data cards in or use wifi.
there's an older article here:

and these were also helpful:

here's a similar thread on that german forum:

Hello. I recently bought a Huawei P40 Lite, without GMS and installed the apps using googlefier. Everything goes well except some errors that are fixed by swiping and blocking them, and one bigger issue: location. Some local apps (the phone is for my mom so she has a lot of shopping apps for local supermarkets with discounts, cards, vouchers etc) require you to set your location through google, so instead of the app showing the map and allowing you to choose your store, you're stuck at a "Google Play services are updated" screen. Is there any fix for this?
How it looks on my P20 Lite (with factory GMS)
How it looks on my P40 Lite (with googlefier GMS)
Also, does anyone know any better solution of installing the google services? As said, this phone is for my mom and I really don't want to have to fix something every week, so I'm up to even root and mess with things so I can have a more permanent fix.
Welcome to XDA
Yes, well... no idea what the solution is but there's no way I leave that junkware run on my phone.
With a user like that always keep in mind it may be malware, a virus or rootkit causing it.
An Android is only as secure as its user...

Well it's not junk or malware. It's a genuine app from the playstore for a supermarket chain named Lidl. She's had it for months, you basically get a qr code and you have to scan that code at the cash register to get some discounts. The app shows her each week what products have discounts and what products are gonna have discounts next week. The app is legit.
As for the user, yeah I agree my mom isn't the most careful out there but i managed to teach her to not install or press any buttons and everytime she gets a weird message or notification she comes to me to figure out what it is. Even when a normal app requires a permission, for example "facebook requires permission to take pictures", she comes to me, so I'm pretty sure she'll be fine with it.
Is there any proper way of installing GMS without having these types of issues even if it involves rooting or god knows what else? At the price of this phone there's nothing better than it and I don't really want to downgrade to a bad samsung just for that.
Just because it's on Playstore doesn't make it safe
FB? Bah-ha-ha-ha.... is pure social malware.
Purveyors of disinformation and far, far worse.
No way that be on my phone. I punched out of FB 13 years ago after a month... the puppet cut the strings.
Meh, it's a lick on you... do what you will, but actions have consequences.

It's not that deep. Like I said, all she does is talk about flowers, plants and work-related subjects. I taught her how not to fall in the hands of scammers and how she should come and show me everytime she gets any weird request. She doesn't download any apps without me, doesn't access weird websites, i think it's safe enough for a mature person.
Yes, I know that it isn't safe just because it's on the playstore, I'm just trying to tell you that it's a legit app, developed my the supermarket chain that has over 11k stores in Europe and there isn't any sensitive information apart from her name and a qr code that she has to scan, instead of the typical physical discount card.
On another note, since the topic has been moved to another category, does anybody have any idea on how to fix my issue?
@goldieczr did you find a solution?
I've got the exact same problem on my Hisense a6l.
I got these files (in the rar) from an official seller. With these you can install google service and magisk.
Both files are executable zips that can be opend. All you need is the password from the text file.
Same thing with the installation, just copy paste the passwords when ask.
I just revived an old phone and found out that youtube has stopped its support. In the past I heard of an app inside which is a collection of web versions of all social media apps, Due to the fact that it had web versions it used less storage and endless device support which would be perfect for me. Now when I search in play store I find many similar apps all bombarded with ads. Do we have any ad-free option or even ones with minimal ads would be great help.
