Hi,this is my first time installing a custom rom and recovery and rooting and all.
I am on MIUI 10 8.11.22 beta on RN3 2gb.
And have unlocked bootloader using official method.
Currently following
https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/how-to/unlock-bootloader-twrp-root-7-2-3-t3359492
Planning to
flash official twrp-3.3.1-0-kenzo
Install Havoc 9.0 OS https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/development/rom-havoc-os-t3845305
Install Magisk
but twrp site is showing
This device uses dm-verity!
This means that swiping to allow system modifications will prevent you from being able to boot if you are using the stock kernel. In order to bypass dm-verity's boot prevention, you will have to install a kernel that has dm-verity disabled in the fstab.

I think it is about boot.img but I do not have patched boot.img of my miui version and also (from above guide) to patch boot.img i need fastboot rom but linkhttps://en.miui.com/a-234.html only takes me to Chinese miui website.
Can any one share link to boot.img of fastboot rom for MIUI 10 8.11.22 beta?
And in Havoc OS post
https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/development/rom-havoc-os-t3845305
do I need custom kernel for 9.0?
In Magisk Post
Prerequisite
If you plan to install custom kernels, flash the zip AFTER installing Magisk
Make sure to remove any ‘boot image mods’ such as other root solutions. The easiest way is to restore the boot image from factory images, or reflash a non-prerooted custom ROM

does that mean i do not need to flash boot.img or do i need to flash it afterwards?
Qustions
1) Do I need boot.img file of my version or any will do?
2)Do I need custom kernel for havoc os 9.0?
3) how to proceed after flashing twrp(need help)?
here what i think i have to do after flasing twrp(correct me If i am wrong)
(do not flash boot .img as installing magisk) -> flash havoc os -> flash magisk->flash custom kernel(which one?)-> (flash boot.img) ->reboot

If u official unlocked using miunlock tool then u dont need any patched boot.img.
Flash latest twrp 3.3.1 kenzo
Download ur favourite rom and nano gapps zip to external sd card.
First go to wipe and do format data.
You must do it or rom wont boot.
So click Format data
Type Yes to format
This will decrypt and erase internal sd.
Then Swipe to "factory reset"
Then Go to install
Flash rom zip
Flash nano gapps.zip
Then Reboot and enjoy

Ok , So I finally was able to unlock my bootloader after getting that 50 % error, I thought that I'd flash miui 8 , so I downloaded the rom from official mi website and flashed it with twrp but for some reason I got stuck in a bootloop. I dont want to download fastboot rom as it takes a lot of time due to slow internet, so could anyone tell me how can i successfully flash a rom from twrp. I've got bot miui 8 chinese developer rom and global beta rom downloaded.
You need patched boot for normal twrp or u must use cofface twrp to flash the rom.
You cant flash stock rom via twrp without patched boot.img
And if you are flashing marshmallow rom u must know that the bootloader will lock itself again.
Why not just flash the miui.eu version? No boot image mess..

Edit : The recovery worked. Thanx.
where can I find a patched boot.img for latest chinese developer rom.Thanx for the fast reply.
Just use cofface recovery for stock roms:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-3/development/recovery-kenzotwrp-cafface-3-0-0-t3369341
I think that the Alca recovery do the same, but I haven't test it yet

Thanks. Problem solved.
Hey guys.
I'm using a 32/3GB kenzo with an unlocked bootloader running official rr mm.
I formatted the phone, flashed CM14 firmware, flashed the official RR nougat and GAPPS, then rebooted to system.
At this point, it started bootlooping, booting to the MI splashscreen, staying there for about half the time it usually does, before rebooting and repeating the process.
At this point, I was unable to access recovery, but was able to access fastboot and edl.
Flashing a recovery using the "fastboot flash recovery" command failed, so I assume that the partitions were corrupted.
I had to revert to MIUI by flashing through edl using MI flash, which fixed all the issues.
Can someone tell me what I did wrong?
Or should I follow the newbie guide 2.0 from the forums?
Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.

Which recovery you uaed for flashing rr n. Because you went bootloop and recovery was not able to access that means may be some problems in recovery or either in rom/gapps zip. Make sure you are flashing gapps for NOUGAT only. And use latest stable miui firmware (not cm14 zip one although may be both are same)
Try this
1. Flash zcx recovery (I recommend this, never disappointed)
2. Flash latest miui stable firmware
3. Flash rom zip
4. Flash gapps n
Boot to system
5. Then flash kernel or anything.

Thanks for the reply, I'll try it soon. Can you tell me how to get the miui stable firmware?
Should I fastboot flash latest MIUI stable before flashing the ROM or is there a MIUI firmware zip file to flash?

There is flashable zip file which is extracted from miui rom only. So both way will be good as flash latest stable miui rom and then twrp > rom zip > gapps. Or twr0 > firmware zip (search in any custom rom thread you will get one) > custom rom zip > gapps.
Only benefit of flashing firmware zip is less time consuming and less file size (around 50mb) compare to full miui rom.

Make sure u come from latest miui 10 stable
If u unlocked boot loader unofficially and zcx
then first replace ur zcx twrp with latest twrp. Then u can flash custom roms and gapps.
U dont need any firmware Before flashing custom roms.
Just format data
Wipe data reset
Flash rom and gapps.
Reboot.
If u try to flash those 50mb size miui firmware zip using twrp then u will brick ur phone coz u r unofficially unlocked. So get rid of that firmware fever from ur head. U dont need any.
In case if u feel like going again back to miui global rom then put ur phone in EDL mode and flash kate fastboot global rom using computer and miflashtool.

Better use official TWRP, Orangefox or Redwolf recovery
No need to flash firmware as you're already on MIUI 10.2
Just wipe system, data, also format data & proceed to flash the rom
Thanks for the help guys

Can you help me? This is for Kenzo
I had softbricked? my phone. Went through the process of installing the MIUI 10 fastboot rom but it required activation which I can't do as I forgot my login details (i bought this phone years ago)
Yesterday I managed to unlock unofficially using this method
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66379587&postcount=3
Didn't install 7.1.8, just 7.2.5, followed the instructions, was able to enable oem-unlock and usb debugging, confirmed bootloader was unlocked
Flashed the latest twrp, tried zwcx, lastly tried the latest orangefox
Tried flashing AOSPextended nougat and viper os nougat with various recoveries but they were stuck at the logo for the corresponding roms
I am not sure...do I have to do anything with that boot.img patcher? And if so, when would I flash it?
Went through the same steps again. Same result. All roms get stuck on the custom boot animation
edit:nevermind, flashed that unlocked bootloader rn3_unlockonly in miflash and it booted up

There is an updated guide to unlock unofficially on MIUI 9 with new bootloader.
The problem was you unlocked on older version of MIUI.
To recover password try to visit mi cloud & check if you can do something or forget & use custom roms as there's nothing good about MIUI.

After u unoificially unlock.
Replace zcx twrp with latest twrp.
Then flash rom and gapps.
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO FLASH MIUI ROM OR MIUI FIRMWARE USING TWRP. U WILL BRICK OR BOOTLOOP.
ONLY CUSTOM ROMS ARE ALLOWED.
I have flashed latest android 10 to my A3 and mistakenly uninstalled TWRP. Now i want to install twrp recovery. But everytime I flash it in partition b, it get stuck on fastboot screen.
If twrp doesn't support Android 10 then how come it supports other Android 10 based custom rom like Pixel Experience?
Because those custom ROMs use android 9 vendor, boot etc
Thanks for your helpful response

TWRP itself is compatible with Android 10, but not the pre-built image; the non-bootable state could be explained by the Pie Kernel inside twrp.img from official TeamWin website. Nonetheless, you can use Magisk to patch the Q boot image, or just download and flash the attached file, it's a v11.0.8.0 QFQMIXM boot image patched with the latest TWRP:

Thank you for your helpful response. If i want to flash twrp permanently, which zip file i need to flash after booting it temporarily with your attached twrp.img?
Sapper Morton said:
You must always use TWRP Installer (there's no need in specific custom ROMs, since they provide built-in custom recovery), the image I attached can only be used to install temporarily in Android 10 firmware (other than 11.0.8.0 QFQMIXM). And remember, all of this could be avoided if Xiaomi had implemented the boot command into Mi A3 bootloader:
Code:
fastboot boot image_example.img

so i am guessing there is no way to add the boot command to fastboot

Thanks a lot, where I can find the file for the v11.0.11.0, or at least can you specify how I do this using stock boot?
Thanks! Hope to hear you back.
I booted with patched boot and finally was able to enter into TWRP recovery, but then I erased system/data/dalvik and tried to flash Pixel Experience but I am always getting error 1 when doing it. What can I do? It is something about the Android Q base? I'm now on build 11.0.11

yes, flash full stock rom and reboot and setup
add the gsi (renamed to system.img) into the stock rom folder (rename stock system.img to systemBAK.img)
turn phone off and flash as normal, it should boot into havoc, might take a bit longer than usual.
