Device Screen Info on Emui 9.1 - Huawei Mate 20 Pro Questions & Answers

Can anyone please assist me with how I can check if my screen is from BOE or LG using Emui 9.1?
I've downloaded device info HW but Huawei seem to be blocking the screen manufacturers info since the latest 9.1 software update.
Sent from my LYA-L29 using Tapatalk

That's true, it worked with Info HW and EMUI 9.0 and does not work anymore. That's utterly ridiculous. What is their purpose? Apart from delaying the return to the workshop by complicating after-sales service?

Huawei P20 - port camera and master ai?

Hi Everyone! Huawei P20 was just launched today, looking at the specs --- I can't see much difference besides the Camera, do you think its possible to port its camera and so called "Master AI"?
Thanks!
Why only the camera? It should be possible to port over all of the software.
I think that Huawei should really provide an upgrade to 8.1 and all of the new software functionality. Pretty horrible to release a flagship phone and 6 months later simply forget about it.
Update: The camera app seems to be already available in a leak, see

****few months .... ya but in a few months android 9 will be released and maybe we will get it in april 2019! I don't like Huawei updates nor sammy's ... i really hope nokia will release a proper flagship soon... android one is the way....
Mate 9 never got EMUI 5.1 / Android 7.1 that came out with P10 and P10 Pro
Relax, this is the first phone that gets android 8.1+ NNAPI integration and not just a simple 8.1 like nokia and essential did. Basically as the guy said above with the leaks, all of the new features of the P20 are coming to us and that takes some time to implement. Granted our brand new mate 10 pro aka huawei's flagship feels obsolate, outdated and lacking in hardware compared to the P20 series(speakers, wireless charge, bigger sensor, laser) but that will soon change in some part with android 8.1.. Hold your wallets and do patiense like we all do

How do you know all the new features of the P20 will come to the Mate 10?
@tboy2000: Huawei Mate 10 to get P20 AI features with Android 8.1
We have internal beta builds of 8.1 for the Mate 10 (non-Pro Chinese version) so they are being developed.
That being said, with the Mate 9 we also had internal builds of EMUI 5.1, but it was never released.
Most likely time to get the enhancements publicly is when Android P rolls out.

Thanks. So it's not 'all the new features' of the P20. It's just some extra AI scenes. He did not confirm face unlock, super slow motion, AIS, etc etc

Ofc its NOT ALL THE FEATURES of the P20, because some of them are hardware dependent, which Mate 10 Pro don`t have

Actually NONE of the P20 AI features is hardware dependent compared to Mate 10/Pro, AIS is a software solution, it just needed to account for OIS which isn't hard. P20 Pro is a different story.

Camera was 'ported' (it works simply by replacing hwcamera2 in /product/app/) right after firmware was leaked.

Hello, I was interested flashing the port however I'm kinda stuck whether if I root my phone (includes unlocking bootloader) will I still be able to receive and flash updates thru the updates checker? Or every time update is installed, I'll have to reroot it again. Recently came from note 3, flashing and doing things in Huawei are kinda different. I bricked my Note 3 several times and used odin tons of times so makes me think twice before doing things bec not much of stock firmware is available for flashing

[Discussion] Android 9/Pei update for V10 - Beta started in China

While checking I found this URL -
which claims that Android 9.0 update has been rolled out to few test users in China (closed beta group) which indicates we may soon expect the Android 9 hitting a stable release in China followed by global release.
Highlight from GizChina article-
president of Huawei’s mobile phone product line, He Gang, revealed that Huawei Mate 10 Pro, Huawei P20, Honor 10, and Honor V10 models have simultaneously started Android 9 Pie beta testing. He further stated that Huawei’s engineers are already working hard to perfect the system.
According to Huawei’s pollen club’s announcement, the above-mentioned models pushed an internal test version to a small number of pollen users on August 6. The official internal testing recruitment activities for the majority of pollen users will commence as soon as the update is ready.

According to Google, the new Android 9 Pie has two major upgrades. The first is its support for the recently popularized notch. In the developer mode, the Android 9 Pie system can simulate the notch and optimize the notification bar.
Secondly, the system efficiency is optimized which means that Android 9 Pie takes a shorter time to launch apps and the overall performance is better. At the same time, Android 9 Pie also displays the idle applications using the phone microphone, camera, and other sensors. The security of Android 9 Pie is better than the previous versions.

Are you talking about EMUI or the actual version of Android?
The OP is speaking of Android Pie & I'm almost certain all Honor View 10's have been updated to Android 8.1........ Even if Huawei isn't tops in updates, I'd be surprised if this phone doesn't get Android 9.0.
I'd dare say we'll see it on this phone before any Samsung device, but, then again, that's not saying much, LOL....

Yeah,I get that, was just checking that we were talking about the version of Android, not the version of EMUI.
I'm in agreement 100%,there is absolutely no reason for the fragmentation of Android versions on what is virtually the same exact phone.

As far as Huawei / Honor is concerned, EMUI 8 has most changes found in Android 8.1 and also the Co. views the incremental updates as a major update. Their phones get two major Android updates and all phones released in 2018, whether with Android 8.0 or 8.1 would directly be updated to Android 9

That may be true, but,it still doesn't explain why the European version is on Android 8.0 & the NA version is on Android 8.1.
It may not matter to you, but, right or wrong,it matters to the end user.
Why give the impression that Huawei values some regions over others, especially on the same device?
It leaves a bad taste in the mouth & may cause some current owners to look elsewhere for their next phone purchase.
Especially w/Huawei's recent climb in market share,it also gives the impression that they don't have to worry about how the end user thinks or feels about their phone.
Along w/the recent policy change regarding the bootloader unlock, those are two areas of great concern to perhaps a small, but, very vocal community of users.......just something to think about.....
While I'm satisfied w/my Honor View 10,I can state it's the last Huawei device I purchase, unless Huawei changes their stance on locked bootloaders................

I get your point and I feel the same regarding the bootloader unlocking, but from Huawei's point of view, an unlocked bootloader just stands in their way of already rising security concerns of US and EU on Huawei. Regarding them releasing the same device with different android versions in different markets, it poses an issue only to a small group of people and I agree that it is wrong to other users, but we've been complaining about different regional firmware on Huawei devices since EMUI 4, but they have only turned a cold shoulder. A single international firmware (apart from their Chinese one) would help in faster software updates to all devices.

Your last statement is the head-scratcher(as to why there's not a universal Int'l firmware...................admittedly,Huawei isn't alone here, other mfgs are guilty of the same practice.
If the carriers are involved,as in the US,with their own bloat/etc....... I have to give 'em (Huawei & others) the benefit of the doubt.
If I could disable & re-enable Phone Manager at will w/o root,or,any other system apps (ADB allows for removal, but,a factory reset is needed to bring it back),I could forgo root on this phone.....
EMUI 4,I guess that goes back a ways,LOL,I had a long gap between Huawei Devices : OG Huawei Ascend m860 w/CM7 & some of the more current Huawei/Honor devices.
Have a great weekend! :good:

I really don't get Carrier based devices as the specific distribution channel really doesn't work well in Asian markets (I'm from India). I'd really wish if Huawei / Honor took the Oneplus route with a single firmware internationally. Oneplus beats Huawei / Honor in terms of software update reputation mainly because of their ease of updating their devices worldwide. I'd also like to get an android one version of Honor flagships. That'd be great, don't you think?

I wonder why you and other people thinks bootloader unlocking has something to do with the US and EU security concerns, when it should be the other way around.
If you think about it, it's the other way around, meaning that with an unlockable bootloader, security researchers, NSA, CIA, you name it, could investigate on what's happening under the hood, while with a locked bootloader all this it's very hard to crack.
US was never concerned about Huawei devices being easy to crack because their bootloader can be unlocked, but their concerns were about China spying on US citizens, government, etc. Same goes with EU.
What would help Huawei, is open sourcing their chipset, being more transparent to the eye of the security researchers and developers, not closing their system even more.

Your comment hammers home my point, the phone was released elsewhere 1st & stands to reason that earlier adopters would have 8.1 before the newer regions.
The explanation given earlier ,that the latest EMUI has all the features of Android 8.1,regardless of which version of Android you're running,is illogical.
If that's the case, then why would Huawei bother with an updated version of Android on one region & not others.
It's crazy,so,that is why one with a model running Android 8.1 would make the assumption the other regions are on the same version......
Yes,I'm sure it's been discussed here in other threads & I've missed that discrepancy, obviously, until now.
I have no complaints w/the phone, one of the best overall I've owned, especially with the price of admission,so,I haven't had the need to read every thread & response.......

Huawei Mate 10 Pro, where's EMUI 8.1, when is OK Google gonna work, landscape homescr

Hi Members, when are UK HM10pro phone and users going to get the EMUI 8.1 firmware Android update (if ever), why does OK Google still not work, with it still greyed out, why have they still not sorted out having the home screen in landscape view (not just the apps).
I think Huawei leave a previous model behind ,like all Chinese makers, forget about there users of a previous model, and concentrate on there upcoming phone (The Mate 20 Pro)
I have the latest OTA UK user updates, I even tried that Huawei beta program app (load of rubbish, only for Chinese models).
I think this will be my first, and last Huawei phone product, I think I'll stick with Samsung next time (updates always funelled through at some point with them)
If anyone has an idea on resolving these issues, please post (I've done may full phone resets, so don't bother with this suggestion thanks)
I've also emailed Huawei many times about all the above issues, with there finale help being an update will come (or in the next update), this was months ago now, so very unreliable support.
Thanks
Same here. I regret buying mate Pro. Waiting for one plus 6t n I will get rid of this 10 pro. Absolute bollocks

Looks like we´ll never get EMUI 8.1 in the west, most likely EMUI 9 on Pie soon, as Pie beta program is running and expected to end Nov-30 so far.
Regarding UK devices, if you have some experience try rebranding to EU, which is constantly updated(on October security patch today). I posted a little guide to go UK -> EU on UK thread, check it out if you´re interested: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77825017&postcount=470
Hi All, thanks for the input and comments, so what it really comes down to is ..."don't buy Huawei again" from the vibes that I'm getting here.
I wouldn't want to do any unlocking and rooting, just to have bug fixed update, which should be offered by the manufacturer as a 'duty bound product service' provider anyway, ..no, this is not acceptable.
My only course of action is not to buy there products again, as a consumer that's the power we all have, and we should invoke this stance buy the casual manner by which Huawei, or anyother manufacturer chooses to do so.
Our mistake as buyers is, that we allow these large profit mongering technology companies to continue.
I don't include the likes of Apple, or Samsung, or Sony, these companies have a strong and proven track record, and in the end, are a safer bet with standing by there technology, and supporting there products a little more.
Thanks you members who posted comments.
Regards
Since getting a Mate 10 in February it has received improved night mode camera, monthly security updates, GPU Turbo (never used this), and face unlock. I am happy with that. Much better than Mate 9 that did not get any new features until Oreo arrived in January, and only security updates every 3 or 4 months. 8.1 is out on Chinese Mate 10 models, and Pie is on the way bring it on
This is for C185 region
OK Google Update
OK Google still not working here in UK, any idea when Mate 10 Pro will get Android Pie?? Im still on Android security Patch 1 June 2018 with no updates available? Anyone got a newer security patch?
Model BLA-L09
EMUI 8.0.0
LG and Samsung are as crap as Huawei for updates.
Good luck ever seeing an update on a LG - the wife's G6 (which was mine before she had it) had no security updates while it ran Android 7, was updated to Oreo, and has had one security update since.

I'm fully aware of that and all the other tech articles about this.
They are not true.
They are all based on a single picture released by Huawei. Journalistic misinterpretation or corporate misrepresentation - call it whatever you want, but you aren't getting EMUI 9 today or any time soon.
What really is happening is a roll-out of the final code of the Chinese build of EMUI 9 to the current members of the closed beta test. No final public roll-out, certainly no international roll-out of any kind today.
EMUI 9 is coming, it'll come to you. If you're lucky by the end of the year, but there's a decent possiblity of will come later than that.

Huawei P20 Pro. No EMUI 9.0 yet. I was under the impression that it was a global launch on 10 November.

Dunno where you get your information from but they never said that. There is no official release date.

How likely is the Huawei MediaPad M5 8 to get Android 10?

What are the chances? I know it released last year and it has been updated to 9.0, here in the UK anyway. But I want to know if it is future proof for at least the next android version. How are Huawei with updates?
My answer is based on someone in the US with a US M5, there is not a snowflakes chance in hell it's getting it. [emoji3]

To get 10 you first need to get 9.

9 is rolled out widely, but in the US. Nevertheless I doubt that we will see Android 10 from Huawei. Lucky are only those who were able to unlock their bootloader as they can use the GS images and will probably have Android 11 and ...
I saw a list of devices getting the emui 10 and only the Mediapad M6 was on it, so highly unlikely the M5 will ever see it.
haha doubt it, mine haven't even been updated to android 9... Never mind 10, its the 4g model... last update was August security patches
It's a great little tablet but still being stuck with 8 (here in the US, anyway) sucks. That lack of continuity among devices (10 on my Pixel 3XL and 4XL) is probably the most frustrating thing about living in the Android ecosystem.
My M5 10 has had official Android 9.1 for quite a while now. My latest security patch is from october this year.
I have read that the M5 Lite 8 has Android 10 available as beta in some zones, although I don't know if the sources are good.

Hi,
can you post the source please?
I have M5 10.8 LTE and I have EMUI9.1 since August 2019 and still received a few day ago security patch october 2019.
I have no insider knowledge on this, but I wouldn't rule out the possibility. On one hand Huawei have released a comprehensive list of devices to get 10 and the M5 isn't on it. But on the other hand, Huawei have a reputation to fix after the Trump/Google ban debacle, and the pinned tweet on their UK Twitter account says that they are committed to Android updates for existing devices. It wouldn't surprise me if they extend their 10 rollout just to rebuild their rep.
I inquired Huawei UK regarding EMUI 10 (as I asked specifically for my 8.5 LTE) and the customer support replied regarding the matter and said that "the software should be with you by the end of January (2020)."
