Downgrade from Pie to Oreo - LG V30 Questions & Answers

Hi guys,
Pie is laggy and buggy on my phone. Like on battery saver mode vibration continue to work, and when multitasking it's embarrassingly slow! ... The overall experience is bad. A factory reset didn't solve anything.
I want to downgrade to Oreo 22j. Can someone please guide me on how to do it?
My phone is a stock H930 and I used LGUP to update.
Thank you

It talks about how to downgrade for bootloader unlock, but it's still downgrading from Pie to Oreo. Same method.

Do you mean before the update? No I didn't. But I did after the update, which unfortunately resolved absolutely nothing.

My H930 was also laggy after the V30b OTA flashed with LG UP, even after the factory reset. Then I downgraded to 22j and flashed the V30b KDZ which became available in this time. Whole another world. Smooth as butter.

Hi Edvin73,
Sorry I didn't quite understand.
Did you receive an OTA update on your phone and it was laggy? Which method exactly worked well for you?
I flashed the KDZ available here on XDA with LGUP, and it was laggy for me.

No, I didn't receive the OTA. I flashed the leaked V30b OTA I got here on XDA. Because the experience on Pie was awful (choppy, very bad battery life) even after a factory reset, I reflashed 22j KDZ with LG UP and decided to wait for a official Pie roll out. Few days later, I found out that the official Pie upgrade is available through LG bridge. That did it. My phone is at least as smooth as on Oreo and the battery life is quite amazing but it obviously depends from personal usage. The only thing that seems different is the RAM management. Now uses more RAM with the same settings and installed apps. Regards.
PS: Completely stock, no root, no unlocked bootloader, no anything rather than complete stock.

Thank you for your answer.
Yes I also noticed that Pie uses more RAM than Oreo and the RAM management was bad and random. Maybe 4Go don't cut it anymore? I don't know.
Glad to hear that it's working perfectly for you. Unfortunately I can't update through LG Bridge, I get the "Cannot check the software version" error

It is the same for me, my battery life since I've updated my phone by OTA is awful, is it possible to downgrade without rooting my phone which I've never did?

HOW TO DOWNGRADE BACK TO OREO
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=79964731&postcount=2
While it talks about how to downgrade for bootloader unlock, it's still just downgrading from Pie to Oreo. Same method, no matter the reason.
Downgrading to Oreo KDZ has nothing to do with root. It's just most people who downgrade are doing that so they can then unlock bootloader and root (on early Oreo).
But you can downgrade to most recent Oreo, whatever you wish.
Use the method in post #2, ignore the reason most people use it.

Cheers I'm gona use this :good:

No issues on my device during the first week. Only stock Gallery app is slower and more laggy than before. It's like cache is not working there so every time I open some folder in Gallery it starts loading pictures from beginning which is causing lags.
Some other issues are there with Nova launcher and multitasksing, but this is due to this launcher. On stock everything is fine.

My LGUP showing "please use latest dll LAF protocol does not match"
Since I flashed v300l30f pie firmware on my lg v30 oreo. I started seeing this message "please use latest dll,LAF protocol does not match" .
I tried many common dll but nothing solved my problem.

You need Dev Patched LGUP compatible with Pie.
You need to update to newest Dev Patched LGUP found in any of the Pie KDZ threads I maintain. Also found in Frankenstein thread.
Uninstall any prior version. Read Installation instructions carefully!

Downgrade Nougat 7.0 to Marshmallow

I was finally able to get LG to repair my V10 under warranty to fix that overheated processor issue! Which is great, I hear people were having trouble getting LG to respond. I just asked via Facebook messenger and things got rolling.
But now I received the phone back and it's got Nougat! Nooo!! The whole point of keeping the V10 was for the wide compatibility of rooting, Xposed, customization etc and now I'm afraid I'm stuck in Nougat hell. Is there a way to downgrade back to Marshmallow safely? I'm trying to search the answers but the results are somewhat chaotic. I read that a Samsung user was able to downgrade his S7 no problem. Please point me in the right direction, anyone.
Sent from my LG-H918 using Tapatalk
Not possible currently, unless some of the Devs can come up with a way.
Sent from my LG-H870 using Tapatalk
Crap. So if I try to flash a backup I made back in Marshmallow, I'll brick?
Sent from my LG-H918 using Tapatalk
Possibly, although i don't know for certain. Nor do I know how to flash a backup without TWRP or some other recovery.

hello I'm in the same boat I got a V10 back from LG quote and quote repair shop and they f***** it up they f***** it up by first upgrading it to nougat and then be second they messed up the Google factory protection where I cannot log into my own phone. did you find a solution for downgrading from 7.0 to 6.0? in fact I had to V10 both of them useless pieces of crap 1 overheated hard brick and then the other is this LG shop defect thinking about switching to Samsung

I have seen that h901 30b and 30c both are on ARBv2. And luckily 20j and 20l are also on ARBv2 while 20e is on ARBv1. So it would be safe to downgrade an h901 from 30b or 30c to 20j or 20l using LGUP without any problems actually.

If I was to use this method, do I do "refurbish" in LGP Or "upgrade" In LGUP. I assume cause I would be going from 7.0 to 6.0 It would be refurbish. or does it not matter? I'm running the T mobile LGV10 H901 30c

Use refurbish for downgrade. I guess it should matter.
@NestorRamUre
Did you use refurbish option or upgrade option (while downgrading from 30B to 20J or L)? May be you were using upgrade option, due to which you were getting the error. If so, try it with refurbish option.

I finally have an answer as to WHY you can't downgrade to MM even though ARB wasn't incremented.
When Nougat was released, the updated laf (download mode) to only flash KDZs that have a signature. MM KDZs don't have that signature.
If someone wants to get me the partition listing (instructions in the root thread), then you guys will have root again -- even on Nougat.
-- Brian
So we're you able to figure it out?

No, it is not possible unless you are rooted, but I finally have a working root method for Nougat. Just waiting on @famewolf to provide me some information to see if it needs to be modified for the V10 (working on G4 and V20).

But, if I do the update to Pie beta, can I later upgrade the beta ROM to the official one? Does the phone stay rooted with TWRP and unlocked bootloader?
Thanks for the answers!
Yes on TWRP if you pick "partition DL" on kDZ and unchecked "recovery and recovery bak" partitions (preserving TWRP recovery) OR use TWRP flashable zip created from kdz. Neither will close the bootloader. Root needs Magisk 19.4 zip flashing afterwards

I answered in thread. You didn't follow instructions.
You tried FOTA update with full image KDZ with TWRP custom recovery INSTALLED.
I never ever have mentioned using FOTA and I never will. I specifically say IN THE INSTRUCTIONS do NOT mess with LGUP modes not mentioned in the instructions.

First, there is no US998 30a. You're trying to flash US998 30b.
See the top sentence of attached screenshot. It's right there at the top of the KDZ post where found US998 30b.
If you don't want to do all the steps of the workaround, then you should do see least update to most recent Oreo US998B 20h, from the same KDZ thread you got 20a.
EDIT:
I also just answered your almost identical question in the KDZ thread, but saw this one first. The thread is a better place to ask.

Other than impatience, the only people who I see needing this are users who would like Eastern European languages.
You have to make sure you omit three partitions or it will mess up your phone:
modem, xbl, xbl 2,
And then every time you do an update, you have to remember to again omit those three partitions. Like when EU H930 Pie 30c KDZ comes in a month or so, you can NOT choose "Update"! Or "Refurbish". Or you will have a bad day.
Every time you have to choose Partition DL and specifically omit those three partitions which are not compatible with US998.
For people who are just impatient for US998 Pie, hopefully it will come before EU H930 30c KDZ is released, but for people who are using this conversion trick on a permanent basis, they have to remember that.
It IS a neat trick, as long as you remember the caveats.

So say someone has a lg v30+ and flashed eu h930 pie. Clearly didnt read enough and had no interent while on eu pie. Decided to go back to Havoc (without backing up radio/modem). Assuming I need to reflash radio from us998 version, what would be the easiest way?
Would I need to downgrade back to oreo or just extract radio from us998 rom and flash.

So, you are saying that person didn't omit the three partitions when flashing, but instead flashed all partitions (modem, xbl, xbl 2,) and now they have no working radio? Or do they also have bootloops with no radio?
I also added a warning a couple of days ago to all the Pie KDZ threads I maintain to NOT to update to Pie at this point in time if you wish to install AOSP/Lineage ROMs:
tech_infinity said:
@ChazzMatt can you the following warning/disclaimer to the first post:
If you flash pie KDZ then AOSP ROMs like LOS, RR, havoc won't work properly. Even if you flash Oreo KDZ and then flash AOSP ROMs, the camera and flashlight won't work on enforcing but will work on permissive. But even on permissive a few sensors other than the camera may not work. This will be the case until AOSP ROMs with Pie blobs come.

You would need to go back to US998 Oreo, which I would do via Refurbish mode in Dev Patched LGUP.
But if you then want to run Havoc, you may have to use the steps in this thread:

So, you are saying that person didn't omit the three partitions when flashing, but instead flashed all partitions (modem, xbl, xbl 2,) and now they have no working radio? Or do they also have bootloops with no radio?
I also added a warning a couple of days ago to all the Pie KDZ threads I maintain to NOT to update to Pie at this point in time if you wish to install AOSP/Lineage ROMs:
You would need to go back to US998 Oreo, which I would do via Refurbish mode in Dev Patched LGUP.
But if you then want to run Havoc, you may have to use the steps in this thread:
[GUIDE] Booting AOSP after stock Pie (US998 tested only)

Yeah everything booted and worked perfectly on pie except the radio. I swear I searched before flashing but going forward was based off h930 and not converted us998.
My fault but couldn't kill this phone if I tried. Luckily it's my backup but my soon get some usage. Thanks as always.
Yes, the H930_30B pie works fine as a WiFi tablet for US998-20H. If you omit the 3 partitions (XBL, XBL2, and Modem), then GSM radio works. CDMA radio still dead though. Thus, for GSM users, go for it but CDMA users, best stick with beta pie 28A or wait for official PIE KDZ

Use "dual mode" LGUP on H930-30B flash OP https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/development/h930-lg-v30-european-market-t3951898

You have to use the newer Dev Patched LGUP that's in the H930 Pie KDZ thread. Also now listed in the Frankenstein thread. It's newer than the one listed in the Oreo KDZ threads and the one formerly listed in the Frankenstein thread.

back to stock PIE UK

Hi guys,
I'm want to go to stock LG PIE Firmware.
I have the LG H930 and am from the UK.
Can anyone help me with how to get back to stock and which PIE firmware I should use for my phone?
There seems to be a wide range of stock pie firmware and want to ensure I get the correct one.
Also wanting to unroot and lock the bootloader
Thanks,
Ross

What are you on right now?
If you have H930 and you live in UK, the answer is simply the EU H930 Pie KDZ.
[H930][STOCK][PIE]LG V30 European open market H93030b_00_OPEN_EU_OP_0704.kdz
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/development/h930-lg-v30-european-market-t3951898
I don't understand the dilemma. What other options were you considering?

I run rooted stock firmware with mods to customize and control my phone. I would never un-root and lock bootloader unless I was selling the phone.
Having TWRP custom recovery alone plus Titanium Backup app two tool I am loathe to give up.

Thanks for your help.
As much as I love a good boot loop, I just wanted to avoid one before going back to stock.
I'll check it out now

Glad to be of help. I was merely curious about the "wide range of stock pie firmware" comment.
I only post full image KDZ or TWRP-flashable zips based on full image KDZ, and I post those in the ROMs section. Full image KDZ is stock, official LG firmware. (I maintain Nougat, Oreo, Pie KDZ threads for several V30 variants, but they are all clearly labelled for which variant and which OS.)
Yes, someone has posted beta Pie partial image "update" files -- which by definition are not yet official release and possibly buggy.
Stick with KDZ and you'll be OK.

The touch does not work after installing h930 pie KDZ on us998 converted

Hello friends, I do not know if I have really damaged my phone. It is the h931 model converted to us998. Because of my desire to have a foot, I installed a KDZ of the European model h930. At the beginning the rom started without problems, after I noticed that it had no signal, I installed the Oreo us998 modem and it was still without a signal, so I went back to oreo us99820h and when it starts the screen it is welcome, the touch does not work for me. Any solution to this problem, I would appreciate suggestions and help. Thank you so much ♥

You screwed up.
NEVER NEVER NEVER flash stock H930* firmware over any North American variants. It says so in all the Instructions.
You ignored all warnings. WHY? Every Pie H93O* KDZ and TWRP flashable zip says "ONLY for H930, H930G, H930D, H930DS. Do NOT ask if others can flash this!"
Flash back to US998 Nougat to repair your damage. PARTITION DL, all partitions in Dev Patched LGUP.
Then use one of the 4 workarounds in post #6 of the US998 PIE KDZ thread to update to US998 Pie.
Did you not read about those? They are mentioned top of post #2. Go to Post #6 of the US998 Pie KDZ. Workaround #3 and #4 work for everyone. Two people yesterday said #4 worked for them.
Here's one:

woww.. It would be taking him to a technician or something. I didn't want to lose my phone that way.

Try temporarily flashing back to US998 Nougat via Partition DL mode, all partitions. See if that fixes touch. Then update to US998 Pie again.

I'm almost out of answers. All I can suggest is Partition DL to H933 Nougat. Temporarily. See if that works, then back to US998 Nougat, then update back to US998 Pie.
Is it possible your digitizer just happened to fail same time you were doing all this?

Exactly, I think that by flashing that KDZ h930, some file or something that handles the hardware of the screen has broken.

Hello Friend. I've been thinking and well, could you tell me that a "Dump" file,? Could you solve the problem with that or is it more risky?

Never used Dump file, so don't know. That's a function of LGUP where you can theoretically restore original partitions if you have a "dump" prior to making any changes. You've already made changes.
