Hi there, so recently I bought a Redmi Note 4x from a Chinese seller in an online shopping store on our country.
I opened it up to see MIUI 8 but all in Chinese, though I managed to get it to English. Got it upgraded (OTA) to MIUI 9 and 10 global stable.
When I try to unlock the bootloader (new method), I always get error 20091 on Mi Unlock Status, even though my account has been binded to my phone.
I even tried Mi Unlock tool, but it returns an error after hitting 99% *see attachment (63)*.
I'm really puzzled by this since I just found out the phone wasn't an official global version. (Thru xiaomi product verification) so I decided to try and do something about it. I even tried shifting from Global stable to Global developer, still no luck, the same errors appear on Mi Unlock status and Mi Unlock app.
I even went as far as disassembling the phone and forcing it into EDL test point mode, and then flashing global developer fastboot rom via MiFlash as stated on this guide https://c.mi.com/thread-1479882-1-0.html but still I cant unlock my bootloader and the same problems appear.
UPDATE: I also tried using an unofficial unlock tool (which made my shift from global stable to global dev possible) but the xiaomi unlock server returns me error 20038 *see attachment (64)*
I really need some help since I want to unlock its bootloader and mod this phone.
Ps. btw, I even tried using different Mi Unlock tool version, but still got the same set of problems.
That link you shared is very good. I'm really surprised that it didn't work for you.

I'm even surprised it didnt work....maybe it has something to do with my hardware itself. I do think my hardware isnt made by xiaomi, since when I opened it up, only thing I saw (that i think made by xiaomi) is the battery....does it ring any bells?
Did you solve the problem? I have a Redmi Note 8 and the xiaomi server is responding with the same code:/

Error 20091 on Mi Unlock Status was a cause of the situation that your phone was binded to another Mi Account (probably the first owner of your phone if you bought it on the cheap). This altogether explains why I have that weird chinese error with something like a Mi Account ID in the error message in Mi Unlock. Error 20038 is also the same problem in the case of the XiaoMi Unlock Tool unfortunately.
The only way to resolve this would be to ask the previous owner of the phone to unbind the phone from his/her Mi Account and then trying to bind again, at least that's what I read on Mi Community Forums (Reference: https://in.c.mi.com/thread-1731805-1-0.html)
I also have error 20091 on my phone now.... trying to unlock the bootloader.
Really hoping to see ways to solve it.
Hello. I have a Redmi Note 4 Snapdragon 64 GB which I bought used and the last user didn't log out before doing a fabric restoration and I cannot unlock the bootloader and I get an Error 20038 in XiaoMiTool-V9.11.10 (Error 20091 on Mi Unlock).
I have downloaded mido_global_images_8.12.20_20181220.0000.00_7.0_global_3947ba5143.tgz (mido_developer_fastboot), modded rawprogram0.xml, added persist.img, entered in EDL mode (with testpoint) and flashed and when starts for the first time i get a message that says "This device is locked" and "Activate this device" but I have not the original account used to bind it.
Then, now I am in a worst scenario because I didn't get to UBL and I cannot use it with MIUI. Now it is a bricked device.
Any idea of how I can get out of this situation?
Thank you very much

I think the best course of action here is to ask the person whom you bought the phone from for help. If you are from Philippines and bought RN4X from Lazada on some cheap deals, then you've got a big problem returning it nor getting help from the seller.

The person who sold me the mobile says that he doesn't know who created this MI account and then is not possible to do the unlock in the proper way. I have a mobile phone that has a key to protect it but I have not the key and the person who sold me neither.
What about this? https://romprovider.com/bypass-mi-account/

Hi,
I am trying to officially unlock for two weeks now.
I just get stuck at 50 with the Cannot Verify issue.
Opened a bug report here. Would be nice, if some of you with the same issues could support it.

just don't make any change on your phone and your mi account for about a week
Just wanna clear things up! Kate can be officially unlocked,
I had already done that way back in July.
Steps taken by me.
1. Boot into EDL mode
2. Flash Global Developer Rom
3. Login to MI account on the phone
4. Boot into Fastboot mode
5. Unlock with official tool
Tried everything and now flashing Dev Rom in EDL Mode
Still no more than 50%
I have unlock permission but fails at 50%.
Gonna wait for a few days before trying it again.
Apparently you can flash TWRP/root via this method without unlock the BL.

I updated to Global Developer with the updater app.
Had to reflash the rom with EDL, because it didn't accept my passcode any more (two weeks ago).
Still doesn't work.

Have you removed your lockscreen? fingerprint, pin, pattern, etc?
Please ensure that you've fulfill the requirements, because that point above is usually forgotten when doing this.
Kindly check it again.
Thanks.

Are you really using Kate device? Delivery outside Taiwan began 26th of August at geekbuying, AFAIK. When you bought it directly in Taiwan:
Was it originally equipped with Android 5? Which ROM did you use when you unlocked it? Where can we download it?
We other people received our RN3Pro Special Edition already with Android 6 installed, and after flashing all ROM fitting onto Redmi Note 3 Special Edition (not Redmi Note 3 Qualcomm China, not Redmi Note 3 Qualcomm Global) I *know* there is no working solution except unofficial bootloader unlock. For now, because I'm hoping Xiaomi is working on this issue.

Stayed on the same MIUI Version for over a week.
Messaged MI Support now, as my bug report with almost 30 likes doesn't even get recognized.
Xiaomi different versions LOL + "current account is not bound to this device!' error
I finally found out there are looooooooooads of Redmi types, unbelievable!
Maybe Xiaomi should minimize their offer, I thought I had a Redmi Note 3, but I finally found out it's a
Xiaomi Redmi 3 IDO (3A) Snapdragon LOL
I ordered one for my daughter, and now I see it's actually a Redmi Note 3 (bit more expensive and different at the back).
==> So i'm busy checking out how to flash, I got the official sms to unlock the locked bootloader and the first part goes to 100%, but theb I have another error : "Current account is not bound to this device!"
I'll guess some more errors will follow seen this long & difficult process
I dowloaded the latest miui_MI6Global_7.8.10_024aaf1afd_7.1 of this week, but now I need to get rid of that error & locked bootloader.
Do I need to flash an old beta rom first or something to get rid if this error message ?
Nice to see a fellow Belgian here
I am a bit confused. You are trying to flash your Redmi 3 (ido)?
Because the ROM you say you've downloaded is one for Xiaomi Mi 6...
Could you provide some information (screenshot of your 'about phone' with the current installed MIUI ROM etc?)
When I unlocked my ido's bootloader last year, I flashed the Chinese developer ROM using MiFlash, coming from a fake vendor ROM via EDL mode. Then in China dev ROM I unlocked the bootloader using MiUnlock.
After that I flashed TWRP (flash lazyscript before booting into the system or change to custom ROM immediatly because dm-verity is a b****).
I believe in recent ROMs, EDL mode was blocked by Xiaomi.
About the error: make sure you log in to the unlock tool with the same account as you are logged in to on your phone (the account with unlock permission). Then go to "developer options - Mi Unlock status" and make sure your account has been bound to the device there.
USB-debugging should be enabled, as well as OEM-unlock.
I do not know when you received the unlock code, but it is possible you'll have to wait a week or so. A lot of people have found that it suddenly works after a few days of waiting.
If you cannot switch to a developer ROM due to locked EDL mode, you should be able to flash your ido with locked bootloader using xiaomitool. http://en.miui.com/thread-835254-1-1.html
With this tool you can switch between MIUI ROMs on a locked bootloader.
I don't see any reason on why you download Mi 6 (sagit) recovery ROM instead of Redmi 3 (or Redmi Note 3 if it's what you're talking about) one. For "Current account is not bound to this device" error, wait for at least a week after you bind your Mi account with your phone before unlocking.
Good luck.

Haha greetz to Belgium too Yes I was a long time since I checked the latest roms / Xiaomi phone versions
Now I have a rooted stable MIU9 V9.2.2.0 Laicnek and looking for the best battery saving Kernell, hope I can flash this simply with TWRP as everything is installed allready
What do I need to choose again in the options to flash a Kernell only ?
Otherwise the Lineos 15 with the latest Oreo (if there is an official version 15 already, as I see only a beta 2)
Apparently I have bought Redmi 5 plus (MPEG7) which was locked with Mi Account or what. The phone works normally, but I cannot add my Xiaomi Account because it gives me some error I don´t remember now.
Tried to update the firmware manually, didn´t help. So I decided to do factory reset, and then, soon after the set up screen I connecet to wifi, my Xiaomi got locked. It says I need to sign in on account which was previously been there.
The guy who sold me this phone, aware me of this, I should not do factory reset because this will happen, but I thought If there is no Mi Account on this phone I am good to go.
Luckily I found local repair shop who helped me to revive this phone by bypassing Mi Account somehow. I can use it with my Gmail account and I still can´t add my Xiaomi Mi Account.
So here goes my question now, how much I can do about that here. Unlocking bootloader and installing custom recovery would help me here. But the thing is I can´t enter my Mi Account on my phone, so that means no unlocking bootloader for me, at least nothing officially.
So my questions goes. Is there any way to unlock bootloader without having MI Account on the phone?
And before I forgot, if I don´t unlock the bootloader, and the phone stay in the same condition, will my phone lock itself again after I update it to MIUI 11, once when the update is available?
For now it is on the latest MIUI available, 10.2 Stable, OEGMIXM
Thanks in advance

Hello!
I have a problem similar to this. And I've been looking for some answers on that. With the current state of the device, I have how to unlock the bootloader, and then install a custom recovery and rom? So far I have not found any answer that is favorable to me. Other than paying for the service.

As far I have did some further research, unfortunately for us there is no solution to this. Basically the phone is connected with the Mi Cloud servers. As there is no alternative to unlock the bootloader, other than the official way, if in any case we got to sign in our account on the phone, the phone will lock itself eventually.
The only solution is the person who owned the phone have to remove the phone from the Mi Cloud service.
I hope at least we will get MIUI 11 and the update will not lock our device again.
If you want to know more about this, I have created a thread on Mi Community forum, so you can check there, one guy tried to help me about this problem, but no success

Hello!
I am also getting help to solve the problem. But, it has been 25 days that after sending some photos of the device screens nothing happened regarding the unlock. That is, it remains blocked. I tried help from S-Unlock but showed no interest in solving the problem. I need to find another company or someone to unlock the device next to the server. Feel free to help me if you want.
Hello,
Suddenly, just 1 month after the end of warranty my Xiaomi Mi Play stopped working showing "The system has been destoryed" message on recovery. I have read some articles and I have found that this could be fixed by flashing the ROM, but my problem is that bootloader is locked and I kept in this way for security purposes.
I know I can use the target app (https://c.mi.com/thread-2262302-1-0.html) to unlock it, but it also need some steps at android level (per attached image), which I don't have access anymore.
So my question is: add my account for unlock the unlocking permission is something which is at phone or at account level?
I mean, if it's something at the phone level there is no way to fix, but if it's at account level, I may fix the issue by using another Xiaomi device.
Can someone please clarify to me, or may I have any hints please?

Hello,
I ran into the same issue a couple of months ago. I was EU rom using mi flash and accidentally selected the 'clean and lock' option. There are a few ways you could try to fix your phone:
1. If you have a mi account that is registered to the phone, you could login to mi unlock using that account and try unlocking the bootloader and then flash using mi flash.
2. If you don't have a registered mi account then your options are pretty limited. You could try a go to a service center but like me there might not a one in your region. The only other option edl test point. There are many people, mostly russian or indian, who have an authorized mi account and are selling their services. A quick youtube search and you'll find many options. They remotely connect to your computer and use their authorized account to unlock your bootloader and flash the factory rom. They usually charge anything from 25 to 30 usd.
There is a way you could apply for authorization from mi but judging from the many forums it is vary rare to get a reply let alone get authorized.
Unfortunately there is no other way to Unbrick your device until now.

Hello,
Thank you for your reply.
My Mi account was registered on the phone, but once I login to "mi unlock" and try to unlock, I got the error attached.
I am suspecting some operations on the phone were required in advance.
I mean, I have never applied for my Mi account to being able to unlock or something, is there a specific page where to do now (e.g. on a differenr Xiaomi phone, online, etc.)?

Hi
I want to unlock my Pocophone F1. I enabled developer options, activated OEM unlocking, USB debugging and created an xiaomi account. However, I have a problem, when trying to add the account to mi unlock status. I keep getting the error: Couldn't add. Device does not exist in the server
When trying to use the mi unlock tool, I get the message to add my account to mi unlock status when I'm at 99% which I can't due to the error above. Tried serveral versions I found.
I have a sim card inserted, tried logging out and back, even factory-resetted the phone but still getting the error. Already waiting since 3 days. Does it help to wait a few days more or is this just waisted time?
My Pocophone F1 is brandnew. Could this be an issue?
Thanks.

Yes, but there isn't really much to follow because I can't get past step 5.
Well, that's kind of frustrating.
I've tried pretty much everything with no success. I wrote to Xiaomi customer service and they basically told me that they will not help me because unlocking the bootloader is not a typical customer service (I thought unlocking the bootloader is a feature of this phone as they provide an official way and tool for it). They also told me not to do that for security reasons and that I will void my warranty (although that's not true afaik - I don't care about the warranty anyway). I don't know if I'm allowed to post the content of the mail, but there isn't any other useful information in it anyway.
I'll try again occasionally over the next two weeks or so and then just sell it. Unfortunately, the back of the phone has a very small, almost not noticable scratch, so I don't think I can return it to the store where I bought it (the phone is only a week old).
Too bad, I really like the hardware, but the phone is unusable for me with a locked bootloader. It's like buying a TV, but the TV only has one channel and you're not allowed to change the channel. Well, it's not really the same, but you get the point.
This was the first and last time I bought a Xiaomi phone.
Cheers
