MicroG on LG30 - anyone successful? - LG V30 Questions & Answers

I wasn't able to find any MicroG thread with V30 so here we go.
I am after the point of rooting the device and now trying to figure out best ROM option.
Ideally I would like to use MicroG as I like the idea of maneuverability and full control over Gapps - seems to be better option than AOSP + Gapps as Gapps going to send out mobile info with or without Google account anyway.
I have h931 on oreo so as I understand I should use Joan version of Lineage I want to flash but it's not on the list on official LineageOS with MicroG page.
Have anyone tried to flash any of those ROMs
https://download.lineage.microg.org/
or installed MicroG after Lineage and is successful so far?
Goal is to install and use Banking app when it's needed and then switch off all Google functionality.
Thanks

Most ROMs support MicroG.
I randomly searched in the ROM forum here and this was in the OP of one:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/development/rom-cosp-pie-t3930546
"Also, we provide the option to go completely without GApps using MicroG support."
Best to go down to the ROMs, find one you like and read their OP, then ask questions.
If you want Lineage specifically see bottom part of this post:

I'm on COSP with an H932 and am considering making the jump to microg once I have had the time to understand the process pretty well. As @ChazzMatt said there are a few threads on XDA dealing with this. Do a search and you'll find what you need. I also found this site useful "https://gitlab.com/Nanolx/NanoDroid/blob/master/README.md#installation-process"
It gives a lot of info on the install side, but also some on the after install. Once I have the time to give this a try I'll post my results.
Sent from my LG-H932 using Tapatalk

I hope for you this will be useful.
Im on Oreo V22j, with fully functional MicroG.
On the previously version V22h(?) I had MicroG only ever y second boot working.
I installed the ROM complete clean, delete all Google Apps, from ROM, patched the service.jar to support signature spoofing and push the apks witch I get from micro g site in /priv-app Folder.
Since it works perfectly.

The YouTube Vanced thread has a modified microG that works well along regular pre-installed GApps.

It has to be the most wicked thing I've read in a while.
You basically binned whole Gapps folder
I am probabaly doing terrible job searching the forum but couldn't find Oreo 22j I hope you just flash it after h and it's all good.
I still have doubts that somehow after removing whole Gapps there is some part of LG bloatware coded inside ROM rejoicefully sending data about mu phone usage.
I was going to go for your solution but this came to my mind.
Anyways @Nemeziz 56th can you please provide more details about the process? Where is it from?
Thanks

His EU H930 22j = US998 22h. You would be using US998 22h, unless Pie comes for US998 this week.
Different V30 variants are on slightly different Oreo firmware number/letter combinations. The latest Oreo US998 is 22h, while the last Oreo for EU H930 is 22j. (Yes, they have Pie 30b now, but let's keep the discussion to Oreo.) It doesn't mean they are more advanced than US998 (on Oreo) -- it's just H930 Oreo launched before North American variants got Oreo last year -- so they had a couple extra security update releases before US998 20a hit. While the numbering is slightly different, the features are the same.
The only V30 variant that is different at this point in time on Oreo firmware is the Canada H933. For some reason they never got the DTS 3D stereo framework everyone else got in the late 2018/early 2019 Oreo firmware updates.

Ended up without MicroG for now as I will try to install it on another device.
Thank you for your input all.

My Problem was, I delete to much things, where I thought it was bloatware. At the end my Google Keep,QuickMemo Notes and some other stuff was not able to work.
It took me 2-4x of reflashes to find out that Google Chrome was the App which force close Google Keep, when I delete it(Only freezing it is safe)
I did a clean flash (Wiping everything in TWRP) then put the V22J which I get from here (https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/development/rom-fw-lg-v30-joan-h930-eu-21h-twrp-t3864728)
I root the device with magisk (it shouldn't be a problem to find the right zip.) and flash the nano patcher zip which patch the service.jar to support signature spoofing (https://downloads.nanolx.org/NanoDroid/Stable/)
Let it boot first time and then starting to remove bloatware with Solid Explorer. (Important to know not to delete the bloatware from the twrp recovery before the device did his first boot, because you will get System UI force close. It was a experience that I get.
I delete Google Play Market, Google GMS and the Play Record Service (which show you your achievement in games), YouTube nearly everything. I will attach some screenshots.
Then I freeze and delete LG Apps. I recommend to freeze the LDB apk not to remove because the system could start massive wakelock.(I get some on older version)
Then just put these all apks: https://microg.org/download.html in PRIV-APP and set the permission to 777
Boot to Recovery wipe cache.
And now I was able normal to set up my phone.
When you delete apps and you don't know are these apps important just serach for there name in Google.

considering buying a honor 5x

i currently use metro pcs . i would like to buy a good phone.
ive been considering the samsung j7 but the specs on the honor 5x look better.
ive been reading up and it looks like it accepts the metro pcs sims.
according to various reviews, the main issue with the honor 5x is the android interface.
i would like to know which is the best way to get a stock android rom while keeping the phone functional. ??
would installing a stock android be alot better than the current interface the phone comes with ? { is it worth it }
also .. can i play games like hitman sniper on the honor 5x ??
Got Modacco rom no problems or lags i camera from almost stock android
i just bought the phone from new egg, now im looking for a tutorial that shows how to change to a custom rom.
also... instead of custom rom, will i be able to increase performance by using another launcher instead of emui ??
or
am i better off installing a custom rom for maximum performance ?

Nova Launcher is considerably better than the stock EMUI launcher, though I'm not sure that would increase performance... If a faster phone's what you're looking for, then flash a custom ROM, preferrably one that's debloated and as close to AOSP (stock) as possible, so you don't have Huawei's apps slowing down your device. I'm currently using EMUI and fine with it until fingerprint support comes to stock ROMs, but many people agree that customs are much better, faster and stable than EMUI.
Since you didn't specify wether it's your first time flashing a ROM or doing advanced stuff, I'll advise you to read up carefully and thoroughly about what you're getting into - step-by-step guides are nice, but knowing what you're actually doing will most definitely come in handy in the future!
ive flashed a couple of tablets and phones.
theres two so far im willing to try , cm12 and modaco
ive been doing some research and I have some questions....
1- with cm12 does every thing work fine ? ex. fingerprint hdr etc..
2- with modaco does everything work fine ? ex. fingerprint hdr etc..
i want all of the phones features without any compromise

only the stock base roms have FP support ...Modaco is a stock base rom
none of the CM based roms have FP support - bliss - crdroid - aokp - RR - cm12 and cm13 all fall in this category

Hey. I have the honor 5x too. I installed a rom called resurrection remix os.
It is a really solid ROM and increases your performance greatly. It is based on cm 13. Everything works and is stable (on my phone at least). The only thing that doesn't work is the FP scanner. I only tried this ROM so I don't know how the other ROMs for this device perform. So far this has been a really stable option for me. Try it if you want.
Sent from my KIW-L21 using XDA-Developers mobile app
jimandroidnerd thncx for the input , i will try it first to see the best performance the honor 5x can give.
im mainly looking at "modaco" rom or the " rom-stock-b151-stock-rooted-deodexed-t3355130 " because they are either the stock or based on the stock rom.
also i want that fp scanner to work.
WAIT... i just noticed that modaco is only for the KIW-L21 ???
im getting a KIW-L24. what are my best options now with fp support??

Honestly, if you so desperately want FP support, stay on stock, or debloated which would be the most "custom" you'd get afaik. I'm also waiting for FP support so I know the feeling... There are some nice features in EMUI (that Themes customization app is a great thing honestly, I love it, for example) but I would like to run a custom ROM someday. We'll have to wait for the security base release I guess...
ima put in a stock.debloated.root rom and call it a wrap.
if im unsatisfied with the performance ill try resurrection remix os
and just not use the fingerprint.
im getting a KIW-L24 { as mentioned in post #8}
modaco is only for KIW-L21 { as far as i know }
i want a debloated rom that is stable , no glitches .
all reviews i read so far for this phone are positive,
except the emui interface and the preloaded bloatware .
i know im buying a budget phone , but i want it to work as smooth it possibly can

My bad, I missed the conjunction "or" in your sentence : "im mainly looking at "modaco" rom or the " rom-stock-b151-stock-rooted-deodexed-t3355130 ""...
But nobody than you can say what is a bloatware or not so even though Clsa's rom is good better create your own ROM removing what YOU consider as bloatwares.
Since Xposed framework v83 you can also install it by yourself without the need of a deodex firmware : you just have to consider the pros & cons of "deodex vs odex firmwares". Actual working version of Xposed framework for the Honor 5x is v85.
The other problem except EMUI is the lack of OTG feature as default and some other few stuffs...

Well, you actually CAN tell what is bloatware and what isn't, the only difference would be wether you find a particular app useful enough to not consider it a bother on the system...
There's basically no theoretical downside to deodexed ROMs or files, apart from boot time if you wipe dalvik. A question: is Xposed v85 a flashable .zip like normal Xposed? I read somewhere on here that you had to modify system files to do that, but I'f be very happy to know that the Honor 5X now has proper and easy Xposed installation available.
Arobase40 said:
Well I won't argue on what is bloatware or not as this is mainly personal to one another and I won't argue either against deodex vs odex ROM as as I said we now have the choice between apps customizations and ROM performance...
What only matter is your question : you can flash any Xposed Framework zip file with TWRP, but since v83 till v85 you can flash them whether you have deodex or odex firmware and the only change you have to do is to modify the build.prop file.
I actually have Xposed Framework v85 on my odex firmware and it works pretty well.

So by flashing v85, I still have to change the build.prop file? Is there any guide on doing this? Honestly I'd rather wait for v86 if it means not having to edit system files, but if it's unavoidable, then I guess it can't be helped...
just got the phone yesterday. after i deleted some apps and changed emui to "google now launcher"
it seems to run fine. ill give it a week before i start changing the rom
Arobase40 said:
I don't think a v86 would be of any help, just a new Xposed framework installer app...
Otherwise you simply need a root explorer (or kind of same app with root rights).
If you don't want to do the changes directly into your system, you can copy the build.prop file to your Sd Card (keep an unmodified copy somewhere just in case), and do the changes from there with a notepad or such. Then copy the modified build.prop back to the system folder keeping the same permissions and reboot... That's it !

I'm actually reluctant to modify system files if at all possible not to do so since I almost bricked my 5X doing just that (well, kind of, stupid mistake but still...). I'm missing the easy Xposed framework installer honestly. I really hope someone creates an installer for this, or a single flashable zip that also modifies build.prop...
I also just got the device yesterday. Was surprised it allowed me to delete the bloatware on it! I guess they were nice and did not install them on the system partition.
ALso interested in any performance tweaks. Like the phone and os in general but with "budget" processor it would be good to have it running as light on resources as possible.

For performance there are custom, stock or debloated ROMs, and in case you're looking for something in addition to EMUI in order to make it faster I recommend you the apps "L Speed", "Greenify" (guessing you already know this one), and "Kernel Adiutor" if you're into kernel tweaking. Putting your cores on Performance governor should speed the device like hell, at the cost of battery life, but you can tweak it to a smaller degree and find your balance.

But I was polite though... I think. It's probably got more to do with the fact that it's the general Xposed thread so your message gets buried behind bug reports and other questions, I guess. I was searching for other ways of contacting the dev but desisted upon finding that in the FAQ.

The best custom firmware without bugs.

Hello dear users and developers of firmware for the device LG V30+
Today I became the owner of LG v30+ 4/128 (H930DS), currently it has a software version installed: Android 7.1.2, Kernel version 4.4.63, Software version V10d-IND-XX (I don’t quite understand what the last meaning means)
I respect all developers of firmware for this device, but I want to ask which firmware is more stable (where both camera modules work well and there is support for the built-in analog digital converter) and has more functions in terms of interface customization? Interested in Android version 8 and 9.
Thank you for paying attention to this thread. :fingers-crossed:

"10" means Nougat
20 would be Oreo.
Your best bet right now is to update to early Oreo (pre-July 2018) to unlock bootloader, install TWRP and root. Then update to current rooted Oreo firmware.
Everything will work, and you can flash Magisk modules to get some custom stuff.
See WTF thread for bootloader unlock and TWRP.

Yes, stay on Oreo stock firmware, but unlock bootloader, install TWRP. After that, there's an updated stock OREO H930DS TWRP-flashable zip you can flash to update to latest Oreo.

Stock firmware uses gapps, otherwise you wouldnt have any play services on the phone when you buy it
And how much of the gapps are used depends on how much google makes the manufacturers install, changes every now and then.

Does the standard firmware already have GApps? I would not want to have a GApps core in a smartphone.
Even if we take into account the smallest NANO package, then it has the following components and telemetry as a gift.
Device Health Services
Google App (Search)
Google Package Installer (replaces stock / AOSP Package Installer)
Google Play services
I would like a clean firmware without any trace of google. What can you recommend?

You don't need "GAPPs" on stock. The firmware has what it needs already.
You are complicating the requirements if you now also want no Google. You wanted no bugs.
Tell you what. Unlock the bootloader, install TWRP and root, and update to latest firmware. After that, you're on your own.
You can install whatever custom ROM you want, but there's none with no bugs at this point in time.

I apologize for the concern, I am very grateful for your help. But I still do not understand. Is Android upgraded from the air with the Nougat 7.1.2 V10d-IND-XX version to V10e-JAN-23-2018 version? (This is exactly what my smartphone is now offering, as it writes on the display of the device)
In your "WTF" thread, I read about my device:
US998 Oreo, European H930 Oreo, H930DS Oreo, and open market V30S Oreo have the fastboot flash commands and boot loader unlock flaw. (With pre-July 2018 security patch firmware; don't worry, we can get you there.) At present, if you have post-July Android security patch, you can downgrade to unlock your bootloader.

Please do not mention any "10" (Nougat) firmware you are seeing. I've told you 3 times now that's old, outdated. You need "20" Oreo, but to UNlock bootloader you need specific version of Oreo before then updating to current Oreo. It will have a 20. Like 20A.
Updating from old version of Nougat to slightly less old version of Nougat does no good. You can NOT unlock H930DS bootloader on Nougat. You need to jump to specific version of Oreo.

The only exception is for India H930DS for those that need India carrier Jio VoLTE.

Congratulations! You successfully updated to Oreo and followed the WTF instructions to it install TWRP and root.
What version firmware are you on now? Are you on H930DS or H930 firmware? If H930DS, which one? CIS?
Did you update to newer firmware after the bootloader unlock TWRP and root stage? LG improved the camera more with latest Oreo updates.
I have Settings screenshot suggestions with Google Photos link in that thread and my KDZ threads. Everyone has their own preferences, but there's so many deep (almost hidden) menus on this device it's easy to overlook some useful toggle (like the lock screen weather animations). And with root, I've been able to enable them all -- not just the two LG has as default.
I've also enabled call recorder and installed some other mods. I also use this one, but may not be compatible with your H930DS/H930.

I don't know the answer to that. I know there are AOSP custom ROMs which can be used without GAPPs and you can install MicroG. The problem until recently with the custom ROMs for the V30 (I said recently) has been replicating various functionality of stock firmware as well as stock firmware. VoLTE, quad DAC (with digital filters), cameras, Always On Display, brightness controls on display, no audio on apps like WhatsApp. A lot of that has been fixed or improved considerably and is still under constant development -- but the title of this thread is "best custom firmware without bugs"... At this point in time I'm not sure that exists, but may in the near future.
For me, I'm running rooted stock firmware with various mods and you can also debloat stuff like the social media apps you do not use. There are threads around about what is "safe" to remove and what isn't. The problem is you besides "no bugs", then you threw in additional "no Google" requirment.
So, run most recent rooted stock firmware for awhile just so you know how it feels. Flash some mods so you can get some customization. THAT will be your baseline. THEN, after making good TWRP backup, you can try experimenting with some of the AOSP ROMs with microG. Good luck.

What version firmware are you on now? Are you on H930DS or H930 firmware? If H930DS, which one? CIS?
Did you update to newer firmware after the bootloader unlock TWRP and root stage? LG improved the camera more with latest Oreo updates.

I apologize for the wording “completely without errors”, I meant without critical errors, such as spontaneous reboot, camera drop after one shot or during video recording, constant disconnection from Wi-Fi. With the wording "without errors", which I had in mind the most common critical errors. I went through all these errors on the zuk z1 device, but today the camera and stabilization, calls, sounds and other functions work perfectly for him, the only thing that did not suit me in this device was 64 GB of memory without the possibility of expanding the microsd card and processor the old x32 architecture and the inefficient Adreno 330 graphics core without Open GL 3.2 support
Now the firmware H930DS20c_00_OPEN_CIS_DS_OP_0419 is installed on my device, in the item “Check for updates” it is written that today I have the latest software version, but I suspect that I don’t know the forum and the updates don’t come because the bootloader is unlocked,
First, I will try to update the firmware to the latest version (if I find how to do it) and remove all unnecessary programs, if nothing good comes of it, then most likely I will install AIS firmware (recommended on another forum with a link to the xda forum )
Tell me, now with the help of root and twrp I can make a full backup of the firmware data H930DS20c_00_OPEN_CIS_DS_OP_0419, and then I can restore it through the same twrp?

https://lg-firmwares.com/downloads-file/16406/H930DS20e_00_OPEN_CIS_DS_OP_0824.kdz
The way you would flash it is via LGUP, but UNcheck "recovery" partitions to keep TWRP custom recovery. Then you would boot to TWRP and re-flash the no encryption, no root checker files and Magisk again. It's somewhat a pain, which is why people like to flash the TWRP-flashable zip versions when available.

Reboot into TWRP using the app shortcut I suggested in the WTF thread and go to backup and make a backup. If you use internal memory it's FAST to make backup, but probably also want to use microSD card (much slower) storage so that if you completely wipe your phone you have that backup in a safe place. When you go to restore you will navigate to the place you stored it on your phone.

Fortunately all of the Google related apps can be disabled in the settings on the stock ROM (US998). I'm running stock non-rooted and Google-less with amazing battery life. If you are rooted then you can even use Titanium Backup to freeze anything Google.

H93120c to LineageOS, how please

Hi everyone,
H93120c variant seems to be more difficult to root as expected.
Need someone who has knowledge how to do it as there are not unanimous info about it.
All I know is that I have to downgrade to one of the previous versions like H930 or USXXX.
Help, appreciated

H931 has been rooted since May 2018, over a year ago.
There is "unanimous" info about it here on XDA. It's not difficult. It's just like Canada H933, Sprint LS998, Verizon VS996, regional AS998.
You just haven't read the Root Sticky yet or WTF instructions.
I suggest you start with post #1 of this sticky:
ROOT YOUR V30!
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/how-to/root-v30-t3927154
This is just for rooted and running stock firmware.
_______
Now, running AOSP/LINEAGE custom ROMs on H931 & H933 takes extra work, but there's guides in this forum for that.
Installing custom roms is something different from rooting. I've been rooted for over 1.5 years on V30, but still running stock firmware with mods.
Thank you for reply.
I have actually found whole instruction of how to do it.
Now after flashing to US996 I switched on phone (unneccesarily) and it forced me to connect to WI FI and after flashing OREO (2nd step in Frankenstein method) it updated straight away via wi fi to latest security patch which doesn't allow flashing new_unlock.bin.
So I need to flash again both roms but LGUP doesn't recognize my device anymore.
I am going to try out this Uppecut from this post https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/development/uppercut-lgup-loader-g5-variants-t3511295
They don't mention v30 though, so will see.
Thanks

1) Uppercut doesn't work on Oreo.
2) Now that you are on US998 Oreo 20h, you can use Dev Patched LGUP to downgrade back to 20a or 20b. You don't need to flash Nougat.

Can't do as Dev patched LGUP I successfully did the operations with, doesn't recognize my device anymore (after flashed roms and unluckily updated to 2019 patch): After running LGUP and connecting the phone, in LGUP menu under model shows as "Unknown".

I did try a lot of settings, installing and uninstalling drivers, changed USB ports and accidentally was able to discover the device properly - what helped was to simply unplug and plug in usb cable while still on USB download mode.
Now I want to flash to Lineage and cannot find my previous h931 model on the list:

Should I choose h930 then?

Yes.
Read the Root Sticky, post #2.
ROOT YOUR V30!
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/how-to/root-v30-t3927154
* It tells how for all models EXCEPT H932, you can use "H930" AOSP/LINEAGE custom ROMs.
* And it also tells how former H931/H933 need EXTRA prep work before being able to install AOSP/LINEAGE custom ROMs.
This is what it's referring to:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/how-to/running-h930-aosp-rom-us998-converted-t3889320
This is one reason why in the Root Sticky, I also recommend running rooted stock firmware (and maybe install the Anxious V30 Magisk module for various mods), until you read through all that and get prepared.
ANXIOUS V30 MODULE
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/themes/anxiousv30-magisk-mod-t3865146
I've got it rooted, now from what I've read I can either
1 Upgrade to from b to h twrp stock (and maybe after some time go for e and then custom rom, in that case - can I downgrade easily?)
OR
2 Go for e straight up and then Lineage (following all necessary steps)
This is going to be opinion question now:
Is there any particulal reason u stayed on stock apart from audio and camera updates?
My goal with Lineage was to separate from google, I am afraid if I stayed on stock (even rooted) there is still going to be a lot of private data sent out in the background.
Is this viable on stock?
Thanks

OK, I will answer as long as you realize this is only MY opinion. I am only telling the reason for MY choice.
On every device except for this one (all phones/tablets since 2010 for me and my wife and even friends), I've alway run custom ROMs. I even wrote threads about custom ROMs available for certain devices, and what had recently been updated, who the devs were, etc. So, you know where I'm coming from.
However, on my V30, while I am rooted I have not installed AOSP/Lineage custom ROMs. I chose not to, because in the beginning the DAC didn't work with custom ROMs. Now it does. But LG camera doesn't work and neither does the DTS 3D Stereo libs. (The most common question in the custom ROM threads is how to get back LG stock camera; you can't.) Also it's my understanding (correct me if I'm wrong), but no V30 AOSP/Lineage custom ROMS have VoLTE. (doesn't' affect me personally as my AT&T Prepaid plan on my NON-AT&T branded phone doesn't qualify -- but for many people, they need VoLTE.)
Plus initially there were stability problems with early custom ROMs, where various people complained their phone was randomly rebooting several times a day. Again, that was in the past (early 2018), which I know is not the current state of custom ROMs. Still, in my current job, I need my phone working all the time for business communication, dealing with often urgent issues.
I found with rooted stock stable firmware, I had total control of my phone -- while having DAC, LG Camera, DTS 3D stereo. I could install mods like Anxious V30 omnibus module, and even Gravity Box and Xstana to add more functionality and even customize status bar icons. I also use Nova launcher with my own choice of icon pack, my own wallpaper.
I know the devs work VERY hard to make the custom ROMs as good as they can be, and I appreciate that. Many people come to the V30 for the easy rooting and because of the custom ROMs. But too many people root their V30 and IMMEDIATELY jump into custom ROMs without even updating their firmware back to most recent stock firmware first. (T-mobile H932 is the worst for that; you have to root that variant on Nougat and people then try to jump from that to Lineage Pie and it's a nightmare. Causes their fingerprint sensor not to work, etc.) This makes their custom ROMs buggy and they become disillusioned, when after rooting they should update to most recent stock firmware (necessary for good custom ROM foundation), and take a couple of days to read the various custom ROM threads to see what works, what doesn't.
Also, then when they do install a custom ROM (after making a TWRP backup) if something acts wonky, they will have a better idea if it's that ROM or the phone, since they have rooted stock firmware experience to compare. If it's that ROM, then go try another.
_____
Regrettably, you have one of the two V30 variants (H931/H933) which don't like AOSP/Lineage custom ROMs, at least after simply unlocking bootloader and rooting. Through much experimentation, users of those variants have found methods to "inoculate" their phones so they CAN run those custom ROMs.
First of all thank you for your opinion and great help so far.

So what I've read is that Gapps sends data in the background about ur phone even without account.
This is my main concern with stock ROM, unless you have blocked all connections on AFWall for all Gapps what actually give you the guarantee that it is not doing that?
You probably don't really want to block all Gapps functionality anyway.
This is the power that comes with MicroG - easliy block / unlock when you needed with proper sandboxing and the fact that custom ROM is Open Source confirms that there is no operations going on without your consent in the background.
However, on my V30, while I am rooted I have not installed AOSP/Lineage custom ROMs. I chose not to, because in the beginning the DAC didn't work with custom ROMs. Now it does. Lastly, after I am not satsified with the Lineage and humbly want to come back to stock ROM. Can I like, just flash previous ROM? Let's say I install H933(20G), then US998(E), then custom ROM.

VoIP apps should work. On another device with custom ROM, my Google Voice VoIP works fine, even though that custom ROM doesn't have VoLTE capability.

Yes, there are versions of GCam were you can switch to wide-angle lens. I kept track of GCam ports in the early days, but haven't for the past few months. Better to ask in the ROM threads, where that is what they have to use.

To come back to stock rooted, two ways:
1) flash latest US998 20h Oreo KDZ via Refurbish in LGUP (or Pie if released by then). You should still have unlocked bootloader (confirmed by the "scary" bootloader unlock warning LG throws in your face for a few seconds).
Reinstall TWRP and flash the three root files again (encryption disabler, root check disabler, Magisk) < Those instructions would work for your scenario also.
OR
2) while on custom ROM -- where you still have TWRP -- you would merely flash the stock firmware TWRP-flashable zips (ROM) we have for US998 + Magisk. There are two caveats, however... For some reason you need to flash 20e, 20f, 20g, 20h TWRP-flashable zips all back-to-back in TWRP, then flash Magisk 18.X. (You can "stack" them to flash successively + Magisk, before rebooting.)
Also the Oreo TWRP flashable zips don't like Magisk 19.x. So, you would need to temporarily downgrade to Magisk 18.X until after you successfully reboot after the 20h TWRP flashable zip.
Maybe with Pie TWRP-flashable zip, when it arrives, will be different -- where you would only need to flash one TWRP flashable zip. But right now due to the massive audio framework changes starting with 20f, they sort of all build on each other (increments): 20e, 20f, 20g, 20h.
The TWRP-flashable zips (ROM versions of the KDZ files) are found in the US998 KDZ thread.
I'm on Lineage successfully! Great. Only thing left to do is to enable wide lens on GCam. Which I find troublesome.
Got GApi2 Enabled but still Camera app won't start (I mean GCAm) as normal Camera app is working.
I have tried two versions of GCam and both react the same.
So I've done what the guys said in the post for h931 to do first h933 20g then us998 20e then straight up to Lineage.
Now I think whether I should go flash maybe some roms in the middle in order for GCam to work, maybe I should include " 20e, 20f, 20g, 20h TWRP-flashable zip" before even going for instruction in the post (to install h993 20g).
What do you think?

I solved my problem. First the file explorer does not have install privilege by default so I gave it the oermission. Then it was duckduckgo browser fault. It removes the extension part, I had to rename the file with an ".apk" at the end.
It might help someone in the future.

root isn't necessary, just an unlocked bootloader and working USB drivers.
I'm not aware of a list but it would be interesting to see one. Narrowing your question to specific apps might fetch a better answer. At one time I ran /e/ Foundations's ROM and never came across app barriers I thought mattered for a de-googled phone.

update : found what i need from aurora store and work on calyx v. 3.1.1
I flashed CalyxOS on Friday with MicroG and I have to say I'm not missing anything so far apart from Google Pay. All my other apps work as they should.
The only problem is some of my most used apps are activated via in app purchases which isn't detected by the Aurora Store, so I've contacted the devs to see if there is a way to activate it manually.
All in all I'm really happy with Calyx so far.
Hi, can someone help me go back to stock rom after installing calyxos .
Update after about a month of CalyxOS and one OTA update. Really happy. Was adamant that I would go with GrapheneOS but somehow COS looked good out of the box and fit my use case real well (no microg). Fdroid, Aurora, Signal all pre loaded for me.

I'm not the developer of this rom obviously, but the Calyx team recently released CalyxOs for the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro in Beta version.
Let's just use this thread to give feedbacks, opinions about this ROM and how it performs on your device!

Help me breathe new life into my OP7T PRO ME - ROM/KERNEL/Tweak recommendations

Hi everyone. I still use this amazing phone. Currently on latest official firmware android 12 with bootloader unlocked. I decided since I have never formatted it, to now format and reinstall the best firmware / kernel etc cleanly to get it back to it's full potential.
I'm looking for recommendations on android 12 roms, any kernel that increases performance and possibly overclock, and any other tweaks for sound/cameras/software features from newer devices you would recommend.
Also I have a couple of everyday apps I wish to use (namely banking and netflix) that are affected by the unlocked bootloader and won't support my phone correctly. Any way to rectify that without locking the bootloader? If not, if I lock the bootloader can I still use a tweaked rom/kernel?
Thanks in advance!
Is this board dead already?

I don't know, but I think everyone is moving from forum's to Telegram. At least when it comes to custom roms. I wont use Telegram because it wants me to set my phone number, and I can't do that.
Last time I used custom roms was when I had a Nexus 6. Compared to my Nexus, flashing for our Oneplus is a mess. For flashing custom roms, for some roms you need to be on Oxygen 11 and for some you need to be on on Oxygen 12 (which I'm still waiting for). So before choosing what rom you want to try, one needs to decide if you should update to Oxygen 12 or not. Some roms based on android 12 you need to flash from Oxygen 11 or you will loose Widevine L1 if you are unlucky. This is not a problem if you don't care about Widevine.
As you, I want a rom based on android 12 as rom based on android 13 is still under development and might be buggy. I want it to be as stable it can be... The rom I am planing to try first is Flamingo OS 12. This one unfortunately does not have a thread on xda, and conversations is only over Telegram. Here is a guide if you want to try it.
I would not recommend to use any custom kernel as you wont get any help from developer (if you see a bug in the rom), and I doubt there is any gain of using custom kernels on a custom rom.
Sorry to not having any recommendations for you!

Thanks..its sad xda is so dead nowadays. I think I'll just factory reset and keep the official android 12 rom which I already have installed. Do you have any tweaks to propose for sound or camera or anything that can be installed as an addon to the existing rom?

No sorry, no tweaks. I have mostly seen people ask to install Oneplus camera when they are on custom roms as that seems to be the best camera for Oneplus phones. So best is to keep that. Second best camera app I guess is Google Camera app.
For sound I have always disabled any extra sound features (like Dolby Atmos) mainly because I dont want any equalized sound coming from my phone to my car stereo. I already have a DSP for equalizer settings in my car for that. I have tried some equalizer apps for fun but none seems to work for our phone. At least not sound over bluetooth. Is sound on OOS 12 worse than on OOS 11?

I don't know to be honest, it sounds the same to me but I am not so nitpicky. OOS12 is fine in my opinion. Some minor bugs that I think are due to having it dirty flashed over OOS11 (e.g. after most restarts I need to re-enable the automatic orientation toggle for the screen). Battery is better though. I'll stick to it with official camera app and google camera. Most likely lock the bootloader again to avoid issues with the apps that now don't work due to the unlocked. Keep it for a few more months and then move to a new phone. It has been a great device so far.

I would wholeheartedly suggest trying custom ROM. Derpfest is still very actively updated ROM with a lot of customization possibilities. And the community on Telegram is very active. Also derpfest also includes Oneplus Camera app by default as well as necessary Gapps.

The issue is that with unlocked bootloader I can't use some important everyday apps like bank / netflix properly. In any case can you share a link so I see what you are referring to? Also how do I participate in its telegram? Lastly what makes you recommend it? Any new tweaks / benefits it offers vs stock?

Ok, so with bank, it's easy. In Custom Rom you can just easily install magisk and after that, just use a mode to hide the unlock from Gpay and voila! Everything works. I have the Gpay, Revolut and no one knows ****
With Netflix it's even easier. With the same hiding method, you can hide the unlock from all necessary apps, like Netflix or games or whatever, plus if you don't do hardcore changes in the system Netflix will still show UHD content, because of the Widevine L1. To be fair, i'm recommending the custom ROM, because i'm sick and tired of the OOS unfinished and buggy software. It started in A11 and it continues in A12. Looks like the last normal Oxygen was A10, so there's no other choice as to revert to custom. You can read a bit about the differences between OOS and custom Roms here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/guide-a11-rom-picking-guide-2nd-october-2021.4341961/
The rom i've decided to continue on myself is Derpfest, as it's suggested as the most battery stable one with lots of customization and integrated good practices from OOS. The install process is a bit funky but you can try the telegram here: https://web.telegram.org/k/#@DerpFestOP7Series. Ask your questions, read a bit, and when you will feel confident, you can try to install Custom ROM yourself. DON'T FORGET ABOUT BACKUPS!!!!!!!
If something, we can chat or discord and do the stuff together, if you'd like.

Yes I'd like that! If you are willing to help I'd be grateful. Shall we discord this weekend at some point? Sat?

I dunno about this weekend, but yeah, I can help you. Here's my discord: UltimatE_FatE#5506.
Just small additional note I'm gonna try to flash this custom ROM myself first in these following days and test it out profoundly. But don't worry, if we will not like the custom ROM, i'll show how to revert back to OG OOS and how to make it not so sucky.

Ok sounds good. One thing I'm concerned, I used to have magisk on official rom but netflix/bank app still didn't work as intended... Are you sure it works with that rom?
In the meantime I'll backup everything to be ready for the procedure.
