How does locked bootloader protect the device? - Sony Xperia XZ1 Questions & Answers

Hi everyone,
I recently flashed my G8342 to another region android 8.0 (yes, downgrade) through flashtool.
The ftf files that i downloaded is not come from XperiaFirm, since there is no way to download old firmware from official sony website for this device.
In this case, is the device still safe ? I did not unlock any bootloader or rooting the device.
Thank you.

You should be fine...

Hi.
Flash firmware via newflasher or flashtool won't change status of bootloader, and device after Xperia XZs can't relock the bootloader.
Don't be afraid, your device is still safe.

Xperia NEO 0% battery issue , and "anowing bootloader unlock= NO"

HI, I wanted to root an Xperia Nei mt15i, i found an article with a step by step guide ,which said downgrade the firmware to 2.3.2 then gingerbreak etc etc, and well now the phone says that the battery is empty, and i cant install a custom firmware becouse i cant unlock the bootloader, so i cant get in fastboot mode, anyone can help please?
To root you dont need unlocked bootloader.
follow this guide
http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/35239
Flash .42 firmware NOT .62
then root
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312859
After that use Over the air update to have latest .62 firmware or if you dont care stay with .42
You will be rooted with locked bootloader
(BE CAREFUL YOU NEED XPERIA NEO FIRMWARE NOT XPERIA NEO V!!!)

Thanks, and will this fix the battery issue?? Ive downloaded the 4.0.2.A.0.42 firmware from the site you wrote, but in flashtool it seems "empty" no firmware content, and nothing in the other columns...:S
Where did you read that you need to downgrade to 2.3.2??
Now you killed your battery gauge and it's unrecoverable hardware failure. Only permanent fix is replace in service shop.
There are some custom kernels which have 0% fix, there is even fix for locked BL's, for more information read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312398
If your phone is under warranty, you can try giving it for repair under warranty.

[Q] Downgrade Firmware

Does anyone know if it is possible to downgrade the firmware on a sony Z2? my phone was replaced at the sony centre and i have been given one with a newer firmware to the one supported by root (non bootloader unlock).
If it is possible, how do i do so?

Yes. Just download the appropriate firmware (make sure the model number e.g. D6503 is the same as your phone) and use Flashtool. Search the forums on how to use Flashtool to flash firmwares (plenty of guides).
Thanks for the reply, i was trying to look for the sticky with this information in rather than jumping around looking firstly trying to find a location for the flashtool and second the firmware repo to download from.
I did a search but there is all sorts on here

Search for the tread for a prerooted LP Firmware zip and flash over your current Firmware.

can you give me a tutorial or something? i'm not sure how to do this.
also won't this void my warranty?
Hello,
The official update is only available through Xperia Companion.
Alternatively, you can update the unofficial way by flashing through flashtool.
So just to make things clear: a computer is required to update your phone.
Concerning the warranty: you won't void it unless you unlock your bootloader (and flashing an official firmware, even from an unofficial tool like flashtool does not require to unlock it).
I would advise you to go the official way (update with Xperia Companion).
Regards

the problem is that it says i already have the most recent android system on sony app.
also i don't know how to upgrade this
go to xpericheck.com and search your device. the latest is 26.3.A.1.33, if your device listed there with the latest software i think you should flash it using flashtool. and if you wish to upgrade using official method, try to factory reset your phone and try again using xperia companion.
Extra! look at Diagnostics. if there any information about Software Update available, you can use your xperia companion. and sorry for my bad english. good luck

Where to find old firmware/How to backup firmware?

As I understand it, I don't need to unlock the bootloader in order to flash different official firmware versions to my phone. I'm leaving the bootloader locked until I really have a need to unlock it, because of the long-shot hope for a root exploit that will let me preserve my TA partition. As part of that, I really don't want to be stuck on a recent firmware version with all the old security holes patched. Therefore I want to get ahold of my current firmware or earlier before I flash anything. Somebody stop me here if I've misunderstood and anything I've said so far is impossible.
I have the dual-sim variant, G8342, running firmware 47.1.A.2.324.
Question 1: Is there a source somewhere of archived XZ1 firmware versions that includes 47.1.A.324 or earlier? I have searched the forum and google, but most xperia firmware backup sites have little or no files for the XZ1, and the couple of sources I've found are ancient with broken links. The post on these forums with stock firmware downloads only includes much newer versions.
Question 2: Is there a way I can extract a copy of my current firmware from my phone, without unlocking the bootloader? I find tutorials that work for "any xperia", but they're all quite old and talk about Sony PC Companion instead of Xperia Companion, and they all involve clicking "Your software is up to date"--and my software is not up to date, and updating it before backing it up would defeat the entire purpose of backing it up.
I'd greatly appreciate it if someone could clarify this for me so I can flash new firmware without losing the ability to go back.
Hi there, sorry i can't help you with your questions. I have one more question actually. are you sure i don't have to unlock bootloader if i flash official stock firmware??
Opposite to you, i'm stuck with a really old build from 2017. my phone is xz1 and its build version is 47.1.A.2.374. android security patch is from october 2017 and i desperately want to update the newest firmware yet i'm always told that my firmware is lastest.
sooo, am i able to flash it with the flashtool or newflasher?/
thank you

Seems highly unlikely that you haven't received an update since 2017 but then stranger things have happen.. New phone, carrier branded hmm..
Have you tried to update with Sony Companion, use the software update on the phone its self..
Oh and yes you can use the other methods you have mentioned..

Thanks a ton, lionelbac! For anyone else who comes across this thread, there's now also a download of 47.1.A.2.281_CE1 available in j4nn's magnificent TA partition backup thread, since that firmware is necessary for his exploit to work: https://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-xz1-compact/development/devonly-exploits-temp-root-to-backup-t3795510
