Home Screen Blank , no launcher started after restart - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have micromax canvas juice 4 q382. It has built 5.1 lollipop.
Quad Core, 1.3 GHz Spreadtrum SC7731G /1 GB RAM. Also I like to mention my device has been rooted.
After update from micromax the system was hanged. So I have done factory reset using Factory reset option.
But after factory reset the Lock screen appear, but when I tried to unlock then the “Home screen “open with no app launcher or app drawer, nothing is there only the wallpaper. And within a few second the “Home screen” also disappeared and screen get black and no light.
Then I press the power button which take me to the lock screen and from there I open settings (using small gear icon on top status bar). And from there open all apps and select any Launcher (like launcher3 or other installed launcher).
But I can install any app from play store and can update. Also new launcher when started working fine. But the problem is when I restart the pone the same Home screen appeared and no launcher invoked at startup.
I tried different launcher but same issue persists. I have reset the phone and rebooted many times, but the same problem appears. I tried to set different launcher at “Home” option in settings but nothing happened.
If there is any way to put any launcher at startup then this can be resolve, but I am not very much familiar to Android OS and its tricks.
Also the keyboard sometimes didn’t invoke.
Please tell me how to start Launcher (any) and Keyboard at startup (after restart) ?
Is there any APK available which can resolve this issue?
I am being tired by Factory reset, that has not served any solution.
Thanks in advance…..

[Q] -SOLVED- Work around twlauncher crash loop w/o wipe?

--twlauncher crash problem solved, see below. Feel free to answer general question though
Hi all!
Ran into a problem with my Galaxy S that I'd be really greatful if you could help me with.
THE QUESTION:
Is there some way of accessing the phone from my PC via USB and changing settings?
THE THING:
I have been running my system without problem for a while. Haven't made a backup though, stupid #%¤ as I am. When I was using the (stock) Internet browser I tried to add a (mobile) web page to the Start panel (or whatever it is called). Since then I get the error message "The application Start (process com.sec.android.app.twlauncher) has stopped unexpectedly." Gives option to "Force Close". Whenever I do, the error comes back after a few seconds if I am at the default screen and don't quickly go into the phone or sms app. Basically, I can't do anything that my Ericsson T10 couldn't do in 1999...
I think all of my "start screens" were already filled with apps, that there wasn't room for another, and this might be the problem that causes the twlauncher crash loop.
THE QUESTION (again, in context):
So, is there some way of accessing the phone from my PC via USB and changing settings? During my searching I've come to believe that two possible solutions might be to clear twlauncher's settings or to set another launcher as default, but in the current state I can't get to the settings neither from the started phone or from the Darky recovery console.
I know I could just wipe and reinstall everything but that feels like nuking a mosquito...and it's so tedious... If there is some smoother way to get at the problem that would be nice. Also I'm curious if it can be done, and I'm probably not alone.
THE SYSTEM:
Samsung Galaxy S (GT I9000)
Rooted
Android 2.2.1
Darkys' ROM v9.4 Extreme edition
Voodoo
Any pointers would be greatly appreciated, thanks a lot!
/Fredrik
Ok folks, I am happy again!
It seems things fix themselves for me if I only write a thorough post on some forum...
I went to android market with my PC, logged in with my google account (where I had apparently added my phone before) and downloaded another launcher (ADW) to replace my crashed twlauncher. After that I fiddled some more with the phone - obviously turned off network mode from the power menu (the menu that you get when holding the power button 3 sec). And then I wrote the above post.
Just now I was going to make a phone call (which was about the only thing working, remember?) but the screen had gone all black except from the status bar at the top, which didn't respond when I tried to pull its menu down. Brought up the power menu. At first it didn't respond to my touch but after a while it agreed to turn on network mode for me. Then ADW downloaded and installed itself. I still couldn't pull down the status bar menu to click on the "Download complete" icon and launch ADW that way, but I pressed the Home button and got a menu asking "Complete this task with:" and some choices. I ticked the box "always use this program" and selected ADW. Now, ADW started and I am back on track! No wipe or reinstall needed!
SO, short version solution to twlauncher crash loop: log into your Android market account from a PC, search for "launcher" and install one of your choice, then wait for the phone to download and install it. Then press Home, tick "Always use this program to complete this task" and select your new launcher!
Yeah, that solved my problem with Tw.launcher but if anyone has an answer to the question in the thread - is there a way to log into the phone from a PC to change settings - feel free to share your knowledge!
Addition - resetting twlauncher to be able to use Kies
Ok, after installing another launcher as described above, proceed with the following to prevent twlauncher from crashing in the future. You will need to this do if you want to connect with your computer using Kies, since Kies apparently cannot connect to other launchers (such as GO launcher or ADW).
1. Open Settings | Applications | Manage Applications.
2. Go to the tab "All" and scroll down and tap on twlauncher (or maybe it is called something else, on mine it is "Start" - check the twlauncher crash message to get it, or follow the instructions below under "Another way..." to find it in the Home button menu. You still need to complete the whole procedure to get it running though).
3. Tap the "Clear data" button. This clears your settings, i.e. the app shortcuts that you put on your start screens.
DONE!
In my case I believe the twlauncher crash was due to adding one more shortcut to an already full app drawer, so when I cleared the settings I can use twlauncher again.
USING TWLAUNCHER TO CONNECT WITH KIES
Now you can use the Home Swithcher app to launch twlauncher if you want to use Kies, and when you are done you can use Home Switcher again to switch back if you prefer the other launcher you installed.
Another way to get back to twlauncher if you don't have Home Switcher, is to go to Settings | Applications | Manage Applications, find your current launcher (e.g. GO launcher or ADW) and tap the "Clear default" button. Then (when you have exited back to the start screen) if you press the Home button, you will be asked which launcher you would like to use to complete the task. Select twlauncher (or "Start" whatever it's called). After you're done with Kies you can switch back the same way if you don't want to use twlauncher as default.

Such a great thread and no one else has added anything else to it I'm dealing with this crap atm and it is even worst. Holding power doesn't pop up the power menu. Cant access settings. I can bring the notification bar down and turn on wifi but it doesnt actuallly connect to my wifi so I can't do the remote app installation from the web store. I really don't want to do a factory reset.
as was asked here, is there a way to clear the data of the TWLAUNCHER app by using my pc and usb connection to the phone? I'm able to turn on usb storage and access it. Halp!

[Q] recent app screen changed

Hello,
I've come here to ask your help on an issue that occured with my recent app menu (in which I mean the menu to change apps when pressing the menu button)
I've always had the stock Samsung multitasking bar, which was black and only came up in a small bar, overlapping my current app partially.
But after trying to fix something that had to to with google play (some app dependencies and patches), I noticed that the multitasking screen had disappeared and instead, it was the normal app switch screen.
I've already tried factory reset with a titanium backup restore from when it worked, but now I'm out of suggestions and I miss the functionality of the bar.
Does anyone have advice or help.
The device is a Samsung Tab Pro 10.1, rooted, stock rom (using nova launcher)
thanks in advance,
Durneztj

Almost all apps (including launcher) crash

Hey all,
Just got my new OnePlusX and the first time I turned it on it prompted all the set up screens. I had to skip through them all because the keyboard would not stay open. It would open and then immediately minimize. Not a great start but no problem, I'll add my accounts and connect to wifi later.
Once I get into the 'home screen' I could see my status bar at the top but no icons and no way to access the app draw. I pressed the capacitive buttons and opened the notification slider which both worked and eventually got into the play store. From here I installed an app or two and got prompted to do a system update, which I did.
After the update I was hoping my launcher would work.. it didn't. The home screen is a black screen with the status bar at the top and no icons - the home button seems to do nothing when I'm in an app and press it.
I installed a third party launcher which worked - I now have a home screen and app draw. However, after opening an app, it crashes after a second or two (chompSMS does this as well as messenger, phone and contacts which are stock apps).
Does anyone have any information about this, what can I do here?
I know one option might be flashing a custom rom but being a brand new phone that should most definitely not be something I have to do to be able to call and message people..
Update: I ran a factory reset and all problems seemed to be resolved now. Not sure what was going on but I guess something happened that a reboot couldn't fix. I'll leave this post in case it helps others.
Have you done a factory reset after the system update??

swipe up for app drawer not working

I have TF300 with Katkiss 7.1 recently installed. All seemed to be working fine. Last night I wanted to try 'night mode' . Not seeing it in settings, I installed a bluelight filter app.
Right after installation and turning it on, I found that the navigation bar changed from on the left: 'back', 'home' and 'overview' , to having 'back' on left with an up carat to left of it only when on home screen, 'home' and 'recent on left, and on right: 'overview' and 'previous app'.
Also, I have lost the ability to go to apps drawer by swiping up from bottom. I don't know any way to access any apps other than those on home screen!!
Uninstalled the 'bluelight filter' but that didn't change anything.
I have used the 'system UI tuner' to move all buttons back to left, but still have that carat to left of back button.
Tried powering down and restarting, and booting to recovery.
I installed Nova launcher. Swipe worked once, then failed next time I tried to use it.
1. What is the carat to left of back button about?
2 Is there no other way to access app drawer then 'swipe up'? Is there a way to get 'swipe up' to work again?

Seems like the app corrupted something in the system, best thing to do now is to dirty flash your current rom, just flash and wipe cache and Dalvik cache only then reboot.

I sort of thought I might have to reflash. unfortunately, it hasn't helped. I flashed the 7.1 ver 20 over ver 19, along with supersu and gapps pico. still can't access apps drawer, and carat remains next to back button.
i have installed Nova launcher. set it to use desktop icon to access app drawer . this seems to work. and the carat is gone.. what is the carat about?
any idea what the carat to left of back button is about? just curious.
Unless someone has a better idea, I guess i'll have to wipe, format, etc. then have to reinstall all apps. that's a pain.
