Note 10+ Teardown / Not enough place for Jack the door ? - Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Guides, News, & Discussion

Here's the video :

My opinion is that there were enough room to save Jack but Samsung won't for commercial reasons.
Just watch a S10+ teardown to see as small a jack is.

my opinion,
thinner phone to maintain symmetry and a larger display for grip. removal of audio Jack to prevent introduction of structural vulnerability due to thinner phone.
a dedicated DAC from usbc to Jack may be more premium than a builtin one. also, more and more people are jumping to wireless solution. this will help galaxy buds as well.

You're maybe right, but the Note10+ is thicker than the S10+ wich have the jack. But as I said, maybe you're right.

I totally agree with that. BUT... several DAC manufacturer (like ibasso) have stopped to support Samsung Galaxy phones (includind S9, S10, Note9 and Note10) due to a "non regular" USB-C wiring.

Hmm, I hope my TempoTec Sonata HD Hi-Res dongle will work on Note 10. I like it and it works fine on my Pixel 2. Edit: Just tested the aforementioned dongle on S10e and it works nicely!

no worries.
note 10+ vs note 9 has a difference of 0.9mm thickness.
s10+ vs s9+ has a difference of 0.7mm thickness.
many possibilities.
we can see note 10+ has an extensive reduction in thickness probably to compensate the slightly wider body than note 9.
probably due to survey or demands or market research, they figured battery usage pattern for note means priority for a larger battery capacity.
dedicated dac may be a better solution if any audiophiles want quality audio.
there is an increasing trend of people opting for TWS earbuds due to the convenience of listening to one bud at any point of time, youtube video for example don't need stereo.
support galaxy buds
digital device should have less analog components.

Maybe all of you are right, but being skeptic as I'm, I would speculate that this is all BS (having better DAC doesn't mean you can't have headphone jack, USB C always had pins for analog audio etc.) I would speculate installing headphone jack may cost let's say 50 cents, multiply that by lets say 20 million phones, they get to save cool $10M. It was the main reason that Crapple did it and every sheep followed sooner or later. And headphone jack is not only for headphones, I have tools that communicate with phone over headphone jack and now they won't work anymore. It's really bad when Samsung starts penny pinching on their $1k flagship phones, because it wasn't lack of space for missing heart rate monitor, or tiny notification LED.

2.5mm to 3.5mm internal jack mod(not mentioned in any threads I could find)

I was wondering if anyone here knew if it could be possible to upgrade the 2.5 mm headset jack to a 3.5 mm headset jack without the use of an adapter. I'm not worried about the microphone, just the stereo headphones.
What I am trying to find out is has anyone ever modified their WIZARD to have a 3.5mm headphone jack INSTEAD of a 2.5mm headset jack?
Could it even be possible?
Just a guess, but I don't think it will be possible since the 3.5mm jack is going to require greater depth and the opening is liable to not be large enough. I'd just get a 2.5mm-3.5mm adapter and be done with it personally.
I hadn't thought of that... I suppose you're right though. Better to be safe and not risk damaging my wizard too...

Aint gonna work on a wizard (only on newer htc phones) u'll need a 2,5 to 3,5 jackplug adaptor:
or you could spring for some 2.5mm headphones. some of the ones i saw on ebay get really good sound quality
The jack is soldered onto the main board. Since these things all work with SM technology, if you don't know surface mount soldering techniques, you'll fry the phone. An adaptor is cheaper and safer....

I do have adequate soldering skills and that's actually more of what I was looking to do. Do you know of anything like that or if it is even possible?

doing it yourself sounds like maaaaaaad fun but i dont think i'd risk my fone
The 3.5mm adapters are too easy to use - but if you have your heart set on not using one, I would see it as easier making the conversion to the headphones than in the restricted space and with the high cost of failure in the phone.
I think both my converters cost a couple of quid, but the first was a solid one which i got rid of as its too impractical having such a long projection from your phone, or at least I found this when it was in my Krusell case on my belt.
It was also a pain on flights with the rigid adaptor, as I was using noise cancelling headphones, and a 4xAA battery extender, so my shirt pocket was getting too cluttered, but the adaptor with the cable again made it work.
Why would you want to solder on the wizard.
Just get a decent quality 2.5mm stereo jack, some good ordinary headset en combine the two.
It's a lot easier (and cheaper if you mess up) to solder 4 wires together than to solder some miniature audio jack in a cramped area.
uhhh radio shack? that is where i got my two. one for headphones. (before i got my bt's) and one for car. cassette adapter to phone. old skool ghetto.
5$ for two i think. or i have seen javoedge have some also.
****e. i thought you were talking about external.
My experience with the audio jack is as follows... it is kind of proprietary. I once took a picture of the jack that comes with the phone and an off the shelf 2.5mm jack. I'm not sure if I would replace the jack even it were possible, but the quirkiness of the jack created some issues for me until I discovered it was indeed non standard.

Looking for Wired earphones with Microphone

Hey guys, been digging through the threads and found a couple on earphones, though not exactly what I was looking. Looking for your opinions on best earphones with a microphone for about $35-$65. Comfortable, preferably in ear design. Hoping for a pretty good microphone so that people can actually hear me, especially outside, though I don't want the mic to be huge (that's one thing I liked about the stock headphones till they broke; the mic was discrete). Also, I would prefer one of the earphones to be longer than the other so that I could have them hang around my neck when not in use. All opinions welcome.
So far I've looked at:
Sennheiser MM50
MetroFi 170vi
-Thanks
Hi,
You can try
remote control with HTC ExtUSB
which has: mic+vol up/down+fward/bward
and 3.5 connector
and get an CX 95 style
I order this combination and they are on the way.

I can barely find anything on those headphones. Do you know if one side is longer than the other? (aka, is it an around the neck design?)

Does this headset works the same way as the htc headset that was supplied with the phone?
thanks for the picture. Too bad it's not an around the neck design. And yes, I believe all the headsets will work like the original one. Though I should note that none of the headsets will give you extra functionality like changing songs/volume, but you can still pick up/hang up calls.

I was just about to buy those last night but then I saw that there were alot of fakes floating around and didn't want to get ripped off. Also, I found reviews for the "nuforce ne-7m" and they're all extremely positive. Everyone saying that they're better than the MM50, though, unfortunately, they're not around the neck design. I still ended buying them, if I don't like them I'll just return it and get the MM50s.

Got them on tues (very fast shipping as monday was a holiday). First of all, I'm no audiophile but here's my best 'imho.' Compared to the stock headphones, well, you really can't compare them. It's like listening to music in 3D; there's depth to the sound. The mic is in a good position and tiny. So far, everyone has said that they've had no problem hearing me and I've never heard the wind blowing in my earphones (which use to happen all the time on the stock ones). They block out sound very well and don't disrupt others since you can't hear the music unless u have them on/are really really close. If you turn up the volume (on the HD) all the way up, it gets ridiculously loud, but remains high quality. The cable is nice and long (sometimes that's an issue for me since I'm like 6feet 4in (1.93m). Extremely comfortable!
Cons(?): Not around the neck design. 'Bent' (L shaped) jack vs the stock straight jack. The sound carries through the wire into the headphones when they hit/touch something (like a zipper on a sweatshirt); however I think this might be true on all in-ear headphones? If anyone can comment on that, especially on the MM50 in that scenario.
3 other notes: It has one of those sliders were the line separates into the right/left headphone to help keep them from tangling. Came with a pouch and 3 other sized ear pieces. It has a 'clip' to clip the headphones to a piece of clothing so that they don't bounce around.
If you have any other questions or I missed something let me know and I'll try and get it answered for you.

Bluetooth headphones for music possible?

Hi! All. is it possible to use bluetooth headphones to listen to music with the galaxy tab? any compatibility issues i should be looking out for before buying if its possible to use.
of coz it is possible
Even better, the 7.7 supports the APT-X Bluetooth codec/profile, which sounds noticeably better than regular A2DP. Of course you need a receiver that supports APT-X as well.
I picked up an LG Tone Bluetooth headset.
It allows phone calls (with my tablet or my EVO) and can be used as a stereo headset for videos, music, etc.
Battery lasts a long time and works great for me.

It's a decent set for all the features but in terms music quality, i think it lacks a bit (soundstage and mid/low range)
Vibration on incoming call is pretty awesome

Hmm, I doubt that the hardware is different in the Verizon version - also, APT-X can be both AFAIK, either hardware- or software-wise implemented. Maybe it's just a firmware difference, or maybe they just didn't write down the whole specs.
Nah, haven't tried those Senns - do they support APT-X? (So far my only experience with APT-X was on the Creative Zen X-Fi 3 with a small Samsung APT-X adapter/receiver, and my regular IEMs plugged in. The sound quality was pretty much as good as wired, to my ears.)

I use a set of Sony DR-BT21G headphones. They are excellent but alas they were discontinued a few years ago and Sony never brought out a followup model :-(
The only real drawback to them is lack of USB charging - they use a silly 3.3V Sony charger (which I think was also used for minidisc players, perhaps why they chose it as maybe they originally thought to make it for MD players).
I plan on using my Motorola S10 HD when I get my tab. They work really well with my xoom currently.

These type of earphones are called earbuds.
I have bought mine from Aliexpress (a site like ebay), and they have been working great so far.
If you actually enjoy music, pick up one of these to try with a decent pair of headphones. Sky's the limit price wise on headphones so it depends on your budget. If you want a good cheap pair i would recommend these.
I strongly recomend Philips SHE8005 headphones .

I was just looking at that Aliexpress, http://gaga.aliexpress.com/210698610-1110017854-detail.html?spm=a2704.6645961.3.1. Whoa.
Must be some fake or something
Not sure whether it is fake, but we will never know. I have seen some of these extreme deals on aliexpress, the fact is that there are only 5 for this price and they run out as soon as the deal comes alive (= in less than a second) However, I do not recommend buying such things, the devil never sleeps.
But what you would buy on ebay, you can buy from aliexpress too, I did not have a single problem with them and they have a large selection of earphones/earbuds/headphones.
I recommend Panasonic RP-HJE120-K, they'r cheap and play very good, like hi-end earphones if You like warm, clear sound, especially with V4A.

Fiio amps (or portable amps in general) are really intended for full-sized over the ear headphones. The added power is much more apparent because IEMs (earbuds) are already running at just about the peak of their power. I will say, though, that I own a Fiio E6 with a pair of NuForce NE-700M (a top-ranker in multiple sub-$100 quality lists, including Wired.com; can be had for $75, $65 without the microphone), and there is a notable difference in dynamic range and achievable volume.

[Q] What is a good Blue tooth Speaker?

I ended up getting this Anker Portable Speaker after some great reviews on Amazon. I've had a couple generic no names that broke or blew out quickly.
http://www.ianker.com/product/99ANSP9901-BSA
The MP141 is very nice looking and super easy to pair. The speaker is very heavy-indicating a large magnet, and has a nice matte rubber exterior. There is a micro USB charge port, aux stereo jack and a charge light indicater. Apart from thevolume switch, the buttons operate the speaker. Volume up/ down and a play/pause. All the parts appear to be of the highest quality. Most importantly, the sound is very rich. I use it in my office which is about 12 X 12. I can walk out about 15-20 without losing connection. What's more impressive is I can still hear it well out side. Unfortunately the unit does distort at the highest volume- but most speakers do. The company boasts 20hrs. I have used mine for over 25 and is still going!
The speaker also has a microphone to answer incoming calls. The mic. quality is good and almost none of callers could recognize I was using the speaker. There is also a sound that indicates a successful connection or incoming call. One drawback is that for some reason, this notification sound is always super loud-regardless of the volume seting on the speaker. It can be startling if you have the speaker volume low. Overall I am very pleased with this product and feel comfortable recommending it to anyone looking for a high quality speaker without the high end price.

I bought a Jawbone Big Jambox about 1 year ago. Absolutely LOVE it! Incredible sound, battery life, call quality on both ends, etc. There isn't a single thing I can say bad, or even slightly negative, about it. I highly recommend it to anyone who has $300 to spend on bluetooth speaker!

Did I mention this one is only $35?
I think it's a great product for the price. :sly:

+ 1!! Terrific speaker..
The JBL Flip is amazing.
The sol deck is my favorite by far. Made by sol republic with motorola. It has an audio in port and audio out port comes with aux cable. The look and feel of it is great, and sounds amazing. It actually has bass too. Also the connectivity is very long range

I'm using a regular Jambox (not mini, not BIG) and I really like it. Honestly the sound is great for it's size and the battery is superb. Paid 85.00 for it on eBay.
There are now a LOT of players in the bluetooth speaker market.
If I were buying now I would make sure I got one with bluetooth 3.0 or higher, Apt-X, and ideally NFC also. Some degree of protection from the elements is included with an increasing number of these too, well worthwhile if you can get it with the other features and within your budget.
Braven have some very nice ones, I have the 850 which has Apt-X, BT 3.0, 20 hour battery life (or less if you want to use it to charge devices, it has a 8,800mA battery inside that charges at 2A), stellar build quality, very good sound. They also have a smaller form factor one, the 710 that adds the NFC and splash/dust resistance.
I also have the Loewe Speaker 2Go, which is the best I have ever heard and has BT 3.0 and Apt-X and NFC and an 8 hour battery (again one that can be used to charge other devices, although that is less practical than with the 850 as the battery capacity is much smaller).
there's two which i've purchased. the first is the tdk life on record:
http://www.amazon.com/TDK-Life-Record-Wireless-Weatherproof/dp/B008VMT2HQ
this speaker gets LOUD and doesn't distort in the higher volumes. for the price, it's a VERY GOOD speaker. it's weatherproof so if you're active and need something that can be taken to the beach or beside the pool, this is the speaker for you.
it has an audio in port for non bluetooth devices, a usb port for charging your phone / mp3 player, and is usable as a speaker phone. even though it's small in size, the speaker has some weight... which is generally a sign of good materials used and good construction.
i would've kept that speaker if i never heard my current speaker. the sony srs-btx500:
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-SRSBTX500-Portable-Bluetooth-Wireless/dp/B00B2G3R5G
i don't need my speaker to be outside, it's just indoors. as far as sound... this has enough bass to make it enjoyable, without it being overpowered. with some speakers it's just ALL bass. you get no lows, mids, or highs. you can hear everything on the sony. there's different audio modes (normal, bass boost, and bass boost w / surround). depending on what i'm listening to, i switch the sound mode.
the speaker has nfc, it's bluetooth compatible (of course), has an audio in port for non bluetooth devices, has speaker phone capabilities, and also a usb port for charging your phone / mp3 player.
the one thing i LOVE about the speaker is the surround sound. no matter where i place it, i hear equal sound in both ears. normally when you place the speaker on the left hand side, you can tell that's where the speaker is. with the sony, i can place it on the left or right hand side of my desk (where i keep it) and the sound is equal. really amazing.
