Hi guys,
Googled for this extensively, found so many conflicting answers.
I'm writing a free app to publish on the Google Play market. In the app, on the about page, I have a PayPal donate button that simply acts as a web link to the PayPal donate page for my merchant account. The donation will be STRICTLY voluntary, and will not unlock ANY new functionality. I've also emailed Google to ask them, but I don't expect a reply anytime soon. Any idea if we're allowed to do this? I know the Google Play T&C state that you cant charge for a free app by doing an in-app donate to a PayPal (or any other) payment gateway, but since this is a purely voluntary non-mandatory donation LINK, wouldn't it be okay?
I hate to bump a post, but I still need some info regarding this - anyone have any ideas?
Im pretty sure I've seen that in apps before, as long is its not required I think you're fine

I setup the "Scrambled with Friends" game on a tablet so my 7 year old can play it against family members. The tablet is linked to my google account, I put a PIN on the market to stop anyone from buying apps and stupidly assumed that without the PIN no one would be able to purchase stuff using my credit card.
And then tonight I get an email with a Google Purchase Receipt saying my little darling has bought some coins, in app purchase for Scrambled With Friends for $24.95 on my credit card. Grr. Of course I should have been watching.. she didn't really understand what she'd done. I buy a few apps but never done any in app purchase and didn't realise you could just do that without a pin or anything.
Ahh well lesson learnt. $24.95 coulda been worse.. but is there some way to prevent this happening, PIN/passowrd or something? without totally removing my CC details from google play?
If you go into the Play Store settings, under User Controls there's an option to "Use PIN for purchases". Based on the description (require PIN before purchasing apps or other content) I think it will do what you are asking.
For reference, I'm on v3.5.19 of the Play Store.
EDIT: Just tested it on my device - enabling that PIN protection does prevent in-app purchases from being made via the Play Store.
I'm in the midst of developing an app for android and iphone with inapp purchases. The apple store gives the developer 100 promo codes so users can download the app for free. I've been searching all over but haven't been able to find anything for google that does the same thing. Anyone know if this is possible for the google play store? I'd rather not have the user buy the app then have to refund it since I would be losing money that way.

Yes, someone else can publish the app for you. but it may be of more benefit to you to get your own license if you
think you will create more apps in the future. Not that difficult.
If you include apps, for example, Google AdMob in your app, you will eventually get back your 25$ investment (and more) once you have enough downloads.

I am sorry if this is in the wrong thread. I keep hearing about devs giving out promo codes for apps, games and in-app purchases. Where can I find these codes? I am not asking for hacks that supposed to give free google balance but about legit legal codes
They aren't giving away google play money. They give promo codes for the paid version of the apps they develop.

Yeah. Are there any sites that publish them
No as the codes are normally given away in contests or to friends and people that tested the app.
