Hallo, i am Faiz.
I am a new user who moved from mi a1.
i've a quiestion, i want to install gcam in MIUI 10.3.3.0 instead of changing ROM (Now i used Evolution ROM). However twrp always asks the decryption password no matter what the version is it (tried with TWRP 0330, 1003/ 2003).
Tried format data but still, idk what to do.
Is any solution for this? or am i forgetting something?

Hi,
It is a simple general question but I do not understand how it works for the custom roms... (I have a hawei honor / shendu OS)
When downloaded, it is only a 10 mb file which compared to the full rom is 140mb lighter... is is only a patch which is based on the rom that is already instaled? does the phone download the full rom when trying to install?? if yes how could this one get the network informations as the user (e.g. me) i haven't entered my pin, the network settings have been erased during the wipes (i think there is an automatic 3 wipes before the installation begins).
So... any idea?
Dear all
I use Redmi note 3 bearing Andriod version: 5.1.1 LMY47V, MIUI: MIUI Global 8.0 stable 8.0.6.0(LHOMIDG), Baseband Ver: 8976_GEN_PACK-1.66111.1.71302.1; Kernel 3.10.73 Build Number: LMY47v
- Finger print stopped working, lock screen pattern works sometimes other wise no
- Performance issues
- when I type message in whatsapp, automatically goes to home screen ..
Sent several messages here, I was advised factory reset. I got a advice to download apkextractor, and back up of data.
Question is which is best, latest links ?
How to flash ROM and OS ?
Regards
LP
This you should've asked in noob friendly thread, instead of opening a new one.
And this really shouldnt of been asked anymore to begin with... Its getting spammed, because you guys open a new thread for things that has been already answered
So, because of your post, my reaction leads to spam and waste time
backup your data via mi cloud(contacts, messages, etc).you can't backup the data of your apps unless you have root access(and I don't think you do),use the es file explorer to backup apk of your apps.
about flashing roms, the safest method is using the updater app, latest miui roms links :
miui global Stable nightly recovery rom based on marshmallow:
http://bigota.d.miui.com/V8.1.1.0.MHOMIDI/miui_HMNote3ProGlobal_V8.1.1.0.MHOMIDI_8e5f6f8e03_6.0.zip
miui global developer recovery rom based on marshmallow:
http://bigota.d.miui.com/6.12.8/miui_HMNote3ProGlobal_6.12.8_23b66088e0_6.0.zip
instructions:
- after downloading the rom, rename the file name to Update.zip then copy to internal storage(in downloaded_rom folder).
- open updater app, select choose update package, go to downloaded_rom folder and select Update.zip. It will verify your rom and install it.
- reset factory
Hi there,
currently I am still using MIUI 8 Global (7.4.20) in Beta version with weakly updates on my RM Note 2 Prime and I am quite fine with it (above all the really impressive fast charging time).
But I also want to keep in touch with newer versions of Android as far as possible without giving up the overall usability of my phone and its components (Battery Live, Charging Time, GPS, Camera, Audio...).
So I try to keep myself informed about newer ROM versions for RM Note 2 which seems unfortunately not be supported by Xiaomi regarding newer Android Releases.
That lead my to RR and Lineage OS with RR seeming to be the better choice.
Now I am wondering what would be an efficient way to flash one of these ROMs with newer Android over my current MIUI ROM while keeping or restoring all my data, pictures, chats, navigation routes etc.?
Does Xiaomi PC suite also work with RR or Lineage OS?
All experiences, hints and tips are welcome!
Did someone else switch from MIUI to a newer Android ROM and what is your proposed procedure?
Thank you in advance!
Bye
Best way to get a custom ROM is to flash twrp!
When install with twrp you have to choose if you want to clear data, cache, dalvik, system, internal, external and otg, and so if you want to leave your data, the best option is to install Titanium backup (better with pro version) here you can safe all your apps (with all its data of course) and leave the backup in your internal.
Afterwards you can download any ROM you want (LP recommended!!) And better place it external if available.
Also to download gapps (Google apps) recommended
Than backup all your data with Titanium backup and you can boot after backup in twrp which is needed for custom ROMs!
Here you have to clear system (otherwise you will get error, because of cm based and miui based ROMs) and data+dalvik/cache.
Now you can choose with the install method your ROM and gapps and install.
Now you have to boot up system and after setup go into settings, build number 5times clicking, go to developer options and grant root access to all apps!
Now you have to install Titanium backup app again (pro recommended again) and choose the restore option
Now it will reinstall all apps with all its data and you can go on!
Hope I could help a bit
@Noobsi:
Thank you! Helps quite a lot. But what do you mean by "LP recommended"? Which ROM do you refer to here?
Regarding changing ROM (in my case this would be from MIUI to some kind of MM) I read that restoring Apps with their data is not recomended due to possible filesystem changes and things like that.
He means Lollipop (android 5) recommended, because marshmallow isn't stable enough.

Thanks - this will leave me with MIUI further (since they [Xiaomi] will never bring it to newer Android versions it seems).
Try Dual Boot Patcher: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2447534
I use it to have MIUI 8 and Lineage OS 13, and when reboot, shows a menu to choose where want to boot.
Wow, did not even know such kind of things exists for Android mobiles too!
Thanks a lot! Are you happy with LOS13? Why did you choose it (instead of RR or something else)?
What are the diffs between MIUI8 and LOS13 you are experiencing? And which OS are you using more often?
And regarding Dual Boot Patcher: I also discovered other multi boot managers in Play Store for example, could I use them too or are all of them restricted/proposed to/for certain devices?
After losing all the data of my internal storage twice, I am searching for a final solution of this disaster.
If I let the phone encrypt everything, am I facing the problem of accessing it through twrp again?
Sometimes I just forget to install the decryption patch after each update.
Often I saw twrp asking me for a pattern, after an unwanted encryption. I couldn't enter a code like 6363 by swiping. --> data lost!
Any advice would be really appreciated.

Fastboot and install the twrp with decryption support
Just rename it to recovery.zip before install
No need for passwords in twrp
FDE is optional when using this

I already had installed twrp with encryption support.
After flashing havoc rom the system started encrypting my internal storage.
TWRP was asking for encryption password, but there was none, because it was a clean flash.
The first time my system got encrypted ( maybe even deleted) was after upgrading to vendor / firmware v10.

You need to flash Force encryption disabler zip every time you upgrade ROMs because on Pie encryption gets enabled on boot. Even if you decrypt using TWRP, if you flash another ROM it will still encrypt on boot if you don't flash FED.zip. I learned this the hard way too

Sorry, but I don't get it.
At its very first boot, LOS encrypted my unencrypted phone without asking me for the key.
So I think it just chose a key at random (or maybe even an hardcoded one: who knows?).
How can this even work with (any) update?
What if I need to reboot my device? Will it reboot? (I don't dare to even test it).
I also run LOS on another phone (OP3T) which has asked me the encryption key when I chose to encrypt it.
So I see two main oddities with this phone:
LOS is encrypting MY OWN phone without asking me permission to do so and
LOS is failing to tell me which encryption key it's using, thus acting more like a bitlocker than as a security feature.
And I need a way to chose my very own encryption key, anyway. How to?

Its not LOS its the vendor/firmware flashed, everytime you put a new/vendor firmwar it "force encrypts" your phone on first boot. So used "disable force encryption" if you dont want it. Its just how it is so stop whining about "final solutions" for a disaster. Theres no disaster spen 10$ on an sd card and move your pictures or whatever there even while encrypted you can (keep it portable) then theres no problem.

I surely haven't fully understood this encryption thing.
Mainly because on one phone, the OP3T, it was done by the OS itself upon my request with my encryption key.
While on another one, the POCO F1, is being done by something else, the so called "vendor software".
I was willing to have encryption on the POCO F1, it looks like I cannot have it. Bare truth.
With LOS v16 on an OP3T, if I reboot to TWRP recovery (or system) and don't provide the key I defined myself, I won't get access to the storage.
With LOS v16 on a POCO, I can reboot to TWRP recovery (or system) and have the storage decrypted by the " vendor software" without providing any key.
So, to my very limited understanding at least, POCO F1 doesn't have encryption unless you are trying to access the storage from the bootloader or from a device which has been turned off!
Or am I missing something very important?
P.S.
I don't see how a uSD card would save me. Can I enable user controlled encryption on an uSD?
Hello i'm on xiaomi.eu on miui 13 (android 12). My storage is encrypted and i'm searching a way to solve it (maybe disable forced encryption ?). I need this because i want to install magisk on it.
i you have any help to offer i will be grateful.
Thank you !
Maybe it's not working because of A12. I'm still on MIUI 12.5 and storage is decrypted with orangefox
